Jade Conner and Tanner Eastman have known each other since childhood when they were best friends. However a breakup of Jade's parents causes her to be moved across country with an alcoholic vindictive father but after nearly a decade apart they run into each other in the most unexpected place. A very serious, Christian based relationship begins between the two of them however; everything changes during A Moment of Weakness. This is a story that revolves around deep love and deep resentment as you will find out about Tanner's mother Doris and Jade's father.
I really like how Karen Kingsbury developed these characters; she did a great job of letting you get to know them so you could feel what motivates them and what their fears are. The story is well told and she does incorporate some characters from the first novel in the series but only as very minor characters. This book shows you how destructive unforgiving and unfaithfulness can be. There is also a very strong redemptive message of Jesus Christ.
I would say that the only thing that I found a bit of a stretch for me to believe was the forgiveness that Tanner offers to both women that he loves. It seems to me that you would literally have to be a saint to forgive that quickly without some type of resentment. If you like Karen Kingsbury then you will enjoy her new novel A Moment of Weakness.

“A Moment of Weakness” by Karen Kingsbury is book number two in the Forever Faithful series. This novel is one of love, loss, betrayal, and perseverance in the face of extreme drama. Childhood friends are split apart when one family moves on, much to the delight of one parent. Tanner’s mother doesn’t think that Jade is good enough for her son, for whom she has such high aspirations. A few years later the two meet again, continue their relationship with disastrous consequences. Interference from the mother again causes two lives to go separate ways. As the saga continues, Tanner and Jade meet again when Jade’s ex-husband tries to take Jade’s son from her in court. This is an extremely emotional novel to read. I almost found it exhausting, but nevertheless, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys deeply religious novels. However, I was anxious to finish the book as I was a little bored reading it.

This review is for the book "A Moment of Weakness" by Karen Kingsbury. This is the second book in her Forever Faithful series. I did not realize that this was a series or I would have started at the beginning. Fortunately, you do not need to read the first book in the series to love and enjoy this book.
Jade Conner and Tanner Eastman were best friends until a family tragedy tore them apart. They found each other almost 10 years later and spent a summer falling in love. In a moment of weakness, they lose track of their faith. When Jade is feeling the consequences of their actions, she goes to Tanner's mother for advice since Tanner is on a missionary journey. She takes his mother's advice, although it stems from lies, and immediately goes and marries a guy who has been chasing her for years. When Tanner comes home, he is diverted from finding her based on lies his mother gives him.
Later in life, Jade's son is taken from her because her husband doesn't share her Christian beliefs. Her custody battle needs the best law firm possible, and it just so happens that she has to turn to Tanner.
This book is intriguing, and although it didn't seem realistic to me, it sadly probably IS realistic in these modern times. I enjoyed this book and the characters. If you have liked other Kingsbury books you will definitely like this one as well.
Thank you to Waterbrook Mulnomah for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a very emotional read for me. There were times when I got mad! Times when I wanted got excited. Times when I wanted to laugh and times when I cried. Karen has such a talent for really drawing the reader into the story and the character's lives.
The story begins with a backdrop. Jade is a young girl and Tanner is just a boy. They live next door and are besties. But then tragedy hits and Jade's family moves away. Tanner wonders about her for years, but never hears from her again.
Then the story jumps ahead eleven years. Tanner is now in college, Jade is a student and volunteer at the local children's hospital. Providence has it that this is the summer Tanner is coming to town as an intern. Jade's life hasn't changed much, Tanner's on the other hand is headed for big achievements. His future... politics.
Tanner's mother has always wanted big things for her son. She has done all she can to push him toward the political arena. One day... He may even be president. Included in her list of sacrifices, never really telling him the truth about where Jade went and what happened to her family. Better to keep him safe. But secrets can kill, and there are many secrets yet to be unveiled...
Just as Tanner finds Jade and they begin to bond, the unthinkable happens. Choices are made, Rules are Broken, Lies and Secrets sever the relationship. Can it be remedied, or will the choices made forever keep them apart?
As I mentioned above, Karen can really pull you in! I found my emotions reeling. I wanted to smack someone, run and tell so the problem could be solved. I love how she draws me in, and the story unfolds. There was alot I could relate to. Lots of issues to work through. There are two main themes in this plot - sexual sin and the pain it can cause, and religious freedoms. Karen ties these two together beautifully. But there is also the brokenness of people, forgiveness, and healing and hope. I really like how Karen incorporates God into the story. Not just as a far off being, but as an up close and personal friend. Honestly, I just had to go read the end of the book once I got so far. I couldn't help myself. I am a sucker for happy endings! And it was worth it, but it is also worth reading everything in between. Once again, Karen has done it! Succeeded in making another story come alive for me. I feel as though I know these people. And really, the story is realistic enough, that they could be someone I know.
This is book two in Karen's Forever Faithful Series.

Jade Conner and Tanner Eastman grew up together and became best friends. They were always together and had the best time. Tanner told Jade that one day he would grow up and marry her. How many of us have made that promise as kids ? It is a sweet memory that sometimes can become real. Everything is going well until one day Jade and her family move. They have hopes of finding her mom that left them. It was hard to leave her best friend, but she hoped one day to return and rekindle their friendship. But as we all know, sometimes things don't go the way you hope. Jade never moved back and her hope of ever seeing Tanner became a distant memory.
Years later Jade is working as a nurse in a hospital where closure is being discussed. Tanner just happens to be the person who is presenting the case and who does he spot? Could it be his best friend from so long ago? Do they still share feelings for each other? The author writes a moving story with deep emotion of two people who drifted apart and now must face their feelings again. Is their faith still strong ? Can Tanner's ambition to persue political aspirations get in between them? There will be a moment that will change their lives forever , but will they be able to overcome pain, and forgiveness to get a second chance? It is a wonderful story that deals with redemption and flawed lives . God can restore what the enemy tried to use for bad, but will Tanner and Jade allow God to help them find their way back to Him and each other?

A Moment of Weakness by Karen Kingsbury is a very good novel. It is book two in the Forever Faithful series. Karen really keeps you attention with her books.
Jade and Tanner grew up together and became fast friends. Tanner was always saying I will marry her one day. Family problems and Jade moved away and Tanner never knew what happened. His mother knew but she hated the Conner family.
So they grew up and just happened to find each other again. They had a wonderful summer together and then they had to go on with their lives. Not to give the story away Tanner’s mother told Jade lies and hurt her so much she didn’t want anything to do with Tanner.
Jade married another and Tanner never knew what happened. To make a long story short Jade’s husband wanted a divorce and wanted their son. So Jade gets Tanner to help fight for him.
This is an amazing story, but so many hurtful things happen and Jade and Tanner’s mother use and deceive others. I don’t feel like this is a very realistic story. I know we are to forgive and understand how people can do such things, but in this book it is almost like they understood and forgave instantly. Recommend this book, but not one of my favorites.

When they were children, Jade Connor and Tanner Eastman were the best of friends. They lost contact when a scandal involving Jade's mother all but forced her and her father to leave town. Years later Jade and Tanner find themselves face to face again and realize that all the feelings they'd had before are still there. After a wonderful summer spending time together and getting know each other again, one moment of weaknesses changes their lives forever.
Ten years later when Jade's husband tries to ruin her life, due in large part to her desire to fight for religious freedom, Jade and Tanner find themselves together again. Faced with losing her only child, Jade must reveal secrets that she's held onto for more than ten years. When the truth comes out, Jade and Tanner find their lived changed again - this time for the better.
Originally released in 2000, this second book in Kingsbury's Forever Faithful series is no less relevant today than it was then. The fights for religious freedom mentioned in the book seem as though they could have been ripped from today's news headlines. The way the story was written was intriguing and thought provoking, it took me a lot less time to read it than I initially thought it would. I can't wait to pick up book 3 in this series, Halfway to Forever, to see how to story lines develop.

Karen Kingsbury writes another thought provoking story. Ms. Kingsbury shows that Jade and Tanner are "flawed" Christians...people who love God but make a "mistake."
Jade and Tanner have been best friends since childhood and then that one fateful night in an act of passion (they are committed to each other) but they made "that" one mistake of coming to together in intimacy before marriage...A Moment of Weakness!
Jade and Tanner live in different parts of the country. But Jade's husband is unfaithful and is fighting her in terrible custody battle for their only child. But there is one secret that Jade has not with Tanner. And one older woman who knows the truth.
Then Tanner enters into Jade's life...can forgiveness on both sides take place? Can the secret that Jade has kept all these years help and heal or will it kill all love?
As only Karen Kingsbury can write here is a great story of sin, love, and forgiveness.

A Moment of Weakness is yet another triumph from Kingsbury. She portrays Jade and Tanner as earnest, yet flawed, Christians whose one night of passion leads them down rocky roads that change the course of their lives. Growing up on the "wrong side of the tracks," Jade had a loose mother and drunken father and no spiritual upbringing whatsoever. After her mother leaves them, Jade spends the rest of her sad childhood taking care of her alcolholic father and trying desperately to rise above her circumstances. In the meantime, her childhood playmate, Tanner Eastman, with a wealthy and cultured background, lives his life mostly as his parents expect him to, with one exception. He becomes a born-again Christian, something his overbearing and domineering mother cannot understand. When Jade and Tanner meet again as young adults, they realize how much they love each other and want to be together. Tanner leads Jade to Christ, and they make a commitment to each other and to God to stay pure until the time that they can marry, when Tanner finishes his law degree and Jade her nursing degree. But Christian young people have hormones, too, and a night of unbridled passion between the two of them changes things forever. Kingsbury does an excellent job of portraying Christians as real people with human characteristics. Without being "preachy," Kingsbury shows how lives are affected in one single "Moment of Weakness."

Love Karen's writing style, her characters, her morals, plots...the list goes on and on. She's a master story teller with stories that are guaranteed to grab your heart. I didn't want to stop reading once started but had to go to work. Took it with me and read on breaks. The focus here is sex outside marriage, she handles it wonderfully and shows exactly how faithful and forgiving our God is.

My Thoughts:
I have no clue where to start this book had me in my emotions from the first page, the very beginning of this was so great but then towards the middle it seem to just drag on there were many times when reading this book I felt like I was reading the of a Lifetime Movie. There was so much packed into this story which I felt like was not needed. I do have to admit that I had a hard time connecting with the storyline at times. Overall it was an okay read I did enjoy the ending very much. Plus I fell in love with Jade and Tanner.

I highly recommend all of Karen's books. This book isn't exactly about the main characters from Book 1, Waiting for Morning. It does have them mentioned in the book, but again, they aren't the main focus. When you read the third book (Halfway to Forever) all the characters from Waiting for Morning and A Moment of Weakness are included. Karen Kingsbury is a very blessed and talented author. I tell all my friends to grab a box of tissues when you read her books. They touch your heart so deeply and help you realize how each day is a gift to be treasured.

This was a powerful story of sin, forgiveness and love. The journey you take with Jade and Tanner will have you so entranced you will not be able to put this book down. Kingsbury does an excellent job portraying two young Christians. They start out as childhood friends, and then where separated for years. They find each other again, they enter a moment of weakness that turns into another separation between them for another decade. But only this time with a huge secret that Jade keeps from Tanner. This story sends a message of two humans, who are Christians, making a mistake. With the help of Tanner's mother, it drives the biggest wedge between Jade and Tanner, the second decade separation. When they meet again, they are grown adults. They choose this time to follow the Lord's plan, even though they were not sure what it was. Their faith was strong ending this story with a wonderful bang. I won't go into much detail, you must read this. We all commit sin, just like Jade and Tanner did. Kingsbury uses the perfect scriptures in the story at the right times. She reminds us how powerful and loving and forgiving our Lord is with the scriptures. Hats off to Kingbury on this one, get your tissues ready.

Karen Kingsbury never disappoints. She weaves a wonderful tale that keeps you turning the pages. Her characters are believable and have room for growth and opportunities for faith. I love that her books aren't just full of all happy moments but there are struggles that are real to life. I was so engrossed in the book that it didn't take long to read. I would highly recommend A Moment of Weakness to Kingsbury fans and to those who enjoy beautifully written stories.

The author did a good job of showing the personal and social consequences of sin. Jade and Tanner come off as likable, sympathetic people who do what we all do - sin. Here we get to see its consequences magnified and dramatized. (As a Catholic, I couldn't help thinking how much the characters would benefit from a good, sacramental confession not only so that they could know their sins had been absolved but also for the graces they would receive in helping them avoid temptation.)
The book also serves as a warning about the ever-growing threats to our religious liberty in the U.S., where secular humanism is having a profound impact.
It was both an entertaining and thought-provoking book.

This book is one of the better Karen Kingsbury books I have read in the last 2 Years. Although it is not as good as the books in the Cody Gunner set it is still quite a good read and worth the time. Although this can be a stand alone book it is better to read all 3 in the Forever Faithful set. The bonus of 3 books means you get to enjoy more depth of the characters in 3 books instead of just 1. I like the author's writing style and strong characters in this book as well as the story idea. I will read more from this auther when I find other winner books she has written. My other reccommendations from Karen Kingsbury are from the Cody Gunner set- A Thousand Tomorrows and Just Beyond the Clouds.

This is the second Karen Kingsbury novel I have read, the first being One Tuesday Morning. For the second time, I have come away with a respect for the quality of writing that Karen Kingsbury produces.
Her characters are not storybook, because their lives are flawed as are all of us and yet she accurately chronicles the work of God upon the hearts of his children and their response to the Holy Spirit's prodding.
A Moment of Weakness is not for the faint of heart--I wouldn't recommend it for children because of the complicated plot lines. However, for those who did pick up this book, it will give you a fresh perspective of God's incredible grace and love in bringing his children back from the slough of thier own sins and into a loving embrace.
You will not be able to put this book down as you find yourself heavily steeped into the lives of the characters of this great tale.
Buy this book--its definitely a one or two-nighter.

No matter how long it takes, God will be victorious in the lives of those who are submitted to Him. Jade and Tanner’s love story had many ups and downs as God tried to show them His plan in Jeremiah 29:11.
