A cast of characters with agendas both admirable and sinister! With his trademark dialogue, David Rosenfelt has penned a story that could be ripped from the headlines (although I would hate to read about it in the paper)! I read the book within a 24 hour period!

Even though the majority of reviews thus far gave AIRTIGHT 5-stars, I cannot, in
good conscience, do the same! This is a good, fast-paced read; however, it does
not live up to my expectations for Rosenfelt. Perhaps more character development
should be his focus in future efforts. Overall, I must say that he is one of the few
emerging mystery talents, surely not comparable to Michael Connelly's tendency
to 'over write' with too much 'pulp'!!!

Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series is one of the few I buy in hardcover and reread, but his thrillers are first rate as well. I thought I had Airtight all figured out about halfway through, but he got me with a powerful twist at the end. Bravo!

The stand alone thrillers of Rosenfelt are all good four star thriller reads. They are well plotted, move right along and if you are looking for some quick entertainment, they will do the job. But they will not knock you out so you are exclaiming days afterwards, "Wow, that was terrific." This is because it is mainly just the clever plot keeping the whole book afloat and once you put it down, you will quickly forget about it. But that's fine. I don't expect every book I read to be a five star read.
In this novel, there is the murder of a judge. Judges can make a lot of people angry just by the nature of their jobs. So the police have to discover which people he rules against to see if they stack up as possible murderers. Before they are far along at all, a druggie who is about to start a major prison term handed out by the judge is discovered with major evidence on him linking him to the judge's murder. But he raises his gun and the detective, Luke Somers, shoots him dead. Case closed?
No. Now the case truly opens. Because that slain drug dealer has a brother who wants justice plus there are a lot more sinister people with a lot more on the line who had good reason to kill the judge. With that premise, Luke, is put in the center of solving the case anew.
I figured out who did it fairly early on. It wasn't that hard. If this is a big part of these books for you, you might consider this a negative point.

Airtight is a quick and pleasant read. Throughout the reader must wonder who the real bad guy is, and the author has limited the choices enough so that it becomes too easy to figure out, and too soon. I would like to have been held in suspense for longer. As it is, the book had 100 pages left when I realized that only one person could be responsible for the nefarious going-ons in the little town of Brayton. That didn't stop me from finishing the novel, and I wouldn't let it stop you from reading it. There's a good story here.

Yes, I enjoy David Rosenfelt stories – even without Tara. However, this just didn’t sparkle with dry, wry wit or suspense. The story was rather predictable.
I hate to pan the book; Rosenfelt is one of my favorite authors. However, this book was rather simplistic.

I have read all of David Rosenfelt's books, since the first Andy Carpenter entry. This one is pretty much top of the list. He brings it all together. The plot is tight and original, the characters believable and well drawn. I found myself wishing it had gone on longer. Overall, it's extremely suspenseful and surprising.
I'm glad he seems to be branching away from the Carpenter series. While I very much enjoyed the first 5-6 in the series, the last few have been somewhat flat and predictable. Andy's a nice enough guy, but somewhat two dimensional, and while he rightfully brought the author to prominence and popularity, the plots, situations and humor in them are starting to seem like rereads.
Here's hoping he continues along the lines of this excellent new read.

Although a terrific read, did anyone else notice the 'inconsistency' on page 261? SPOILER ALERT!! READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK. "When I got to the top I saw Bryan lying facedown on his back,..." Does anyone know how this can be accomplished??? Wrote about this on Mr. Rosenfelt's official site and got no response. Would really like to know if this was intentional or a missed proof read.

I eagerly awaited David Rosenfelt's new release, AIRTIGHT, but was terribly disappointed. It was a laborious read. It was boringly lengthy due to the undeveloped, flat charterers, simple and disingenuous dialogue, and an implausible and confusing storyline. By the middle of the book, I didn't even care who was the antagonist. I kept reading hoping it would redeem itself, but it did not. This book was substandard compared to all of Mr. Rosenfelt's past publications. I miss the author's Andy Carpenter series!

i cant believe this was written by david rosenfelt. there is zero similarity between this writing and the andy carpenter reads. this book reads like it was written by a school kid. very flat narrative. juvenile dialogue. and implausible storylines. i completely lost interest less than half way through. very disappointing. now i am leery of his next carpenter offering. i do not recommend this book. it is a waste of time and money.

Rosenfelt's latest attempt at an engaging story falls woefully short. I'm extremely disappointed I wasted my money and time on a book that is so devoid of plausibility or accuracy. The author should stick to writing about dogs, a subject about which he at least is familiar.
