I really enjoyed this. But, I must say that sometimes the info was overbearing and I had to read over some things to get what was actually being said. I really liked the plot of the story, it was nice, enjoyable, and one hell of a ride. The characters were well thought out and really amazing. I loved this book and look forward to reading more.

Refreshingly original. The story is easy to slip into, and fascinating in its slow reveal. Unlike some books the time scale didn't feel rushed to aid the plot, nor does it have frustratingly dull moments to keep up with the time scale.
Chapters blend perfectly, leaving each one at its own mini cliff hanger, with no major time gaps inbetween chapters.
A good read, if the person is interested in fantasy. The main character is fiery but not overbearing. In other words, this books knows moderation, making it elegant in a simple sort of way.

While the story is actually very good, the author really should hire some proof-readers. There are quite a few grammatical errors. However, if you don't mind overlooking them, you will enjoy this tale of a young mage just discovering her powers.

Sworn To Raise: Courtlight #1 Once started I could hardly put the book down. Captivating characters in a great setting with a wonderful story line. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Wonderful author who captivates you in the first few pages.

Interesting book. The main character is an 18 year old girl who gets caught up in the intrigue between Prince Sebastian and people who don't want him to inherit the throne after his father. First book of a series. Starts out slow but picks up nicely.

Interesting concept, with some glossing over of the details of how things happen, but hey, this is YA Fantasy, right? Enjoyable read, definitely wanted to keep dreading to finish book, and definitely want to read the next book in the series. I always like it when I read a book that I like, and then find there are already multiple other books in the series.

I love to read fantasy with a magical twist. This book has that. I was looking for something to read that is like the Nine Kingdoms series by Lynn Kurland. I can happily say I have found another follow. I was so busy reading the story that I did not cheat to the end. Not a boring scene in the entire book but no spoilers.

I ordered this book because the cover and the brief synopsis caught my attention. It took me a while to finally sit down and read but, even with a few grammar errors, this story pulled me in. I loved the idea and the path the story took and am excited to see what happens in the rest of the series!

The entire concept of the book was amazing, I was hooked from the start. I found this book lacked the world building in some of Ms. Edun's other book. There were some moments when I just could not understand(maybe it has to do with me being a guy?), I even put the book down as a dnf(which I absolutely hate doing) until I revisited it recently(and this time did finish).Overall pretty good book, if you liked the Selection Series, you'll probably like this as well.

The pace of the story starred out strong. The characters were interesting, and the world building fun and organic. Then as it progressed, I wasn't quite sure where the plot was going, there was a lot going on, however -- it was an enjoyable read.

A predictable plot, and a remarkably dumb heroine. Really - if you overhear someone plotting to kill the Heir, whom you have met and get along with, wouldn't you *say* something to your guardian? A guard? Anyone?

I like the character. Like the way the story takes her from hopelessness to options.
Like the way it is written. It flows well and is a fun read!
Totally enjoyed it. Thanks for a great read, when I was seeking a new book/author to enjoy!

This was an enjoyable, quick-read fantasy. It had a somewhat familiar storyline. A poor orphan is "discovered" to be the lost heiress, and has unexpected magical gifts. (My main complaint is with the cover art. While it is a nice picture, it doesn't seem to accurately depict the main character, who is described as having a "dusky complexion." I was looking forward to a "different" heroine.)

This is actually a really great story and I really enjoy the writer's style. It definitely is quite an original type of story. Follows along with the magic type stuff, but the theories and connections on how it all works is very different.

This was pretty good. Courtlight seems to be written to a younger audience but still enjoyable. Some scenes seemed rushed but still well thought out. Definitely interested in reading the rest of the series.

I just finished reading this and am really excited to see where it will go next. I felt myself cheering for the "underdog" that Ciardis seems to be portrayed as. I LOVE to see one of the people that society has deemed less than themselves triumph. Great story! I can't wait to read the next one!

The storyline definitely had potential but it wasn't delivered. The author gives a lot of details for the dresses, baths, rooms that events take place in but completely skips out on giving any kind of context. 1- What on earth is this kingdom that the story is taking place - some kind of description of would have helped a lot. 2 - We're told that the main heroine is training to be a Companion but given no idea what that means; you have to keep guessing and sometimes it sounds like it's a mage, sometimes a wife and sometimes a glorified mistress. Pretty confusing!
The other huge downside is that the development of the main character is simply unbelievable! The only magical transformation we're told of is the "copying" of reading and one of the languages into her brain - given that it's magical, I can buy that. But then we're expected to also believe that she goes from an ignorant, illiterate washer woman is a tiny village in the middle of nowhere to a very confident, sophisticated socialite who is very comfortable around nobility and overall displays the kind of skills that people spend lifetime developing - all within 6 months and with no magical influence whatsoever! Just too many too many things going against this book for it to be an enjoyable read.

Lots of magic in worlds that have similarities to ours and yet are different, people are interesting, plot line moves well, yea there are things to critique if you didn't like the book, but I did, so I won't.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. I was shocked and dismayed when I reached the end of it, only to find I would need to read the next book to find out what happens, well...next. LOL Good read.

Ciardis is given the opportunity of a lifetime to make something of her rough life. She finds herself to the Companions Guild by the help if a sponsor. She makes her way navigating through courtly politics, unfamiliar customs, and discovering her magical heritage. A definite must read!

Pleasantly surprised! This book reminds me of The Ranger's Apprentice series, which I also enjoyed. Ciardis is an orphan with no options for the future, until she is taken under the wing of a Companion, a powerful group that helps the rich, powerful, and/or magical to stay that way. This book is about her journey as she trains and selects a Patron. It was a very fast read, looking forward to more.

An interesting read. This book Sworn To Raise, is a rather short book and ends quite abruptly. One minute you're following the story and you turn the page and the book ends in the middle of a scene. Seems like the author was more interested in selling a sequel and split the book.

I chose the 4 stars because there were several minor errors in the book, such as spelling and punctuation. It was a little bit distracting at points. However, it is a wonderful story, with great characters, and beautiful descriptions. I love this book and cannot wait to read more!

If you enjoy fantasy, intrigue, coming of age and magic, then it's hard to go wrong with this story. Actually the only thing wrong is lust a few minor editing errors, but the story itself was good fun. Now on to the sequel.

this book was recommended to me because of what I've read from the store. enjoyable descriptions. bit of a Cinderella story but with magic. just enough differences to make worth a read. I hope the author continues to write in this genre. I would enjoy following up on ciardos in further stories.

I recently found bookbub and picked up this and 50 other Kindle books for free. This is the first one I decided yo read and I was very glad I did. The story telling was fast paced and intriguing. I agree with one reviewer who compared the enjoyment to Tamora Pierce's world. The book was just as captivating. I woud say there were a few grammatcal errors and a few scenes felt rushed but it was a great book all and all.
