The Family of Jesus (Life-Changing Bible Study Series)

This book is based on the family members closest to Jesus. It is a story of how they may have felt or emotions that may have been going through. Some of it is an elaboration and the author does explain this, but as Christian writer the author stays as Biblically accurate as possible.
It was a fascinating study, and it really makes your examine what may have been going on or what that person went through. There is a least one person, if not multiple people in the story you can relate to. There is a DVD set that also has Karen Kingsbury teaching and reading some of the excerpts with an artist who is exceptional. The artwork and her reading the story, will bring tears to your eyes.

If you are able to do this study with your church or a small group, I highly recommend it. At our old church, we did this study with about 30 women and it was wonderful, because we all interpreted things differently and were able to share how we could relate from our own life situations and experiences.

Our Bible Study group is presently doing this study and I cannot say enough good about it. There is a small hardback book, a paperback workbook, and a DVD video. Our teacher did not "require" us to purchase the hardback for our group study and this worked fine BECAUSE we had the video and the workbook. In the video, Karen tells the story from the hardback while the scene flashes back & forth from her to a chalk drawer. Awesome! Each chapter of the book tells the story of a different family member of Jesus. If you just want to read the book you will be delighted as Karen brings to life a different family member in each chapter.

This book has been written like a novel. It follows the truths of the Bible plus the everyday life of the people at that time. It causes the reader to relate to the people and understand their negative thoughts and their increased fath in Jesus being the Son of God. Enjoy reading the book before answering the questions in the back of the book. You will experience a relationship to Jesus in the process of reading this book. Karen seemed to think that Elizabeth and Zechariah were in their upper thirties when they conceived John, but I really think they were older. She based her belief on the lifespan of those who lived in that period.

At first I was unsure about reading this book, but once I got started I was so glad that I kept reading. I love how Karen Kingsbury made the family of Jesus so real. Have you ever thought how did Joseph feel when he found out that Mary was pregnant. What was going through Mary's mind? What about Zechariah and Elizabeth? This book just made it seem so real and like they were every day people with the same type of feelings and emotions that we would probably wonder about. Excellent book and so worth the purchase. You won't be disappointed...I know I wasn't.

This audio series brings the story of Jesus to life! I listened to on my drive to/from work and what a great way to learn about the life and death of Jesus. The narration made me feel closer to Jesus and Mary and Joseph, and others from the Bible. I could visualize their daily life, made them come to life for me in a way never experienced. A boy, a mom, a family, with a divine purpose that has impacted each one of us who believe. Powerful way to bring the Bible to life!

The author shows wonderful insight to the times they lived in and to the characters themselves. We all grew up knowing about Lord Jesus in some form or another. This book gave you a look at what it might have looked like to be the first believers. We get ridiculed by family members now if we change our religion from what we grew up with. Imagine what it was like for them in the time that Jesus lived. Loved this book!

I enjoyed your book and thought it was so lnteresting your take on each of the family members was. I really appreciated especially all you said about mary. From a mothers heart , having children of my own, I could relate to all she went thru from the beginning , what love for her son. Ilove your books.what a blessing your books have been to me. Amazing story of Jesus and his family; puts His life and that of his family into different perspective. Karen Kingsbury has been a favorite of mine for years and this is one of her best! You're there. you are walking alongside Joseph as he makes his way to Mary. . . a must read!

This is a different viewpoint on the story of Jesus. The well-known author takes people from Jesus life and has you look at His life through their eyes. I gave this book 4/5 stars. It wasn’t the best book I have read but it did have some interesting viewpoints. I liked how the stories flowed; there were no boring parts! I liked that most of what was written you could find in the Bible. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a different viewpoint on the life of Jesus.

This was the first book by Karen Kingsburg that I have ever read, I loved it. She makes the family of Jesus real. We often forget that the people in the Bible were living, breathing people & she changes that for the reader. I cried for the different people I read about because she makes them personal. A great book.

Beautifully written in the Karen Kingsbury fashion, this book draws you in from the first page. Well written and documented, it makes you feel as if you are there and part of the conversation... part of the family.

This would make a great gift for the readers on you gift list, and be sure to get one for yourself!

Even though I "knew" the stories in this book, the author really brought to life the stories by portraying how they might have happened and how they may have affected Jesus' families lives.
I enjoyed it very much. If someone has trouble understanding the Bible, it would be easier to understand these stories that bring Jesus's story to life.

This made stories of the Bible so simple and easy to understand. The use of todays thoughts, language and minds pictures made this book easy to understand and enjoyable to read. I read the Bible but don't always get it. I wish the whole Bible was written in this style. Can hardly wait for her next book.

Love this book and am doing the Bible Study along with it. The only thing that's hard is not reading it quickly and waiting to go through each chapter

Ms. Kingsbury is known for writing novels.In this book she has done research into the Scriptures to pull the facts together about the family of the Lord Jesus.Not fiction this time ...the Word of God.

This is an excellent and well-known writer, but as a writer of Biblical Fiction I found the first part (fictional) full of many misconceptions. The discussion part was interesting and would be helpful to a group.

Have not actually done this study yet; but have done two others by Karen Kingsbury which were wonderful. I know this one will be also. Was only disappointed in the size; the others are bigger but I am sure the content will be just as inspiring and taking lessons from the Holy Family--who better. Mary and Joseph were chosen by The Holy Father to take care of His only Son; so what better role models can we have when caring for our own children God has placed in our lives??

Karen Kingsbury does an incredible job of "bringing the family of Jesus" to life! By the time you finish each chapter, you feel like you know the person personally. You feel their sadness or their loss or their hopes. I read some of the weaker reviews...this is not a book with historical facts (other than what scripture tells) and it is a Christian book. I highly recommend this book for what it is...a more intimate look into the lives of the family of Jesus.
