Finding Gobi: A Little Dog with a Very Big Heart

My book arrived last night and I just finished it this afternoon! I couldn't put it down! Even though I have been following Gobi and her story since day one and I know how it ends, I was still holding my breath until the very end! I had no idea the story of Finding Gobi was so much more! I cried, I laughed, and I even got angry in spots! It's an emotional roller coaster of a ride with the bestest ending of all! It's my new favorite book and I hope one day to get to meet Gobi and Dion and may even get her pawtograph in My Book!!! :)

This is a great story for dog lovers and everyone else who loves a heartwarming, uplifting story. This is a great tale of love between a man and a stray little dog. It is well written and holds your attention wondering if the pair will get a happily ever after. It's a story that will stay with you and make you smile.

An amazing and heartwarming book about a bond formed been a man and a stray dog in the most unusual of circumstances but it is about so much more… perseverance, keeping the faith, defying the odds, excepting the help of others and listening to your own truth no matter the toll. Essentially life played out when a small dog, a man and a woman believed they were meant to be a family. I could not put it down. It spoke to me in a way few books do because it is a well-told story by a humble person working his way through the challenges of life. And making the most of it!

An incredible story of devotion and love, this book will charm you right from the endearing picture on the cover! I found this to be a quick and easy read, over all too soon, but a book that reminds us of the resilience of the human (and doggie) spirit and the compassion we can find in total strangers in any part of the world. A great summer read!!

To all animal lovers, you will understand the connection between Dion and Gobi. To all others, it is a touching story about what a person is willing to do for our 4 legged family members. It shows human nature at its finest. An incredible story.

What an amazing story! Learning about ultra marathons was enlightening and I gained an admiration for those few who attempt these endurance tests. But the heart of the story was the relationship of Gobi and Dion. It was so touching. It was also good to read of the kindness and caring of so many people. I found the book hard to put down.

Beautiful story both about the amazing Gobi the dog, and how Dion changed from a joyless winning focus into opening his heart and healing his past. There was also a heartwarming look at the people of China who helped him, and everyone else throughout the world who supported him in the 6 months it took to get Gobi from China to Scotland.

Heartwarming story. Not only does it show the bonds of a dog and a human but it also shows a personal face to human beings across the world. Once we come face to face with others different from us it can change our view of them, ourselves and the world. Loved this story and this book!

Having followed the story online and getting "pupdates" from being a supporter, I was very impressed with the quality of writing, the detail that made me feel as though I was there in the desert running with Dion and Gobi, and the suspense created by the ups and downs of getting Gobi home. An excellent story -- I had a hard time putting it down. It's about so much more than a cute little dog finding her forever home. Highly recommend to anyone!

Not literature but a wonderful story of a dog and a man with huge hearts and commitment to one another. Animal lovers will find this non-fiction book to be a worthwhile,fun, interesting and tension-filled read. The movie planned will capture hearts of all. Both dion and gobi and all those who helped in China or donated to make the happy ending happen, are hero’s.

a charming story, one worth reading. The companionship of the small boy who rescued the little badly treated dog was a friendship that stayed with the boy although they go their own way when the dog returned to the wild., the dog was able to reply that kindness later at a time when the lad most needed it we can learn much from the lessons learnt in this book.

Coming from an international Chinese family of dog lovers, I have been captivated by Gobi and Dion's news story from the very beginning. Now, after reading Finding Gobi, I can wholeheartedly say that this is indeed an emotional and inspirational story of determination, perseverance, courage, loyalty, commitment, and the remarkable, enduring bonds of love. Dion's personal back story adds complexity and depth to this fantastic, fate-filled tale. A "pawsitively" must read!

This is a wonderful, amazing, and extremely well-written story that you will not want to put down. For dog lovers and non-dog-lovers alike, although at the end you will definitely be a Gobi-lover!! I hope this gets made into a movie, it would be great!!

I finished the audio book today. ♥ If you need a feel-good read to counter-balance some of the ugliness in the world these days, this is the book to pick up. If you love running, dogs, running with dogs, caring for other beings, international landscapes, and a little bit of drama and intrigue, you will not be disappointed. Much respect to Dion and Lucia for keeping Gobi's best interests at the forefront from the very beginning. I've loved this story since the very first social media post in the summer of 2017, but the book filled in many gaps and answered many questions.

I am reading this heartwarming tale for the second time. For anybody who has become disillusioned, demotivated or simply mystified by the people around them - this story will soothe your soul like no other. As the reader, one can almost sense Dion's ambivalence when he first encounters Gobi - the adorable canine heroine of this story . He is an accomplished and focussed athlete who has no initial intention of taking on board a fellow "runner" but Gobi only has eyes for Dion. It would spoil the readers enjoyment to reveal more but somehow Gobi gets a beautiful mother and sister as an added bonus and continues to calptivate her burgeoning folowing!!! This enchanting book will satisfy everyone who needs convincing that dogs are, indeed , mans best friend.

A true feel good saga of devotion, perseverance, sacrifice, and the capacity of one creature to connect with another, regardless of differences...I loved this book and hope that Dion and Gobi have many, many years of peaceful coexistence to share with each other and the rest of the family.

Not to be missed! Angels looked after everyone involved in finding Gobi - a little dog with a very big heart. How Gobi has brought healing of a man's spirit helping him to realize that he can succeed and failure is not his destiny as some have had him believe. I absolutely loved it and I highly recommend this wonderful read!

What a great look into the world of ultrarunning and the little-known area of China where the book takes place, Xianjang. You'll find yourself rooting for Dion and Gobi as they face obstacles in his quest to bring her back to Scotland from the Gobi desert. Perfect for anyone who has fallen in love with a dog.

The story of Gobi leaves many more questions than answers. Where did she come from; what was her background? Where did she go to? The dog stole my heart, and the descriptions of her meeting with Dion were so well depicted. Not over done, not over sentimental - there she was - and there she stayed. What a heroine!

Truly a wonderful book from beginning to end. Well written and edited. The authored wrote about his difficult young life, and about his experiences in long distance running. The story of Dion and Gobi's relationship was amazing. I think both Dion and Gobi saved each other. I did read other reviews before buying and reading this to know if it had a happy ending.

Magical ! From the first sentence to the last this true inspiring experience of Dion and Gobi's bond had my full attention ( except when I had to feed my dogs and let them out for their after meal doings). There is a moment when that unspoken communication between human and canine occurs. There is nothing like it. Thanks for a positive, hopeful message Dion.

I choose this rating because, first of all, I love dogs, especially rescued dogs, and I Iove a good dog story. This is a very good story. I like a book that takes me through a wide range of emotions. Finding Gobi does that. You feel what the writer feels and along with him hope for a good outcome. He doesn't bore you with unnecessary details yet gives you all you need to know. The story left me loving Gobi as one of own rescued dogs.

This is truly an amazing and inspirational book! Read it and you will never be the same again. Dion Leonard is an excellent writer and a man that learned how to overcome insurmountable difficulties from his past. His dedication and love for Gobi shines through on every page. Gobi spoke wisdom without saying a word. Thank you for allowing us to share the journey!

Love this story about a wonderful dog and his interesting adopted father. I liked best when the story covered the dog and man together. I liked least when it went into too much detail (for me) about the running preparations and trials.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has, or has ever had, a pet that changed their life. It is both heart warming and heartbreaking. It demonstrates how the bonds between people and animals can alter how they live their lives.

Very heartwarming story. Amazing how a dog comes from out of nowhere and attaches on to a person. Real tribute to how resilient and smart dogs really are. Also proves how strong a bond is between a person and their pet.

A moving book, about a runner who encounters a stray dog in China and who goes through a great deal to bring the dog home to Scotland. It is heart-warming, especially in regards to the number of people who helped him.

I love this book! Even though I followed the story the second I heard about it, I still enjoyed reading this book. I didn't realize all the people that were involved in helping to find Gobi and get her home. It was also very nice to read all the emotions and thoughts that went through Dion's mind while all these events were taking place. If you're an animal lover or love a good book that leaves you with good feelings and happy tears, then this book is for you. I read it in about 3 days and that is extremely quick for me. I couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed this remarkable story of one man's journey to freedom, not just for Gobi, but for himself as well!
The story is well told and so impossible that I sometimes wondered if I was reading fiction.
A dog-lover's must read!

This story is really quite amazing. This cute little dog decided that Dion was her person and even though he didn’t know it at first, she knew it. It was heartwarming how many people donated money to help bring Gobi to Scotland and how many complete strangers helped to find Gobi when she went missing. It’s so awesome that all of Gobi’s fans can follow her on Instagram. I can’t wait for the movie!

This is a great story about dog choosing owner rather than the other way around. Especially touching to me since dogs have come into my life when I wasn't looking for a dog. The author is a true hero!!!

I love the story of this man and the relationship he developed with a little random dog that literally ran into his life. Quick read enjoyable and anyone who is an animal lover will enjoy reading this book I'll be happy to pass on to family members now that I'm done.

Cute story of determination (On Dion's part and Gobi's!) to stay together! I liked the insight into Ultra Marathon running and it just amazes me how Gobi found the race and stuck with Dion. She truly adopted him!

Good reading for all ages - I'm loaning this to my nine year old granddaughter next!

After seeing the short video on social media about Dion and Gobi, I had to read this book! So well written that even knowing the outcome didn’t change the suspense. As an amateur runner myself and a devoted dog mom, this book had everything. Dion’s painful childhood remembrances and how a little dog helped him heal, the loving support of his wife and the kindness of total strangers was healing to me. What a wonderful read!

OK, I read Dogs Purpose,that was good,but this book was GREAT!!! What a wonderful story of love,life and a dog's unwavering caring and loyalty. I did not want this book to end:,feeling bad picking if up,knowing that when I did my happiness would stop!
