I am not shocked by Anita Blake's evolution because I started with Hamilton's Meredith Fairy Princess novels, where the heroine is a charming, hedonistic sex goddess, who doesn't really have much room for character development. So I never expected Hamilton to eventually give in to fear and superstition, ala Anne Rice (vide Christ the Lord). Those who expected Anita to give in to fear, judgment, and conventional small-mindedness must be really bothered, as can be seen from the negative reviews. Fortunately, Hamilton treats us to a serious exploration of love and sex, lust and hate, good and evil, life and death, reason and superstition, from the point of view of a character steadfastly committed to love and the renunciation of fear. This is endlessly amusing and ironic given an escalating barrage of violence, sexual perversion, and death. The takeaway for me is, if Anita can manage to be optimistic, life affirming, and accept the diversity of her reality, we should not complain! We just need to have complete faith in God, accept everything in the creation without judgment, and bravely confront our fears. That should be relatively easy for us, as I'm sure Anita--and her author--would agree.

Laurell K. Hamilton produces the most interesting novels. They also seem to be getting a bit racier every time. This one certainly takes the cake. Warning: Has Been Known To Cause Elevated Pulse! Give this one a spin, but be prepared for naughty dreams.
Happy Reading!

I have all this series on audiobook, this one however I have only been able to find on cassette. Would love for them all to be on CD or MP3 disk and in UNABRIDGED format.

Story 5 stars/ format 3 stars

When I discovered the Anita Blake Series I fell in love. I devoured all the books prior to this one. It took several tries before I was able to finish it. With the books prior to this one, I'd stay up all night and read until done. I kept getting stuck on this one. I couldn't "swallow" all the unnecessary, poorly written sexual content. I'm thoroughly disappointed.

This is my second time READING this book! I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time, however I am a slow reader and can't stay focused. I like listening so much better! I would recommend the entire series to all my friends. The 4-Star rating is because it is not in audible form.

Anita has become the focal point for the lesser weres and become their champion. She rules the leopards and meets Micah, a male leopard she is drawn to in many ways. Richard has not settled his two sides and has come to despise Anita because she has accepted. Very light on Jean Claude, but Micah is fascinating.

WoW, this book was great. I really enjoyed this book. It was exciting and went where I thought Anita and the boys should go. It introduced new people and new relationships. I can't wait to see what Hamilton has in store for Anita and the gang. If an Anita Blake movie ever comes out, they will have to incorporate all 10 books, because to leave out one would be a sin. I hope who ever reads about Anita Blake enjoys.

I waited anxiously for this new Anita Blake novel..and I wasn't disappointed. Old friends and new faces take Anita on anothe wild ride through the city of St. Louis. I was a bit disappointed that Edward didn't show up at some point, but Ms. Blake had enough to deal with what with all the wereanimals and vampires to deal with. The aition of the werefox could have been left out a I don't feel he added anything to the plot of the story, but otherwise another great story by LK Hamilton..I couldn't put it dow!!

While you definitely should read the earlier books, this installment is fantastic! I couldn't put it down! I noticed that someone rated it 2-3 stars, yet mentioned they couldn't put it down either! Funny, heart-felt, hope for the good guys to win, with an edge, it's what I love about these books...

All of the build up finally goes somewhere. If you've loved the other books, this is more the same plus better sex. If you're looking for the characters to be anything other than what they've been or at all hung up on traditional relationships, skip it.

It saddens me to say that the main character, Anita Blake has taken a turn for the worse. I don 't know if I will be able to endure another one of the books about her and feel comfortable enough to read it with all the sex with her so called ardeur. I hope she can get a grip on this, or she 's lost this reader. A little more adventure would have been much better.
