I was waiting for these stories to come out an eternity, and finally managed to have time to indulge myself into reading this incredible story. Love it. If you love Tobias "Four" Eaton as mush as I do, then I recommend you to read these SHORT stories based on him. Thank you Veronica Roth

Super good novella! I love getting to see a story from another point of view, especially Fours'. But like usual- I just wish there was more! When something is really good, I just don't want it to end.

Ok, section 1 is physical training, section 2 is emotional, section 3 is fear landscapes. Why in this novella are all three happening concurrently? Most especially, 4 wouldn't even be called/nicknamed four until the last portion of initiation. Certainly not before he was even evaluated in sections 2 & 3. Tobias said at one point he was working on fighting and also fear landscapes. Did they change rules since original book. There Tobias said it was 6 years ago things started to change. Also, in Divergent, weren't there only 10 New members chosen, not 12? Did someone proofread this??

Why 4 stars, not 3 stars or 5 stars. It is simply better than a #3 story. It lacked the dramatic depth that gives me that "5 star feeling" . This is likely because it IS a short story. It's more difficult for an author to encourage the reader into deep emotional investment in short stories.

If you have seen the movie Divergent or read the Divergent book you know what the Dauntless hazing initiation is like, roughly. If not, I'll be recommending this short story as this one is an interesting study in going through this ritual. The reader gets to see some of Four's transition from living his whole life with one set of rules, and now, with a different faction, he is confronted with vastly different rules, and “no rules” in some cases. There's some internal drama going on there.

Also, it is from Four's point of view, which is the literary diamond ring females get excited about.

There's a little violence in the story, and a little harmless flirting. That doesn't come across as traumatic to the reader, but it does show character development. One nugget I enjoyed learning in this short story is some of the back-story between Eric and Four. I'm confident more will be revealed in the other short stories, but what I did learn was a cherished bit of the Divergent story for me.

This is prequel story #0.2 in the Divergent stories timeline. My preference would be to read a Divergent book or see the movie before this story. All the Divergent novels are told from first person point of view of Trish. This story is Four's point of view, and much of his backstory that gives a strong attraction on readers deeply invested in the sexual tension going on in the series.

In the end, it is Divergent series story, and any fan is going to enjoy it whenever they read it.

I believe I've written a good review without spoilers! And Hey, whispersync is available. I love that Kindle audio gadget when my budget permits.

Four's story continues past his decision to transfer factions and we, the readers, get a chance to see what his own initiation was like. The challenges he faces and the way things unfold test Four in new ways and help explain how the circumstances of Divergent came to be.

The second of four prequel shorts, I feel like this one is the most telling about the Dauntless and many of the secondary characters (like Eric) and where they're coming from by the time Tris arrives. An intriguing and engaging follow up to the end of the series. I'm definitely planning to continue with the remaining two stories...

As Four goes through Initiation, he succeeds above what anyone would expect. Thankfully, Amar is understanding of his status as Divergent, and keeps his secret. However, when Jeanine Matthews becomes suspicious of how well he is doing for an Abnegation-Dauntless transfer. it may cost more then he expects. In this short story, we also begin to see where his hate of Eric comes from.

**read as part of Four: A Divergent Collection**

The second installment in the Four quartet of novellas was a decent read. However I did find my mind wandering at times, it just didn't hold my attention as well as "The Transfer". It's been a while since I have read the Divergent trilogy and I might have enjoyed this story more if I remembered all the characters from before. 3/5

I continue to enjoy Four's story as he learns to hide part of who he is and becomes Dauntless. I recommend reading this after Divergent, but before Insurgent. Once again, I know a lot more than Four. I like how this story reveals how Tobias changed. It even hints to the back tattoo that he has in the series. Of course, you have to read it to catch the clues in here. It wouldn't hurt to read this first, but it would take away from Tris' story.

This is the first view of the flaws in the system. Also, we now see divergence, but it has not been named. By the end of this short story, you find that bring aware during simulations means something (and maybe deadly), but it's not blatant.

A very well written novella with interesting well developed characters. The plot is a young man finding his place in a new society. I would recommend this series too anyone who enjoys SI-FI. Enjoy reading

Hehe, see what I did there? I gave it four stars! Get it?!
Okay, so this book was pretty magical for all of us Divergent fan girls who are going through withdrawals. Sure, it's not the best book ever made- like Divergent, for example- but it's pretty darn close. Who doesn't want to see inside Four's head? Plus it was fun to predict what was going to happen next and totally get it right. Veronica Roth was able to flawlessly create Four's story without the reader being like, "Wait, wasn't he with Tris then?" Which is awesome.
So, if you love Divergent, you will love this book. Side note: Don't read this book before Divergent. It won't make sense because he doesn't explain the faction system and such.

A 5 star rating because although it's a short story, it gave a lot of insight to the story behind Amar's "death" and Four's feelings surrounding it. I felt more of a connection to the characters in this story. Made it more real. Great read!

it was too short, it should have gone on right up to the first book. What his job was, how he dealt with Eric after the results. What his life was like. More insights into his world. There just wasn't enough back story.

Roth is desperate for money, nickel and dime! This is silly to write like this and expect readers to pay for a few paragraphs instead of writing a book. Like I said she must be desperate, she sure not a writer.
