What can I say- this was a pretty cringey read.

The author does a lot of exposition, like when a character just talks about something a lot so you can get caught up really quickly. I hated that because it felt forced and fast paced.

We read about her vaguely being a peasant for about 2 seconds, then got thrust into a whole new world where everything is dandy and main character (what is her name..?) is perfect at everything she does.

This got very boring very quickly.

I don't usually read these kinds of books but I have to say I enjoyed the way the Author told her story. I feel that she made us feel like we were part of the story and could feel what was happening between the characters. It had everything love , magic, wars, and evil. Well worth a read.

Especially, when the good girl has some kick-ass magical abilities up her sleeves. Add in a bad boy, turned good, and you get a power couple you'll love! Their love and passion for each other, is hot as hell and so sweet, your heart will melt. Add in integrity, honor, and real commitment to the people who look up to them and you can do nothing but root for the couple to conquer all. I'm excited to read the next book in the series

I read a lot of the kindle unlimited books, I mean a lot. Most of them are good or great but riddled with errors. Not only was this written better grammatically than most that I have read but the story is amazing and it isn't just another easy read to keep me from dying of boredom. I loved the story and am super upset that the third one isn't out I can not wait to read it.

This is my first book by this author. I am so glad that it was recommended to me. The story is fast paced, with enough backstory to put you into the world of the book. I am very excited to start the next one.

First book? What? No way! This is a WONDERFUL book - clear, well written, suspense, romance, magic, fated mates, intrigue, and a villain that you don't expect. I kept looking for the next book in the series, and when I discovered that there was none I was not happy! Please, Meg, write well and quickly and get the next book in The Chosen series published! Don't leave us hanging!

This book is outside of my normal reads of late but it is a good read. The story line is interesting and the main characters are as well. I think that some of the characters could use a bit more depth but for a first timer this is really good

From the very beginning the book has you intrigued in the story Meg Anne is weaving. Then it keeps you hook until the very end and definitely leaves you wanting to read more. I can't wait to get my hands on book 2, hopefully it's not too long.

Amazing writing that pulls you in and has you begging for more. I am glad that I am used to strange looks from family when I burst out laughing while reading. They kept wanting to talk and I just wanted them to go away so I could read. I cannot wait for book two. Someone has gone and made Helena spitting mad. The personalities of all characters, including animals, are well written. You feel like you know them and understand them.

I loved it all!! The story, the magic, the humor. And oh boy the romance!! That caught me off guard haha. But I loved it!!! It was such a good book, I dove into the second book right after to see what would happen next. It wasn't a thriller, but definitely kept my attention. Looking forward to the third book.

This is not a bad book. I kept turning the page to see where the author was going to take us. It was slow to begin with and I found that the characters are slow in figuring things out. I felt that they made really silly mistakes. But other then this I thought it was OK.
I am looking forward to book two.
For 18+ due to language/violence and sexual content.

I couldn’t put this down! One of the new features I realized I had with prime was free books! (We’ll, some free books!) I stumbled accross for this book, and decided to give it a try! I was sucked in and finished in within a day-now, I’m dreaming and wondering what’s going on in books 2, 3 and 4! Great read, and even better that it was free! I’ll be purchasing the paperback set so I can reread anytime I want!

This was a very well written story but I did take me a while to get into it. But once it started picking up I did enjoy it. When Helena finds out that she does have powers she finds her mate. They are connected in every way possible, and have a bond that allows them to talk straight to the others mind. When these weird shadow things threaten the life of their village they must go hunt them down and kill them all but that's not the only thing that gets in there way.

Enjoyed this series very much so far. The author paints a world, that while similar to other fantasy genres, still reflects a different spin that is well put together and creates a beautiful world, people and magical system. Looking forward to the next book and hope it gets published soon!

The plot seemed to move too fast for the characters and their relationships to develop. Elysia and world building wasn't truly unique either but otherwise this is a nice read to fill up a lazy afternoon.

I give 5 stars to the best book of 2017. I loved the characters strength and depth. The way the plot built drew me in and never let go. The love scenes were absolutely steamy?. I can't wait for the next book.

I really enjoyed the story and it was well written. I did not like that it was continued. Most series end their stories and this one has a cliffhanger. I don’t like feeling like I have to purchase another book to find out what happened.

Its a good book and the word usage was great. The build up to the end of the book left you wanting to continue reading on. Reached the end in hopes there was a snip it to "Continued" pages. Looking forward to a part II.

Mother of Shadows is a paranormal story. It follows Helena who has had a normal upbringing, to keep her safe, until the time when she becomes the Chosen one to lead her people. Helena is only just learning how to use and control her magic and as part of her initiation she chooses a mate, Von. She didn't so much as choose him so much as her body and soul recognised him as her mate. The story ends on a cliffhanger of Von being taken.
This is the first story I've read by Meg Anne and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next in the series.

I am not sure what is up with all of these positive reviews. I found this book to be terrible!. The Characters are boring and completely forgettable. The story moves nowhere and nothing happens. By the end of the book, i forgot what happened in the beginning!
