I enjoy reading books about the Amish way of life and I also enjoy mysteries. I found this series of books to be a great combination of both of these. I thought it was well written and very suspenseful. I intend to read more books by this author.

A good thriller, mystery. Well written with the added twist of an Amish community setting. This gives a bit of background into the Amish and their ways from viewpoint of one who was raised Amish but opted for secular world and is now a female chief of police in this small town. Enjoyable and with enough twists and turns to keep you on edge of your seat.

Enjoyed this book. My first Burkholder book but not the last. I did not expect the intense and complex parallels between the victim and the Chief. Could not stop reading until I found out why. Worth the time spent reading it.

Excellent plot and a well-written text add to the pleasure of reading this Kate Burkholder mystery/thriller. A glimpse of Amish life and customs is an extra plus. For Kindle readers who appreciate a good read, bolstered by accurate grammar and an extended vocabulary.

Every book that this woman has written is fantastic. I can't stop reading the book until it's finished.
I would buy any book she writes referring to Amish, etc.
I read all of these books in a week and have been lonesome since.
Please let me know when any new books are out.

Thank you.

I had picked up "Sworn to Silence" to carry along on a recent trip. I enjoyed the author's style and character development so much that I decided to follow up with "Pray for Silence". I would recommend this author/title to anyone who likes a fast-paced read that has enough twists to hold your interest until the very last page.

This is a great series, the author has an incredible talent for characters. Twisting the storyline in ways you wouldn't expect and pulling you deeper and deeper into the amish culture and it's secrets. It's a twist on the classic mystery novels, teaching you a bit about a culture so many know so little about.

Generally not fond of crime novels. However, Pray for Silence has excellent characters struggling with their own horrors as they deal with a horrendous crime. Excellent read and thoroughly enjoyable.

I enjoyed the first book, "Sworn To Silence" so much that I could hardly wait to start this one! I download it right away and can hardly put it down. I know I will end up reading the entire series. Great thrillers set in Ohio Amish Country.

This story grabbed me in the very first page. Set in an Amish County a deputy stumbles across murder of an entire Amish family. The woman police chief and her officers dig into solving this murder while trying to figure out the grizzly crime scene. For mystery fans, this is very compelling and a book hard to put down.

I echo what was written earlier that Pray for Silence was a quick read and I got the slightest feeling that her publishers might have pushed for a quick follow up to Castillo's first Burkholder novel. Nevertheless, Silence is a strong second effort. I still find it shocking how detailed she gets with the graphic non-consensual sex and violence but it fits the story. It will be interesting to see if the small town of Painters Mill continues to see once in a hundred year spates of violence in her next Burkholder novel.
