I just do not enjoy British based novels. This one
Was WEll-Written but it could have been half as long if the character telling the story had not had to describe all three meals of the day as well as tea time.

I have always loved English mysteries from Sherlock Holmes to Miss Marple. This story is in that tradition. Not having to stress on the gruesome murders but the clever sleuthing of Miss Hart and Miss Hunter!

Even though I didn't realize there were other books ahead of this one..It was wonderfully written as a stand alone murder mystery. The heroines were bright and curious.I loved the fact that they tied in the whole notion, that the servants see and hear everything..Great read!
A Demons of Fire and Night Novel (The Vampire's Mage Series Book 4) :: The Relic Hunters :: A Dylan Hunter Justice Thriller (Dylan Hunter Thrillers Book 2) :: Tharaen (Immortal Highlander Book 2) - A Scottish Time Travel Romance :: Max Perkins: Editor of Genius

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Two heroines are people you might like to have a cup of tea with one afternoon. Author did a good job of writing and creating an appropriate period atmosphere. I like that the heroines didn't keep running off and doing ridiculous things.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the setting of the story and the time period. It is what I refer to as a cozy mystery. You read it and enjoy it without chills and thrills. The main characters are interesting.

It was a tad slow for me, but entertaining.

Believeable characters, well researched details, and an enjoyable puzzle. Just what a snowy day needs. Fun to see the manor house from the eyes of the servants. There's no f,- words and embarrassing sex acts. Just a good story well told.

Enjoyable story, kept my interest better than other books I've read. Reminiscent of Upstairs, Downstairs PBS series, with likeable main characters. Kept me wondering who the murderer was until the end.

While enjoying the downstairs characters, i was reminded of the definite class structure and the difficult lives for those people. The way the main characters go about their normal jobs while at the same time aid the police is rather charming. Very relaxing read.

Two wonderful young ladies domestic help in those days of "downstairs" do a ripping good job of sleuthing. The pace was fast and the plot intricate. It kept me guessing till the end. A good cozy mystery.

I enjoyed this book, the portrayal of a servant's life, exhausting and hard and the mystery which was logical. The friendship of Joan and Verity was charming and believable. A pleasurable diversion.

Eñtertaining and well written. As other reviews pointed out, the setting and pace of the book made it fun to read. Just enough intregue to. Make you want to read just one more chapter before taking a break.

The heart is a lonely hunter....Certainly hard to figure out the guilty parties here where everyone has their secrets to guard. A bit flimsy and the heroines especially Joan are a bit one dimensional. Still, the series does have potential to develop in a sort of Maisie Dobbs fashion.
