This is vintage Heyer, chock full of wit, humour, history, romance. For those who loved "These Old Shades", renew your acquaintance with his Grace of Avon, Leonie, Fanny and Rupert, and meet bad boy Dominic and the delightful Mary.

This is one of our family favorites! Heyer's writing is excellent and so are the characters and the plot. Justin Alastair, Duke of Avon, is one of the best characters ever created! His presence in this is minimal, but worthwhile!

This is one of those victorian novels that is gender-neutral in taste ... recommended by my father in the early sixties when I was a teenager ... I still enjoy reading it.
My favorite chapter is the first encounter between Mary and her would be father-in-law, the Duke of Avon.
