I read this one before but after reading "It Happened One Autumn" I had to repurchase and read again. Even though Evie was not well developed, Sebastian was a character on a mission. He turns around awfully fast in this book.

One of our wallflowers, Evie goes unescorted to the house of member of the peerage who had kidnapped
her friend, Lillian, one of the wallflowers. If you are reading the books in order, you will realize
that for her character to do something like this was highly improbable. Of the four, this is my second
favorite.

Evie goes to St. Vincent to propose marriage. Money is his motivation, safety is hers. But a trip to Gretna Green and a return to a gaming hall bring an amazing change to a man who had no hope for love and a purpose in life.

I have read this series multiple times because I just love all the characters and although Secrets of a Summer Night will always be a favorite (possibly because it was the first read) TDIW is so captivating and I just adore this book. I was drawn in throughout the entire book and never wanted to put it down.

Lord St. Vincent was everything proper young ladies avoided. Handsome as sin, a minute with him would ruin any lady's good name. That is until Evie enters the picture. I loved the way this story developed and how St. Vincent went from rake to besotted husband. Evie is his total opposite but it was total fun watching St. Vincent fall!

I loved the Wallflower series. This is about Evie. All of these stories are great. Period pieces so you can see how life was way back then!! I love these stories and to see how they lived and how they were forced to life by families, traditions, etc. Great story and a great read. I highly recommend it.

This is my favourite so far in the Wallflower series. Evie was so shy and had a stutter but there always seemed to be so much more to her. When she approaches a know rake who had kidnapped her friend another side of Evie appears.
Wonderfully written. I loved the characters and the story was full of tension. A really good read.

While not my favorite of the Wallflower series, this is in my top 2. I adore how these two people take a bad situation and make the most of it. By being honest with each other from the start there are so many fewer misunderstandings that seem to pop up in romance novels like weeds. I enjoyed reading a book about two adults who find a love with each other that is surprising and lovely.

Great Story!
I truly enjoyed this story. The story line was easy to follow and the author makes her readers feel the conflict and emotions her characters go through. One of the main characters the wicked and notorious rake and the other main character a total opposite of himself. Two desperate people find each other and to their surprise fall in love.

This one threw me after reading the first two books. I thought the shyest Wallflower would choose another man, but maybe in the end, she got the right match for herself. She went after what she wanted (subconsciously?) and she got it. More power to women everywhere who are "Wallflowers" now, but whose time to shine will come...

Thought it was ok. By the posted ratings I thought it was the next coming of Laura Kinsales Flowers from the Storm. If I had read it before FFTS I might have a better opinion of Devil in Winter. I didn't think it was particularly memorable.

I love this particular book in the series. I can identify with Evie having been a wallflower myself. Again, well written and great humor with the right amount of action/adventure. Plus an intro to Cam Rohan, who we get to know better in the Hathaway series.

These books are sweet, romantic, and of course sexy! I haven't gotten tired of reading about these ladies and the scoundrels they love. The best part is being able to follow up with the characters from the previous books in the series. I'm going to be sad when it's over. Can we please have the bowman twins' story too???

The characters all have such depth you feel as if they are real people. All the books have very different main characters and very different taste in men. I love how the story continues where most novels would end. I like that little extra plot as well as the glimpse into the future at the very end.

IMPRESSIONS:
This story had SUCH potential and I was really looking forward to reading it after having read the second Wallflower story, It Happened One Autumn (The Wallflowers, Book 2). I mean what more could you want: the horrible Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent, who is unashamedly sensual and unremorseful, Evie Jenner, a sweet, stammering wallflower who you just KNOW is going to get him whipped, and Lisa Kleypas writing the story! I was litterally sitting on the edge of my seat. But so many times I felt that the story fell a little short; when she could have made a scene a real killer it just didn't have that usual hit quality that she normally always delivers. One example is the ring that is put on the necklace, it could have been discovered in a much better way by Evie or the delivery could have been better. Another thing which bothered me was that Sebastian seemed to transform so quickly, if he did transform that quickly I would have liked him to maybe be more in denial about it or just to have him be a little meaner for a little longer (as horrible as that sounds). Nonetheless, it must be said, that the story is still fun to read and I still have to say: You can't go wrong with a Kleypas.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
If you like Kleypas (and really, how can you NOT?) then read and enjoy, but don't expect it to be as good as some of her best ones, such as Dreaming of You (one of my favorites), Where Dreams Begin (so great!), Worth Any Price (Bow Street, Book 3) (amazing!), and I could go on and on. However, if this is your first time reading Kleypas, know that she has even better ones out there, so keep on reading!
UPDATE (1/13/2008):
I've read this book a few times again - I reread a lot of my historical romances and all of my Lisa Kleypas ones - and when compared with many of the new authors and books I've read recently, I wish I could change this to a four star review. Although it wasn't Kleypas's best, compared to other authors in the genre she really is an amazing writer and storyteller. I still agree with the criticisms I made above, but The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers, Book 3) definitely doesn't deserve only three stars.

Really like Kleypas writing. Someone wrote about her including alpha males. Oh yes they are, but the women are not exactly true wallflowers. I mean that as a compliment. They would all be great friends to have...the men and the women.

This is seriously one of my favorite romance novels I've ever read. You won't be disappointed!! The setting is very exciting with a thrilling plot and characters that are actually realistic (unlike many romance novels that tend to all be alike..). You'll fall in love with both Evie and Sebastian!

**Spoiler Alert**
Oh I was thrilled to see St. Vincent as the hero in this one, as in Book 2 he just sizzled!! And he did not disappoint here. This book is just fabulous, and Ms. Kleypas builds the sexual tension beautifully. And who knew Evie had such moxie!!
I only have two small cons for this one. I don't mind heroes getting injured, but the gory details in this one made me nauseated and I felt they did not belong in a romance. The only other con is that at the very end, while she's sipping wine, one of the Wallflowers announces her pregnancy. I guess that was done, drinking wine while pregnant, back in those days, but these days it's rather not done. This could be easily remedied by having her drink some tea instead. Just made me a bit uncomfortable.
But all in all, just a super exciting and sensual book. Loved.it.

Wonderful and so surprising! I think this is my favorite one so far, because it is so full of surprises. I think the total time spent reading this was under 8 hours. Yes, it is that good. No problems in getting it, the appearance is great. I am so glad I picked up a Lisa book one day....

Bravo Bravo Bravo!!! Who would have guessed that the 3rd book in the Wallflower series would start and end like this. Sweet, Shy, Evie masters and conquers the beasty Viscount St. Vincent who was the villian in book 2 It Happen One Autumn!! SHE TAMES HIM!!! WHAT A WONDERFUL BOOK VERY SENSUAL AND ROMANTIC. WITH LOTS OF ADVENTURES!!! A MUST READ!

I love characters like Lord St. Vincent in books, but I really wondered how he would work with Evie. She turned out to be a strong and bold female character despite her fragile form. The way she softens him just enough makes for a believable love story.

After reading Devil in Spring, which I adored, I had to go back and read this one. Spring starts with Sebastian and Evie and I had to know their story, because they are such a wonderful presence in Spring. Well their story is just as wonderful!
Poor Sebastian has cultivated his image as a rake, a scoundrel, a libertine. Seriously, the way he talks and acts you can imagine women drop their panties at one look from him. Evie is a wallflower with a stubborn streak a mile wild and is not impressed by Sebastian, and he doesn't know what to do with that, or how he himself is changing.
These two are great together and it's them against the world. They don't weaver in their believe in each other, even when they struggle to believe in themselves. Read this, read Spring!

Book three in the Wallflowers series is the first one of the series I read. I thought it was well written and sort of confused as to the story of the wallflowers. So I had to read book one and two to get the jest of who these women were and what they wanted to accomplish. Once I read them, I now realize what they wanted and who they were. This novel involves a red headed, shy young lady that stutters when she gets nervous.
The third wallflower wasn't looking for marriage but a way out from being tortured by her mother's relations and punished without food, water and being locked up for weeks at a time. They only wanted her inheritance from her father's gambling hall and he was dieing. So once she was free, she proposed marriage to a rake by the name of Lord Sebastian St. Vincent. Since he was being cut off from his father's funds, he was desperate for money, so he was happy to marry her so they headed to Greta Green.
She then takes care of her father till he passes away and Sebastian takes care of his funeral, the gambling hall and brings it back to better standards. He protects her and eventually they find love! I love the way the novel ends and the whole scenario plays out!

This is by far, my FAVORITE book by Lisa Kleypas. I could read it over and over again. Sebastian is a rogue of the first order, but his love of Evie tames him into a hero. If you haven't read Lisa Kleypas before, this is a good place to start - even though it is book 3 in the Wallflowers series.

A very gentle and enjoyable read with characters that you'd want to root for through-out. Some really funny scenes and of course, 6-months is impossible.
I would have liked to get more background story from Sebastian though.
