Another great story by Jeff Wheeler! I have read several of his books and have enjoyed them all. This story revolves around two girls, Cettie, a young girl from the tenements, and Sera, a girl born into an affluent family. Lots of intrigue and a great story line. Also part of a multibook series. Looking forward to the next book!

While there are some references to other Wheeler series, this new book stands on its own and was an intriguing start. I am a fan of this author and look forward to book two. You will find yourself rooting for the young characters while hoping for the downfall of the adults who try to manipulate them.

The story was easy to follow, both main characters were likeable (although I found Cetie's storyline more interesting), and the climax at the end was very exciting.
Overall I found the book well worth reading and look forward to the next in the series. However, I found myself wanting to skip sections in the middle of the book because I found the story lines to drag.
I really liked how the series links with other series from Mr Wheeler.

Ghosts, flying ships, floating cities, and a land riddled with political wrangling, corruption, and poverty: this is a well-built, clean, fascinating fantasy story with elements of magic, eighteenth century class struggles, and a riveting mystery to unravel, this book was so much more enjoyable than I expected. Two thumbs up!

I absolutely LOVE Wheeler's writing style and was eagerly waiting for this series. It did not disappoint. My only critique is that the big climax was slightly .... not so big. That is why I gave it 4 stars. However, it being book one, I understand he can't give us too much. August cannot get here quick enough!

The best fantasy has strong world building and consistent use of magic. While the main characters, and through them, the reader, are still just on the edge of any understanding of the magic-like Mysteries, it is clear we will be learning much more in the books to come. The major and minor characters are compelling and interesting and I look forward to getting to learn more about them all in the upcoming books.

i started thie first book in this trilogy. I could not put it down.
i felt anxiety, fear , wonder, delight, though sporadic because of Mrs. P's ferocious power.
Just what the author wanted us to feel.
The description of the fells did remind me hitorically of medevil London.
I am flumoxed that I have wait for the next two books to carry forward Seri and Cetti's future in Muirwood Abbey. A place I have alreaxy visited. It will be a joy to return.
Hurry plz Jeff!@@

After reading Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy I looked for a new author and was intrigued by the Harbinger book covers. The story, characters and the author's underlying philosophy all mesh together to create such a compelling story that i couldn't put it down. the only negative is that the world has to wait until November to get book 3.

Jeff Wheeler sets his latest series two centuries after his Muirwood tales (which I bought after reading this one) to give it a Regency England feel. The poor live in cramped cities mostly paying off their deeds of debt. The rich live on floating palaces – but bad investment can send the palace hurtling to the ground. Two preteens who will eventually become close friends are at the heart. Cettie Pratt starts off in an orphanage where the Landlady doesn’t feed them, forcing them to go out to steel food. Luckily she finds her Daddy Warbucks in a retired vice-admiral Fitzroy who is a potential candidate for Prime Minister. Sera Fitzempress is the only daughter of the Prince Regent. His selection after the Emperor has a stroke, leads to a break between the Prince and his wife, with Sara caught between the. Fitzroy’s mines produce valuable silver and worthless quick silver until Cettie notices the relationship between the movement of quick silver and storms and Fitzroy realizes that this Storm Glass (paper from 47North) is something the empire needs. I’m eagerly waiting book 2.

I have loved every series Jeff has written so far and this one does not disappoint. I love that the main characters are women and this world isn’t your typical dragons and magicians land. I look forward to learning about the mysteries and how relationships develop. Thanks again for a great entertainment.

Really liked reading a fantasy book that doesn’t entail great battles, endless strategies and killing. The story includes strong young women, kindness in several characters, creative approach to setting the world and an interesting take on wealth and poverty. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I have read the Kingfountain and Mirrwood Series and loved them both. Now I find myself smiling, laughing and almost crying (Joses) with another series start. I was so pleasantly surprised with the hook to Mirrwood and can't wait to see where it takes us. Also kudos for keeping Kate Rudd as narrator in audio book. She is da bomb!

I’m so glad to have found this book! Refreshing and innovated storyline. I can’t wait for the next one. Liked the ending not a cliff hanger but you’re definitely excited for the next book! Well done!

The author makes you fall in love with the protagonist, Cettie, nearly instantly. The character development of the other characters is equally satisfying. Even for characters that could have easily become static such as Fitzroy and Ms. Pullman. They are all multi-faceted relatable humans. The writing is innocent and easy to read without being condescending or preachy. The story took me instantly into the world. I could see and hear characters with ease. Picturing the landscapes was effortless. I am thouroughly engrossed. I can't wait to read book two.

Cettie of the Fells stole my heart. Reading this story I felt for her as I went on this journey. I have already been recommending this book to my friends. If you are interested on a new fantasy world and new type of story I recommend this book to you. I can't wait for the next one. How much detail Jeff put into this world, it feels like you could just move into your own mansion in the clouds. Also you may want to order your own Storm Glass so you can watch the changes in the weather too.

I knew I should not read this book...why? Because now I have to wait for the next one!!! Amazing as always! I fell in love with Jeff Wheelers books when I read the Queen’s Poisoner and I can’t get enough! He transports you to the land in the story and I love how he ties them all together!! Wonderful! I can’t wait for the next ones!!!

Somehow the author took a societal structure that is so unfair that it's uncomfortable to read and filled it with characters rich enough in potential and promise that I couldn't put it down. This is the first of his books that I've read but I can tell you now that I will read them all.
