The howlers once again rise and fall. I love this book I love the story and the fact that it still going is thrilling to me I can't wait for the next book it's going to be epic. I have a hard time swallowing all the anti-Darrow rhetoric but I guess he hit the nail on the head the fact that a ten year war is still going on there would be naysayers but I would never doubt Darrow. His passion is unmatched.

If you enjoyed the other books in this series it’s a must read. The first few hundred pages move slow, but the story picks up so stick with it. I was disappointed by how some of the characters seemed less deep from past personalities and motivations, but I have faith in Mr. Browns storytelling that it will all come together.

In the vein of the great Black Company series, the author breaks from the single first person to interwoven multiple first PPOV's. Following other similarities: There are no "pure hearted good heroes"; there are few completely detestable enemies; human nature and greed screw up great plans; conversely those of evil deeds seek redemption through deeds of self-sacrifice. Well written, well edited (mostly), incredibly detailed character development, great plot(s), only one star off for some slower plot points and slightly predictable plot twists.

Shipping/product: Some sticky stuff on rear cover. Paperback is also not the same size as the other books in the series, a little annoying in the sense that it looks not as aesthetically pleasing in my bookcase. Will report back on the book story itself after I read. But I'm sure that will be great.

I absolutely love this series, along with my teenage children. While I would say it took me a bit to get back into the story and overall it's a little less involved than its predecessors, I'm am emotionally invested in Darrow and Sevro! And now a few other characters as well. Can't wait for the next one

I like series books. Disappointed in the direction the author went with Darrow. Brought in many new elements/characters but lots of loose ends. Have to wait for book 5 to see how book 4 ends. Though I like series books, i like each book to free standing. This book didn't wrap up any of the stories.

I wasn’t sure if the slow opening, awkward multiple 1st person narrators, or shifting tone of the first book in the new trilogy would be able to make me fall in love with Sevro, Cassius, and The Reaper all over again - but halfway through the novel, I did.

It is different, it is far more political and meandering, it is strangely crass (lots of awkward f-bombs), but it still has the Brown penchant for cliffhanger.

Give it a shot!

Loved the first book (favorite of all time). Really enjoyed the second and the third. The change in perspective and multiple characters took a little bit to get used to. I enjoyed the book and will buy the next one. It was not as good as the past books.

Already being a fan of a this fictional world Brown has created, I was most impressed by the character detail and in depth psychological paths his characters took. This new writing style I believe is a very comfortable look for him and he should continue down this road.

What happens when you free those who have been enslaved for centuries?
This re-entry into the atmosphere of Red Rising is both incredibly exciting and thought provoking. My only regret is the wait for the next installment in Sept 2018.
If you liked/loved the Red Rising saga. You must read this book.

Explosive beginning to a new Red Rising trilogy. Pierce Brown weaves a larger tapestry as we see explore further into his Universe. We pick up with our heroes Darrow, Sevro and the howlers trying to stamp out the Ash Lord. Mustang, now as Sovereign, having a Monumental task of keeping the fragile Society together. Along the way we meet old & new players in the drama, who are just trying to survice. The author does an excellent job of developing these new characters with a nuanced hand. The action is fast paced, drama high and the stakes are bigger than ever.

I love the introduction of new characters and perspectives in this installment. It's great to see our favorite characters from their enemies' perspectives to really grasp how truth can be manipulated and is often relative. He writes realistic characters that each have their own struggles with darkness and light. Pierce also holds up a mirror to many relevant social issues and institutions. Makes this "futuristic space story" still incredibly grounded in humanity and relatable. Less action than previous books, but a steady rise to boiling point that makes me so excited for book 5!!!

This was a emotionally difficult read because the development of what I fear to come tears at my heart. I still hold Cassius alive as no body was produced so long live Cassius. Let him become what he was to be to Darrow.

Just like I anticipated, Pierce Brown has once again out done himself. This is a fantastic addition to the Red Rising world and I got lost in it just as swiftly as before.
( I have the distinct feeling that Dark Age is going to be insane and I can’t wait for it either.) This book was prime and everything we needed it to be if not more so. It broke my heart several times with sevral characters but the biggest heartbreak came almost at the end with a phrase so similar to the one Darrow first shared with us at the very beginning of everything and the entire time after all I could think was “Oh, Darrow look how far you’ve strayed.”

Swell job Pierce Brown

I liked the earlier books in this series for their strong characters and narrative flow. This book had neither. I found it disjointed and hard to follow, and ultimately not worth the work of slogging through.

The impossible continues to be embellished over and over again. The same defenses, weapons, tactics, and actions that always saves the reaper are the very things that allows him to kill his foes. This started as a trilogy but continues to be drug out just as bad movies are for the sake of profit. Book one started this adventure so very well. Disappointing.

This book was absolutely amazing. It picked the story back up superbly. The continued and added character development was breathtaking. The flow, suspense, and twists of the bool keep you craving more with every new page. I cannot wait to see what the next book has in store.

In my eyes and imagination Pierce Brown can do no wrong. In this book he weaves together several characters' stories brilliantly, leaving readers unable to put the book down, only wanting more. I can't wait for the next one!

This book like the others does not disappoint. The humor and battle sequences make this book very hard to put down. I read it so fast the first go around because I needed to know what happens next. I had to reread it a second time just to enjoy the writing and the characters.

Only started reading but already impressed by this book. Pierce Brown has done an outstanding job with this series. Just saw today he has other books pertaining to this series world -- plan to order and read them all in the near future.

I have loved these characters from book one. I can feel the atmosphere in the description. I am heartbroken it is ended, I can already write the next (j.k). I did in parts feel the verbage got in the way of the story. Nice job on the multi narration, hard to write I imagine, made it easy though to read.

Red Rising is now one of my favorite scifi epics. Each book outdoes the last with constantly evolving characters and expanding spheres of rich landscapes. The author somehow effortlessly introduces new complex characters and pieces to his story while always respecting and building on his original core of heroes. Can't wait until the next installment

Wow! The writing style and plot development are worlds beyond his earlier works. This is truly a masterpiece and could stand on its own without the other three books. Great read. Cant wait for the next

Once again, Pierce Brown has done an immaculate job of reprising his role as an extraordinary visionary with this installment of the Red Rising saga. He understands how to captivate his audience and keep them wanting more. I can't wait for what he has in store next.

I really loved his other three books. It had been so long since his last book that I forgot about the characters and I had a hard time getting into this book. In the end, I liked it. I may reread it again so that I can get some if the book that I missed first read through.

Thanks to the publisher, Penguin Random House, for providing me with a Netgalley copy of the book in exchange for an honest review as a result of a contest!

You'll have to forgive my language, but DAMN YOU, PIERCE. How could you do this to me? Rip my heart out by making the stakes even higher, making me care about even more characters in this incredible world you've built, only to leave fates hanging in the balance and the universe on the brink of an even bigger war? HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME WAIT FOR MORE?

Okay, sorry, now that I got that out, I can take a breath and try again. DAMN YOU, PIERCE. Oh, sorry, there was more.

Pierce Brown has done it again. First, in the original trilogy, he built a world from the ground up, then tore it down spectacularly. Now, he's upping the stakes and bringing more characters into the fold... more characters for us to learn to love, and leaving more of our hearts available for him to rip out and shred into tiny pieces. You've done it to us before -- you know the ones I'm talking about, Pierce. You remember what you did to us in the first trilogy. And you know what you're doing now. And you know that, no matter how much pain you cause me, no matter how many of my tears keep you fed and satisfied, I will keep reading. Because the world, the characters, the stakes, the loss... it's all worth it. You've made a masterpiece, and keep on adding to it in masterful ways.

Dark Age can't get here soon enough.

A bit darker and less hopeful that the three previous books, but engaging nonetheless. The use of different perspectives adds to the depth of the story. Still one of the best series that I have read in the last 25 years.

We see everything that we have come to expect, but it lacks something that made the others so great. It’s almost too serious, and I’m sure once you read it you’ll understand. I highly recommend this book as it will not disappoint, but I just miss the fun small moments in the earlier installments. Like when Darrow deadweights hundreds of pounds, and the other Reds flip out over his Carved strength.

I found it difficult to get into at first because the book is written first person for more than just Darrow as we've had in the past, but the writing is fantastic as usual. Once the main characters become more established and familiar the book is just impossible to put down. If you liked the past books you'll love this one for sure.

The fourth installment somehow manages to recapture what made the original books so thrilling, inspiring, and captivating, but multiplied four fold as the story telling method changes to follow more than one protagonist.

This was everything I expected in book 4. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Mr. Brown thank you for this special series of books and thank you for creating the love I feel for Darrow, Mustang, Victra and Servo. I could not put it down and could not turn pages fast enough. Just Wow...

What I thought was a series finished has been continued with a damn fine addition. Excellent character development, action, and most importantly story telling. This is some of the best science fiction out there. Eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Another good one by Pierce Brown. The tone was definitely different in Iron Gold, and I feel like that pace was much more leisurely than the red rising series (at least for parts). A good read, looking forward to the next book!

I loved the first series and this book completely brought it back.

I wasn't expecting Pierce Brown to be able to return to this world 10 years later and deliver on the story front, but he did it and upped the ante.

There are multiple perspectives now and he executes them flawlessly. The pacing, the action, it's all top notch.

Anyone who liked the original series should check this out.

I liked the continued development of the characters and the struggles they are dealing with as they strive to create a better government for the people. I also like that the reader can identify with the stuggles as compared to our current struggles in our governement. The only thing I didn't like was the small font.
