Wild Magic is the first Immortals book in the seires.A threeteen
year old named Daine was hired a job by Onua to help take a herd
of ponies to Tortall. This book was recommened to me by my best
friend.Once I got it the book pulled me into the storie.I felt
I was Daine not me anymore.I didn't think that it would have so many monsters in it,like Griffens and Stormwings. And Numair, when
they talked about he I didn't think he was the most powerful mage I was as suprised as Daine.Numair teaches her to heal her friends, the animals and she talks to them to.I'm not going to tell everything so you shuld read it.You Will Love It.

Tamora Pierce, the greatest author of all time, has written another miracle. No mere words can express my heartfelt praise: funny, thoughtful, top-of-the-line, number one, At . . . how about it's just, plain wonderful? Daine, a girl blessed with the unique ability to speak with animals, is hired by Onua, the woman that manages the Rider's ponies. The story weaves together danger, adventure, humor, and love in perfect unison. It also touches on the subject of finding your true self, which I thought was brilliant.
I have read Wild Magic, cover to cover more times than I can possibly count. It's perfectly suited to all ages groups. Fifth graders read it and think it's cool the way a girl can talk to animals, whereas high school students may read it and relate to the loyalty, bravery, and compassion of all the characters. If you're going to read one book in your entire life, make this one it. It's a journey unlike any other you have ever encountered. My copy is ragged and torn, but I look upon it like an old friend. I am an extremely avid reader, and out of all the books i've read, i have yet to see one come even close to ranking with Wild Magic. READ THIS BOOK!

When I read this book I thought, ok another Harry Potter wanna-be. But this book is amazing! I have read it six times and it still amazes me. The emotions just grab you and take you for a ride. The details are so wonderful they play a movie in your head! This book left me thinking about it for a week. Once you get started you just can't put it down. It's truly a wonderful book.

This is book is the first of my favorite series of all time. The story is about an orphaned girl named Daine. With the help of the very sexy mage Numair, Daine discovers and cultivates her rare magic. Wild Magic is a wonderful book for young adults, and adults alike.

Those who love Magic, Animals, Romance, action, and overall, entertaining and absorbing books, will NOT pass this quartet by!

Though I first read these books in eigth grade (4 years ago), I am still as passionate about them as i ever have been. Tamora Pierce is a talented writer. her female heroines act upon their common sense, their humility, and they deal with common issues. They are not comic strip action heroines, but they are real people who need guidance just as much as we do.

I recomend reading the Song of the Lioness as well.

I read this book when I was is in about 5th or 6th grade. I have a problem when it comes to rereading books: I can't. This book is the exception to that rule. I've read this book about 5 times. If I was going to be stuck on a deserted island with one book, I would choose this book.
The book is about a girl, Daine, who has the ability to talk to animals. She at first thinks its just a "knack" with animals, not magic. But, boy, is she wrong! Wild Magic starts out at a fair in Galla, a country in Mrs. Pierce's amazing world of Tortall. You start out by meeting Onua, a horse trader who works for the Tortallen king, who is look for a new assistant to help her with the horses. Along comes Daine. Now, this is just the begining of the book! I would suggest this book to any person who likes women in charge.

Tamora Pierce has a reputation for writing one of the best fantasy books in the world. From the beginning I was leaning on my seat. For all you fantasy freaks that get bored because you can't sit down and feel like this world that you are reading about is so cheesy. Well you don't have to look no farther. In this wildly enchanted book a teenage girl is looking for a job. A magical witch finds her and asks if she would like to work for her. When they go to a kingdom the witch finds out she has something known as wild magic. The teenager can speak and control animals. When danger strikes from another land she must muster up enough strength to summon a sea creature or will it summon her first... to find out read Wild Magic by: Tamora Pierce trust me it's a ride you'll never forget.

This book is a book I could read over and over again, in fact I have already read it three times. I have read all the other books and they are as good as the first. I have read most of Tamora Pierce's books, they are all as good as the Wild Magic. Her books are books that I will love and remember always. I don't think I will look at other books of kings and nights the same way again. Her's are the best.

If you love books of magic you'll like this book. The story is simple but fun. You won't be taken down any tragic paths. The book is intended for teenagers, and I think its a good book for them. I didn't give the book five stars because the plot is relatively simple, but I love the magic, so I recommend this book to magic fantasy lovers who don't want an emotional roller coaster ride but just want to be entertained with some good fantasy.

I first read this book when I was in middle school many years ago, but recently wanted a trip down memory lane. It was just as good, if not much better, than what I remembered. Pierce's writing is concise and well-written; she doesn't have to go on tangents like many of today's writers to engross the reader in her world. The Immortals series was, and still is, one of my favorite book series. I recommended it for all ages and anyone looking to immerse themselves in a little magic and a lot of enjoyment.

Even now, at age 13, riffling through the well worn pages of my beloved Immortals series, I wonder how it is humanly possible to write books so amazing. I've always loved fantasy, and Tamora Pierce is my favorite author, and always has been. This entire series is a must read for any fantasy nut. It's just like a good smoothie - the perfect blend of everything. Humor, adventure, a touch of romance and a whole lot of enchantment, I consider the Wild magic story one of Ms.Pierce's finest. The young girl Daine, who has the wonderful gift of animal speech, and even shape shifting, starts out as a sad orphan who's lost her family. It was wonderfull to "watch" her slowly heal, and discover herself shinig through her past. But I really felt myself connect with all the characters, and I consider that one of the most important things about novels. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a good fantasy.

Tamora Pierce is one of my all time favorite authors who could only improve upon her writing skills by turning out her books a bit faster. This book like most of her books has wonderful characterization and story line. The world she creates is intriguing and everyone in it seems real and fascinating.

I love this series! I started reading about Tortall when I was 14 and now at 30 still love it! The Immortals series is easily my favorite of them. You get to see Alanna after she picks the path she has chosen. You meet new characters and have so much more imagination! I love that she can talk to the.... I have read the series like 8 times and never get board from it!

I love a good fantasy, and that's just what I got here. The story flows very smooth, and the characters are colorful, developed people that you learn about and come to know as the story goes on. It is rare that you stumble upon wrting this good, and I wish I could explain how good it is here. But, I can't. Go ahead and give this book, and this series, a try - you won't regret it!!

This story attaches you to the rest of the books. Once you open the book you don't want to stop reading. Like all books that are first in a series, this book tells you about the people,
and the places. The Magic in the book is just as amasing as the detail and description. As soon as you stat reading you won't want to stop!

Thank you. Now, to the book. You absolutly have to read this book! It totally rocks! I love the way Tamora Pierce gets the characters personalaties fit together and clash so wonderfully. Take my word for it, this book is worth TWICE your money. I've been reading chapter books since I was in Kindergarden, and I can read 130 some page books in 1 and a half hours, so I've read over 200 books in the past 6 or so years. This is one of the best books I've ever read! I say read all of Tamora Pierce's books. You can relate to the main charcaters at a lot of points in the book. Wonderful read, in short.

Diane. Just an ordinary girl. Right? Wrong! Diane has a special gift that helps her speak to animals through her mind. She has no idea until she meets up with a horse trainer that has the gift. She then figures out about her special powers and decides to help at the castle where her new found friend comes from. Here she helps trainies learn to ride and care for horses. This is all I can tell you without giving away the rest of the story. I thought it was OK but I have read better.

In Wild Magic, Daine moves past her troubled past and joins Onua, a new friend, on adventures near and far. She has magical conversations with scores of animal friends and makes some human friends like a mage and a princess on the way. It is a book to get lost in. I couldn't put it down! I definately recommend it.

I read this book with a grin on my face, utterly charmed. It is everything I could have wanted to read when I was 14, but with the added benefit of good prose, good characterization, honest emotion and all the other things it takes to satisfy a 38-year-old me. I shall be getting all the other books in this series!

I've pretty much enjoyed the other series set in this setting, but this one just annoyed me. this is my second attempt at this one & I'll just say it: It's not good.

Uninspired set up, dull protagonist, insipid purple prose: There is pretty much nothing redeemable in this character, nor the characters around here. Where all of her other characters have a clear story arc with some personal failing to overcome, this character has none of that.

I've been a fan of Tamora for a while, ever since I read her White tiger mini, which now graces my TPB library, but this was the weakest book I've ever read from her. It really is a shame, but I suppose even great writers have off days.

I thought this book was really awesome!!! it was great for anyone who loves fantasy or any one who wishes they could talk to animals.I also liked that it was fast pacd and complicated. there were a lot of things going on at once so you never got bored. there was one thing I didn't like about it and that was it had references to many Gods that I knew wren't true but that wasn't to distracting to the reader so it was still really great book!

An orphaned, outcast girl named Daine has alway had a knack with animals. She is hired on by a horse mistress for the Queen's Riders to help take a herd of ponies over the border to Tortall. Taken to the palace, she meets a mage named Numair who teaches her that her "knack with animals" is really Wild Magic, which makes Daine capable of comunicating with and even taking the form of animals. But now Tortall is threatened by war from Carthak and Daine may be the only hope to saving her country.

I picked this book out just by looking at the cover. I know you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I love books involving animals and this just seemed like "that kind of book". I started reading it and quickly fell in love with all the characters. The unusually fast reader I am, it actually took me a long time to read this book because I didn't want to skip a word! I have read many books, but I have never anything as great as this. I stayed up till 2 on a school night just to finish. As soon as you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. And then, you still have 3 more to go!

In this book Daine finds Wild Magic inside herself. She always knew she had a knack with animals, especially after her experience with a wolf pack. When she meets the horserider Onua a true adventure unfolds. Daine is pulled into the life of a Rider, and she undergoes everything that they do. Daine also begins training her Wild Magic with one of the greatest mages of all the mortal realms.
Wait, I'm spoiling the whole story for you. I CAN tell you that if you like this book as much as I do, you will leave any bookstore crying if there aren't any Tamora Pierce books there. Here are three words of advice that can change your life and maybe make you a better person.

This quartet was what got me hooked on Tamora's fascinating books. I won't repeat a summary of the book because others have already done so. But these books, while set in a world different from ours, you can see paralells and hints that make you go, "Oh, those people are like people from...." and place them and their customs in a location in our own world, which makes the story all the more realistic. Magic, communing with animals and mystical beasts, and an easy read plus a storyline that even adults will find enjoyable (heck I'm an adult myself and I enjoy it). Definitely check it out!

I was introduced to Mrs. Pierces work 3 years ago. This has been my favorite book ever since. Anyone who enjoys reading fantasy books or books about animals will love this. The book is filled with thrilling adventure, however, it is still an in depth look into the personality of all the characters. Mrs. Pierce also adds bits of humor to lighten the mood of the story. The characters are great! Each has their own talent or magic power. Daine and Numair, the heroine and her teacher are an unstoppable team. I have read this book many times, as well as the other three books of the immortals series. Adults and children alike will enjoy this book. If you do not purchase it, you will be missing out on so much.

This book is THE BEST (I've read so far). I've only just started to read Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, and I'm dying for more of her books. I've only read Wild Magic and Alanna The First Adventure. As for Wild Magic Daine is a girl who does not know what is hidden inside her, Wild Magic."You must be more advanced in your Wild Magic before the storm comes" says the mysteirsy bader that comes into her dreams once in a while. So as you see the storm is a army that want's the crown (I think)so Daine and her freinds must stop this army before it's to late all the rest is said above. Oh, and I'm glad Tamorice Pierce is around to write these books from elinor jeanne cripps

The whole reason I started reading the Immortal series is because I had just finished The Song of the Lioness Quartet and I wanted to get more of Alanna in any book i could. I like this book and Daine is a good written character. In a way she also reminds me of a calmer, animal lover Alanna. I definately think Tamora Peirce should write more Alanna books. After I read the last book in the Alanna series I wanted to see how her new life was going. I really dont like how she wrote Alanna's character in this book. I also didnt like how it took place 9 years after Thayet became Queen..it got hard for me to picture all the old characters from the Alanna series. I was sad they had all grown up but Daine brings back some youthfulness

It's nice to get back to the world of Tortall. Although there is a battle in this book, reading it is a peaceful experience. Perhaps too much goes well for it to be realistic (though thinking back now, there is a price someone pays in the battle), but sometimes its nice to escape from reality for a while with something that lifts you up and makes you happier.

Tamora has definately taken a new twist into her writing. Alianne is struggling with the believeable problem of trying to step away from her mother's(Alanna, the Lioness)expectations and dreams, trying to find her own nich. Alianne's story is complete with snappy dilauge and strange problems that would not be a Tamora Pierce book without them. A new novle for a new centary.

I am only 11 and when I read Wild Magic, I was probably 9. Wild Magic was the first Tamora Peirce book I read and now, I have just finished The Circle of Magic series. I have already read the Lioness Quartet and what is out for the Portector of the Small. This book is exactly what I was looking for, it has adventure, a little romance, mystery, magic and every thing else. Daine is a wonderful main character with all the troubles and is actually realistic. All the other books like Wild Magic I have read are all cheesy with un-realistic main characters but Wild Magic really makes you belive in magic.

This book is probably my favorite of all the Tamora Pierce books. The plot is one of which grabs the reader's attention from the first chapter. I enjoyed hearing about Daine, Numair, and Onua's travels and adventures and when I finished the book I immediately got the next one. I really like reading books about magic, and if you do too, this is the series for you! I also liked how I got to read a little more about Alanna from Tamora's earlier series, Song of the Lioness.

Just finished "Wild Magic," and I'm not thrilled. It's okay, and I really enjoyed reading about Daine's finding a family after a hard past, but there's no clarity to the plot brewing behind Daine's training until the last two chapters of the novel, and there's very little clarity. The bronze threads, the "seeing" inside of animals when she heals people, the badger (though I'm sure that will be explained later on,) her death and revival, and many other aspects were very vague and confusing, and I'm left wanting to read a little more, but not three more books.
People seem to rave about Tamora Pierce as one of the best authors ever. I guess her work is just not for me.
In short, don't trust a majority opinion; read for yourself before you judge. You may be surprised. You may love her work, or not, but I don't think many people can argue that the ideas were really good; it was just how she presented them that is left to judge.

The characters of "Wild Magic" are very likeable people (the good guys, that is!) especially Daine and her friend, Miri. I had wanted to find out more about Alanna after I read the "Song of the Lioness" series. She is in this series, to my delight, though all grown up with children of her own. Daine's love for animals is something I can relate to, so this was really appealing to me. The only thing I didn't care for was the fact that Daine spends more time with adults like Alanna, Onua, and Numair rather than people her age, like Evin and Miri. All in all, a good beginning of a series.

Wild Magic is probably my all time favorite in the Immortals series. The story starts out with the main character, Daine, looking for work with animals because her whole family has died. She gets a job taking horses for the queen down to the capital city because she has a "knack" with animals, but that "knack" turns out to be one of the best things that has ever happened to her.

In the first book of the Immortals sreies, Daine becomes
the assistant of Onua, the Horsemistress of the Queen's Riders. Daine has a gift with animals, but when she rescues a crow who turns out to be the mage Numair, she finds that her gift is really wild magic. With Numair to teach her, Daine lears to control her magic and use it well. But there is a secret from Daine's past that makes Daine afraid of her magic and what she can do. This is an excellant book, with well-developed characters and a fast-paced, exciting plot. I recomend it to anyone.

It's a wonderful story about a girl named Daine who's knack with animals gets her a job with Onua, Horsemistress of the Queen's Riders. As the story goes on, a mage named Numair relizes that her 'knack with animals' is really wild magic.
This is a GREAT story! I suggest it to anyone who likes fantasy. I also suggest reading the Song of the Lioness quartet before reading this because it will give you some background.
Enjoy!!!

It's a great book overall, but a 4-star. I loved it but it needed more action to hold my interest. The "training," part of the novel went on too long and bogged it down some.

I loved all the mythological creatures. The main character's communication with every day animals was cool too. The descriptions in the book were good.

The book, Wolf-Speaker is an awsome book. There are some really great parts involing; wolves, dragons, basilisks, stormwing, hurroks, and more. If you like myth, animals and adventure, this is your type of book. You will never want to put it down. The story is about young Daine learning how to use her magic and helping humans, immortals and animals of all sorts. If you have read The Song Of The Lioness series, this will suit you also. It even has a little of Alanna and Roald in it! Well this is a great book and I say you should try it. From, Kitten The Dragon

This book is one of the best books I have ever read! You can't put it down until you have finished it, and when you do, you want to know more about what happens to Daine. Don't even hesitate to read this book.

This is one of the best books in the Immortals series!
Daine is just a common born child that has had here village destroyed and here family killed by bandits. The book starts out when Daine goes to Cria, Galla's capital, with her horse and meets a horse trade named Onua, she gets a job as Onus's assistent. As they are on their way to Chorus, the capital of Tortall, they come across strange Immortals that are just wrong looking, and have been sealed in the realm of the gods for centuries, but have mysteriously been broken!
I highly recomend this book it's one of my faorites in the Immortals series. It's so good you'll never get tired of reading it.

This story makes you wish you were there! I loved the plot, and the essence of magic in this tale. The mystical monsters and kind animals, along with the people, will leave a lasting impression on you.

Wild Magic is the first in the immortals quartet, which is a truly magical tale of a young girl with an amazing talent that enables her to talk to animals.
As Daine explores her newfound talent she opens up a world in which I find a place I can escape to when real life gets to hard. I have read the immortals quartet many, many times and still find it enthralling. Any fantasy admirer will love this book!

WILD MAGIC by Tamora Pierce was a spectacular book. The vivid and memorable characters were fully developed, allowing the readers to unintentionally analyze them. The conflicts transcended the time and setting for the readers to emphasize with, the vocabulary was moderate, and the plot was as entertaining as it was smooth. A book that cacthes your attention from the first page, it is great for students, and has been noticed to cause addictiveness from elementary school to middle school. This truly was a spectacular book.

This book is awesome! It will grab you right away! It kinda' lost my interest towards the middle but toward the end I couldn't put it down. I never knew I could read 3 pages per minute!! Anyhow I HIGHLY suggest this book to fantasy lovers. I'll give you a good tip, when you order this book order it with the rest of the series so you don't have to wait for the rest of the books to come after you finish the first one. This was the first book I have read by Tamora Pierce and will not be the last!!!

I've never read anything like this before what a great format and story line that made you feel as if you are actually there like a book should be. I would recamend this book to any one who loves being absorbed into a book and whant to finish with the other books as soon as they can get a hold on them. And wanting more to read and to absorb and to learn some things that we can actually do on our own while still learning and reading. another great book it reminds me of even though it was somewhat borring is THE LAST OF THE REALLY GREAT WANGDOODLE witch works about the same as the immortals searies. gota have more more more.

This book was so cool! Mom knows I like fanasty, so she bought this book from the store. I had never read anything by Pierce, before, and now she is my favorite author and I've read all her books. The book was action-packed, and stood out from all the books I've read. Daine was so real, I felt like she was my best friend. Daine, a girl with wild magic, travels to Tortall. There she meets Numair, who helps her control her magic. She learns control, and ends up helping in a big battle. And one more thing: read this book! You won't regret it!

This is a wonderful book!!! It is about a girl with magical power with animals. She can speak to them and they can speak back. I think that this has been a dream of many different people. It's also about the triumph of the human spirit. I don't want to give anything away, but the main character is suffering from a past tradegy. While Daine recovers and discovers her newfound home is being besieged by unimaginable monsters. A truly wonderful action-packed book. (if you liked this one, you will love the other three)

This book is awesome! I was at the library when I saw it, and I heard of the Alanna series so I picked it up. It is awesome. When I read Alanna, I got a little tired of the Gift, and I felt sorry for people without it. But now there's a new form of magic, and it's probably even cooler that the Gift! I really really recommend this book.

I love this book, series, and characters. Anyone who loves realistic, strong characters (especially women) will enjoy this series, or any by Tamora Pierce. Well written, while not incredibly complex, and completely enjoyable.

From the moment I picked up this book to the moment it ended, i could not put this book down. That was in fourth grade, and I am about to enter eighth, and i still feel the same way every time I read it, which is about once a month. It's still as exciting and wonderful as the first time that I read it, four years ago. Since then, I have read many examples of "fine literature", but none have the same unique blend of Animals, Magic, Suspense, Romance, and overall life and its wonders and problems.

Out of all the Tamora Pierce books I've read (the Immortals series, the Song of the Lioness quartet, and the Circle of magic books), this was my favorite. In real life I would rate this book as a 100% success. I absoulutely loved it. I am always looking for magic, but now I honestly think I've found it in between the pages of Wild Magic. I wish that I could meet Tamora Pierce because she must be such a creative, magical person to be able to write books like these. Thanx Tamora!

I got this book for Chrismas and didn't think much of it. Two or three months after when we went to the beach I brought it along just in case I got bored. I read a hundred or so pages a day! My grand parents came from Autralia and brought my the next three books and I can't keep my nose out of them. I manly like this book because it is set in the past, it's a fartasy story and it has a little bit of every thing!

This book gets infintiy with the star rating. I have read Wild Magic about three million times and never tire of it. I love it so much and can't wait to read it again. I couldn't put it down-literally. After I finished this book I went out and bought the next three in the series. If they were half as good as Wwild Magic I knew they would still be great. Read this book or else you are missng out on a great peice of literature.

Tamora Pierce's book, Wild Magic, was great. A girl, Verlidaine Sarrasi (known as Daine) discovers that her bond with animals is more than a knack, it is Wild Magic. With the help of her friend, one of the greatest sorcerers in the land, she learns to understand her magic, and to heal her best friends, animals. Wild Magic is really hard to set down, so be prepared for hours of reading if you buy this!

Saddened by the loss of her family and worried by the following madness, a young girl starts her life anew when she travels to Tortall.

In text simple enough to be read by a child and with characters that adults will love, Pierce really brings this story alive. I really loved this tale, which touched my heart like only good authors can do. I'd recommend this book for everyone, no matter the age, and I hope all can feel this book like I did

Well we all know that it was the best book ever and i was kinda mad when i read it and it stopped all the sudden. I read Wild magic, Wolf Speaker, The Emperer Mage, and The Realms of the Gods. But out of all the books Wild magic is the best because it introduced more characters and thats what I like most. But I got sad when I read all the books to find out that when the best part begins the books end. And I hope you all like the book!

I loved this book. In my opinion, it is by far one of the best books tamora has ever written. Great plot, and it even featured some characters from the lioness quartet. I first got this book for my birthday and when I started it I couldn't put it down. As soon as I could I went over to the nearest bookstore and bought the rest of the books in the series. If you like fantasy you'll love Wild Magic.

I loved this book! It is one of my absolute favorite Tamora Pierce books, and I've read them all (except the three newest ones). It is a great start to a great quartet. Daine, Onua, Numair, Alanna, and all the other characters are shown with such detail, you think they wrote this book themselves. Which they did, in a way. If you loved The Song of the Lioness Quartet, you'll love this book (and the ones after it).

It is the best series that Tamora Pierce wrote. Far more interesting than the Song of the Lioness series. But maybe that is just me. The story takes place in a far away land named Tortal. A young girl, Daine, and her pony, Cloud, set out for a new start. They meet some interesting characters and have a great time with new friends. This is an adventure you do not want to miss.

Okay, I'm probably going to end up being lynched by Pierce's legions of devoted fans for this, but... I can't stand her books. They're fine if you like honest, trust worthy, modest characters, but for people like me (and there are few) they're too nice. Quite frankly, I'm just too cynical and sarcastic to find it nice that nobles, and the King and Queen, go around acting like 'common people'. And every one's too nice. The bad guys are just plain bad, the good guys kind and resonable. "My goodness!" thinks Daine upon meeting everyone, "these rich people are much nicer than I expected, not high-and-mighty at all!"
Excuse me while I gag.
Any ways, this review was just and excuse for me to rant on and on and on, so in summary, if you love idealistic, romantic, 'nice' books, read Tamora Pierce. If, however, you are untrustworthy, cynical and with all the sentimental side of a dead squirrel, steer clear.

Was a great book, with strong characters and a female lead I identified with as a young girl. Too bad we don't have more examples of strong young females in mainstream media. I loved the whole series and the author does a great job on creating a series that young adults will love.

Okay, This series RULES! But Tamora lost her grip on Alanna's character. SHE SHOULD NEVER HAVE CHILDREN! This is a rebelling Lady knight and she should be rebelling! But now about this book, I would really reccomend it to anyone who loves fantasy. But you have to read the Song of the Lioness quartet. Please write more books about Alanna, she is my role model.
