I found this book to be entertaining, however, it follows closely along the lines of other fantasy books, in particular the Lord of the Rings influence is extremely obvious. It was highly predictable but still it entertained me with a few unique ideas.

Enjoyed the book real well, as usual had trouble putting it down, Kept getting later
and later, and still reading. Then when I finished the book, was looking for a sequel
or series or something.

Thealos Quicksilver is a merchants son, in the kingdom he is to choose a calling but Thealos wants to discover for himself the worlds around him. This goes against his parents wishes and the chancellor. He is charged with treason and is allowed to go home with his father where he proceeds to run away. He is caught by bandits that want to kill him and with his quick thinking tries to lead them to a treasure a precious sword of a soldier they killed. The swords powers are obvious and he kills one of the bandits when they catch him and take the sword and leave him for dead. He is saved by a Sleepwalker known as Jaerod. He tells Thealos of his future journey and why he must come wth him to save the kingdoms from death and destruction that has never been seen. He tells him of the everoot which he used to cure and bring him back to life. He tells him of the kingdoms and their soldiers that are using the everoot to fight making them invincible and they cannot die. The artifact that they need to save the kingdoms has lost its protection. However only a quicksilver can touch it and claim it. Their journey is difficult and they meet unlikely allies. They have to be careful of the team of soldiers sent by the kingdom to bring Thealos back. A really good story. A little slow in the beginning but I could not put it down once I got past the slow parts. Another wonderful book by Jeff Wheeler.

I read his Trilogy "Whisper's from Mirrowren" (I believe it was titled) and I thought "Landmoor" would be as spellbinding...but it was not for me. I enjoyed the storyline/description by the editor and the reviewer's, even some of the characters in the book itself...but for me there were just toooo darn many! Because you have... who was on whose side plus several "beings", a kingdom or two of course with rulers, councils, commanders, good & bad guys within the ranks, guards, kind of special forces...all with names. Ohhh..lets not forget Gods, throw in some spies, add rebels with their cause, sub groups within the groups (I hope that's correct, if not at least close!)... Lastly another race similar to ours, pretty much and their hierarchy...which brings you up to like page 50! I usually do not have an issue keeping up with multi-character books. So I really did give this a chance. I literally went back to the beginning three times, starting from scratch..thinking I must have been distracted, too tired, excuse, excuse, excuse. I'm sorry, I give up! I'm sad not knowing what happened with the young male's journey and the Shae's, it was very interesting : (( oh well..looking forward to Jeff Wheeler's next book : ))

A well crafted complex tale full of imaginative of lines and well developed characters. I enjoyed especiAlly the first 70 per cent of the book but the last 30 per cent of the story was not to the same standard. The ending was not convincing and does not allow this book to stand by itself. Still, a fine story worth reading. Well proofed and professional, thank you.

That cliffhanger!! Such a good book, and after reading all the other J. Wheeler books and thinking I couldn't like any series better, I've found I was wrong. This may be my favorite of all the books he's written so far. I loved it!

Definitely the worst book I've read by Wheeler and I am a BIG fan. You can see how this was his first book as the characters lacked depth (I just didn't care about them), the world building was weak! Magic system simplistic and religions pathetic. It also didn't help that the book lacked a map. I'm glad Jeff has come such a long way over the years as a writer. This is one I would stay away from.

Wheeler has a wild and crazy imagination. When I first started on his writings I almost put it aside as too weird. After I got into it I found it most intriguing and really enjoyed all of his books. If you can't let your mind drift into something you have no idea is possible, go read Snow White -- oh wait, that's a fairy tale too. I enjoyed the read and will read anything else he puts out.

LANDMOOR is a fine read, presenting an engrossing story in well-crafted prose. Wheeler's interest in medieval history comes through in his vivid descriptions of the towns, taverns, clothing, and weaponry. His martial arts background comes into play in the well-designed fight sequences.
Most importantly, Wheeler's characters are complex and interesting. There is a definite line between good and evil, Forbidden magic and Earth magic, yet the characters are in no way one-dimensional. Though LANDMOOR fits in with "clean fiction" suitable for younger readers, it is not "fluffy bunnies and lollipops." Not by a long shot. I thought Wheeler's creative approach to "cussing" added a nice touch of humor to the book.
The only mildly annoying aspect of the book is that the ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger. Clearly, LANDMOOR is meant to be part of a series. Fortunately, the world Wheeler has created is easily intriguing enough to support one with little difficulty.
In short, if you enjoy high fantasy, you'll love this book.

I was hesitant to start another fantasy series. By the second chapter, I was very interested in the characters. By the fourth, I made myself stop to do chores, cook dinner, go to bed before 2 am. By the end of this book, I'm chomping at the bit to dig into the second book....

Woohoo. Another great Wheeler saga to become engrossed in. I can't wait to continue the story. Who's the bad guy, the good guy? Probably a mix of both. Wheeler always weaves history and culture into his stories. I can highly recommend. Gbash

Classic issues to develop the story. Amazing protector does wonders but is faced off and has to leave the quest. The merry band continues on. Are captured... proven outline to nurture the reader. Choice of wording is pleasing to read... I like Jeff's books.

'Landmoor' is a first rate blend of fantasy and science fiction, heavy on the fantasy. The characters are grand and complicated, and they effortlessly push along an exciting storyline, through a richly dark setting. The novel's youthful protagonist, Thealos Quickfellow, wants to see the world. He desires to travel beyond the parochial walls of Avisahn; breach the barriers of isolation his people the Shae have erected; and understand the workings of the world. He is thwarted by the ruling Shae Council of Elders and is forced to risk exile as a KilShae to follow his dream. But life in the outerworld is not as he hoped. Thealos is quickly caught up in the surreal horrors of the Bandit Rebellion--a war that threatens to destroy the Shae way of life and the entire world as well. Thealos finds that he is the key to a Shae artifact that can stop the forbidden magic of the Everoot, which has the power to heal and destroy. Magic, fighting, love, honor and betrayal abound as Thealos and his companions--the beautiful human woman, Ticastasy; the loyal Drugaen, Flent Shago; the enigmatic Sleepwalker, Jaerod; the Shaefellow tracker, Allavain Devers; and the knight of Owen Draw, Sturnin Goff--try to solve the secret of the Castle city, Landmoor. This book is one of the few deals this year where the reader can say "I got my money's worth."

I discovered Jeff Wheeler quite by accident after signing up for Kindle Unlimited. One of his newer books came up as a preview read and I was hooked! He does a great job with his characters and develops a strong story line that does not disappoint. I truly enjoyed this book and I think you will too!
