Really enjoyed this book and very much hope there are more to come in the series. Intelligently written with strong and believable charectors, it is a very hard book to put down once you start reading.

Easy reading. The language and story feels a bit simple. I didn't get caught in the story, I actually looked forward for the book to end so I could read something else. It had some good twist and turns and I might pick up the next book a really rainy day when I don't have any other sci-fi to read... Maybe...

The crew gets into trouble. The captain finds a way out. Things happen that the crew and captain did not see coming. Exciting enough. Sometimes the solution isn't explained or elaborated. A major disappointment finding the trilogy has but two books.
Courageous (The Lost Fleet, Book 3) :: Relentless (The Lost Fleet Series) :: The Lost Planet (Lost Starship Series Book 6) :: The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier: Guardian :: The Originator Wars - Universe in Danger

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great read. B.V. Larson has done it again, another wonderful series with real characters. I am looking forward to see what he comes up with next for book 2 of the series.

Interesting use of military strategy and local politics. More could have been revealed about the integration of earth technology into the alien ship, thus giving the captain a more familiar feel for controlling it.

Another exiting story by B. V. Larson. 150 years after a Solar Flare destroyed so much of the Earth's technology and the worm holes used to reach Earth's colonies, William Sparhawk, Captain of a pinnace in Earth fleet makes a discovery that Earth fears. While dealing with Star Guard personnel that dislike him because of his father's political views and determination to disban the Star Guard, his ship discovers a massive starship which turns out to be from one of Earth's colony worlds. The discovery has chilling consequences. There are still wormholes to Earth. And they are going to find out that there are others out there that already know of the wormholes, in fact they are already on Earth.

Recommended read.

Space war stories are what they are and "Battle Cruiser" is a very good effort. It may not be "great art" and last the ages, but it gave me a few hours of enjoyment. I'll probably buy any sequels and will likely re-read the book in a few years. I'd rate it a solid "B" effort and that is far from bad!

The main character has some depth as do a few of the others but we learn little about any of the others. Perhaps they will be given dimension in subsequent books.

The premise seems sound - Earth has been cut off from its colonies for an extended period and is now going to have to get re-acquainted and deal with many concerns. One, in particular, the "Stroj" seem to have gone down a dark road and pose a serious threat.

Our hero is honorable, resourceful, and lucky. He starts out a relatively minor player but quickly becomes a critical figure.

There seem to be a number of books in this genre appearing in the last few years. Some seem to me to be better than others but I can't say I've read any that I thought were really "bad". If you like Sci-Fi battle stories, chances are, you'll like Battle Cruiser. It may not be my favorite book ever, but I certainly feel I got my money's worth. I hope you will too.

I had initial problems with this book and almost stopped reading, however, I have enjoyed Mr. Larson's books and series in the past and trudged on. I am sorry for the spoilers that follow but they explain my five star review after my inital sentence. This book is a reimaging of the classic SciFi book, The Marching Morons. The zoo keepers guiding these morons are Lt. Morris and Commander Halsey and possibly Midshipman Taranto and Ensign Yamada . When you can get a mind set that Captain Sparhawk and Chief Rumbold are channeling Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels from Dumber and Dumber, their dialog and actions become hilarious instead of pitiful. Even their names should have given me a hint. Remember this book is a farce, the plot is insane on the surface and most of the charactors are dysfunctional. The hero sometimes has inspirations that bring him to an our time adjusted IQ of 90.There are so many jokes in this book that become clear when you realize the situations should not be considered seriously. Even with five stars, please Mr. Larson, no more of this series. Mankind as too stupid is a one trick pony.

Imaginative story and universe. Lots of room to continue. Borrowed a lot from others for his society (Drake) and orbital station (Bradbury) . Some cartoonist characters but what the check, they were aliens. Another good read from Larson.
