Step by step on every detail of the financial statements. On occasion it felt like an example (beautifully done with one page of statements and the opposite page describing the actions being taken for the transaction) had already been covered, but in the end he leaves no stone unturned. If a basics building book is what you're looking for- this is it.

It is a cute, short book perfect for emerging readers. As with all "Step 1" books, it is not text-heavy and is simple to follow. The words are not all easy phonetic words though so it is better for kids who are able to use more complex deciphering. The story features the Thomas taking a crazy ride thanks to an accidental coupling with a jet engine and he quickly (pun intended) becomes the fastest train in Sodor. What fun! Besides, who doesn't love Thomas?? :)

Although I haven't finished reading this book... (Kindle Edition)... I give the content of this book four stars.

Once I remembered that learning anything new requires some effort, & ceased fretting about not getting the spoon-fed presentation that a paperback would provide, I was happy with my purchase.

I have a widescreen Acer monitor, so instead of fretting with the Kindle PC version display, I used the Windows OS software to switch from landscape mode to portrait mode, and physically turned the screen.

I did have to adjust the:
* Words per line.
* Font Size

....using the Kindle for PC font icon.

But after that, reading & studying the content got easier.

Will post more as I progress through the book.

Cheers.

I was disappointed to to see how lackluster the chapter on the Cash Flow statement was. This is the most important of the financial statements as it provides no room for accounting tricks yet this book breezed over it. Every Cash Flow statement I've seen has three parts, Cash Flow from Investing, Financing, and Operations. This book only mentions Cash Flow from Operations. Additionally, one of the most important parts of fundamental analysis is free cash flow and those words don't even appear to be in the book! C'mon!

The first book one should read before undertaking serious study of Financial Statements. Often textbooks begin straight with assumption that the reader is some finance wizard who knows everything about the terms used. This is the only book I have encountered so far which unwinds complex terms most lucidly.

This book is great at "dumbing it down" for those of us who find financial statements daunting. I learned so much from this book and keep it in my office to refer to fairly regularly. I have also given this book to employees to have them read.

This is a great, very consistent book about accounting. The example transactions are very nice, author shows a great understanting regarding subject and explains really well.
My only complain is about Kindle version: when I read this book on Kindle DX several images don't have a good resolution, they are blur. Except this minor issue, I recommend this book to everyone interested on Financial Statements: if you want to learn about accounting, be a better investor or in your own business.

I bough the paperback for the reasons below -
1. The book is very well organized. It guides you to understand each term, sheet, statement etc. step by step. It's very easy to follow and hard to get confused by the accounting languages as a non-professional

2. The fonts are big enough to read. The key points are highlight to catch attention and easy to remember. The important tables/contents are repeating and arranged within a page.

3. I'm paper book lover, and it's easy to flip back and forth to review the contents.

Love it!

This is a very-very well written book!! Really to the point; easy to read.
It is an excellent choice for whoever wants to get the basics of accounting and to acquire a good understanding of the subject (which is what most people want).
It includes a great example that goes step-by-step showing how a number of transactions affect each of the 3 financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, cash flow.

Enthusiastically recommended!

If you're attempting to develop your financial intelligence, its important to understand not only financial terms, but how financial statements (and they're standard in America regardless of what industry you operate in) work.

This book does a good job making a very dry subject interesting and understandable. I feel much more knowledgeable now than I did before reading this book. That being said, just quickly reading through the book won't magically enlighten you. I took notes and wrestled with the concepts in order to gain the basic understanding I now have.

This book is excellent. Basic and for beginners. You may need little help to undersand some issues but this will not affect the idea that this book is very simple to understand than the academic books. The book explain how to create the 3 financial statements by giving an exmaple of a comapny. It is a step by step anaylsis. You will feel as if you are in real practical life. Go get it. If ever you did not find it convenient, still, you will not regret buying it.

I am a long time business owner wanting to sharpen my financial accounting skills. I found the format of this book engaged my curiosity, and held my interest throughout. The book teaches financial accounting from the perspective of an entrepreneur launching a business. The author clearly explains how to record the majority of transactions a small to medium sized business will see and later gets into the foundations of some financial analysis techniques such as ratio analysis and DCF analysis using NPV and IRR. Since the concepts are taught through the eyes of a business owner facing challenges and decisions similar mine, it was easy to relate to and truly learn.

Had a hardcopy. But because i soon needed extra space, I had to get rid of a lot of books. This one was important enough to actually purchase the Kindle edition so I could use with my Tablet. The presentation is one of the most practical I found, taking it step by step for usual transactions and basic accounting. It also shows the impact on the financial statements. It is somewhere between basic bookkeeping and intermediate accounting. The step by step approach I found helpful and enabled me to fill the gap quickly since my formal training is in other areas.

This book provides a great introduction to understanding financial statements, but also delivers so much more. The depth of information is useful for anyone that deals with financial statements or is looking to expand their knowledge of the statements. This is a must buy!

Enjoyed reading through this clearly illustrated book on basic accounting principles. With the "lingo" of accounting explained, this sets a good foundation for the reader to tackle the more detailed/complex accounting principles they may encounter in the future. This book's style of detailing a specific transaction on the right hand side of the page and illustrating it's impact on the three financial statements - cash flow, Income and Balance Sheet on the left hand side of the page helps speed up understanding of the points being made by the author. To top of it off the writing has a healthy dose of humor in it; an unexpected find in an accounting book.
