Very much enjoyed reading this book. Not too complicated to follow and I like that about it. Like the Italian recipes especially. Saw this book at my daughters and had to purchase it. Liked getting it used in good condition.

I saw Gwyneth on Rachel Ray promoting this book so I thought I would check it out. After reading other reviews here I was apprehensive thinking that the recipes were mainly things I could already make. I eventually bought it and am sooo glad I did. I have made more recipes out of this book than any of my other cookbooks and my husband has LOVED every one of them. (He usually critiques other things I make). The recipes are simple and not so intensive as some cookbooks are, but the combination of ingrediants is spectacular. For example, I always liked to go out for breakfast on the weekends and my husband, wanting to save money, would suggest just making pancakes at home. I was never satisfied until I tried the buttermilk pancakes in this book. This along with other recipes (ex:various omelets and frittatas) make me never want to go out to brunch again. We are very picky eaters at my house, but everything I have made from this is absolutely delicious. I can't wait to try the gazpacho! This book is a little like Betty Crocker, a little Rachel Ray, but it stresses fresh, made from scratch food and because the recipes are so simple, it is a cookbook everyone can enjoy.

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow on Rachel Ray and thought the recipes looked interesting. After I received the book and paged through it, I pretty much put it away and never opened it again. I have many cookbooks and this one was ordered on a whim.

I actually really enjoy this cookbook, and on its own give it a 4.5; Ms. Paltrow is down to earth, friendly, and easily shares her ideas and tips without any sign of arrogance. I can almost picture her sitting in any kitchen with a cup of tea and telling the the stories with friendly ease. She also gives you alternatives to approaching recipes which to me is true chef thinking. I have been cooking for years and have found the contents hold up when combined with my own version of recipe improvising; I especially use the Miso soup guidelines at least every other week;I use vegetable broth as a base, especially if I want to go vegetarian and it is healthy and hearty.
~HOWEVER, that being said: this is the EXACT same book as "Notes form My Kitchen" with the exception of a cover switch. I found this truth misleading and dishonest. Now I have to return one of the books after I bought both as a gift for someone. NOT HAPPY WITH THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS PLOY!

I have really enjoyed this cookbook. At first I thought "why is Gwyneth Paltrow writing a cookbook". And it's funny, because that's pretty much the first line in her book. Turns out, her main passion in life seems to be cooking. Most of the recipes seem easy enough to make. The directions have an adequate amount of detail. I especially recommend this book to people like me who do not have any natural talent for cooking. I am absolutely clueless. But Gwyneth has lots of suggestions and ideas that have helped me find a new interest in cooking. I also liked the information about organic products and how to incorporate them into your diet without feeling like you have to be 100% committed all the time.

Overall, it is great looking cook book but after all it is a cookbook so you should be able to use most of the recipes. A lot of ingredients are either too hard to find or too expensive. If you are a vegetarian or vegan or only buy organic product, this book might work but I can only use few recipes on this book. Her father's pancake recipe is great but it is not her usual healthy version, maybe that's why I liked it.

I am really surprised by some of the negative comments about G.P and this cookbook stated below. I consider myself a very good cook and come from an italian immigrant family of great cooks and find this cookbook to be fantastic and a lot like how we cook at home (using simple, fresh, yummy ingredients/recipes to make up delicious meals). Yes it has many simple and basic recipes (like the brussel sprouts and carmelized cauliflower) but they are delicious and healthy and many people either dont know how to cook those things well or, like myself, need a reminder ("oh yeah, i havent cooked cauliflower like that in a while"). Many people dont make their own salad dressings and she offers several easy recipes for dressings that have a little more zing than basic oil and vinegar, can easily be improvised on and are so much better for you and tastey than bottled dressings. Additionally, there are many other more complex tastey recipes for the more experienced cook. There is a GREAT variety from which to choose (simple and hearty salads, warm and cold soups, meats and fishs) and so far the only recipe that I thought just didnt work was the same day pancakes recipe. the "bruce paltrow's pancakes", however, were some of the best I have ever had and this book alone is worth getting just for that recipe. If you like to eat good, clean, healthy but delicious food (that doesnt taste like healthy food) buy this cookbook. You wont be disappointed. And yes, she comes from a life of privilege but instead of holding it against her, why not enjoy her stories and be happy for her.

I love this book! It is a wonderful combination of recipes! Great variations of what I like to cook and things I want to cook! I don't claim to be a professional cook, but I cook for my family and friends almost everyday, several times a day! Organics are also very important to me! I love a gourmet edge to things and am excited to change out everyday ingredients for ingredients that add additional nutrients and create healthy alternatives. I have a three year old that likes to help in the kitchen too sometimes and this book has some little tips to include kids in the preparation and cooking process safely.
I disagree with the review that said this book to be a waste of time because things were too simple. Who doesn't need easy to prepare recipes in their menu plan? As a mother my daily question is always, 'What do you want for dinner tonight?' This book helps a lot. Sometimes you just need that reminder of options and ideas of things that your family already likes, but with a different spin. Then you have great things to try like Seafood Paella, yum!!
All my family and friends love 'Lalo's Famous Cookies'. They are Gwyneth's mothers' cookies. They are wonderful and even my very mainstream eating friends want the recipes of these very healthy and hearty cookies, just delicious!!
The little stories of how many of these recipes came to be are all delightful along with the wonderful pictures of the delicious food, table scapes and her family!
Just a wonderful cookbook! I highly recommend it! A+ Gwyneth! :D

Love the variety of recipes and the stories surrounding them. Thanks to the store and the seller for the prompt replacement of the first book that arrived with some imperfections. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to make great food for themselves and their families. I would recommend this seller and the store to anyone who wants assurance in the quality of merchandise purchased online. Thank you!

This book is probably my favorite cookbook because the recipes are actually do-able. Gwyneth Paltrow gives a list of things you should have in your cupboard and if you have been leaning toward healthy eating, you probably have most of the ingredients already. This is a must-buy!

I have cooked more recipes out this book than any of my over 100 others. The recipes are easy but tasty and please my family. I work a stressful job but still like to play in my kitchen. The slow roasted tomatoes, frittata and the homemade dressings are great and I have 21 recipes tabbed to try. My mother bought one for herself and my niece. We are cookbook people.

If you like Mark Bittman and Nigella Lawson's style of cooking -- using simple ingredients that are on hand to create healthy, delicious meals -- you will be really happy with this! Initially I was skeptical -- but have found it to be a fun read, recipes are very easy to follow. The tomato sauce and the puttanesca sauce recipes are simple with a huge payback in tastiness! Both are totally crave-worthy. Can't wait to make more from this cookbook.

Gwyneth's book is delightful. I have made the fried brown rice with kale and scallions as well as the chicken and dumplings. Both were a hit! I'm making the pizza this Sunday. Enjoy this wonderfully warm and comforting book!

When this book arrived as a surprise, I was truly excited! I know Ms. Paltrow to be a passionate foodie and I share her belief in family dinners and quality ingredients!

I have read the entire book at this point (2 days later) and just cooked two of the recipes. My kids are annoyingly picky and they both just ate an entire stuffed turkey burger as their first burgers ever. I could not be happier!

I think this book is the best of both worlds; practical and far out. Healthy and splurges. Brussel sprouts and turkey burgers were do-able in less than an hour the first time trying. The duck, home made pasta, etc. give me something to strive for when I have more time.

I love her little anecdotes, admire her relationship with her father and love Spain, good olive oil and wine.

Highly recommend if you are an adventurous cook willing to buy good ingredients.

I was a bit skeptical at first about Gwyneth Paltrow writing a cookbook, I know that she's a foodie but I didn't know that she can actually cook 'til I saw her at Rachael Ray show and how RR beams about her book, how easy it is to prepare and with few ingredients.. That certainly got my attention : easy and few ingredients ! What puts me off trying a recipe is the long list of ingredients..So, I decided to give this book a try and boy, I was blown away at how simple but delicious the food is, at least the few recipes that I tried..the rest looks even more tempting..My 4-year old daughter loved the spaghetti limone parmeggiano with basil recipe and the oven-baked fries ! I know it's commonly simple but sometimes I just run out of ideas to make for dinner, but now this book gave me that chance to diversify our dinner menu in no time at all.. I'm now excited to stock my pantry/fridge/freezer with her commonly used items/ingredients..So excited about the salad dressings and recipes as well.. I always wanted to be a more healthy eater and she definitely gave me ideas on how to prepare food the healthy way for my family..(It also helps that I love anchovies ! ..And most seafood )..Thanks Gwyneth, sincerely..

I bought the book for my grown daughters Easter baskets. They both love Gwyneth's blog, Goop and are avid cooks.
It is beautifully illustrated and is an affirming and positive look at how food and family are tied together. Gwyneth seems to be firmly grounded because of her parents and verbalizes beautifully what is important. Traditions, time together, making memories, setting a good example to our children and an apprecation for life's beauty.

The recipes emphasize organic, fresh and healthy eating.

Bought this book because a friend of mine said it was a basic, simple yet delicious cookbook to have around the house. The price was fair so I decided to grab a copy. I do cook on a regular basis so a lot of the recipes are very basic and I didn't need recipes for. However, there are many more that I either never think to make and reminded me how yummy the meal was OR was a new recipe too me which I couldn't wait to try. Overall satisfied with the book and would recommend it to new cooks, beginners and everyone who just wants a good basic cookbook around the house. It's really ideal for those of us that are busy and can't think of what to make for dinner !

Cookbook is very interesting and easy to follow. The only problem I have is that the product was listed as new and when I received it it was a used copy. Someone marked some of the pages and crossed off some ingredients.

A fabulous new cook book from Gwyneth Paltrow. Simple, delicious, and nutritious recipes are accompanied by wonderful photos throughout this cook book. My Father's Daughter celebrates family and togetherness in the kitchen and at meals. Now a young mother of Apple and Moses she encourages her children to help in the kitchen. Having traveled the world and eaten in many places, Gwyneth knows what is delicious and healthy for her family. She gives tips on the well-stocked pantry suggesting essential food items to keep in your kitchen. The recipes have been easy and delicious.

practical cookbook. Variations for making some dishes vegan or vegetarian. The only problem with the cookbook, which is now common with many is the overuse of non-food related photos. This was just a tad too carried away with stories about her father, although I do understand the title and such. I would rather read Gwyneth's thoughts and tips on food.

I like Gwyneth Paltrow a lot and I love cookbooks, but this cookbook fell a bit flat with me. The photos are gorgeous and she has some nice stories about growing up and her family, but the recipes don't offer anything new and exciting. For example, Turkey BLTs, Favorite Granola, and Banana Walnut Muffins. I've seen these recipes, or a variation of them, in Barefoot Contessa or somewhere else.
What makes me love a cookbook is new ideas, surprising ways to make something that is pretty standard, or recipes that make me want to run to the grocery store and start cooking or baking.
I'm not recommending that you don't buy this book, but maybe check out a friend's or go to the library first before buying.

I knew this cookbook would be something that would fit well with my lifestyle. It seemed Ms. Paltrow's dietary preferences were very similar to mine (whole grains, no mammal meat, low sugar) so I was confident this book would have at least a few recipes I could incorporate into my repertoire. I was SO right! Every recipe I have tried worked beautifully. My favorites are the broiled salmon with homemade teriyaki and the kale chips (my husband scarfed them all down--who needs potato chips?!?).

The only potential negative is inaccessibility of ingredients. I'm lucky; I live in a major metropolitan area. Others may not have that luxury, and that could detract from the utility of this book. However, Paltrow does offer substitutes for those among us who are not inclined to give up red meat or eat seaweed.

I've heard much about the fact that Paltrow is an actress, not a chef. That's what makes this book work! I'm not a chef either, folks, yet I still have to feed myself. I am more interested in real food for real amateurs. Why not learn from a talented amateur? Because believe me, Paltrow is talented. Bravo, Gwyneth!

Gwyneth Paltrow has discovered a new niche... publishing. She's after bringing food all the way back home from me & reminds everyone the food & Family are the perfect combination & always will be. A most excellent experience with this book. I can't wait to purchase the inevitable follow-up.

I liked this book, it has refreshing ideas for simple fresh healthy recipes.
Those recipes which some may considered complicated( mainly due to prep time) were not difficult, I found this book to be informative, insightful, and enjoyable.

I had read negative reviews on different blogs about the book. They were annoyed by her seemingly arrogant suggestion that we should all get wood burning ovens built in our backyards to make home made pizza. They laughed at her ingredients insinuating that no one could possibly buy those fancy ingredients at a normal grocery store. They also complained that unless you are an intermediate or advanced cook - you can't use this book. So when I read the book myself - I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I really liked the recipes and I found that I could relate to her as a mother and as a daughter from her anecdotes. I didn't find her ingredients to be so fancy that I couldn't find them at my local farmers market or the grocery store. Most grocery stores have "HEALTH" sections now. I also know a family that are not rich at all - and they have a wood burning oven in their backyard because they saved up and wanted one. It would be the same thing if a family wanted to go to Disney World for vacation - they save up and go. You don't necessarily have to be rich or famous. I have been cooking for a few years and I do find it easier to whip up a dinner from a recipe more so than when I was a beginner - but the book was not that complicated. I'm just a home cook - not a chef - and I could figure it all out. I made her veggie burgers the other day. It was simple and the kids gobbled them up. I made extra to freeze. I have a food saver that vacuum seals my leftovers for the freezer - and I'm not rich or famous - can you believe it? I didn't want to like this book for some stupid reason. Gwyneth just seems so perfect with her fame and wealth and beauty and blah blah blah. But then I came to my senses. She's great and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a good book.
