I read this series because the reviews kept compairing to "Twilight". I am a hard core "Twilight" fan and i really did not think this was going to be as good. I was wrong! My Blood approves is a fantastic book in its own right. I can not compair the two books other than the romance aspect of it. You can't help but fall in love with most of the characters. I know these are "teen" books and i would recomend them with a warning!!!!!!! book three is a little descriptive for young teen.
over-all if you like vampire books with a little romance. you will really like this!

I purchased this book because I wanted to try out "Audible". I listened to about 1/3 of it on the road and finished reading it. It was ok. The story line had potential (I have this compulsion to finish reading a book even if I cannot find one thing redeeming about it.) I kept reading this book in hopes something would happen and it kind of didn't. That's not to say it was completely boring - it wasn't, but it was like treading water the whole time and then just ended. Do I feel compelled to run out and buy the next book? No. My Blood Approves

Possible spoilers:
My Blood Approves follows a teen, Alice, as she struggles to come to terms with being in love with Jack, a vampire, and feeling physically drawn to his vampire maker, Peter. Alice is a junior who lives with her younger brother Milo and her absent mother. She doesn't care much about her grades and is not really driven. She meets Jack when he saves her from would be assailants. He is intrigued by the fact that she doesn't fawn all over him like every other woman. They become friends and he introduces her to his family, all of whom are vampires. They all love her except for Peter who can't stand to be around her. Alice is considered Peter's because of the physical reaction they have for one another. Peter doesn't want Alice and hates the way he feels about her. Jack loves Alice but is not allowed to act on his feelings for fear of causing his own or Alice's death because of Peter.

This was a good read with a new twist to vampires. I can't decide who I want Alice to end up with. Peter is a jerk and Jack is kind of immature, all he does is play video games. I didn't fully like Alice either. The whole lack of caring about school got to me. Like a typical teenager, she feels that she can only be happy when around Jack. Even with these issues, I was drawn into this story and had to read the next one. This is a pretty good read and well worth the small price.

Amanda Hocking-- you've won me over.

I previously read the Switched by Hocking and while I really enjoyed the read, I wasn't totally convinced. I'm not sure why. It was a great book and Hocking's talent is clear, but I wasn't 100% won over.

Then I read My Blood Approves. I had downloaded it a while ago and only started reading it today while on a long car trip. I'm picky when it comes to my paranormal romances, especially after Twilight. Let's just say I enjoyed the concept of Twilight, but couldn't get past the characters.

Hocking did exactly what I always want to see in a YA fantasy novel....she made her characters ENJOYABLE.

Alice is relatable, but not too relatable. She is well-rounded enough that she felt like a real person, with realistic motivations and reactions. She has fire. She's vulnerable without being weak. She's imperfect. Jack is one of the best romantic heroes of this genre. I love his boyish charm, wit, and detailed personality. After reading this book, I feel like I know (and adore) Jack. While Peter more closely resembles the brooding romantic stars of other YA novels, he still has enough depth that it works for him. The other characters are just as enjoyable and complex as those three. Even Jane was incredibly fun to read about (even when she got on my nerves).

While I did get frustrated that it took Alice so long to figure things out, I have to admit it made sense. In the real world, no girl is going to just assume, "Oh yeah, he's a vampire." Even if it seems obvious to me (a reader that KNOWS she's reading a vampire story), I don't think it would be all that obvious to Alice. This also gave the story a chance to be real. Jack and Alice actually formed a realistic and HAPPY bond, long before the vampire lore came into play. I am a sucker for romances that are built on believability. After reading this, I could understand and relate to the fact that both Jack and Peter were irresistible.

This is just a small note, but I really enjoyed how Hocking covers her bases. She doesn't leave any glaring plot holes just hanging out in the story (such as...why are there pots/pans in the house?). I enjoy things to be explained, because I'm the type to notice inconsistency.

In addition, I LOVED the side plot with Milo. He was a great character and I didn't feel like he was the "token gay character". He seemed real. I liked that his story was part of Alice's transformation into a stronger, more believable characters.

Well done, Hocking! You deserve this success :)

Short and Sweet Review, by Michelle:
This book definitely needs a good editor to come in and clean it up. Overall though, I enjoyed it. It's so very Twilight and at times I was like "REALLY?" because the main character was so clueless. The relationship triangle and sexual tension though were very engaging. I also love the families for both leads. Milo is absolutely adorable and I want a brother just like him!

I liked it enough that I'm moving on to the 2nd book. :) I want to know what happens!

I thought oh another vampire book cool so I decided to read the series. I was hooked the second I started reading, I even think its better than Twilight. (Part of me does not want to admit it but its true for me at least). The four book series was finished in four days I could not put it down I just wanted to read and know what was happnening and so on. I had this idea in my head what was going to happen and what not and I was totally blown out of the water each time, its not what you expect. READ IT you WILL enjoy it!! I did not want the series to end!!

I was hesitant to read this because I thought this was just gonna be a Vampire Diaries spin off....it's not even close! The only similiarities are that there are two vampires that are brothers and the main girl likes them both......but the story is really good, I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. It's a fast paced story with really fun characters with a creative spin on the whole vampire story.

I thought this book was VERY Twilighty, not just because there was a love triangle, which I liked the love triangle this book had, but because Jack's family's past and the fact that the main character's name was Alice and the way Jack ended up saving Alie and Jack's house seemed like the Cullen's in Twilight and a few minor details just sounded reminiscent of Twilight. HOWEVER, this story did have some unique things that made it good and not just "Twilighty." I would've liked this book A LOT more if Alice wasn't SO FREAKING WHINY. I mean she whined and cried the WHOLE time, and then would say "I normally don't cry this much..." Pshhh, sure. And I really really REALLY would've liked if we would've gotten to know Peter because I liked him and I thought Jack was a little facile and vague. Also, at the beginning of the book, Alice is all up in everything Jane does and blahblahblah and Jane's all about being with Alice, and all of a sudden and conveniently: Jane leaves Alice alone. Also, Alice's mom is just amazingly a good mom, but she's always smoking, drinking, or working. And she's concerned that Alice isn't ever there, but she lets her move out of the house to Jack's house?
All in all, I enjoyed reading the story, but it had a lot of points that frustrated me a LOT. I will read the second book and see if the series gets any better.

I ordered this book through the store and was convinced that it would be the best vampire book ever. As soon as I started it I realized it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. The first chapter hooked me in, but it went downhill fast. I love the romance and humor filled books, this book has neither. It has a couple moments where I was like aww, but I could guess what was coming throughout the book. It also dragged on with no real climax or high point to the plot. I constantly put the book down, read another book and then would come back to it. I just wanted it to end! I always feel guilty when I don't finish books, so I made myself finish the torturous book. Alice was a great character with witty remarks but Jack ruined it for me. He was made to be an amazing guy when he had an awful personality. The final think that completely made me hate this book was the grammar. There was constantly commas and periods in the wrong spots with no spaces and capatilized letters. This made me frustrated because they were all very obvious. I really hope that the editor didn't make that much money because she didn't do a good job.

Of course - junior/senior falls for vampire then gets introduced to another vampire and the typical Triangle is the center of the story. with that said, this is a good read. It's not as gaggy as Twilight where Edward can't kiss Bella without her consent - really? I look forward to reading the rest of this series, it was enjoyable, it started off with a good pace and the characters are likeable. Give it a try.

The books get better and better. I like the author and I think she will go far with writing if she chooses. I will say she is new at it, but she shows promise. I don't get to caught up in editing so it's really a non issue for me. There might have been a few bad spots but all in all so what. If I like the story then I likethe book simple as that. I found I couldn't put of down so I must have liked it. I would rate the whole series as a 5 star.

This was a Totally Awesome book! I liked the author's creative view of vampires! I finished the whole series & I really wish the author would continue writing about Jack & Alice. Especially her adventures as a vampire hunter!

Sorry Twilight you have been beat! Great book...I couldn't put it down. Read book 1 in one day and continued the rest of the series that way. When I go to buy a book I always go to the reviews to get an idea if it will be something I like. After a few ladies at work read this I knew that I would eventually read this, but when I saw the reviews on it I was sold! I am still just so in love with each character. Don't pass this one up!

You automatically get caught in her world of underground vampires. The storyline is very well developed and the concepts are understandable. She has explained the vampires' lifestyles over the series and introduced concepts of lust and love. The love triangle that forms between Alice, Peter, and Jack is entertaining but also deep. The relationship between Jack and Alice is very interesting because of their sharing emotions. Very cool

I enjoyed "My Blood Approves" by the time I finished it, but had great trouble getting into it. The first half is very slow as Alice takes forever to figure out what's going on. Perhaps because I'm a bit older (I'm just over 30), I didn't really like Jack and couldn't see him as the love interest type. I thought several of the characters and plot issues too closely paralleled Twilight (so if you enjoyed Twilight I'm sure you'll like this, but you won't see too much that's new). There's the vampire woman who wants to mother everyone as she couldn't raise her own child; and the whole dilemma of whether or not to retain humanity or immerse completely into the vampire lifestyle, with the same sorts of pros and cons or possible regrets. The issue of her maturity level were she to turn at age 17 was never addressed: if Jack regressed 6 or 7 years from his actual 24 years old, would that leave Alice with the maturity level of a 11 or 12 year old if she turned? Not very appealing for Jack or Peter I'm sure.

Overall, entertaining, but not earth shattering.

I enjoyed this novel, i wanted to keep reading and find out what happens between the two main characters, but i found a lot of similarities between it and Twilight that i dont have anything original or specific to say about this novel. If you liked Twilight then you'll like this novel, if not then you'll probably not like this. I hope that the rest of series becomes more original, and its own, and less like Twilight.

This book is wonderful. I honestly read it thinking it was just going to be a quick read and I bought it because it was $.99 at the time. I was so surprised by Alice, Jack, Milo, Peter, Ezra and Mae. I just fell in love with them. I loved Twilight too, but this book offered something different, a twist to the love triangle. Two brothers in love with the same girl. It was intriguing and made me want to read the entire series, which I did in less than 4 days.

My Blood Approves is the first book in Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves series. This book pretty much follows along the lines of the typical YA vampire romance with a slightly weird love triangle. There is really nothing extraordinary about this book, but the characters are interesting and that prompted me to continue to read on. I will be continuing with this series in the future.

I typically do not write reviews, but this book was too good not to. I am an avid reader and read all different styles (Jodi Piccolt, Young Adult, classics). Although this book and series are YA and I'm almost 30(Yuck), I LOVED it!!! Even more so than the Twilight series. I picked this book cause of the reviews and the great price, but found that I may have a new favorite author. There are some editing issues as an English teacher bothered me, but nothing that was distracting enough to take me away from the great story and characters. Only disappointing part is that they are so short that I have been reading all Amanda Hocking's novels super quick.

I found the heroine to be incredibly unlikeable. She was all mopey over a boy and basically threw her life away for no apparent reason. I liked Amanda Hocking's zombie series, but this I had to struggle to finish.

I worried at the beginning of the book, because it was a bit slow to start. Then the pace picked up and it went on to be a great read! I agree with the other posters that there were some places that I kind of felt lost, because it skipped in between characters quickly. But all in all I loved the book. If you love to read about vampires, and a little bit of romance, then this is the book for you!

I found this enjoyable and interesting--kept the pages turning. Haven't come across any real shockers or insights that define this from other vampire type stories. I did get the sequel to follow the story further, however, so there must be something I like about it.

I enjoyed this book enough, and I think that Amanda has tremendous talent-but I am so over the vampire thing. I read this book on a recomendation from my sister, who loved it, and it just didn't feel all that new or original. Other than lacking originality I found it to be pleasant and I love supporting indie authors so if vamps are your thing buy this book you'l love it, like my sis did ;)

I agree with other reviewers, despite the main storyline IS indeed different there are TOO MANY similarities with Twilight's Saga to go unnoticed: the normal girl that in a way is different to the others and catches the attention of a handsome young man; the rich, and unconventional family with a house in the middle of nowhere and the fancy cars, the different opinions of the family whether Alice should be one of them or not, the indecision of Alice between Jack and Peter ( though not werewolves in this one so far ) and it goes on….Not sure which novel came first but having read the other first, this one turns out being a bit unoriginal.

Anyway to be honest my main problem with this book is not whether it is a copy of Twilight ( or Twilight of this ) but first the editing problems and then that I couldn't get into Alice… she is constantly behaving like a spoiled teenage only thinking of herself ( she sleeps, watch TV, complaints, and go out till she cannot stay awake during the day or at school ), she is quite selfish especially when it comes to her younger brother ( whom I think is actually an endearing character, mature beyond his age )

I did like the other characters enough and the story is entertaining but it does not stand alone and though I would like to know how the triangle is solved, the fact that I cannot stand the heroine prevent me for continuing with the series ( especially considering it should mean reading 3 more books with her as heroine)

Definitely a Teenage Romance (and I'm using the term "romance" loosely ). The title and cover drew me in and I didn't get the "teen" theme from the story plot. This is probably an enjoyable read for a teenage girl, if you're looking for something mindless and a chance to leave behind all those pesky challenges of responsibility. As an adult, even one reading for pure entertainment and a chance to get away from the day to day life, this was a complete and total waste of even frivolous time.

This is about a high school girl, Alice, who becomes involved with a young vampire, Jack, and his "family". As a parent, raising a teenage daughter, I have SEVERAL problems with this book, although it's fairly typical of many of the teenage romance novels. Alice lives at home with her brother & mother. Her father left when she was little so he's out of the picture. The mother works night shifts & sleeps all day, so while she's mentioned, she provides little to no adult supervision, wisdom, or grounding. Jack, while being in his early twenties (when he was turned), is mentioned as having the mindset of someone much younger. No kidding. He is gorgeous, has unlimited money, no parents to hassle him, no responsibilities & just wants to hang out with Alice 24/7. He sulks when she has to go to school & can't play, because he's suddenly bored & can't imagine life without his new friend. Again as all young girls dream, another guy falls for Alice & she can't make up her mind which one she wants. Or better yet, she can't help herself and wants them both & hasn't got the strength of character to make a choice. What shallow self absorbed teen wouldn't want to be Alice? A high school girl free to do whatever she wants with no responsibilities, a couple gorgeous guys fighting over her, and as long as she doesn't make a choice she gets to string them both along. In the end, one of the guys can't take it anymore and leaves, leaving the reader with the impression that he will be back in another book to recreate the same drama again. So Alice ends up with the other by default ... not because she weighed choices and made a decision on her own.
I enjoy a good vampire romance, but I want characters with substance & that's definitely lacking.

This book was absolutely wonderful, I can't say enough good things about it. It (and the rest of series) has kept me wanting to read more and more, I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to own the whole series.
I will be sure to read the other series/books from this same author too!

I was ready to give up after reading halfway through. I was getting so irritated with Alice and her nonstop whining. Thank god I persevered because by the time I finished reading I was hooked and craving for more.

I highly recommend this book. It is surprisingly good... and the second installment is even better!
