This ebook had basically the same content as the booklet that comes with the boxed set. I already had that, so it was good that this was free. Don't bother buying it, though, if you already have the booklet.

Can't wait for the third book this fall! I also recently read the Divergent trilogy and The Born trilogy, both good (although I was a little let down by the 3rd Divergent book), but I think I like Sanctum even more so far.

I was disappointed by the ending. How often does an author kill off the main character that we've come to know and love? I think that there could have been a way to have just as powerful of an ending by keeping Tris alive to continue building her relationship with Tobias. They could have worked together in government to make "their city" a better place for everyone and to help those from the fringe. Like Tobias, Tris could have used her immense inner strength and compassion, instead of her physical abilities we've become accustomed to.
That aside, there was much about this book, and the series, that I really liked, if not loved. I am looking forward to what this relatively young author, Veronica Roth, has in store for the future. I am definitely a fan, and even though I don't know her, I am so proud of what she has been able to accomplish. I have a friend who was so disappointed with the ending that she has no intention of reading anything more by this author. I wouldn't go that far, even though I don't agree with some of her writing choices. I am very excited to see what else Roth comes up with in that brain of hers. I loved the Divergent movie, and I am looking forward to the other films in the series as well.

This book is awesome! But I read it all in less than an hour. I like to be reading a book for many days or even a week. If you are a book worm like I am I recommend you don't get this but it was still a good book

It's not bad just want terribly interesting for me. Best parts were the manifestos and the quiz to see which faction you belonged in. (I am divergent: abnegation, amity, and dauntless. ) If you're not a huge fan of the author, don't bother.

Ahh I really can't wait for Allegiant now!! I need it NOW! This little ebook gives us some quotes from Allegiant and has all their manifestos and there's also a little quiz in there to see what faction you would be, it definitely puts you back into the world! Which is exactly what I needed after not reading it for a while!

This novella has some really great details inside. It'd be very helpful for Divergent lovers who need to do some brushing-up on the series before reading Allegiant. :) The teasers for Allegiant were also quite intriguing.
Loved it!

Well written and enjoyable; a great way for fans of the series to prepare for the final book! You can have fun by taking the faction quiz and also by reading the different manifestos. It really gives great insight into the world Roth has created; it really is a must read for fans.

The short interview was entertaining. Veronica Roth explains some of her decisions for the plot and her inspiration for the characters and world that she created. It's insightful, but definitely not worth purchasing if it's not free.

It was free so I cant complain. It was just the author rambling on about her ideas mostly. I liked the faction manifesto's that was a plus side. Except most of them are a lot longer than what I pictured.

Veronica Roth could have just blog posted those teasers. The rest of the stuff in this ebook if found in many editions of "Divergent", such as the faction manifestos and faction quiz.
Also, a lie:
There weren't ten teasers. There were 8. I mean, its not huge since Allegiant is right around the corner, but I would like some delivery.
Get this for those teasers, that's all the point I really see to this. 4 stars for the awesome teaser lines!
I have a mini more in depth review of this over on my blog.

Meh! Not really worth my time since I didn't start reading the trilogy until all 3 books were released. Therefore, I didn't need a refresher on the previous 2 books, nor a teaser for the 3rd (as a read them all back to back in a week). Thankfully it was a free download.

I loved being able to get to know the whys of how things became to be in the world of Divergent. The reasons for why the factions are named what they are we're so not what I thought they would be. But do have to say that now I understand it so much more than I did before. All the quotes from the next book just makes me want to read it all the more.

I thought this was the actual book... it was not. I was fooled into thinking it was the actual book.... How dare they fool me... Oh well at least it was free.... I'm glad I didn't have to pay our the store would be sending my money back

The author gives her reasoning behind major plot points in the book and I enjoyed reading this. Of course, it's not long enough to fully satiate my craving for Allegiant's release in October, but it has the manifesto of each faction, which is neat. And the quotes from Allegiant are really something to get you speculating.

Veronica Roth betrays the reader. I say this for several reasons. First, she distorts the characters so that their actions are not compatible with their behavior in the other two books; she uses them to get our attention, but doesn't let them grow. Second, too many people die needlessly --- not surprising in a violent book, but not managed well in this particular read --- and it turns the plot/point of the series on its head. Third, this is a light genre (it's a romance, really) cloaked in dystopian violence -- I expect the ending to get me somewhere close to what I want (close to what I expect, really); turning my expectations on their heads does not make this a literary work (clever devices don't either).
I'm reading the first two books again (don't think I subject myself to the third again) to look for foreshadow. I was surprised by pieces of the plot in Allegiant. There were several story lines that I did not "see coming". I'm wondering whether I can find in the first two books something to give me a heads-up for hard-to-swallow pieces of Allegiant. *** It's frustrating to find myself going back to the first two books in the trilogy for decent denouement! *** I'd much rather reread to savor passages and "relive" twisty plot turns.
A fantastic device (dual first-person narrative voices), which is meant to give insight into Four's perspective, is squandered. Four's chapters are indistinguishable from Triss'... to the point that part way through a chapter, I'd have to flip back to the chapter heading to clarify which character had the first-person perspective for that bout. Triss is whiny from the beginning of the books. Four sounds too much like her. His prose should reflect his actions -- tight, decisive, self-assured -- I expected **efficient**, even terse from him. Disappointment. It seems like this wimpy voice continues in the insight-into-Four mini-series that's being released as novellas.
The heroine doesn't grow. She doesn't become part of the community/faction that she stretched herself to enter. She does whatever she wants, without consulting any of her Faction leaders (not even Four), without thinking things through. Even at the very end, *she puts her first (ill-conceived) solution* into effect... I won't say whether she goes through with it, but I will say that I was/am disappointed in her lack of team spirit. I'm not a blind follower, but I am a big believer in submitting to the authority to which I have sworn allegiance. Triss refuses to respect (let alone submit to) the hard-working and experienced Dauntless faction leaders, and I do not respect her for that.
Veronica Roth squanders the title, Allegiant, as well. I expected an entity (core group or leadership) that was worth living for to emerge in the course of this book. It was a messy, painful business to see slimy morals in every direction (as far as potential leaders). I thought the Dauntless would get leaders worthy of their dedication and sweat/grit, an intellectual or political leadership that would strive for a higher and fairer world -- one that Four and Triss could be proud of and grow into. "Allegiant" is pinned to a very small group (hardly noticeable) that pops up somewhere in the middle of the book. While the name caught my attention, the group (if it even grows into that) is quickly subsumed into power struggles between equally base leaders... all of them some form of a "rock" or a "hard place". I missed the group that would hold the moral high ground.
There is no good guy among the leaders -- the closest thing to compassion among any of the leaders shows up *way too late* in the story line. +++ Spoiler at the bottom of this write-up +++
Triss was arrogant and didn't trust anyone but herself to do anything right.
Overall, this book reads like the author was, at best, being rushed to finish writing it. My daughter asked me, about the most recent Ranger's Apprentice book, whether an author can go back later and rewrite a book. I'm sure she was thinking along the lines of a "redo". If that sort of rewrite is possible, I hope it happens with Allegiant. It's got lots of great ideas/images, but it doesn't rise above them to a coherent denouement.

About Four's mother...
She's only compassionate in the epilogue -- after she's past her power -- and all of the best characters are dead.
About Four's grief...
It isn't handled as anything beyond a "4 stages of grief" analysis -- and I could (as another reviewer put it) get that from the psychology books -- I don't need to have my fantasy/dystopia read ruined. The only way I could stand the ending was to (guess I'm stuck in the 1st stage of grief) pretend that Triss is still alive at the end. What point was there in her dying? Why should I go along with an ending that leaves Four fouled (yes, fouled -- not foiled nor fooled)?
About Four's political ambitions...
It's too bad that he doesn't have a mentor; there's no one to look up to. He may run for office, but he doesn't have a party.
About Four's political ambitions, still...
What happens to the big, bad manipulative world outside the Experiment. Is he content with the leadership outside of Chicago? Has their rebellion done anything to change the national order -- other than cover up the death/havoc wreaked to clean up the dirty dealings within O'Hare?
About Four's lack of backbone throughout most of this book...
I find it hard to believe that Four would spiral into debilitating self-doubt when he finds out that he's not of the "better sort". The one who fights his fears would *rebel* against the entire concept... not cave in, not fall prey to the first semi-hot female who encourages him to question the system. He follows the traitor-turncoat into a life-threatening situation with no moral point (and with the still, small voice within him whining about maybe-not-doing-the-right-thing by following her to the lawless frontier.

I chose a five star rating because this book gives you more than just a preview. You get the manifestos and the factions. The quotes leave you wondering what is going to happen. I loved "Divergent" and "Insurgent." I look forward to reading "Allegiant."

This book doesn't provide more than one paragraph that is not in the Insurgent book. Mostly just behind the scene's stuff like where the faction names come from and why they were chosen. Good thing it's free!

I'd been moderately anticipating this for a while, if only because of the quotes from Allegiant, but this was both better than and worse than I expected.
I'll explain.
So, for me it seemed to categorize itself into three parts: about writing it, about the factions, and Allegiant quotes. I read veronica's blog religiously, so I recognized the beginning essays as all old posts from her blog, slightly modified. It was, however, nice to re-red (or skim) them, just as a way to get back to the roots and core of the story before I moved on. So, that part was better than I expected.
The second part I didn't really look at at all, because it consisted of faction manifestos and a faction quiz, both of which were in the back of my paperback copy of Divergent. They were not, however, in my kindle copy, so I'd have enjoyed these if I hadn't seen them before.
The third part, the teasers, felt a little weak. While I was intrigued by them, they didn't really introduce any new possibilities that I hadn't already figured out.
In short, buy this if you only have kindle copies of Divergent, or are freaking out because you can't wait any longer (Sarah T). If you're on the fence (anybody get the pun? no? ok)go ahead and buy it - it is free after all!

0.5/5 Burgs. Because you woke me up and didn't give me any goodies.
If you are looking for hidden "insider" info, you won't really find much in this extremely short.. pamphlet? In fact, it kinda just pissed me off. Even though at 3 a.m. I may not be the most perceptive, I did realize that this wasn't much more then a media release similar to things we saw from J.K. Rowling. What Faction are you? - List of questions. What creeds do they stand for? List of attributes blah blah blah. An extremely small author interview with Veronica Roth followed by a few "quotes" from the book was all that was offered here to generate actual reading material that couldn't already be found in the previous books. I probably have to go back and read the other books again as I am sure many do, but really only one quote jumped out at me as "Oh, I wonder what that could be about?" So meh.
We love HarperCollins around here and we understand hype, marketing, all that, but here's my issue: Don't put a Baconator in front of me, then pull it away and say "Oh sorry, you gotta wait a month." I would say go ask the last guy who did that what happened but he isn't around any more.
On another note, it's free, but not worth getting up for at 3 a.m. "free".
I'm going back to bed. Somebody fire that guy at the store.
Oh and if anyone actually cares, I am Erudite, obviously.

This book was a good wrap-up for a trilogy but I don't have a desire to read the next book, Four. I give it a high rating just for the ending but liking the book was a struggle at times. I didn't like the dual-voice style where Tris and Four trade-off chapters. It adds interest but slowed the pace and caused loss of momentum.
I liked that this book explained more of the world and reasons for the different clans. However, portions of the book were unclear (more likely not convincing). Specifically, the book talks about genetics but the good/bad of genetic modification isn't convincing. Like the other books in this series, there is plenty of violence. The ending was good for me but will be a deal-breaker for some readers.
If you loved the first Divergent book and were satisfied with the 2nd book then this book is worth reading.

Thank goodness this “book"was free. The World of Divergent: The Path To Allegiant was just a marketing device. I would only recommend it to a crazed fan. Don't get me wrong, I loved Divergent, but this was a waste of time.
So we start with a page and a half of a quote by Marcus talking about the factions, so a bunch of stuff we already know. Whatever. Then we have Veronica Roth talking about utopian and dystopian worlds. BORING! Then it's a section about the meanings of the words that are the factions and Veronica Roth talking about what they say about the factions and why she chose them. Also boring and does not give any insight into the book at all. Next we have Veronica Roth talking about names- her nicknames, name changes of people in popular books and movies, Tris and Tobias's names. Why is it not surprising that this is boring too? Then there's a faction quiz. That was okay. I was Erudite. Of course. And then there are the faction manifestos. What a disappointment. Abnegation's was very short and not really worth reading. I'll admit, I kind of liked Amity's. Candor's and Erudite's just went ON and ON. I didn't finish Candor's, and I only finished Erudite's because I got that faction for the quiz. Dauntless's was okay. Not horrible, not great.
And finally, the promised "first look" at Allegiant. I agree with some of the other reviewers: A bunch of random quotes is NOT a first look!!!!!!!! There were only a couple quotes that were actually interesting. A good first look would be the first chapter, or part of it.
All in all I would not recommend this book. I'm taking it off of my Kindle once I finish this review.

The Path to Allegiant is interesting but by no means its reading is indispensable or necessary to the understanding of the next book, Allegiant. The author explains a bit about the process of creating factions and their denominations and discusses the utopian versus dystopian world, without much depth in the subject. It presents us with a "personality" test to identify which of the factions would fit us, and although the answers are predictable to the final result, it is interesting. After this test, we get the faction manifestos and some quotes from Allegiant, nothing more.

It's honestly like the author got tired of the series or didn't know where to go with the story. When she gave up waiting for inspiration, she simply killed it instead of waiting or working it through. This last book rambled, the plot got loose, another voice swaps for first person, then she pretend "ties" up the story loose ends by just killing off all the principle characters and ending their society. . . oh, but first rewrites the love interest as a suddenly watered down version of his former self.

This book by Veronica Roth is the last book in the trilogy "Divergent". Just like the first book, "Divergent", it was action packed, descriptive, and intriguing. It was also just like the second book "Insurgent" because it was romantic. Personally I do not think that some of the details that Veronica Roth used were necessary but they made the book complete. I think that without the romance the book would just be like "The Hunger Games" but when the author added all of the close up details it made me feel like I was reading something completely different.
I gave the book a 5 star rating because the book was extraordinary. It was dangerous, and action packed, yet romantic all at once. I believe that this book was the best one of the trilogy. Even though it wasn't as action packed as "Divergent" it was still good. I am a boy and I like to read action books, but I do not like drama and romance books, but this book had all 3 of those and that is why I believe it is the best book I have read in my life so far. As to anyone who is considering starting the trilogy, I highly recommend it. This last book in the trilogy is my favorite book ever. My advice, GO GET IT NOW!!

I loved the first two books, expected a sad ending, but not a sloppily written and edited book. Literature deserves better! I'm certain the publishers are laughing all the way to the bank. The plot holes, main character narratives with sudden personality changes, genetic ignorance, and a near divorce from the first two books leaves the plot quizzical. The basic tenants on what divergents roles changes in a way that just makes no sense. Disgusting is the only word I have for such shoddy craftsmanship. Although many people made money from this sad escapade, Roth may never recover as an author. Roth, please get new and better editors, and listen to them, if you ever write again.

This was just like the "bonus materials" included at the end of Divergent, which were NOT "bonus materials" in the usual sense at all. The faction manifestos were boring, the Q&A with Veronica Roth was egotistical and self-serving, the discussion questions were frankly stupid, and this was just a cheap ploy to squeeze out a few more pennies for material that would be free from anyone else. It is NOT more story, nor is it more insight into any of the characters or situations they encountered. REPEAT: SAVE YOUR MONEY!

i am an adult who often reads good YA fiction and love the world of Divergent. I took three online faction tests on different sites and on all i tested as ,: Amity. And reading the Amity manifesto here as well as the others I gained more understanding of the factions. i look forward to the short stories coming out and of course the movie.

I would recommend this book to my friends, because we love Tris and Tobias, or Four and Six. The, or my world, at least, couldn't possibly be the same without them in it. I'm very lucky that I found the Divergent trilogy.
I know this is weird, but I prefer to call Tobias, well, Tobias, but because I didn't have anyone around me at the time I started reading Divergent, I always called Four Tobias, but pronounced it like Tobeas not Tob-eye-as... ya know?
All in all, I think this is a really great book and if you hadn't read the trilogy yet, well you'd better start because the movie comes out in March. !!!!!! Yayyyy!!

I was so hooked on this trilogy that I read all three in 4 days! Expecting to get a happy ending where Tris and Tobias are together. When I got to the part where she dies, I thought surely somehow they will bring her back to life and stupidly continued to read this CRAP! I couldn't believe it! I wish I never read any of them. I understand to her this was more realistic, but when I read a book like this I am reading it to get away from how real and unfair life can be and submerge myself in what most people wish, a happy ending! I will not see this movie when it comes out! Pure disappointment and waste of my time!

I’m not going to say that Roth is a bad writer; clearly she did something right for us to care as much about the characters as we do. The problem I have is that she got the reader to care about these characters throughout the first two books and then decided she needed to teach us a lesson: that life isn’t always fair or doesn’t always have a happy ending. Most people in the universe already know this; why does she think we are getting so involved in this series that she created in the first place? To get an ESCAPE from the harsh realities of the world. To take ourselves outside of our day to day lives. To become immersed in action, suspense, love, and ultimately leave an emotionally satisfying feeling of having just read a truly good book. This rings especially true with a genre directed towards young adults. With Allegiant, Roth took the care for these characters that we developed for over a span of over 1,000 pages (most if it read in FIRST person in Tris’ point of view) and our trust in this series and basically just completely ruined it. I’ve been reading the alternative fanfiction version Determinant and it by far has a better plot line and structure than the third installment originally by Roth. With a little editing and polishing, I think the author of Determinant could really be on to something. So a big thank you to Roth for turning Four into a big whiny wuss and for a ridiculous ending with the unnecessary death of the main beloved character of the series. Well done. Really was just the nail in the coffin for me NEVER reading these books again. Again, people, read at your own risk.

I did not like the ending. I was soo looking forward to reading this book but when I read the ending I was in shock. The book overall was not as good as the other books. Spoiler alert, do not read this if you want to find this out on your own. No offence to the Veronica Roth but who make the main character die???

A second book in the the World of Divergent. Again Veronica Roth captures your attention and keeps you going with the twists and turns of the story of Tris and Four. Good read and definite page turner.

I chose to rate this book because I liked what the author had to say so much that I couldn't resist. I have never rated a book before, but I chose to now because I believe everyone should take the chance to read through it. I particularly enjoyed it because what was said made complete and total sense to me and one day I hope to live by what I believe to be true in this book and teach my children what I believe should be taught to them from this book.

After waiting so long for the last book, I found it a little sad. I felt sad for the characters once the secrets of the city were revealed. Then bored because it took so long to resolve the story. I understand why the ending was what it was...trying not to spoil...but I didn't think it all fit.

I thought the book was very interesting. It helped describe how the factions, people, and place came to be. I was definitely glad it was free because it was really short. If you enjoyed the divergent series, I would definitely recommend this book for you.
