Very pleasant read. I could smell that beautiful bread, the salt in the air, hear the pounding waves, the buzzing of bees and imagine the joy of life with a puffin as a buddy. Love the non-confrontational characters. Every one has a story to tell. I was sad when I had finished the book as I just wanted more.

A fulfilling book, not one that left you hanging. The characters were lovable, unique and enjoyable. The story was a happy tale through and through and though fairytalish rang with genuine truth. The more I read, the more real it all became. The setting was constructed beautifully and I hope to return there again.

A really interesting story, well written, with a lot of smaller stories embeded. Especially enjoyed the mention of the lighthouse and the role it plays as well as well as the Life Boat Personnel. Very enjoyable read.

Polly's business and relationship go bankrupt, so she moves to an island that is cut off from the mainland every time the tide comes in. She falls into a business doing what she loves and makes friends along the way. Oh, and she rescues a stranded baby puffin and carries him around in a knapsack.
His name is Neil.
If you like JoJo Moyes (without all that messy crying), you would like this. I laughed while reading it...on an airplane. Some of the dialog is that good.
For my star rating, I was torn between a 3 (It was OK) and 4 (I liked it) because most of the book I liked (descriptions of the baking, Polly's spunkiness, the funny dialog, all the characters and ...hello...a PET PUFFIN), but other parts (romance out of nowhere...no credibility, no description of why, just "Oy, I love you." "Oy! Huh, me, too. What say we get together and shag or something?"). But since the romance was only a small part of the book, I will let the 4 rating take precedence.

This is a sweet, romantic story of a woman overcoming major setbacks and finding her purpose in life. It moves along at a steady pace, in keeping with the slower style of life she espouses. I really enjoyed it.

This is a quiet (but eventful), well written, and delicious little morsel. I loved reading it ... and loved looking forward to reading it every evening.
I do think that women would enjoy it more than men.

Colgan expertly engages the reader though the plot is well known. She develops her characters with good humor and credible dilemmas that make the reader hold her breath. Descriptive paragraphs of the land and sea are lovely. The bread recipes are a plus and tempt even a novice cook to try.
