Some of Georgette Heyer's books are better than others; this is one of her very best. Of course you'll know how the story is going to end, but in this case the "getting there" is so much fun you won't want the book to end. Parts of it had me laughing out loud (you'll understand when you get to the part about the Barcelona Collie). Heyer isn't considered great "literature" like Austen, but I've got my copy of Frederica on my bookshelf right next to Pride & Prejudice.

Frederica is definitely a Georgette Heyer novel with all the usual style and details. The time setting is consistent throughout the novel. The story itself is entertaining and reasonably paced without long mundane section.

This book is so irresistible, I must have reread it four or five times over the years since my mother first introduced me to the Regency novels of Georgette Heyer. Frederica is one of Georgette Heyer's most delightful heroines--along with my two other favorites, Venetia and Arabella!

I love that he found himself caring for her young brothers. I love that for the first time in his life he was concerned about someone other than himself, all because she was concerned about her family. This wonderful story had heart-warming humor and charming excitement. I love that the story was about a friendship that became love. You'll love this love story.

Georgette Heyer was and always will the greatest writer of period romance. Her books are light, but paintstakingly researched and beautifully written, She combines humour, suspense and romance with a light, deft touch. I have been reading her books for more years than I care to remember and they are always my go-to books when I want to escape from the world.

I love almost everything written by Georgette Heyer...and the ones I don't love...I like tremendously. Frederica is similar to my favorite--The Grand Sophy, however it is just not quite there. It is a good read however, filled with witty dialogue, fun and scapegrace situations. Overall Frederica is just about perfect for sitting by candle or firelight on a dreary day, or reading in bed just before sleep.

My favorite of the Georgette Heyer novels. Mine had become worn out and I needed a replacement. I have nearly all her regency novels, and while her settings and characters are all very well developed, the characters in Frederica are among the most lovable.

I have always enjoyed Mrs. Heyer's books for their detail and exactness for the era. But my favorites involve her clever characters. Frederica is one of my favorites. The closing line is worth the whole book.

Wonderful story and great characters. Not too far in the story I was able to picture and understand the personalities of each character in the book. If you read carefully there are numerous jokes and jibes based on personality traits. Loved it.

My mother introduced me to Heyer many years ago! Reading this book was like re-discovering an old friend. I laugh at loud at the Balucistan Hound!! "Frederica" is a joy and the original which many often try to copy. A spritly heroine and a elegant bachelor gentleman who suddenly has a family to manage and a lady to woo!! A great read!

As always, Heyer's heroines can stand the test of time, since they're fiercely independent, urbane, and in no way inferior to the handsome Earl, Duke or whatever! These books are essentially on my list of 'happy reads' , when I just want to snuggle up in bed with a book, and lose myself in a world that is light and airy, as all Heyer's books are.

Georgette Hyer's books are well written in impeccable English, they are hilarious and give a real view of the regency period. I have all her 54 books 12 of them are mysteries and she is excellent in that genre.

Other reviewers will do full justice to Georgette Heyer's charming books. Many of us are happy to have found a source for her writing once again. BUT! I bought "Frederica" for $1.99 Sept. 2011. I bought other Heyer books at the same price afterward, or at very similar prices. Then prices crept upwards. Now the store's Kindle is indulging in price gouging now that they've caught onto the fact that this author is a winner. I'm returning to buying used physical copies and not handing the store and Kindle some $8. or more for convenience.

What a delightful book! And what a delightful story of the Merrivilles, with Frederica at the helm and the Marquis of Alverstoke on hand to pull the various family members out of scrapes - and naturally fall in love with Frederica in the process. This book is a friend for life.
