The Quiet Place is a simple and encouraging daily devotional. I actually have the printed and digital version- it is just a small morsel for the day, but gives me something solid to meditate upon.
I really appreciate Revive our Hearts and Nancy's writings, this devotional would make a great gift (I've personally gifted it to me sister and mother) and any believer would appreciate the solid truths and ease of writing style.
I highly recommend this beautiful devotional.

Started at a very low point of my life with all the problems in the world, helped me go to Jesus and get to see who he is and what he can do for the lives of those who are where i was, but also how different it is to be in him as to being in the world. Thank you Lord for Nancy and her team, they are a big blessing for me.

I was very blessed, challenged and drawn even before I got to January 1 of this book. The Lord has used Nancy Leigh DeMoss for many years, and this is just another way He is doing so. You will want to have this book to read and re-read over the years. I will be buying it for others also as time goes by.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best devotionals I've ever read. Each day, she drives home a Biblical truth that too often hits me squarely between the eyes. Buy this book, you will not regret it.

What is it?
The Quiet Place is a daily devotional written by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. The content of the devotionals has been adapted from several of Nancy's books as well as transcripts from her radio programs. So, if while reading you find something vaguely familiar, as I did, it could be because you have, indeed, heard it before.
In the preface, the author writes, "I would hasten to remind you, however useful such a resource may be, it can be in no way substitute for getting into the Word itself. Think of this book, or any other devotional book, as merely an appetizer, a "pre-taste" of the meal to come. These readings are not intended to supplant your need for God's Word, but simply to create a hunger, stimulate your appetite, and tune your senses and heart to long for more of Him." I love it! I love that way she puts her own writings in their proper place.
How is it organized?
This is a yearly devotional staring with January 1 and ending with December 31. It also includes leap day, February 29, which brings the total readings up to 366. Each day contains a verse, some thoughts related to the verse (usually containing a story) and application questions. The application questions are really the gem of this book. They are very specific and designed to elicit a response from the reader. If taken seriously, these questions could serve as an evaluation of your spiritual health and a call to personal holiness.
What did I think?
I have several devotionals that I use and love. Spurgeon's Morning and Evening causes me to meditate on the doctrinal richness of our faith and love the Lord with greater affection. Elisabeth Elliot's A Lamp Unto My Feet leads me to repentance. A lot. She has a way of unearthing and exposing sins I've grown comfortable with. The strength in Nancy Leigh Demoss' The Quiet Place is its emphasis on application and call to action. It would be difficult to walk away from the day's reading without a specific action to accomplish or principle to meditate on.
I highly recommend this book. I look forward to starting 2013 with this book as a part of my daily Bible time.
I received this book free from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Having read another book by this author, I was really (really!) excited to be able to review this one too. A daily devotional, each one page long, this is a beautiful book with a gorgeous cover. It would be perfect to give to anyone as a gift, but I loved that it has a soft cover and can handle lots of wear without getting any "tear".
Each day starts with a verse (or two), has a few paragraphs of devotional thoughts, and ends with questions to reflect on and ideas for ways to take what you've read about, and put it into practice in your life. I feel like the questions and thoughts that are posed are almost more important than the devotionals you read, because they're fantastic little nuggets to chew on throughout the day. As an example, the reading for October 20th has you read Exodus 34:27, talks about the importance of having a written remembrance, and then ends with the following suggestion: Consider taking time to write out selected passages of Scripture that particularly speak to you. See if they don't go from your hand to your heart. I felt like that was perfect, and not necessarily something that would take long, but a good thought to consider and easy to actually do!
I have appreciated being able to use this devotional, and I'm really excited about incorporating it into my daily routine going forward. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a new devotional to use!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are completely my own.

I got my copy of The Quiet Place about a week ago and I have been reading it randomly. (In other words, today is September 17 but I read much more than the daily entry because I wanted to.) My favorite days are the ones where Nancy tells a story about history or nature or her life to apply a Biblical principle. One day she wrote about the ancient war tactic of "nailing the colours to the mass." Apparently, back in the day when two countries were at war lowering the country flag (colours) meant you were surrendering. But one war hero nailed his colours to the mass. His men would win the battle or go home in coffins. It was such a powerful word picture of the tenacity she called for in our faith. These kinds of stories bring application to the Bible. I believe that Nancy would tell you that these are spiritual snacks. She wouldn't want them to be the entry for your daily feast of Truth, but they certainly are solid morsels that wet your appetite for more!

The photo of this book does not do it justice, this is a beautiful book with a leather cover and embossed title. It also has a built in ribbon bookmark that is very handy.
Description: This is a Christian devotional that has 366 daily devotions that begin with a Bible verse and then have a page of application or explanation to go with the verse. They end with questions that cause the reader to reflect on what they’ve read.
What I Liked: I’ve always enjoyed Nancy Leigh DeMoss as a speaker, I have seen her on videos and feel that she has been blessed with a practical teaching ability. I found these devotions to be impactful and thought provoking. As a Christian, I recognize the importance of spending time daily with God but if I’m being honest, I will admit that I don’t always take the time to do so. This book is wonderful because the devotions are not long but they are still meaningful. I also love that at the end of the book there is a scripture index that shows each devotional based on each book of the Bible. This would be very helpful if you wanted to delve deeper into the meaning of a certain verse.
I received this book from Moody Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

When I received this book from the publisher, Moody Press, I was immediately delighted on account of the aesthetic qualities of this lovely book! The rich blue binding is crafted of leather which is embossed with a beautiful design. I thought the loveliness of the design quite fitting with the treasures contained on the pages within! Derived from many of Nancy DeMoss's previous books as well as from transcripts of her radio programs, the devotions in this book are compiled and organized to bring wisdom and peace to the reader daily for an entire year. Although published in 2012, this book is timeless as it presents the truth for all time: the truth from God's word! I encourage you to read each chapter carefully and dwell on each portion. Also, don't skip over the application questions which conclude each devotion. Let the Lord use this book in your life to bring you closer to Him!
From my first look at this delightful little book, I knew that it would be my devotional for the upcoming year. I look forward to learning from these chapters through 2015!
I will update this review as I continue to learn from this devotional!

What a blessing to have writings of Nancy Leigh Demoss compiled into a year's worth of devotionals called The Quiet Place. Bound in a blue faux leather book, I am thrilled to have 365 readings to implement into my daily quiet time. It's a little thin book which would be easy to slip into a purse or book bag. Each entry is one page in length, beginning with a Scripture passage and ending with a call to action/application. Over and over again in my Christian walk, the Lord has used Nancy's writings to challenge and encourage me. Like her other books, these truths are based on the Word of God and meant to push you into a deeper relationship with the Lord. This is a devo I will treasure.

I am SO EXCITED to review The Quiet Place by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Like I have said before here on My MisMatched World, that I LOVE devotionals. Well, this one is no different. This is a 366 day devotional, so you can go everyday of the year, even in a leap year. Can I get an AMEN!! Each day, there is a scripture piece, then a story. And at the very bottom of the page is a “call to action”.
I very much-needed this devotional. So, when I was checking out the books at Moody, I saw this one and let out a squeal. Oh, yes I did Internet. I was going CRAZY! I am super excited. Then the mail delayed the books. So Moody had to send them out again. I am so grateful to them for that! I so wanted The Quiet Place for my devotional. I highly urge you Internet to get a good devotional for your personal time with God.

Are you still looking for a Christmas gift for someone on your list? Consider giving this beautiful devotional by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. This devotional book has readings for each day of the year. Each day consists of a Bible verse, a short excerpt from the writing and teaching ministry of Nancy Leigh DeMoss and some application questions. A Scripture Index is included at the back of the book.
I appreciate how the author encourages the reader to dig into the Word of God for themselves. She desires that her writings only be a helpful tool to stir up a thirst to read the Word more. Her writing is well thought out and helps the reader to think through the Scripture that was read. I would highly recommend this devotional. It would make the perfect Christmas gift!

This is an encouraging devotional to say the least. If you start your day with it, your day will go better. The first thing I do when I swing my legs over the side of the bed is thank the Lord for another day and then I praise Him. If I stop and read some scripture, then the day goes even better. This devotional is something to read early in the day or right before you go to bed so that your mind is meditating on the word as you sleep. I also bought another book to help me pray effectively - Lin Tomasso's Prayer Warrior: How to Get Your Prayers Answered. I downloaded it to my laptop (you can download it to your computer or any device) for $2.99 at smashwords.com. If your prayers are falling flat, this book will set you straight. It taught me that prayer goes by a formula, so we have to do it right. It also spots the pitfalls that are holding your prayers up so you can correct them. God bless.

It is very basic, well written and simple in its teachings. So much of it has history woven into the stories she tells to go with each day's scripture. Its beautiful; eye opening on many levels too. I do enjoy devotionals and this one is surely another I shall add to my collection. Especially for those days that we are on the go and I need my bread. I can grab this and find not just His word but the beauty woven into it and the creation about us all. I do believe there is so much we gain when we not just hear and read His word but apply it. And historicaly, spiritually, in all facets of life then and now, it is alive!

The Quiet Place: Daily Devotional Readings by Nancy Leigh DeMoss, ©2012
It is my hope that this volume will help you cultivate a quiet heart and find fresh springs of blessing in the presence of the Lord.
--Nancy Leigh DeMoss, author of The Quiet Place: Daily Devotional Readings
Excerpt:
April 6 Secret Treasure
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me. --Psalm 25:4-5 NKJV
ONE OF THE GREATEST DESIRES OF MY HEART and one of my most frequent prayers over the years is that I might know the ways of God. To know His thoughts, His feelings, His heart, and even His "secrets." To have His perspective on this world, on history, on current events, on the future, on work, on ministry, relationships, my family, the church--on everything. To know what brings Him joy and what causes Him to grieve. I want to know His ways!
I don't believe He owes me an explanation, and there are aspects of His ways that will remain hidden to us in this present life (Deut. 29:29). But I want to know everything about Him that He is willing to reveal.
That's why, before I begin to read God's Word in the morning, I often pray the above words of David from Psalm 25. This psalm goes on to tell us the kind of man or woman to whom God will reveal His ways: the humble--"He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way" (verse 9); as well as the one who fears the Lord--"Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose" (verse 12); "The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant" (verse 14 NKJV). What an awesome thought: that the God of the universe would confide in us and trust us with aspects of His character and ways that remain hidden to those who do not fear Him.
Are you hungry to know more of the Lord? Eager to grasp His will and His purposes? God's willingness to share His secrets with His creatures is evidence of His desire to have an intimate relationship and friendship with us. Come humbly and reverently. Let Him show you His ways.
For at least the next few days, pray the words of Psalm 25:4-5 before you begin your daily Bible reading.

The author Nancy L. DeMoss has touched the lives of millions of women through Revive Our Hearts and the True Woman Movement, calling them to heart revival and biblical womanhood. Her love for the Word and the Lord Jesus are infectious, and permeate her online outreaches, conference messages, books, and two daily nationally syndicated radio programs-Revive Our Hearts and Seeking Him with Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Her books have sold more than 2,500,000 copies. The Quiet Place is formatted in the usual format for a devotional book. There is the month, day, Bible Reading for the day, and a comment on the reading. The devotional has a reading for the first day of the year to the last day of the year. The comments are all very well written. The author on the June 1 reading takes a look at James 4:10. The comment centers around a proud person verses a broken person. "Proud people desire to be known as a success. Broken people are motivated to be faithful and to make others successful. Proud people are elated by praise and deflated by criticism. Broken people know that any praise for their accomplishments belongs to the Lord, and that criticism can help them become more like Christ. Proud people keep others at arm's length. Broken people are willing to take the risk of getting close to others. Proud people are concerned about consequences and problems caused by their sin. Broken people are more concerned about how their sin has grieved and dishonored a holy God. Proud people feel worthy of respect. Broken people feel a desperate need for God's mercy." I could go on with numerous examples like this one throughout the book. The book is very well written and is perfect for anybody who wants an excellent devotional book.

This is an amazing little devotional by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. It is a devotional that will take you through all 365 days of the year from January 1 to December 31.
Each day contains a verse, and application questions are the highlight of this great devotional. They are very specific and designed to bring out a response from the reader. These questions can help you as you mature in your spiritual journey and walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
This devotional is so beautiful, with its imitation leather cover, a size that is easy to handle and take anywhere, and would make a wonderful gift to any woman. This is something that I will read, re-read and keep by me always.
I highly recommend this devotional.

"The Quiet Place" is a great devotional to start your day off with. Each day begins with a Bible verse and then a brief application. It only takes about 5 minutes to read so it is perfect for women on the go, or in my case, a busy mom! This devotional offers great spiritual encouragement that can be meditated on throughout the day as Nancy writes in a way that is very personal yet applicable to women everywhere. One thing I appreciate about this devotional is that each day has its own topic so if you miss a day, you don't feel completely lost. This also makes it easy to start even after the year has begun! I love the insight into scripture provided by Nancy through this devotional. I have found myself challenged and encouraged by it daily! I definitely recommend The Quiet Place as your next devotional!

The first thing I noticed about this new devotional from Nancy Leigh DeMoss is how wonderful it is to hold it. It is a beautiful book with a gorgeous cover. Just picking it up, I feel more relaxed.
But that's where the relaxation stops. Once I start reading, I am challenged by the concise yet bold words that this devotional contains. Lots of solid stuff to ponder.

I've enjoyed this devotional book by Nancy DeMoss. It's the perfect size to take in the car to read while waiting for kids. The cover is beautiful, and the best part is that the devotionals each day point me to truth in one concise message that's short enough for me to read and ponder while I corral my kids. This is also perfect as a gift for that friend who has everything! Well worth my time and money.

I had been enjoying this book with its soft cover and thoughtful devotions until........... I hit March 8th where she spoke of Gods wrath against "murder...and hordes of other sins including homosexual perversion.....just about every awful thing you can imagine".... where is the beginning point of these vile activities?"....I am so very thankful that I did not purchase this book unwittingly for a CHRISTIAN friend of any orientation other than straight homophobe. Talk about "awful" things" - how awful it would have been to have come across this and been condemned while innocently seeking God in devotional readings. I understand many readers would have been fully supportive of her stance - if so, carry on, enjoy the book. As for me, I just cant read on. I bought Choosing Gratitude also, but I wont be reading that either for fear I run across a passage suggesting I thank God for not being born one of "those" vile people. There is nothing in any description of the author or her life's work that would serve as warning to prospective buyers - that was unfortunate for an unsuspecting reader like me.

Nothing new. Reading this book was a waste of time actually. The style of writing of the author is very close to a crossing or the drop's history by Anatoliy Obraztsov. But the second one was more cognitive and useful for me. But it's my opinion.... maybe I'm wrong
