First off, this was a very enjoyable book. Top notch, great writing, only a few POV errors but altogether the prose was on point, there were no glaring plot holes, the characters were consistant and fleshed out, the world interesting. It was halarious, a really fun, light hearted read. The twist was great. Not entirely unexpected but the WAY in which it happened was very inventive. As a writer, I cant find much to fault it with, so this rating is more of a taste thing.
While overall the story was great and fun I had two issues that are relatively minor. The first is, I dont like sexual or lewd content in my books and right off the bat I got a pretty detailed description of a man's naked privates. It wasn't sexual, it was just gross. That is a matter of taste entirely.
The other is that there was so much played for laughs in the book, including some really hugely emotional stuff, that it was hard to take anything seriously. Which is fine, but I like a bit of emotional investment. So while it was an entertaining read and I'll probably eventually pick up more, it's just not one of those stories that stick with you. And it was easy for me to put down because I wasn't particularly invested in the characters because of the way everything was just laughed off without any variation.
Overall, it's a great diversion, fun and well written.

My heart misses Douglas Adams, but this book helps. The writing has the same witty snap, with enough tongue in cheek to keep your spirits up. Great read if you like your space fiction a bit on the silly side.

Cyborgs, She-wolves, and a space ship named The Shatner - what more could you want??!! This book (and the whole Space Team series by Barry J. Hutchison) is hilarious. Laugh out loud, snort your coffee hilarious. Well-developed characters. Quick wit. Fast moving story. And Toby Maguire as a spirit guide! If you love a good, humorous romp through a wacky universe or two, give this book a read. You will not be disappointed.

The relentless wise-assery from the main character might get a little annoying to some people, and the book is derivative, but the writing, pacing, characters, structure, and the mix of action, dialogue, narrative, and inner commentary, all work perfectly to deliver exactly what the author says he's written, a parody of the genre. It doesn't seem possible to write a parody of Guardians of the Galaxy, and yet, here it is, a parody of a parody. The book is also remarkably non-repetitive given the incredible body of snarkiness and sarcasm from the main character. As a straight on parody of Guardians, it works. It's not as good as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy but I found it very readable. Scifi, it is not, and real sci-fi fans will not find challenging brain teasers or engaging concepts of space and time. You don't want to analyze the logic, either. I read this on two weekend nights, and I didn't feel too guilty about it. If you like GotG, Family Guy, Futurama, and appreciate an author who can write a decent book, you'll enjoy it.

Very funny, first time I have read this author, and I must say he does get one involved in the characters lives. I have now read and bought the whole series, kindle version, and was sad to get to the last page of the currently last book in the series. This is one series for a change I am hopeful the author continues.

I thought this book looked like a nice, stupid, over the top comedy piece of fluff that would keep me entertained between gigs and maybe help me in my detox process from that Shizzy job I just left to begin freelancing. Hutchison totally roped me in. it was a total literary Rope-A-Dope. There I was thinking "aw this piece of silly fluff will just go in one eye and out the other. I can waste a bit of time, enjoy some cheap laughs and forget about it." - not quite - I found myself actually caring about these characters! I realized the only stupid lines were intended to be stupid lines to further develop character, plot or just a good belly laugh when tension was a bit much. Thank you, Barry. You have a new fan.

After reading a very good but heavy book I wanted something light and fun. This book was perfect. It was fun, funny, and I didn't want to stop reading it. I will definitely read the others in the series.

As advertised I smiled and laughed genuinely! I think it was funny that the Aliens micro translater changes swears to funny words! I didn’t expect such a twist in the plot either, never saw it coming at the end of the Adventure with our new Space Team! Excited to find out what their travels will entail as they sail along the Stars in Symposium space.. where they are allowed lol or not because often the impossible is possible and the unlikely seems to work out in the best way. I love Splurt too!

There are so many space hijinks & shenanigans going on in these books that to try and describe them is a far more daunting task than I am willing to take on. I'll just say that I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud repeatedly while reading and I devoured this series faster than a jumbo bucket of buttered movie theater popcorn before the coming attractions trailers have finished rolling.

I really enjoyed reading this book and could absolutely picture the movie version in my mind (Ryan Reynolds playing Cal Carver). It’s light enough for anyone to enjoy and the story line kept me turning the pages. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Oddly enough, the thing I like about this book the most is that it is NOT "unputdownable". I didn't keep saying "one more chapter" and stay up all night. It was also not a book that would be put down and forgotten. Will probably read book 2.

Story had a good start, but couldn't follow through. The idea was interesting, a conman imprisoned by earth justice was kidnapped by a space government/corporation to perform a dangerous secret mission. He is accompanied by several other misfit/convicts from other worlds. After the start, it gets more difficult. The group breaking the conman out released a biological warfare vermin that destroyed the Earth by mistake, ha ha, too bad. The humor is very forced and juvenile. The story is good, but broken by attempts at humor that disrupt the flow of the story. Edit out some of the humor and improve the overall book.

Loved it! Especially the translator chip! Such creative and witty dialogue among the characters, plot twists that never stopped, and a cliffhanger that left me wanting to read the next installment right away!
