I really enjoyed the book and would recommend reading it, however the reason I didn't give it 5 stars, was I thought towards the end it drew out a little too long. Other than that it was an enjoyable read and I would encourage reading it. Almost a 5 star rating, I would say a strong 4 plus stars, read it!!!!!

The story line of this book was great but there was way too much redundancy. There's only so many times you need to read the details about their lovemaking and their quarreling before it gets boring.

I enjoy Fern Michaels writing so much. I have read her books over the years and I am always satisfied
the type of read you can't put down. Books are all very different. I wish there were more sisterhood series
Duel of Fire (Steel and Fire Book 1) :: Happily Ever After (Cinder & Ella #2) :: Cinder Edna :: A Lunar Chronicles Collection (The Lunar Chronicles) :: A Reimagining of Cinderella (The Andari Chronicles Book 1)

Amazing strong woman. Talk about growing up in a hurry. Callie never let go of her convictions, but she certainly had to go through her trials and tribulations. Fern Michaels hit a home run again on this novel.

This is a truly great story. Lots of history of immigration and the trials the immigrants suffered. It also has a wonderful romantic story that has many twists and turns. Loved this book and highly recommend it to others.

This was a great book, took you back in history as you watched the struggles of a young girl, trying to support her family, her harrowing trip to America, her struggle through adulthood and love and the unbearable pain of motherhood. I couldn't put the book down. I did find the last part of the book to be long and drawn out. It could have been shortened and more about Callie and Byrch into the future, what happened to them did they have children. I would have liked to have seen that.

This was a great book until the last third or quarter of the book. First part, very descriptive, lots of action, great story. Then we got into the drama of the two lovebirds playing cat and mouse and their innermost thoughts OVER AND OVER AGAIN. This book should have been cut short 50 pages sooner with the lovebirds resolving their issues with distrust and lack of communication.
The next time I read a book by this author, I'll look at the end first.

Oh what a tale! Full of emotion that takes you on this epic journey through Callie's trials and triumphs. More than a romantic tale... a wonderful heart wrenching story! I beamed at her perseverance and truly cried from her losses. The author really knew how to bring you into Callie's world and made you feel you were the main character herself. Stunning work of fiction! Thank you!

Background: Starts in late 1840's Dublin and follows the life of Callie James for the next five or so years as she emigrates to New York. Selected by Romantic Times as one of the top 200 romances written since 1980.
Basically, this is a book with a split personality. The first 300 or so pages are the saga of a poverty stricken Irish girl going through one crisis after another. Our "hero", Bryce, appears three times - all briefly. The final third of the book is their "romance".
This book disappointed me. It may be just my taste, but when I set out to read a romance, I expect the male and female to be interacting with each other. Also, the characters aren't very interesting or deep. Callie is so busy surviving that there isn't much else to her. Bryce is a one dimensional guy that we never learn much about. Indeed, the only character with any charm for me was the butler, Edward - a chess playing, closet romantic black gentleman.
If you like rags to riches sagas, there are better efforts out there (think Barbara Taylor Bradford) and if you want romance....

Cinders To Satin by Fern Michaels was released in 1983. A great historical romance of Callie an Irish girl going through life as an imigrant to America. Very sad in spots, but a fulfilling read. Lots of plot. Fans of Fern Michaels will like this the most.

I remember reading this book a long time ago, back in high school when I first started reading romance novels.... While browsing through the store.com, reading reviews and looking for a good book to buy, Cinders to Satin came to mind and so I had to look it up, curious to see if there were any reviews written about this wonderful novel. After reading some of the reviews, I had to write one of my own...
Cinders to Satin was and still is one of my all time favorite FM novels. After all these years, I can still vividly remember what the novel was about, proving that C2S has left a lasting impression. I loved the way the story began, how the heroine met the hero. The young hero saves a brash but brave little girl from being caught, and possibly hanged, for stealing food to feed her family (Ireland was going through a depression due to the potato plight). By pure chance, he sees her years later, and saves her a second time--this time from a fate far worse, a fate of exploitation and deceit. And he comes to her rescue again at the end, this time he saves her from herself. Don't get me wrong though, the heroine is anything but weak and fragile. She is bright and strong willed, but there is an innocence and naiveté about her that leaves her vulnerable. Callie grows up and goes through many hardship and tribulations.... But in the end, she discovers a love that has always been there, a true love that was lasting...
Cinders to Satin is a beautiful story of love lost and love found, hardship faced and happiness gained, of mistakes made and lessons learned. It is not the typical love story, but all the best elements of a true romance novel are there. Cinders to Satin is a truely unforgettable novel.

She had so many bad memories she wondered when the good memories would start. Leaving Ireland and all she knew was the first bad memory. Then death and destruction took over her life. The only good thing to happen to her was her savior and friend Brock. But wait, when did she finally fall in love? Good history of immigration to the land of golden streets.

Couldn't put this book down, such a good writer.

What a wonderful love story, and a little sad at times,
Especially when her baby died.
Then her friend came back in her life

They fell love, wouldn't tell each other UNTIL the very end.
Fern Michaels did a wonderful job with this book really all her books are good.
Very enjoyable Will get more of herbooks

I really enjoyed this book. The main character actually goes through a lot of difficulties in life & learns a lot of lessons along the way as opposed to being the rich heart broken girl character in most books. You should read!

I read this book when I was thirteen, and I LOVED it! I still do! I really think that this book should have been made into a movie. If you love historical fiction like I do, this is a GREAT read. It kind of reminds me of Angela's ashes.

I wouldn't read this book if I really wanted to read a romance novel. The story is nice but full of tragedy and too much description of everything. It's not a light reading kind. It left me with a heavy head. To get to the real romance part you got to reach till the 3rd part of the book.
