I am not a cookbook aficionado but I thoroughly enjoy this one. While many of the recipes require some "weird" ingredients, they can easily be substituted for "regular" ingredients. The illustrations and commentaries throughout are great. It is wonderful to see young children really eat healthy. Kudos to Ms. Paltrow! I am excited to continue to use many of the other recipes in this beautifully done book.

Love this.. All the recipes are very simple to make and ingredients are easy to find.. All of the meals I've made from it have been very good, even my not so fond of healthy eating kids and husband have liked them..

I was skeptical about a celebrity cookbook, especially given that I got her previous book from the library and didn't enjoy it too much. This book is a totally different story! I have made a handful of recipes so far:

-Japanese Testaurant Style Salad with Carrot Ginger Dressing
-Sweet Potato and Five Spice Muffina
-Japanese Chicken Meatballs
-Sriracha Lime Salmon

Every single one of them has been a hit in our house and will definitely be repeated in the future. There are a LOT of Asian inspired recipes, if you ask me--which I love but might not be everyone's favorite. I have a long list of recipes that I would love to make in this book.

I've enjoyed cooking and sharing the recipes in this wonderful cookbook. The braised chicken with green olives and lemon is a crowd pleaser and so moist, tender and delicious. The banana date muffins and the sweet potato and five spice muffins are quick and easy to make and a satisfying morning or afternoon snack. The recipes are packed with flavor and texture. I tried several pantry items suggested in the book for the first time and feel like I've taken a step toward taking better care of my health.

I heard mixed reviews on this book prior to ordering it. However, I have found the direction of the diet & advice within to be helpful and of real value. Both of the authors, Gwyneth Paltrow & Julia Turshen, are advising against eating highly processed foods and removing items such as caffeine, gluten, dairy & sugar from your diet. Like Paltrow, I too, suffer from a small growth on my parathyroid and it does diminish my energy levels. I have the added problem of being peri-menopausal which makes this problem worse. I began to wean myself off of coffee (no easy task; I was an addict) and juicing in the morning using their recipes. Not only have I felt better, but my energy levels are beginning to increase. I have been encouraged enough to look into Dr. Jung's books and will attempt to do his elimination diet. While I can't afford to do his full program, I feel that between his books & Paltrow/Turshen's book I should be able to accomplish the cleanse.
I recommend this book for anyone who wants to have a strong collection of recipes that are healthy.

A friend loaned me her copy of this cookbook. Before I gave it back several days later, I ordered 2 copies. I ended up giving both copies as gifts, so will need to order another one. I love the basic quinoa recipe, as it makes perfect quinoa every time! I recommend this cookbook.

It really makes you wonder how much of a difference it could really make to just cut out all of the harmful chemicals that are in our food. My son is no longer taking medication for his ADD and my sweetheart was able to get off all of his diabetic medications. Injections and pills. Check it out!

I really like this book: the photography is gorgeous and the food is good. I haven't had an opportunity to try a lot of the recipes, but I chose this book while looking for something with a lot of different ways to prepare veggies and I am anxious to try more.

Really all the recipes ARE good. . and quick, simple, healthy and family friendly (though not cheap). i just love it. there's a good amount of money spent on items you can only get from whole foods. that's the only bummer.

you'll think: really, there's a dressing recipe? then you'll make it and think: i LOVE this dressing! same thing about the candy bars. and chicken.

I love this book. It has great recipes and everything I tried so far is delicious. I was skeptical about a few recipes but they ended up tasting great. I also love the weekly menus it has, makes life so much easier. Once you have all the ingredients the cooking goes so smoothly. It is a bit time consuming making some of the foods but everything is made from scratch. I think that after you cook them once you figure out how to speed up the process a bit. Some foods can be cooked in larger portions and then froze, which will save time next time you want to use/eat them. I really love it and recommend it to anyone who wants to clean up their diet a bit.

The book came in perfect condition, and it's full of all sorts of yummy looking things. There are a lot of options for vegetarians/vegans, and a lot of gluten free. The only downfall is that living in Australia, some of the staple ingredients aren't available here so I'll have to compromise a little. Beautiful pictures throughout. So far I've only cooked the cauliflower with mustard, and it was AMAZING! Gwyneth Paltrow isn't just a pretty face, lady knows her food!

I liked the book a lot. Great recipes and colorful pictures. Some recipes are not really recipes, but it provides an excellent array of meals for those who have restricted diets.

Btw, the seller indoobestsellers choose the absolute slowest route to mail my book. I was really pissed. It doesn't take anything that long to be mailed in the US. Poor delivery that took about 3 weeks. Shameful because I could not file a complaint. Will never order from this company again.

I rarely submit reviews, but I have been cooking from this cookbook for 3 weeks and have yet to make a recipe that wasn't terrific. I consider myself an average cook, but I have found everything I've tried to be easy - ingredients I could find, techniques I could do, and not so many steps that I felt overwhelmed. I think the complaints about the expense of ingredients are unwarranted - fresh, healthy food may cost a bit more, but is worth it in terms of both taste and health. It takes some planning (but not much) to choose several recipes that call for the same herbs so you don't waste them, but so many of her recipes call for fresh herbs that it's not really hard. I would say that cooking this way is time-consuming, but that again is a function of cooking from scratch with fresh foods. I have tried recipes from other books where I've slaved in the kitchen for an hour or more, then been disappointed with the results. At least with this book, when I finally sit down to eat, I feel like my time and effort were well worth it. The complaints about "too many pictures of Gwyneth" seem catty and petty. The pictures of a healthy woman are inspiring - that's the whole point of cooking healthy food. I am a bit jealous when I see pictures of all the food being cooked on the beach - wish I could do that - but again, it seems to emphasize the point that food is one of the natural pleasures of life. I was a bit worried when I started with these recipes because she does use quite a bit of olive oil and other healthy fats. But I've lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks just cooking from this cookbook. And unlike other diets I've tried, I feel satisfied and not the least deprived. I feel like this cookbook is helping me redefine my relationship with food - I can enjoy eating and feel good about it and get healthy all at the same time. What a concept.

Gwyneth is a loaded topic for many reviewers. She didn't write this book on her own. I was impressed by Julia Turshen's story. It is what convinced me to buy this book after checking it out of the library. The recipes are well thought out and well written. Yes it is loaded with pictures of Gwyneth. But it is also full of good recipes and advice. If you are interested in cooking with and eating more whole foods it is worth adding to your collection.

Simple...although she's been called a total elitist ...Gwen changed the way I eat, prepare, cook, and look at food. I love this book. I've picked up other cookbooks before but this inspired me to cook. I also bought a bunch of copies for friends and family. Easy to make and easy to understand.

Reading some of the negative reviews for this saying that the ingredients are hard to find and expensive I was hessitant to buy this but once I received it I loved it. I found that I had most ingredients already and the recipies are wonderful and easy to do.

She cares; she tries; she is slowly teaching us as well as herself to take charge of our lives in the kitchen and do a better job of learning a better way to prepare good foods for our entire family.. I hope she continues to put time in her recipes so that we can keep learning along with her.

This book is filled with great recipes so you can eat well, without sacrificing taste. The book itself is beautiful, with many colorful photos. Yes, some of the photos are of Gwyneth Paltrow, rather than the meals described, but I don't mind. I don't imagine many protein smoothies are photogenic anyway.
I've made several of the recipes, and have not been disappointed by any. Bernardo's pumpkin pie shake has been my morning staple for a couple of months now, and is a good breakfast smoothie for cooler weather. I've made desserts, salads, fish, and veggie based entrees, and am pleased with the simplicity and great taste. Some reviewers disliked the extreme ease of some recipes, such as Avocado and Veganase on toast, which is a fair comment. However, this book is great because of the diversity of skill levels for the recipes. None of them have been too difficult, but it is nice having a mixture. If I'm making dinner on a weeknight, I don't want to be pulling out double-boilers, simmering for hours, or anything of the sort. I want a delicious meal that won't be a hassle to put together. And, for people who don't know how to make healthy food, having some health-concious snacks in the book is a must. The ingredient list and descriptions at the beginning of the book are also great for those who don't know a lot about why certain foods are healthier than others.
This book is a great starting point for people looking to eat healthier. I have expanded my recipe repertoire, which is the point of a cookbook, in my opinion. For those looking for haute vegan cuisine, this may not deliver. But, if you're looking for everyday, healthy, satisfying meals, this might be a perfect choice.

The font is way too small, esp. where the recipes are listed. The recipe should have a larger and separated section for distance vision. The background does not allow easy viewing of the text.
There are some lovely pictures, but they do not emphasize the food. There are not any helpful side notes for use of the meal, condiments, or beverage.
