What a fantastic book.
We are introduced to 16 year old Amel that has just begun Dragon school. No big deal you say?? Anel has always dreamt of flying and becoming a dragon rider and won't let anything get in her way, not even her crippled leg. She has a heart of gold and wants to live life on her terms.
I honestly can say that I loved Amels tenasity. She has been belittled and made fun of and yet she was the most determined and compassionate young lady never letting anyone tell her what she can and can't do. Even in her moments of doubt her thoughts were on those around her and how they would be affected.
It's truly only fitting that she would end up with Raoclan! Who's is Raoclan? You must read and find out.
I love love love dragons so I knew this would be something I would enjoy. I love the unique take on the Dragon colors and what they mean. Though at the same time it saddens me. We are introduced to characters around her that have you guessing and wondering at What they will become to Amel and their motivations.
This was a short but full book. So much happening and going on that there wasn't any lag in the storyline and boy did it end in a bang. Mah heart was in my throat. Cannot wait to continue and see what adventures are in store for young Amel.
I recieved this book and chose to review it!

Join Dragon School...
Learn to fly...
Can Amel survive First Flight?
Or will she fall to her death?
Or choose to be a servant instead of death and dragons?

I feel sorry for the heroine, not because of her disability, but because of the hateful words people say about her because of her disability. I cannot wait for her to prove these people wrong. I love reading main characters that have disabilities because it shows how people in the real world suffer not only from their disability but from people who insult them. This book brought that into light and I loved how the heroine proved them wrong.

This book was an amazing start for this series. Loved meeting the main character and her dragon, loved getting to know the school and reading about the flights - loved the explanations/descriptions of it. Made it surreal.

I am officially hooked on this book, especially after that ending. Looking forward to the next book.

Full of dragons, dragon riders, decisions, uncertainty, magic, choices or lack thereof, courage, trust and bravery.

Perfect for readers of fantasy reads.

This book surprised me at how good it was.

First of all, I would like to say finally a female lead that is not perfect!

I was sick of all the female character I read to be these beautiful creatures with all the powers and be awesome at everything. So when I got introduced to Amel( character lead) I was pumped because she had a big disadvantage going into dragon school one of her legs wasn't working and riding a dragon you need both! Because of that, I was so intrigued how the story would go! Like obviously the dragons were awesome because each color had their own meaning and the whole situation was hectic... I am writing this review after reading the four books so more coming this way. I don't want to say too much because ruining the book is no fun...

Imagined this series like watching a fantasy series and each book is an episode... My imagination runs wild and the adventures of Amel was epic, her determination to be a dragon rider made my day...

So if you like fantasy reads get the book!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, and in all honesty, I thought it was great. Amel, the 16 year old main character, is from a poor family. Her leg was badly damaged when she was a young girl and she must use a crutch to walk. Damaged as she is, she would have a difficult time finding a husband or a job. She has come to the dragon school because she wants to ride a dragon and if she is at the school, she will not be a burden to her family. The Dragon School cannot refuse anyone. Amel is determined to succeed.

Her determination is put to the test. The school is situated in a cliff side, so it is very difficult for Amel to make her way around, and so, she is always late for everything. Most of her classmates are well above her in the social pecking order and that, with her disability, make her the object of almost everyone's scorn. She struggles with the many steps in the school and the many jeers from her classmates until at last it is time to for the students to choose a dragon. Amel knows she will choose last and when her turn finally comes she walks down the passageway alongside the dragon's stalls and she hears Raolcan, who will be her dragon, calling to her.

This story was over all too soon. I can hardly wait to see where her boundless courage takes her next.

The first book in the series focuses on the main character Amel who was injured as a child and will forever be crippled with a bad hip and leg. She dreams of becoming a dragon rider and is intent on doing anything to accomplish that dream. The story goes on to describe Amel's trials and tribulations as she works to become a dragon rider. Amel is tormented by many of the other students who don't believe she should be there, at the same time she fights the self doubt that arises and tells her that the others may be right. The book is written in such a way that the reader can feel all the emotions Amel experiences as she traverses her way to the title of dragon rider. I felt the pace of the story was pretty even but the tension of the story ratchets way up in the final scenes of the story as Amel makes a desperate move to achieve her goal. This is a well done young adult story perfect for people who love dragons and stories about inspiring characters. I received an ARC of this book from the author and all opinions are my own.

What I love most about Dragon School is the fact that the main character has a disibility. It just added more uniqueness to the story as you don’t often see characters struggling with injuries that happened when they were younger. The world building is great. I’ve always loved the idea of having a dragon and learning to ride one. The characters are realistic and it’s easy enough to put yourself in their shoes. Looking forward to what comes next :)

Dragon School: First Flight is the first book in the Dragon School Series.

I absolutely devoured this book, reading it in one setting, I just couldn’t put it down, wanting to find out what would happen next.

I love the female lead, Alem Leafbrough, who has a disability, she was injured as a child and now needs a crutch to get around ... far from normal perfect lead. She might walk with a limp, and be a bit unsure of herself at times, but she pushes on courageously. I like how she handles all the teasing and verbal bullying, with grace.

And you just got to love a snarky dragon with some great comments. Her purple dragon (can’t go wrong with a dragon with purple scales) is Raolcan. Think it’ll be fun to watch this duo as they grow together.

The storyline is interesting and different with strong writing and a great ‘world’. I can’t wait until the next book. I received this book free on Library Thing and know I found another author to add to my favorite list!

Over-priced chapters of a plot line that is so thin you dare not scratch at the surface. The characters (all of them) react in way detached from reality - I finally had to put these down when the proven enemy shows up yet again, and the group including the main character does nothing to warn their allies in "book" seven.

The potential is there for a decent story if the writer would develop the characters. Each installment feels more rushed than the last.

Would not recommend to a friend.

Even disabilities can't stop the determined heart. I should know, I have plenty of them. So does the heroin of this series. The story is very insightful of what a person feels and thinks who is weighed down by physical disabilities. We see her fight through bullying, being picked on, picked last for teams, or not picked at all. We go through the struggle of being left behind and having to work twice if not three times as hard for the things that others can do without even thinking about it. But then we also see her conquer her fear, stand up to bullying, ignore rude remarks, keep pushing herself to the point of exhaustion, and think of ways to do the job smarter instead of harder. We will see her succeed. We will wish for her to succeed. We will cheer her on as we read. We will want to kick the bullies butts for her. We will bite our finger nails when she gets in a tight spot. We will not want to put the book down till the very last page.

I received an Advanced Reader copy of her book in return for an honest review.

The book is set at Dragon School, a place within dangerous mountains and cliffs. The main character comes from a small village near a forest. She is unable to work hard because of an accident that happened when she was young. She feels useless and a burden.

The story begins with Amel Leafbrought and the rest of the newest applicants huddling near a cliff waiting to choose their dragons. Amel is telling the reader all the reasons why she wants to become a Dragon Rider, color defines purpose in life and doesn’t want to keep being a burden to her family.

Amel Leafbrought wants to become a Dragon Rider and find her purpose in life. Her leg was crippled when she was very young, so the other candidates in her wave refuse to become attached to her because she is likely to die before or during her First Ride. She hears a voice in her head that claimed to be a dragon who chooses her, not the other way around.

Right at the beginning, I felt Amel was talking to me explaining why she wants to join the Dominion Sky People. That intimacy connected me as she wavered between becoming a servant or a Dragon Rider. She told me how she struggled to get from place to place within the school and her doubts about enslaving her dragon so that she could become a Rider.

The beginning of the book grips you immediately. I couldn't put it down. You are charmed by Amel and her strength despite her physical challenges. She is determined, fierce, and full of courage. The first chapter begins with one of the most important tasks of becoming a dragon rider…choosing a dragon. Despite the contempt of her peers, she moves forward and is the only rider to be chosen. Although this story is short, you feel the struggles and battle depression right along with Amel as she presses forward. As readers, we also get to be a part of her confusion with her fellow riders as well as some additional characters (I don’t want to give too much away). This is something I really hope develops more during the series. The writing is fluid making this a very smooth and fast read. I warn you, it ends abruptly and you will be clamoring to reach for the next one quickly! I look forward to being a part of this journey.

Dragon School: First Flight by Sarah K.L. Wilson is the exciting first novella in the Dragon School series. It follows Amel Leafbrought from her arrival at Dragon School to the night her first flight on her dragon Raolcan.
I read this novella in one sitting. It was inspiring to read about Amel, a volunteer to become a dragon rider, because she faces adversity because she has a crippled leg and hip. Because of that, her classmates don't like her, and she also has trouble getting around the school, since it is built into soaring cliffs and connected with ladders. However, she doesn't give up.
I recommend this series if you like dragons, other worlds, and stubborn, determined heroines. There is some mild violence, but in my opinion it's suitable for tweens and young teens.

I requested a copy of this book with the intention of giving an honest review, which I have done.

I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Amel wants to be a dragon rider. She has always wanted to be a dragon rider. And now she has a chance to fulfill her dream. There’s only one problem. Amel has a seriously damaged leg, walks with a crutch and is given no quarter in a grueling course to become a dragon rider. It is a difficult and relentless course endeavor for the physically strong and Amel must measure up or give up. The initiates choose their dragon, must learn to control it and take care of it. But before they can become true dragon riders, they must take their first ride. A frightening and dangerous accomplishment.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more. The characters are well developed and Amel’s dragon comes alive under Ms.Wilson’s pen. An exciting and fun book. Do you love dragons?

I don't normally read novellas since they are typically too short, and once I like something I don't want it to end. In this case I was in between books and had the opportunity to review an ARC, so I figured why not. I was pleasantly surprised!

Even though it was a quick read I never felt that things were rushed or too thin on the details. The author was able to build a world, introduce multiple characters, and create an interesting plot in a way that made it feel longer than it was. I love the strength and determination of the main character, and her ability to adapt on her own to work around her disability. I was also intrigued by some of the other players, so I'm looking forward to the next installment to learn more about them.

This is the first book from this author that I've read, and after reading this I'm definitely interested in checking out more of her writing.

This was so much better than I was expecting! Amel is a disabled teen with high ambitions of being a dragon rider, but of course, there are obstacles in her way, such as social class and mobility issues. As you suspect, the other trainees aren't very nice to her. But hey! Who needs nice trainees when you get to choose the dragon you're going to bond with… or in Amel's case... her dragon chose her. Meet Raolcan, a purple and sleek dragon who has bonded with Amel before their first flight.

What I loved about this story is the number of issues it touched on. I think it is well covered and conveyed while being entertaining. Amel is adorable and I love Raolcan. He has such a calming presence to him. The interactions between the two are great. It does end in a bit of a cliff-hanger, but not an "edge of your seat" cliff-hanger. I look forward to the next installment!

Book #1, young rider trainees and young wild dragons who will bond together by magic. Once you are accepted to the Dragon School you can never leave. You will be a dragon rider or voluntarily become a school servant. This story revolves around Amel, a crippled girl who desperately wants to be a dragon rider and Raolcan, a young wild dragon. They must learn to trust each other and learn together. Amel has many hurdles, she has a crippled leg and is a peasant girl. There are many who do not want her to succeed. I love the storyline and the development of the characters. And I love dragons. The story moves at a good pace and I found it very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book! I am now anxiously awaiting the second book which will be out soon. I received this book free and I am voluntarily giving a true and honest review.

Last week I was introduced to the Dragon School short novel series by Sarah K. L. Wilson. I read the first six books in two days! These short novels are about 150 pages long and have a complete plot arch. They also manage to end on a cliffhanger at the same time.

The first book follows the adventure of Amel, a crippled girl who decides to leave her family and become a dragon rider. She feels like a burden to her large family since she cannot help out with the farm chores, and no one will marry her. The Dragon School must accept anyone who wants to join as a dragon rider or as a servant.

When it comes time to choose her dragon, the dragon chooses her instead. Raolcan, the purple dragon, is the highlight of each book. A sassy dragon, who underneath all of his scales, truly cares for Amel.

Someone recommended this to me in a FB group, and I am so glad I took her suggestion. This was such an engaging story that I binge read the entire 6-story series and can't wait until episode 7 is released on March 30th.

Amel is a very sympathetic main character, someone you root for, who is disadvantaged and who faces very realistic struggles head-on.
Kudos to Sarah Wilson for writing such a complex character - an everywoman, with a physical disability who still manages to overcome. Her characters have heart and must wrestle to overcome obstacles any young adult can identify with.

Know that you are entering into an episodic series -- and enjoy the ride! I'm here for the long haul and look forward to every new release.

It was an impressive story that really touched my heart. From the beginning, feeling as others judge you is difficult, even more so if your disability is very visible to others, but in this story you will find that those who have suffered the most are those who have a big heart, and sometimes a little courage is what It is needed to fulfill your dreams. I recommend this reading to EVERYONE, because sometimes the indifference to the deceit of others makes us without realizing the villain of the history and here you learn what it is to live through the eyes of someone with a disability, which will never mean she is someone inferior but someone who needed a helping hand. I received this as an ARC and i really can'twait for more.

Amel wants to be a Dragon Rider, even though she’s a cripple. Sadly, people discriminate against her because her one leg isn’t working properly. So, she just has to work extra extra hard to prove herself. Dragon School is not equipped for cripples, what with all the ladders and rocky cliffs. You can’t help but admire her courage and love her for who she is. As a reader you just feel for her - not pity, but empathy. Amel reminds me a bit of Lilith from The Council by Kayla Krantz: crippled thus handicapped, but very determined and strong-willed - a fighter. I really, really liked it. I started on book #2 immediately after finishing book #1!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.

Dragon School: First Flight is a fantasy novel by Sarah K. L. Wilson about a young sixteen year old crippled girl, Amel, who joins Dragon School in hopes of riding a dragon and becoming a Dominion Dragon Rider.  She and the other students must succeed at their training in order to become initiates which is the first part of their jouney to become Dragon Riders.  Ulitmately, they must be successful at their first flight.  First Flight is the inital book in the Dragon School series.

Having a love for fantasy as well as ones which include dragons and adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short story (about 105 pages)and can't wait to read the next one and see what happens next. I was impressed with the author's ability to enage the reader in a fast paced story which did not fail to keep me engaged in the plot and the characters.

A charming YA story about a peasant girl who enters the Dragon School, hoping to become a dragon rider. This one pays an unofficial tribute to Anne McCaffery's dragon rider stories with dragons coming in various colours - each of which connects to a particular calling including diplomacy, healing and messengers. I found this book, which is the first in a series, well written and delightful to read with a heroine who is likable and fiercely determined, perhaps partly because of her disability and there are several among her cast of teachers and class of dragonrider hopefuls that show promise as future friends and antagonists - if they survive.
I enjoyed this one and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Okay, real talk: this is one of the best books I've read in a while. Yes, there are a few typos throughout, don't get me wrong. But really there aren't a ton, and besides that, the book itself is compelling. I couldn't put it down--finished it in a few hours and barely had enough self control to pause and write this before starting the next one.

You really get to know the characters, the world is evolving before you, and you can't help but care about what happens to them. The protagonist is likable but not perfect, and the other characters are realistic, too--not just stereotypes. Also, dragons. They're great.

(I got this book for free as an ARC in exchange for my honest review... but it really was great.)

This is one of my favorite series. It is short, but a new one comes out every 18 days so it isn't that big a deal. I love the characters and the growth of the main character Amel. Each chapter adds on to her through out coming to dragon school and having to try so hard with her disability. Amel joins with her purple dragon, a dragon that picks the rider, not the other way around. The two develop a great relationship and Amel meets Leng, another purple dragon rider that acts as though he doesn't see her disability. The writing is great and I can say I have read the books numerous times. If you would like to see my complete review check it out at underthebookmark. com

This is one of the most fast paced easy reads that I've read in a while. I love how this is almost straight to the point kind of book. Not a whole lot of fluff nonsense that drags the story on.

Honestly this is the perfect weekend read or even when you want to sit down and read a book from start to finish in one day. I really have no complaints about this book.

The world building is on point, characters are memorable and have room to grow. It has all the things you look for in a series.

I take that back. The cover doesn't match the story, other than the fact that there is a dragon on the cover. That is a little misleading. But not a deal breaker.

This is an ARC review.

I am above all things, an avid lover of all things dragon. This story grabs hold in the first chapter and doesn't let go throughout the entire book. Amel Leafbrought was born a peasant and through no fault of her own, she has a crippled leg. It's hard to trust or make friends when words are often snide to her. She has decided not to be a burden to her family and volunteer to become a dragon rider. Many die in the attempt, but Amel is chosen by a coveted purple dragon named Raolcan. This is a short read well worth the time. The story flows and the characters are well balanced in their personalities. I can't wait to start the next book in the series.

Dragon School: First Flight

Amel Leafbroiught has dreamed of being a dragon rider despite any odds stacked against her. Unlike other recruits she has to overcome the stigma of a physical injury that left her leg weakened and reliant on crutches.

This protagonist however won't stand for that impeding her dream or the dragon that is chosen. She's determined to take her first flight.

I read this in one sitting. The characters are well written, diverse and fun to follow along in their interactions.

Though this is the first installment you can see how the plot sets it up for adventure and intrigue.

I have read other works by Sarah K. L. Wilson and find her series only get better!

I received an advance copy from the author.

For an extremely short book as well as the start of a new series, Sarah K. L. Wilson did extremely well. I was disoriented at first (as I always am when entering a new world) but this only lasted in the first chapter, allowing me to fully enjoy and immerse myself in the story. The plot was also interesting and original, which in turn prevented me from growing bored (because lets be honest, there are so many ideas that have been so overdone they become monotonous and typical). I can easily say that I am looking forward to reading the next instalment in this new series. The only criticisms I have are that a) I'm not in love with any of the characters yet, but of course it's only been 100 pages, and b) I wish it were longer!

I really enjoyed the pace of it, the protagonist, and the other cast of characters. It's a really quick read that grabs you from start to finish.

There are two things that stopped this from being a five star read: I didn't enjoy that the school despite the attention made to it not mattering who you were before with all being equal as a dragon rider, this was not done with the dragon selection. I understand that it shows the other factors at play, but it would have been great if Amel wasn't the last to pick her dragon. Another quibble is about the dragons, if her chosen one was so special why how did he make it to last pick?

*I'm a lucky fish who got given an ARC of the book*

Outstanding read. Think Harry Potter does Dragon School minus the magic. Yeah, it's that good. A very quick read that you can't wait to get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and, you get the picture. Absolutely the best thing I've read by Sarah Wilson and she a darn good author! It's no wonder this is priced at $.99 it's going to suck you in and make you buy the rest of the series!

I'll read anything Sarah puts out. Once again, her talent for world-building, detail, and great action is on display. The MC is easy to connect with. The story is clear, powerful, and doesn't waste a moment of your time. I think this book is maybe geared a little younger than her other books, though it does have a few heart-rending "darker" moments for sure. Sarah's books are usually longer and, like this, rarely have a single scene that isn't serving multiple purposes, so I was interested to see how she would work with the novella format, but she did a brilliant job. I highly suggest picking this up and I can't wait to see what else is in store in these books.

This is a good series. The short books are annoying, each book is only 80-100 pages. There isn’t a recap to the stories so where one ends the next picks up as if you just turned the page. I would think students who have to read so many books and not so many pages will love this format. For me, as an older person, it was just irritating to have to keep finding the next book in line and downloading it.

The series isn’t done either. I just finished book 12 and there is more to come. Good news with as short as the books are it shouldn’t take too long to get the next one.

A well written book with interesting characters. Apart from the usual things to be mentioned about a good book that have already been mentioned by previous reviewers, I'd like to add the naming of the characters such as Amel Leafbrought and so on. I also liked the idea of the dragon choosing Amel. Her handicap helps her develop a strong character and find ways to rise above her numerous difficulties. This story promises to develop into a very interesting series. I had an ARCopy to read but this has not influenced my very positive opinion of the writer and her talent, Keep up the good work Sarah! If you like dragon stories don't miss this one.

Was unable to put this book down, read the entire story in one sitting and loved it from start to finish.

Entering Dragon School leads to one of two options; either you become a dragon rider or you become a servant of the Dragon School. Once you enter the choice is yours, one thing is certain tho, you will not leave. Class does not matter, the lowest serf has as much chance of becoming a dragon rider as the highest noble.

Amel has been crippled since childhood and rather than be a burden on her family chooses to enter Dragon School. Picking one of the rare purple dragons (or being picked by one) changes her life forever.

I'm sure this is YA fiction because the girl is young, but believe me, this grandma was riveted to her seat, not even aware of turning pages. There is a great heroine, worthy of admiration. She is brave in spite of being terrified, she struggles to be better than she is, and there is a touch of bitterness so she isn't too good to be likeable. She is always moving forward in spite of being weighed down by a bad leg and the opinions of others. The story is gripping, and there is a surprise or two in it; this is not a cozy fairytale. Bad things happen. If you love dragons and dragonriders, then this is definitely for you.

I loved this book! I couldn’t put it down but once started Amal has decided that she is going to become a dragon rider despite being permanently injured as a child. Once she gets to dragon school everyone doesn’t think she can do it and they are mean and rude to her be she perseveres and showes everyone that just because you have a disability does not mean you are handicapped! I can not wait for the next book to see what’s going to happen next will Amel and her dragon be able to keep the truce/friendship they have with the challenges to come? Will she be able to keep up with the demands that come with being a dragon rider? I can’t wait for the second book I hope I can’t put it down like I couldn’t with the first,

Dragon School: First Flight is a coming-of-age fantasy novella by Sarah K. L. Wilson. The main character is a handicapped sixteen-year-old girl named Amel. She has always loved dragons and dreamed of learning to fly. Her need for a crutch has put her at a severe disadvantage on the rocky mountain cliff where the dragon school is located. The other students don't even bother making friends with her, because they have already figured that she will probably die during the perilous training. The author brings this story to life with vivid descriptions, strong characters, and dangerous adventure.

I really enjoyed this book. It was so interesting. After all, it is a book about dragons. What’s not to like? Amel, the main character has spent her life being considered a worthless cripple. She wants to become a dragon rider so she can be independent and not be forced to rely on the charity of her family. This story was very well written and kept my attention until the very last word. I cannot wait for the next one to come out so that I can continue this story. I finished this story and reviewed it on 12/16/2017, but forgot to post earlier.

The name of the book was intriguing all by itself. Then I started reading it! Different world, and different type of fantasy. The main character is a young girl who has a physical disability - so what...that's what makes us stronger. We don't whine and pity ourselves, neither does she. She gets into a school that will transform her into part of a team, with a purple dragon as the other part of the team. Her most important obstacle is to jump of a cliff and land on the back of her dragon! Not giving away anything that will be a spoiler.

Amel is born to a poor family who while her grandfather was carrying her as a young girl tripped and dropped her and fell on her and crushed her leg and hip. She decided to apply to Dragon school because she knew it would help her parents not have to feed her. She starts the school and is hated by all the other students but when she went to pick her Dragon one of the Dragons spoke to her mind and told her to pick him. This story is about her trials learning what she has to know before taking her first flight on the Dragon. This is a good storyline and shows what you can do even if handicapped.

This story was not only entertaining but easy flowing. Has everything a decent series should, wanting you to follow it. I must certainly will. Among other things I love how Amels character is written after being put down and soft of bullied she still considered herself worthy, strong and determined .Amel has compassion for all living things. This story teaches how humans can be cold and not kind to those with imperfections.Words still hurt as do looks. Those with disabilities are doing so much more in our world today. If not fly a dragon hey fly plane. This hits home for me so Thank you Ms.Wilson.

I was a little hesitant to read this since it is 100 pages, and I wondered if I could be immersed in the story. So I took a chance on Kindle Unlimited because I could always return it. Boy, was I glad I did. The story is fascinating and I was completely taken by concept and execution of the story itself. I think the dragon rider with a disability was handled quite well and I'm glad there are more books with different kinds of protagonists being written.

Although, I became so frustrated with Amel, the main character. She was too nice. I'm sorry, but if someone calls me a cripple (and I'm super passive), I am not going to try to help them out or be their friend. Sorry, but no. I just wished she stood up for herself a bit more to drive home the point that she is a thinking and feeling human being. So, I hope this becomes part of her story arch. I get she's a teenager with self-esteem issues, so I have to remind myself of that. But that doesn't take away from the story at all.

Five Stars. I'll definitely read the next book!

This Story is so amazing! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I love how much the main character Amel, doesn't give up despite all the odds against her. She's a strong girl and I absolutely admire her strength and will. I've never read a story like this before. I'm so hooked I can't wait for the next book! Her dragon is so mysterious and cool. I highly recommend this as a must read!

good story has characters changing suddenly from nice & friendly to rude & mean yet weirdly helpful. pace is giong along well then it rushes right to the big event every one is working toward (should have delayed a bit to gain momentum & suspense)& then the event is over before you even have a chance to get into it.
I'm still very interested but these are Novellas & each of the next 9 books is $3 each !!!!! I'm gonna have to do it the slow way & borrow one a month, which really is annoying.

This book was absolutely amazing!!
This book is the perfect mixture of Harry Potter and Divergent. Initiates must choose a dragon and thereby choose a branch of the dragon riders.
I'm not gonna lie i got extra excited when Amel choose a purple dragon! I'm a gamer and immediately though of spryo! It made me love Raolcan immediately! ? I really like Amel character too. Amel dream to ride a dragon and become a dragon rider. However she having a cripped leg is am issue she must overcome. Dispite everyone around her Amel is determined to accomplish her dream no matter what.

What a beautiful & fantastic start to a series! Not only are you going to be reading about Dragon's....the interesting twist is 16 year old Amel has a physical disability, her dragon Raolcan has a dashing personality, the typical bullying you expect when a handicap person who wants to achieve something amazing!
Sarah has put together a beautiful world in this starter novella! I couldn't believe how well put together this story was and am looking forward to book 2!

An amazing first novella in a new series that did not disappoint. Sarah K L Wilson has written a young adult fantasy story that is different from the usual dragon stories. With a good plot, interesting storyline, good writing style, excellent descriptions - it is fast paced with engaging and memorable characters - both human and dragon. The heroine, Amel is very strong and determined to succeed against all odds while Raolcan is one unpredictable dragon. My only grouse - it was too short!
I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this book.

Loved it. Amel is a fabulous character, loyal and determined. The issues she faced were clear enough to the reader to engage sympathy (and annoyance on her behalf) whilst she faced her detractors with courage and dignity. Raolcan is entirely glorious and the dialogue between the two in particular sparkled. The story is well plotted with twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes and there's clearly high drama going on in the background, which will no doubt unfold in the next few books.
Enjoyed it so much I went straight on to the next.

I really enjoyed this story. It had me from the very start. Amel was crippled and had very limited options for the future. She decided to try to be a dragon rider. It seems that everyone was given the same opportunities at dragon school, regardless of your station in life. If she could just conquer the physical barriers, then she was all set for a new life. The purple dragon chose her to be be his partner, instead of her doing the choosing. Either way, they had a meeting of the minds. I enjoyed this story so much that I immediately bought the next one in the series.

Amel is a peasant girl who was crippled during a freak accident. She has always dreamed of being a dragon rider. Amel refuses to let her crippled leg keep her from her dreams. When Amel gets to Dragon school she is shunned because of her handicap. Raolcan sees something special in her though.
This is a great book for all ages. It's rather short, it has several books to this ongoing story. It shows that having a handicap shouldn't hold you back.

Book pulled me in and I could not stop reading it UNTIL book 7. I wasn't real happy with each book being a short story ..but not a complete one. Book just stopped and then carried on with the next one. Maybe 12 chapters each. So here I am book 7 does not come out till the end of March 2018 and it is nowhere near the end of the book. Could be 15 more books for all i know. Who knows when they will all come out. At least they are kindle unlike so i don't have to pay for each one.

Riveting page turner. Wonderful characters. Entertaining. Scary. Original. Realistic. Easy to read. Tragic.

Amel Leafbrought makes a delightful, novice student at Dragon School: conflicted emotionally, an outcast due to being crippled. The other students treat her poorly. She has more to overcome than most. Raolcan is her chosen dragon. Will Amel and Raolcan overcome the odds?

I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.

Although this started out a little slow for my liking I ended up not being able to put it down in the end! I read it in one evening (as it has only around 100 pages).
I truly enjoyed the main character(Amel) being a teen girl with a “disability” that had to give it her all in order to do things that come easily or “natural” to the others. I’m truly glad that I was able to continue right on to Episode 2 with no delay!

I received an ARC Copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was provided to me free of charge. I am voluntarily reviewing it.

Dragon School: First Ride is quick and easy read at just over 100 pages. Despite the brevity, the author does a good job of creating a complex and well fleshed out main character in Amel. She is determined and brave, refusing to give up on her dream despite the negativity that is aimed her way. I would recommend this book to any fantasy reader who enjoys a heroine that doesn't shy away from difficulty.

This book is so good I'm really loving the plot and characters. Amel and her Purple Dragon Raolcan I just love them. I don't know what to think about Savette yet ,with her Crimson Dragon Eeamdor, such a contradiction. Leng, and his Purple Dragon Ahlskibi, is being really nice to Amel, I'm wondering if he is going to be Amel's love interest. Grandis, servents, Dragon Riders, the Colors, the Initiates. Then all the tests. I love all the different sectors decribed. I really can't wait for part 2

Dragon School is a story about dreams and perserverance. Amel dreams of becoming a dragon rider. To do this, one must be strong, both mentally and physically, which is a problem for Amel. This book is about learning to accept yourself and your limitations and finding out how to succeed with them. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and rooting for Amel to prosper when so many others are convinced she will fail. I recieved an ARC of this book for a fair review.

Good enough that I can over look how short it is. The 'pity me' felt a tad over done but I figured the author was trying to ensure the readers really understood what a bitch it is being cripple and moving around. So I overlooked that flaw in my rating. Otherwise I'm thoroughly hooked. I liked the characters, story, and editing. I especially enjoyed the unique bond between dragon and rider right from the moment they met.

Although full of low level action that happens when a bunch of young people are thrown together, a handicapped young girl tries to make something of herself when all the normal circumstances around her make it almost impossible to succeed . She finds a friend in an unlikely place that gives her the courage to continue. A fun easy read with some suttle undertones. I am on to the next in the series.

If it hadn't been in KU, I would never had read this short story/novella/episode. 1st I don't really like episodes until they are completed as they usually end abruptly and then you have to wait, but since there where several episodes available when I read this one and I was desperate for something to read I thought I would give it a chance. Though the premise was very good and what little world building was done seemed very promising there was just too many holes and illogical events that I just couldn't read any more. Honestly there was absolutely no reason for the initiates to be put into the dangerous situations that they were put in or if the author had a reason it wasn't explained well. If the bonding ceremony would have happened immediately at choosing, then when the initiates cared for their dragons they would not have been in so much danger, there was some vague reason for the delay in the bonding ceremony such as giving the future riders a chance to back out, but then experienced people should have taken care of the dragons until the bonding happened. If they needed dragon rider's pairs then they could have come up with something a whole lot safer.

The other issue I had was the riders had to jump off of a cliff to mount their dragons, really? seriously? especially when it is even mentioned that once they become experienced riders they can mount from the caves! Huh? that seems backwards ... and then there was the fast pace that forced the initiates to try and ride their dragons the first time, at night, in the rain and without being trained? there was again absolutely no reason for that or a reason that didn't come through in the story. The premise was excellent the execution seriously lacking, I suspect if the author would have just written a full length novel and plotted out the whole thing without rushing to do episodes it would have been a very compelling story.

This is a book you'll read in one sitting if possible. A teenage girl disabled through no fault of her own struggling to make it through her dream of becoming a Dragon Rider. Her struggles of keeping up while on a crutch, her hopes of making it through the school, and her fear of the first ride. I wish the story was longer, but luckily the next is not too far off. I received this book free through an ARC, but in no way did that influence my opinion in this review.

I started this book not knowing what to expect. I haven't read many dragon novels. Sarah K. Wilson has created a world in which I want to keep exploring whole-heartedly. Her character, Amel, is my new favorite underdog. She's the most courageous, fierce, brave character I've read about in a long while. And I identify with her in a lot of ways. She is my hero. I'm glad I picked up this book and I will be jumping right in to book 2. Amazing book, hands down!

First Flight is a fantastic first installment to a series that I am looking forward to devouring. I love Amel's perspective and passion. As a reader that's always rooting for the underdog, I was thrilled to see her work through her difficulties and prevail in the end. This book isn't all sunshine and rainbows, though. Amel is bullied and ridiculed. There are casualties and some bloody scenes (thar be dragons, after all!). No matter, I am about to download book 2!

Sarah KL Wilson is a “go to” author for me; ie someone who I know can be relied on to produce books that are great to read. Dragon School: First Flight is a perfect example of that and definitely recommended. Amel’s story really did remind me of McCaffrey’s original Dragonriders tales, and that’s high praise from me. The same sense of wonder and adventure. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters.

Follow Amel into Dragon School. Watch her overcome the odds with determination, will and possibly a friend or two. When one of the few purple dragons choose Amel to be his rider, together they become friends who need trust. Because, they'll be jumping off a cliff together. Literally. This is a great fast-paced story about bravery, friendship and not letting physical attributes stopping what you want in life and what really matters.

I loved reading Amel's story. She is strong willed and determined, despite everyone expecting her to fail because of her disability. And well I am a sucker for dragons, so I couldn't not love Raolcan. My major complaint is that it is really short. I didn't feel like it is a full book with a conclusion. Absolutely loved this story, my only complaint is that it is super short, and leaves you hanging mid-action. You absolutely must have #2 ready and waiting to follow this up! The main character is an underdog, with a physical disability, but has extreme strength of character. And the telepathic link with the dragons is a wonderful detail. I've read the first two, and am excited top see what happens in book 3!!

The author is good, the story is well written and a fun read. However; word to the wise, don't start reading this series unless you can get it free through kindle unlimited. Each book is only an hour read and calling each a "book" is being generous. Its more like the author wrote a book and then broke it up into 20 different "books" to make more money. That part is really what killed it for me, imagine reading a book, finishing the chapter and then having to go and get the next 5 chapters from the store.

Who doesn’t want to ride a dragon, go to dragon school and bond with a dragon. I loved the world building and how the bond between Amel and her dragon, Raolcan, is strong and builds on trust. Not a leg and hip deformation, not the stories about riders dying in training and certainly not the other trainees in her wave.

For a first book in an episode series, it went pretty well. You are introduced to Amel in an emotionally high moment in her life. She is doing something not only for her family, but for herself. Very good start to a new series by Sarah K. L. Wilson. Short but very good and keeps you wanting more. Alem has a disability as she was injured as a child. But that just makes her stronger . Her purple dragon got to love, can't wait to read book 2.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. It was an excellent short story that I was able to finish in a couple of hours. I love the idea behind the Dragon Riders and am excited to see what happens in the next book. The copy I had did contain a few typos but that is to be expected in an advanced copy.

She didn't choose her dragon, he chose her. Injured as a young age, one leg is useless. How can a cripple ride a dragon?
Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I received a complimentary copy and freely give my honest review.

First time I have read a book by this author...but definitely not the last. The story was exciting and original. Love the fact that heroes have flaws. and I love stories with dragons. Looking forward to the next book!

Wonderful story, loved the character building and bonding between her and the dragon. In a way it is like a serial - each book ends abruptly and picks right up in the next one, but I definitely recommend it if you like YA dragon books!

If you love dragons and stubborn, determined characters, this is totally for you. I loved how the school was set-up with its different levels There were a few minor typos I spotted but otherwise a solid effort. Even though it was a novella, the story was exciting and engaging. Will definitely be reading the next one.

Action packed and fast paced this read was a one sitting read. Loved the characters. The dragon descriptions and types are great. Been looking for a book where the dragon and rider can mind speak. Can't wait for the next one!

I am glad a gave this book a chance because it is great! I loved that the main character isn't perfect. She has a bad hip and can't walk without a crutch but she isn't letting that stop her from learning to ride a dragon! Great book!

This is a very cute story about a crippled girl and her first days at Dragon School. Bonding with her dragon was just the beginning of her adventures. Voluntarily reviewed this book. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books.

I love any story with dragons, especially the telepathic kind. This book has all of that plus treatment of disability in a positive slant. All beautifully written. I just can’t wait to read other books in the series.

Wow. This carried the hope of dragon flight, the fear of self worth, the stubbornness born of adversity, and the wonder of curiosity. I'm looking forward to the continuing friendship and adventures of Amel and Raolcan.

I loved this thrilling story about Amel and Raolcan, and the value of courage and perseverance. The hints that each person in the story has an interesting hidden agenda have me hooked; I can hardly wait to know what happens next.

This was a great read. I taught for 32 years and I know my students would have gobbled up this story. An interesting plot and good characters made for a good read. I'm really interested to see what comes next.

kindle unlimited, would think for book spending so much time on unnecessary things that it would at least somewhat in some way match up the picture, being that the various {wrong} descriptions or picture states long long hair, purple dragon, and the blurb totally does NOT even somewhat describe the story of this very short basically a short prequel 'book'. The highly implausible 'everything has been moved up, for no real reason, good luck on not dying' part yeah totally did NOT make sense. The 'talking' dragon etc was great, but the execution of the story saw quite badly done. The story went from, supposedly being about dragons and related things to Harry Potter wannabe/90210 crap, and ' expect a new episode every eighteen days!' would be a good thing, IF the 'story-ies' were actually readable

Thank you for teaching me that short fantasy books lack nothing of longer fantasy books! The characters are empathetic, and I see quite a bit of growth coming up. Oh, and of course, tons of adventure! I'm off to read the next one :)

This was a good quick story about a girl finding her place in school. This makes it easy to relate to and the characters are well written and the style is easy to read. Add in dragons and the series promises to be a good on.

I adored this book! I am hooked! I always look for a book to reach out and grab and then keep me riveted. This book accomplished that. I love the characters. The wonderful spirit the heroine has keeps you rooting for her through her trials. She has the best outlook for someone in her situation. I can't wait to read the coming stories!

Short story packed with wonderful action. From the first page I was captured. Amel has a disability in which she is defined by by others. She is chasing her dream to be a dragon rider, and not letting her crippled leg stop her. When no one wants to be a friend she finds one in an older rider, and a dragon that chose her. This book is amazing! So excited to read more in this series.

A fantastic set of books. Read books 1-12 and could barely put it down. Addictive characters and story line that doesn’t disappoint. Waiting for book 13 is pure torture. Cannot wait to see what Sarah Wilson’s next project will be after Dragon School. Note for parents, these books are great for young reader (8+, nothing inappropriate).

Amel is a crippled peasant girl with the ambition and courage to join Dragon School. Will she overcome her physical limitations and the judgements of the other trainees? Will she bond with the dragon who chose her and complete first flight? Read this short but exciting book you won't want to put down to find out!

Dragon School the only thing that limits you is you! First Flight was an excellent start to the series. I love how Amel and her Dragon relate to each other. They also did a great job of setting up the first book.

Lot's of fun. Love the relationship between a strong young lady and her Dragon. Despite being misunderstood and dealing with prejudices just because of her injury she persevered and does the right thing.
