Wow it's sooooooo gooooddddd! I really like this book. Now if you like apocalyptic movies with a little romance but not the gushy stuff this book his the spot. I stayed up till 2am to finish it. I was on edge biting my nails practically flying through the pages! This is her first book!!! shes a lot better than most writers. Now some people would say the plot is a little amateur... the characters in the end always win... but i like books that give me what i want lol a happy ending so i will say if you dont like that then the book will probably irritate you.

I really enjoyed this Stranded novel. I like books that contain people learning that they have more courage and inventiveness than they knew. As for the critics who have picked on this book saying the kids have too much good luck, I disagree. For one thing the original premise is these kids are being rewarded for very high test scores. So they are smart and the are farm kids used to being self-sufficient, This is a book series written for entertainment. It's entertaining.

Basic EMP premise, with teenaged protagonists. Not all adults are evil or stupid. The teenagers' capabilities are a bit unrealistic. Some dips into a libertarian sense of justice that are too long for the character they're attributed to. A strange mix of gun love then prideful declarations of Canada not having the US gun culture seemed oddly put. Only a handful of typos, typical plural s with an apostrophe, affected vs effected, etc. Overall a decent fast read, and I'll follow the series.

This was a really interesting story. I love the play on the end of the world to NOT be zombies. It's a good book with characters to love and laugh with. I would say this is a GREAT book for YA but I'm an adult just reading a free book... So I'd say good for an adult. I do kinda want to read the second book. So I would recommend you give this one a try.

I really enjoyed this book. I read the Kindle edition. There were some grammar errors but they were easy enough to read around.
I enjoyed the characters in this book. The author really seemed to bring them alive and they seemed pretty much like average teens in the beginning. Of course, anyone going through something like this would cease to be ordinary or average very quickly if they were to survive.
Anyhow, I will now read Sea and see what I think of that one! I hope that the author continues to write, I think she's got a lot of talent!

What a great read. I really enjoyed the characters and hearing of their adventures. How the teenagers were forced to grow up faster then they should've, how they were were forced to make adult decisions and live with the consequences.

Good storyline and excellent plot development. Just when you think it is going well a twist has you on the edge of your seat wondering who will kill or be killed. An excellent beginning to what looks to be a good post apocalyptic series.

The concept was well thought out and the characters were well defined. I enjoyed the story and the plot . it was well written and well thought out it seemed like it could really happen. The way they worked together and the trouble they ran into seems to be what would really happen can,t wait to see what happens to the group who went by sea.

I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from the author in this series. I could have personally done without so much profanity from the kids, especially the F bomb, but that's just me. I do wish the author would do a bit more research in regards to weapons, I.e. semiautomatic does not mean three round burst, but one shot per each pull of the trigger and AK,s either fire fully automatic or semiautomatic. I've seen much worse mistakes by other authors though. Overall I really liked it.

This book was simply amazing. I got it because it was one of those, get this free now, books. Sometimes I find a good author in those, and this one was one of those gems. This book of course led me to purchase everything else she has written. I was blown away. I cried, I laughed and I rooted for. I do hope she does more with these characters, beyond the four pack.

Apparently others criticized the author on factual details concerning certain sites. If you want real life put down the book and call your mother, because this is a book for entertainment. And this book is entertaining. I appreciate Theresa doing this little book to answer the question to what happened to the third group. And it was interesting. I liked that challenges were presented, nothing was all rosy and easy, and somethings things went horribly wrong. Because that is what would probably happen.

Not a romp, but an engaging thought experiment - which is better and more chewy. I liked that Ms. Shaver avoided the whole "Road Warrior" testosterone driven post apocalypse scenario, and posited a rather more reasonable vision (IMO) of what such an event would bring.

And the protagonists were Canadian, eh? So you knew they were going to be as nice as events allowed.

Canadian teens stranded in California after EMP detonation and must make it back home. No Zombies but they do have to contend with bad folks. After 40 + zombie books this one cleaned my palate. Well written, wonderful story line which keeps your interest page to page. nice kids who are easy to like. will most definitely read author's next book as she has earned my financial support.

Except for the profanity!
Why do people/authors think readers want profanity in their leasure novel reading?
I for one Do Not!
Please, clean it up!
Your only hurting your self by limiting the number of resders that will not return for book 2.

I really, really enjoyed this book! I loved the characters! I especially liked it that the teens were heroes. I like heroes! Not too much teen angst, lot of storyline. All that happened to them might not happen in real life in the same situation, but that is the beauty of fiction. Bravo Theresa Shaver! I purchased the next 3 books in the series. I don't often do that.

I definitely enjoyed this book, within 3 pages I was hooked, and it kept my interest the whole time. I thought it was realistic, but I wish they talked more about how "the event" happened. Maybe in the next books she'll explain more about that part of it, and I'll definitely be reading the next books!

I started with Land which I loved. Good characterizations--moves along quickly--as these teens tried to get back home to Canada after an EMP which ocurred while they were at Disneyland. Then I went on to Sea about the teens who tried to get home by sailing up the Pacific coast and then a short story about what happened to the rest who stayed in the city. All great reads--very imaginative.

This book is obviously written for teens or young adults, sort of along the same format as Hunger Games. But just like the Hunger Games series, Shaver's Stranded series holds enough suspense and is well-enough written for adults to enjoy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the good story in Land. Loved the characters and the build-up of romantic suspension. I also enjoyed the survivalist details. Quick and fun read. But the story does not end in this book, so to find out what happens next I must read the next 2 installments.

I read the book today on kindle. Enjoyed the story, a little too much good luck maybe, but it is fiction. I plan to read book 2, there are 4 books in the series, if the second is nearly as good as the first, I'll read book three.

Love it - great read. A lot of thinking went into this novel. You will learn a lot of things that can save your life. We may need these skills in the near future. Read, enjoy and learn. Alex is my hero. These kids were great - if they made a mistake, they didn't make it again. Never giving up is the key. I am reading Sea now - but I can see the set up - when is the third novel in this series going to be out - please hurry!

Decent read with above average grammar and spelling. I enjoyed reading about the survival tactics used by the group but IMO they were a little too lucky and resourceful for most 16 year olds. Things came a little too easy. So, while IMO, it's not the most realistic story, it was entertaining enough that I bought the second book "Sea".

This book kept my attention throughout. My only complaint is it started off reading like a short story written by a high school student but improved over time.

The courage these kids show was incredible. I read this book with my son in mind but will probably not allow him to read it due to language and content. Warning to parents: language is not good and rape is mentioned.

From some small editing problems, this book was good. Granted the kids have the luck of the angels, but it is nice to read post apocalyptic fiction that has people that actually end up winning. Some books I've read have adults doing such stupid crap that I end up cringing and screaming throughout the duration of the book.
This is a good tale, with a positive outlook. Go Canadians.

Just finished the book and was very disappointed book 2 wasn't out yet. I enjoyed the book a lot. The character development was good and you got to really like and care about the characters.
I will definitely buy book 2.

The reasons for the 4 rating instead of the 5 are:
The about 15 or so "F" bombs in the book. The language is surprisingly mild all the way through the book except for random "F" bombs here and there. Not necessary in my opinion.
The characters have almost unrealistic luck. I don't mind far fetched fiction because I want to "get away" not read about reality and going to work from 9-5, or endless details about drudgery (which this didn't have). There was just a little to much "MacGyver" for me if you know what I mean. Things always just worked out so easily with only a few places of real hardship. This prevented me from a "total immersion" into the story.

Other than that now that the negatives are out of the way.... GREAT first book on the store.
I hope Ms. Shaver sells a bunch so she is able to write even more of her storyline. At $3.00 I felt like I got more than my moneys worth. I would easily pay up to $5 for her second book. ($7.00 is my limit on almost any author)
I have read many of the non-zombie PA books here on the store and this was better than some of the ones always getting raves. I wouldn't say top 10... but probably top 20 of the genre.

Rated R for language (as described), Rated soft PG for sexuality, rated PG-13 for violence (not to descriptive of the violence scenes)

I just finished reading " Land " by Theresa Shaver it was such an interesting book that you can't help but fall in love with the characters. And feel the pain they are going through. Can't wait to read the 2nd book.

This was a nice easy read that kept me entertained although at times it could be a little far fetched. Fantastic character development, you really got to know everyone in the group which made it more interesting. Looking forward to reading how the sea faring group did!

This book was good. I really liked the characters. It's the first of 3 and I am looking forward to reading number 2, but really looking forward to reading number 3, just so I can get back to these characters followed in Land. It's good to read a pa book where kids still think and think better than most adults at times and humanity isn't completely gone.

I enjoyed "Land (Stranded Book 1)" by Theresa Shaver even though it is more directed to a teenage audience. When the story flows well, I usually overlook grammatical errors, typos and added words throughout the story - like this one. It's a story of survival! A group of Canadian students are on a trip to Disneyland in the U.S. when there is a bright flash and everything electrical stops. One of the teacher's being a prepper was quick to realize the disruption as an EMP attack which fried everything with a circuit board and electrical current. The students discuss their options, vote, and then split into 3 groups who will try different ways in getting back home.

This book follows five kids (3 boys / 2 girls) overland as they attempt to reach Canada on foot or by using whatever other transportation they could find. The group appear highly mature and plan their entire trip with the use of a map and some extra money that the teacher offered. There are both good things and bad that occur enroute...the teens get wiser as time goes on. Unfortunately, the book ends prematurely and readers will have to purchase book 2 (I thought) to see the outcome. However, when reading about the next installment, I found that it will be about one of the other two remaining groups back at Disneyland; book 3 then follows the third remaining group who go into LA. Since they all end in cliff hangers, I found that I would not find out about the continuation of this first group until book 4. Surmising that the books will all end in cliff hangers, I decided to pass on the rest of the series.

I would have been more invested into the series if each of the books followed the three groups simultaneously in their quest to get home - their exploits continuing in the next installment. However, from reading the book descriptions, it even appears like book 5 ends in a cliff hanger thus requiring another installment for the story to continue.

Sorry Theresa, you had me at the beginning of this story, unfortunately, the dynamics of the series being what they are made me lose interest.

I just finished reading this writers first novel. I think it is a very good story. Canadian high schoolers on a trip to Disneyland when the EMP ruins everything for them. Their trek back to Canada shows that teens are able to take care of themselves and do some good and well as deal with the bad. I couldn't find any typos or gramatical errors which impresses me. I will be anxious to read the coming volumes of this series.

I really enjoyed reading this series. I first bought them for my Kindle, but then recently bought them in paperback. I recommend this series to all who enjoy reading about apocalypse stories. They may be geared for teenagers, but this adult enjoyed them also! Best to this author! Keep them coming.

I started this book and it was so captivating that I finished it without putting it down in only 4 hours. The characters were all lovable and intelligent. I found them easy to relate to and really felt on the edge of my seat worrying about them over their journey.

My only complaint is that I can't wait to read the next books and find out the end of the story.

Where will you be when the lights go out? Stranded tells the tale of one group that must fight against all odds to get home after an EMP attack leaves north America in the Dark. Great pacing and not too much tension. Just a fun read where the heroes find a way to overcome every challenge they face.

It was an easy read. Perhaps it was the characters (a high school group) that made me feel it was geared toward that group of readers. Also, I was not aware that it was part 1 of a series so there was not a decisive ending.

I rather enjoyed this book! I was a bit skeptical about starting it, but once I did I was hooked. The characters are pretty cliche and a bit cheesy, but the story was exciting! In fact, I would give the story 5 stars, but the editing would garner only 3 stars, thus I averaged and gave the work 4 stars. I am currently reading "Home" which is the final book in the series.

This book is the most emotionless minutiae filled sleeping aid ever to be published on the store. The title should have been a give away. Canadian students must leave Disneyland to head back to Canada due to an EMP attack. One group goes by land, so the title is "Land". This is their story. Three pages are used to describe how a child was extracted from a car seat. The entire book is like this.

This story was extremely wheel-crafted, with strong characters you can actually care about and root for. Although the story is about teens, I would recommend it to all. Refreshing to avoid the political screed and weapons list of most apocalyptic novels and for the characters to meet both good and evil on the road. I can't wait for the next one! Ps a couple of typos but fairly well edited too.
