Very well written fast paced story line with very good character development. Several surprises tossed into the mix to totally redirect the plot just when you think you have it all figured out! Highly recommended!

The story caught your attention in the beginning and had potential but then the author spent the majority of the time describing the main character, which is basically the only character in the story; all other characters are mentioned but never developed and were hardly a part of the story. The story doesn't really have an ending, it basically just stops by posing a number of questions as if the author lost interest or just didn't know how to develop the ending.

Interesting character, oddly forced secondary characters (why is ex-partner upset about lawsuit?), fair plot. Worth the time and money. Feels a little like Spenser. Maybe Olivia Munn could be cast as lead?
A gripping thriller you won’t be able to put down :: Murder in the Locked Library (A Book Retreat Mystery) :: All Eyes on Me (A Miranda and Parker Mystery Book 1) :: A Private Investigator CLEAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE SERIES with more Twists and Turns than a Roller Coaster :: Free to Kill (Katie Freeman Mysteries Book 1)

Fighting the thin blue line while maintaining beliefs in once a cop always a cop sometimes causes conflicts between a new PI and former cop. Greed, rally driving skills and unrequited love life ensures a quality read.

Another free book - and I was pleasantly surprised! A really good read! Often, a free book, falls under the category of, "you get what you pay for", so I wasn't expecting much, but turned out to be a good book. I can heartily recommend this book!!!

A good read featuring California Corwin, an ex-cop who retired wealthy after suing her former San Francisco PD. Corwin, a PI now, solves the case of a kidnapped little girl and con-current theft of millions in high-end pharmaceuticals. Reasonable levels of violence … BUT… very limited romance.

California Corwin. Now that's a cool name. And Cal is cool...and tough and you'll like her. She's a little odd but she has her reasons, and her quirks make her interesting. I'll happily read the next book in the series.

Cal was an interesting character to say the least. She was smart and such a dare devil in her souped up car with wild car chases to chasing down leads on foot in the scary part of town. It wasn't the kind of book where I was on edge waiting to find out what happened next but a very well constructed book that kept me turning pages. I plan to purchase the next book in the series.

I like the heroine. She's smart, decisive and human. If I changed anything about her, she could treat her young colleague a bit better.

The plot has some interesting twists and turns. I was engaged and wanted to read straight through to the end.

Excellent story in the life of PI Cal. Fast paced and plot and story line moves forward in an interesting manner. Great cast of believable characters. Excellent conclusion leading to a desire for the next in the series.

Being a free ebook and having not read this author before, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Very solid writing and plot pacing with fairly fleshed out main characters. Nicely self contained storyline as well which seems to be becoming scarce in this age of self publication and race for multiple volume series keeping you holding your breath for the next fix...I mean installment.

Will definitely read this author again...and not just the freebies.

Very interesting characters mainly the lead one. Enjoyed reading about her location and house. The story ending was a little disappointing, wishing she continued on, hoping the next book contains some of this one.

The protagonist is unusual enough to keep me reading and the location, San Francisco and the country surrounding it, being one of my favorites, kept me rolling along in comfort. Good story as well and the driving was cool!

If you like detective novels then this one should delight you. A girl cursed obsessed with the name, California, uses all her wit and police experience to solve a crime, but gets asked out by criminals instead. A good,, fun read.

Well written and cohesive with a solid foundation and a good performance by the lead chracter. Good supporting cast of characters and believable sidebar moments. I will look forward to seeing more of this authors work.

Hated the foul language. Felt the inclusion of the mother unnecessary to the story and best left out. The main character just seemed a bit hard for a female. However, the mystery with all its twists and turns made your brain spin trying to keep up and figure it out. The ending was perfect!

I really like this author's style of writting. A really good story line with a kick butt P.I. , Cal Corwin. I got pulled into the story and did not want it to end, it was just that good. I am on to the next book in the series so you should start reading this one now and catch up. You won't regret it. Happy reading.

This was a pretty good book, but sometimes hard to follow. Cal is one more tough character and works as a PI. She gets in all kinds of circumstances in her line of work. I didn't totally agree with the ending of this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I thought the Asian Hispanic female protagonist was refreshing. An ex cop now PI, poker player, fast driver fairly no nonsense and only slightly love stricken, not your run of the mill female PI. Plot was good ending was sound with enough buy in to make me want to read the next book.

Well written with a great story. Sarcastic ex cop with a P.I. business gets hired to find a kidnapped little girl. Lots of twists and turns. I couldn't figure out the ending until the end. Very good.

Cal the PI is a complex character which adds dimensions to the quirky mysteries that she investigates. Toss in her Dad's ghost and her "hippie" high-maintenance Mom and her plate ' s full before it's started. Interesting easy read. Enjoy! ₩
