I wanted to like “Ride Hard” more than I did. It was a little slow in places and I wish that Haven had been an older match for Dare, because of that I did not find myself connecting to Haven or particularly liking her. I do like what the Raven Riders stand for and do as a club when it comes to helping women and children. I also liked how the guys from Hard Ink were incorporated into the story. Overall the story was okay not great. I do look forward to Maverick's story next and any of the other brother's stories she decides to write.

I love getting the chance to read authors who are new-to-me and LOVING the heck out of the first story I read from them. Ride Hard was so freaking good! I can’t wait to continue this series and discover all of the nuances and stories of its characters.

It was very easy to fall in love with Dare and Haven’s story. Dare was the President of the Raven Riders MC and their mission included helping the less fortunate. They provided safety and security to victims of domestic abuse and aided in developing a new life for survivors. Who wouldn’t love that? Haven was their latest client. She had recently run away from her father, who was the head of a criminal enterprise in Georgia, and was hoping to start fresh as far away from him as possible. She never expected to fall for one of the most dangerous men she’d ever seen. But one look into his eyes told her that his heart was gold and his soul called to her, making trusting him an easy feat. Dare had never intended on settling down. A tragic event from his past had instilled in him the belief that it was better to not form attachments. But he honestly couldn’t resist the sweetness that was Haven. Unfortunately, their time together was finite because she needed to start her new life, which would be away from Dare. Falling in love is never easy, huh? And when trouble comes calling, will these lovers even make it out alive?

"He’d told her once that she could find beauty in the world, and he’d been right. It was him, all along."

I really liked this story. It had suspense, drama, action and plenty of heart. I loved the brotherhood amongst the club members and the passion and commitment they each shared. Maverick, Dare’s cousin, seems to be in love and I’m eager to continue this series with his story, Ride Rough.

Haven Randall and her best friend Cora Campbell escaped their fathers and danger in Georgia. And after another precarious situation end up being assisted by the Hard Ink Team and Raven Riders MC.

Dare Kenyon, the MC President runs a club that does color outside the lines, but it is so they can also afford to help those in need. They don't hesitate to take in Haven and Cora and give them protection.

Dare has a tragic past that has hardened him. He's intimidating, strong, controlled, and respectful. But he is not prepared for his own reaction to the young, guarded, and shy Haven. She has escaped her nightmares and is just beginning to hope for a real future and to begin living her life to the fullest. There are many things she wants to do and see. She's humble, sweet, kind, and likes to give back. But she is also fearful and unsure.

Neither of them have really had relationships. And although there is a pull and attraction between them, there are so many issues and challenges. Haven finds herself feeling at home and belonging for the first time, but her safety is at risk which ultimately also puts his club at risk. She has a chance of a brand new life, but it means she has to leave the comfort of the one she is just getting used to and leaving the only man she has ever really been able to trust. Her choices seem to be safety vs. risk and love vs. protection. But can one choice give her everything or are they destined to lose?

I enjoyed getting to know more about he Raven Riders--Maverick, Caine, Phoenix, Ike, and Jagger. The sweet mother figure Bunny and her husband Rodeo made me smile. I liked Haven's outgoing and supportive friend, Cora. And I was glad to get to visit with the Hard Ink guys. The camaraderie and bonds within the club and with the guys from Hard Ink really are one thing that makes these series so appealing.

Their relationship was a gradual build up of trust, passion, understanding. It started a bit slow for me but I really ended up liking them both. I was glad it was told in their dual points of view. The story line moved from tense, threatening, to a big action-packed climax. It was sweet, emotional, passionate, and suspenseful. These two characters both needed saving and to learn to truly live a full complete life, but there were quite a few challenges. Fans of the Hard Ink series should easily transition to this one with new enemies, a new war, and old friends. I am excited about more in the series and Maverick's story was teased already.

Haven Randall was rescued by the Hard Ink men and hidden by the Raven Riders after having run away from her abusive, controlling father. With her best friend by her side, Haven is fighting for her freedom to live and to find herself.

Dare Kenyon lives to make up for failing the two people he loved the most. Taking in, protecting, and helping women and children from abusive situations is his way of atoning. As president of the Raven Riders, he is responsible not only for the women they take in, but for the men who are as close as family. Never before has a client caught his interest, until Haven.

When Haven arrives at the Raven’s compound, she is a skittish, shy innocent. Her father kept her so confined that groups of people, especially men, sent her to near panic levels. As she became more comfortable with the Ravens, her shell thinned, allowing her bravery to take charge. Her desire to experience a normal life drove a lot of her decisions even as her process came from a place of innocence.

I really liked the sexy, smooth build up of the relationship. Dare and Haven challenge each other. The opposition, Haven with her innocence and Dare with his rough nature, was a perfect fit. I loved the way Dare transformed around her, and even though everyone around them could see the attraction went both ways, he held himself back for fear of scaring her more than she already was.

There was great tension through the plot. The threat sort of hid in the background as readers got to know the characters, but as the danger of Haven’s father looms, the tension grows and moves to the forefront. It kept me wondering when and how things were going to explode.

There is a lot that happens quickly at times, while others build at a slower pace. Danger stays away long enough that it was easy to forget that Haven and Cora weren’t quite safe yet. The resolution is perfect for these two, and says a lot about their strengths and the possibilities for the future.

This was a great introduction to a new group of characters. Cora, Haven’s best friend, has her own story hiding behind unguarded moments and though she ran to help Haven, I can’t help but think there’s something coming for her as well. The Raven Riders as a brotherhood also have several stories threaded through this book that will make for great focal points, and I can’t help but want a book for Slider particularly, though readers also get a lot of Maverick’s story as well.

Haven and her friend Cora escaped Haven's terrible life with a father who abused her and treated her as his property. They were rescued from the wrong hands by the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Haven isn't used to company and she's shy, but the leader of the club, Dare, manages to get her out of her shell a little. Dare offers Haven and her friend the protection they need. His club helps women in dire situations and maybe if he keeps telling himself Haven is one of the many women his club has been there for in the past years, he might actually start to believe it. Haven is a lot younger than he is and she's vulnerable, reasons he shouldn't like her the way he does, but can he stop it?

Haven is afraid of everything and wants to change that. She decides she should live, just like her vibrant friend Cora, and makes a list of the things she wants to do. With nicer clothes and newfound confidence she finally has the chance to feel free and happy. She's being hunted though and she doesn't know if she can ever escape her past. That's why she's going to make the most of the present. Dare is someone she can't stay away from, even if they can have just a short time together. Will she have a chance with this tough, but honorable man?

Ride Hard is a fascinating story. I immediately loved the Raven Riders. The men are strong, but they also have a gentle side. I liked the way they appreciate and share their food and how much they look out for each other. They rescue people who need assistance and Dare is a wonderful protective man and a good leader. I instantly liked him. He had a difficult childhood and I admired that he uses his bad experiences to do a lot of good by helping others in similar situations. Haven is one of the people he's taking care of and I loved their instant attraction. She's sweet and shy, but she's also passionate and knows what she wants. It was amazing to see her grow and find her true personality. I instantly liked the connection between Dare and Haven and thought they would be a fantastic match.

Ride Hard is an original story about a great motor cycle club and its members. Laura Kaye's setting is intriguing and she writes about her characters with empathy and love. I liked the age difference between Dare and Haven, it gives the story a unique angle. Laura Kaye's vivid descriptions of their personalities and feelings made it easy for me to understand them. I'm a big fan of stories about true love and Ride Hard is definitely a good one. Because of Haven's father the story is gripping as well as romantic, which kept making me curious. I read Ride Hard in one sitting and couldn't put it down. It's a terrific dynamic story.

Haven Randall is good friends with Cora Campbell and they have been through a lot together. At the beginning of this tale, you can feel Haven’s anxiety over her current situation. Sometimes you can almost feel her apprehension. The only thing you can do is feel sorry for her and realize that there is nothing you can do to help. You come to realize that there may be plenty of women who have experienced what Haven has gone through but not received the kind of help that she has. Sometimes you fall in love with secondary characters and that happened here with Cora. I looked ahead and you will see her in the third book in this series.

Dean “Dare” Kenyon is in charge of the men that saved these women. His MC seems so different from most. They are a group of men that work hard to protect those that can’t protect themselves. His problem becomes that he’s never come across anyone like Haven before. Dare seems to be a man of contradictions – is he badass or is he a man of honor. One thing this author did very well was making him feel awkward. He does something he knows he’s not supposed to – but of course that doesn’t stop him. I thoroughly enjoyed the scene. I loved that even though Haven may seem timid, it doesn’t stop her from trying to push his buttons.

I know that this is the first book in a new series but I was expecting a little more action from Dare’s men. There was plenty of talk but there was little action to back it up. Although there was plenty of action as the story was wrapping up. The lack of action won’t stop me from exploring this series because I want to know what these men have in store for me. Some first books in a series can be tough to read because an author is building the beginning of her current world. Our author knows what it will take to get her readers involved with that world. The ending she created had me anxious for our couple one minute and smiling the next - and that’s never a bad thing.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is my first Laura Kaye experience. I’ve had Ms. Kaye on my TBR since she came out with her PNR series Hearts of the Anemoi and of course I’ve add the Hard Ink and Raven Riders to my TBR pile. Yes, I bought the Hearts of the Anemoi series, all of them, and meant to read, but of course I got distracted, so I’m diving into her MC Contemporary Romance series.

Ride Hard is book one in the Raven Riders series by Laura Kaye. It is a spin-off from her Hard Ink series. The Raven Riders series can be read as a standalone and you don’t have to read the Hard Ink series to dive in.

Even though I did't read the Hard Ink series I was just fine picking this up. Yes, the guys from Hard Ink make appearances, which of course if you haven’t read them it makes you want to read their stories and for fans who love the Hard Ink guys, it will be a treat to see them again.

Raven Riders MC President Dare is honorable, loyal, gruff, and alpha sexy. Haven is shy and has lived a very sheltered life. She and her best friend Cora, have taken shelter with the Raven Riders. Haven brings out Dare’s protective instincts even more then they already are. This story is full of sexual tension between our leads. These two where sweet. They had several endearing moments together, but they also had some very steamy moments.

What I liked about Ride Hard was the introduction to all the characters. The guys of the Raven Riders MC are all so scrumptiously delicious and intriguing. I also love that the MC is on the up and up and not a 1% MC, which is the bad kind. These guys have a great mission and what they do is awesome. I love how they are dedicated to helping those who can’t protect themselves.

What I had trouble with in this story is that it moved a little slowly at times and I didn't fall head over heels in love with Haven. She felt too innocent, too shy, and I didn't connect well with her.

All and all I enjoyed Ride Hard and the introduction into the Raven Riders. I had a delightful time reading this story. If you love a slow burning romance and MC romance, then you should give Ride Hard a try.

So, real talk, MC Romance was sort of not my thing, but after reading this gem of a book - with its perfect mix of action, romance, and suspense - I'm a fan! Well, at least a fan of Laura Kaye's brand of MC Romance - sign me up for ALL of the Raven Rider's books. That's a real testament to how much I enjoy a book - if I read one and it has me sold on not only continuing a series, but also delving deep into all the works of an author - especially of there's a semi- connected series involved (which is the case with Laura's Hard Ink series). And that truly is the case here. Tattoos, motorcycles, Alpha males, and strong female leads - I am SO down for the ride (pun totally intended).

Haven and Dare are such GREAT characters with so much depth and emotion. I loved them both from the beginning. Despite both of them having had monstrous childhoods, they used their experiences to be better people and to help other people deal with hardships in life. Haven is such a sweet and brave heroine. Dare was able to straddle the fine line between being rough and tough, yet real and honest and open (with himself and Haven) about his feelings. I think that might be my favorite part of their story - the way that they were both so vulnerable but openly communicated their feelings and desires. It wasn't always smooth sailing (the tension, drama, and action are SO GOOD), but I LOVE that the characters had the maturity to talk things through honestly and really communicate. Plus the sex is HOT!!!!

Laura also did a very good job of introducing various other characters in a way that makes you want to learn more about them, leading the way to my really anticipating the continuation of the series. I can't wait to see what the Raven Rider's MC does next! So basically, for being awesome overall and convincing me that MC Romance might be a genre I need to give another shot - Ride Hard gets 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

The story about Haven and Dare is in typical Kaye style; sweet, rough, exiting, hot and filled with hope. Hope of a better life for everyone involved and for the good to win over the bad. I’m so tired over reading the critical voices towards romance books and so happy I have the ability to disappear in to the world of romantic stories that gives me hope.

Kaye is one of the many authors that with her writing can make me forget the world around me, her writing style is easygoing and filled with dialogues so I can easily step in to the world of Raven Riders.
There is also no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings so I enjoyed this book very much. It’s all about the characters and their feelings and how they see and cope with their life.

The characters are well described with a lot of emotions and the connection between Haven and Dare is there from the first moment building to be stronger moving forward.

Dare has wounds from the past that has made him the man he is today. Haven is used to hide in the shadow and I love how Dare made her come out from there. They healed each other.

And now I’m sucked in to the world of Raven Riders, I can’t stop with this book even if it can be read as a standalone. I need to hear what happens to Mavrick.......and where does Cora end up❓

As a reader obsessed with MC-themed romances I can't seem to get enough of them and always celebrate a new release in the genre. After enjoying Ms. Kaye's Hard Ink series, and the glimpses of the Raven Riders it gave us, I was excited to see how she would depict the lifestyle and I appreciate the romantic and heroic qualities she imbued these bad boys with in this series starter. From start to finish she's balanced sweet and romantic with gritty and emotionally intense as two opposites attract in this story of survival.

Dare grew up in an MC world with his father displaying all the worst qualities in being club president, volatile and dangerous to both enemies and loved ones. His and his brother's plan to leave it all behind though led to death and feelings of guilt over his not being able to save those he loved. As a man he now makes the rules of his club, sets them to a higher standard where they're protectors with legitimate businesses. That's not to say they back down from a fight as they'll do whatever necessary to protect those who are weaker or without hope. Being president has him living a life of loneliness, devoted only to his club and the men he calls brother, with feelings of guilt his constant companion until a sweet and naive woman comes to him for help. Dare's immediately drawn to Haven and her innate goodness. Though he knows his jaded outlook on life will tarnish her he can't help wanting her in an inner battle between what he wants and what he thinks she deserves. Theirs is a connection that crackles with sexual tension, one that's protective and increasingly scorching the longer they're together. Their time's running out though as her father, and the bounty he's placed on her, gets closer. With danger looming he helps her experience every bit of life he can and falls for her even more in a desperate bid to make her happy while making sure she has a future of her own making. Dare's super sexy with a kind heart below his gruff exterior. He thought he'd end up alone but finding Haven gives him hope for the future, brings a bit of lightness to the darkness he's been living with his whole life. Dare's so good with the shy Haven, inspiring her and giving her strength to go after what she wants and it's that protective side that endeared him to me even more. Though he's good with talking dirty he sometimes stuck his foot in his mouth when dealing with Haven which made me laugh but still had me drooling over him. By the last page I had found yet another hero who inspired numerous dreams and I look forward to finding many more in future installments.

Haven's life has been one of feeling like a prisoner, being smothered and controlled by a father who had his own plans for her future. Her father's criminal aspirations has him using her as a pawn to get ahead which means a life not her own, one of solitude and of being his maid until he barters her to the best man. Fear had her, and her only friend Cora, running from a future of slavery but right into the heart of danger. Being rescued by the Raven Riders gives her a glimpse of a new life, one of possibilities and of love, if she's brave enough to take it and stay one step ahead of her father. Haven's very naive at the start, afraid of everything, which frustrated me as I like my heroines with a bit more spunk and sass. For too long life passed her by but in Dare's presence she's finally able to start living. She desperately wants him and gets closer to him as they work through her Bucket List. Seeing them together was like seeing a butterfly emerge from a cocoon as he brought out her inner vixen in numerous steamy encounters. Though she never became the perfect heroine in my eyes I still admired how far she came from the timid mouse she once was.

This was a story that dragged a bit early on. The sensual dance between Haven and Dare was full of angst and though I was frustrated with their endless emotional tug of war it allowed Haven the time to mature and find herself. Though their relationship always felt a bit uneven as he's clearly the stronger and self-assured of the two, I enjoyed the happiness and carefree moments she brought him despite her brief moments of immaturity and uncertainty. The secondary characters pulled me into this story even more as they're a compelling and colorful group of people who make up the Raven Riders. The glimpses of these men show a strong-willed and loyal brotherhood, each setting themselves apart from the others in looks and personalities. They're men of sexiness, charm, darkness, anger, with some teeming with grief and I look forward to getting to know each of them more deeply. Whereas Haven is timid and uncertain at times, her friend Cora is outspoken and strong-willed. With a background full of abuse just hinted at here Cora's a true heroine and I was drawn to her much more than Haven. I enjoyed her interactions with Phoenix and look forward to what happens to her next. Alongside the sweet and sexy romance of Dare and Haven was an exciting game of cat and mouse as the club fought to stay one step ahead of Haven's father that ultimately leads to an exciting showdown. The unrelenting worry over a new club coming on the scene further amped up the tension and has me even more excited at what's to come in this satisfying series starter.

Ride Hard (Raven Riders #1) by Laura Kaye
4 stars
M/F Romance
Triggers: Emotional, Physical Abuse, stalking, kidnapping, murder, criminal activity
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This has a lot of moving parts and for a first book in what I hope becomes an epic series, I loved the complexity and emotion that is throughout the story.

Dare is trying to atone for his past wrongs and lives his life helping others. He knows that while he couldn't have really done anything, the guilt still eats at him. The dedication that he shows to helping those who can't truly help themselves is admirable.

Haven is running. She grew up among criminals and was abused for years by her father and his thugs. Even though she knew that she would run and her father would follow, she never thought that she would be caught by a biker gang and held for ransom.

The sweetness and innocence that Haven brings to the story compliments Dares' hardness well.

I can't wait to see what happens next, as I think this couple has a lot more to offer.

The moment Dare Kenyon finds Haven Randall on his doorstep he can't help but want to help her from the hell she has found herself trapped in, it's what he does, help the innocent, the one's who can't defend themselves. His intentions to be her protector start off pretty innocent, but the more time he spends with the beautiful runaway, the more tempting she becomes... and before long the sparks start to fly!

When Haven Randall discovers that she is about to be an integral part of one of her fathers shady business dealings, she decides it's time to run, and finds herself landing on the doorstep of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. She knows that her father isn't going to let her get away so easy, and that he is bound to hunt her down, so being surrounded by bikers seems like a safe place to hide out. They are known to protect the defenseless, so she is hoping for the first time in her life that she can put her life in the hands of someone else... a seriously sexy biker someone else!

From the title of this one I was expecting a gritty romance, but instead I was pleasantly surprised to find something a little softer, and really sweet... who knew bikers could be so romantic! This story had it all, a little edge of your seat action, toe curling romance, heartfelt emotion, and a super sexy biker calling all the shots!! This was my first read from Ms. Kaye, and I have to say her captivating read totally hit the mark, and turned me into a fan! I look forward to revisiting the series in the very near future and having the opportunity to get up close and personal with more of the men from the Raven Riders series!!

Highly recommend this one, it was a refreshing first read full of surprises and lots of toe curling romance that left me swooning... and secretly wishing for a Raven Rider of my very own!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

I've been wanting to read the interconnecting series for awhile now and have several in my personal library. However, I knew I needed to read Ride Hard before I read Hard As Steel, if just for my own personal reasons. I was not disappointed.

The first of any series, to me, is like an awakening. It's fresh, alive, vibrant. The coming of age from idea to reality. In this case, Haven. From girl to woman. Dare. From President to President and man. Any adult knows having what you want in life isn't always easy. Loving, respecting one another is fundamental to sharing this world with those who live in it no matter their back grounds, history or the way or circumstances they were raised in.

Kaye does a wonderful job of showing us this. Taking what is perceived as the rough and unforgiving world of MC and illustrating to us in every world there is the good, bad and horrible. The outward appearance matters little. Yes, this is a love story. Yes the sex is hot, fantastic and the story predictable in certain areas. What is also true, is the depth of each character is displayed in such a way you would believe Dare is the guy you may avoid every summer when pays for gas before hopping on his hog and riding away. It also means the lady waiting patiently for him beside the bike could be Haven as she wraps her legs tight to his thighs. This is a story more about what family should be, than what it legally is. Touching on the prettier face of abuse, skimming just the top of why women do not leave abusive relationships and why some men do whatever it takes to protect those who cannot help themselves. It's a winner in my book.

Haven and her best friend ran from her criminal of a father, determined to be finally free and able to live a good life. But that didn't happen when on their journey, instead they were kidnapped by a Baltimore gang. Lucky for them the Raven Riders were there to rescue them and now they are safe in their compound.

It's hard for Haven to trust though so she's still weary and shy around everyone, choosing to stay in her room most of the time. When her friend convinces her to get out and meet some of the men who saved her, it changed everything. Learning more about Dare makes her want things she shouldn't. Things that could get her in trouble, especially if he learns her secret.

I don't say this too often, but I really liked this heroine. There were moments that Haven really annoyed me and I wasn't so sure about her, but by the end my decision was that I liked her. Main reason because of how her character grew over the course of the book, and seeing it was something amazing. The character development was solid and the slight changes in Haven flowed nicely with the book.

The only problem I had with the story was the fact that it's a spin-off of Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series, which I haven't finished, and there were things I didn't understand because of it. How Haven came to be living at Dare's compound was mentioned but I felt like it was very vague and I wanted to know more about it since it had a lot to do with this book. I wouldn't have minded if the situation the Raven Riders saved her from was explained fully but since it was almost like hints as to what happened, I was left wanting more.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'm already looking forward to more from these characters. I recommend it for anyone that likes a tough biker and a sweet girl trying to be free in life. I would recommend reading the Hard Ink first, though it's not fully necessary.

RIDE HARD is Laura Kaye’s first instalment in her new Raven Riders series, a sort of spin-off of the Hard Ink series, where we had met some of the characters, but RIDE HARD works perfectly as a standalone nonetheless. The Raven Rider Motorcycle Club’s
President, Dare Kenyon, was involved in the liberation of Haven Randall, daughter of a criminal boss. She is now hidden in the Raven Riders’ compound, along with her best friend Cora; both girls had escaped together, and they’re best friends.

I have to say, I thought there would be more action than romance, given the tone of Ms. Kaye’s previous series, Hard Ink, but there is quite a bit at the end. I was not enthralled by the romance between Haven and Dare; he’s a real alpha hero, but she’s a fragile rather pathetic little creature, quite unlike the kind of heroines we’re accustomed to from Ms. Kaye. As a bonus, we get to meet again some old friends from Hard Ink, who step in to help the Raven Riders. Ms. Kaye has created a perfectly believable Motorcycle Club, and the bikers feel just as genuine. I cannot wait for the next book, as it features the characters I most cared about in RIDE HARD, Maverick and Alexa, and I also hope to see more from Cora, because I just loved her to bits!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ride Hard is the first installment in the Ravens Riders MC series. If the next book is anything like this we will be in for a real treat! The Ravens MC is not like the typical MC books I have read about before. While they do have those distinct bad boy characteristics associated with MCs this one was unique in the aspect that they live by a mission to help save abused women. Laura Kaye is a mastermind at creating characters who pull the strings of your heart and a world you wish you could be a part of.

In Ride Hard we get to go on the journey that brings President Dare and shy, runaway Haven together. From the moment they first met each other you can’t help but feel this pull between the two. Dare was a perfect combination of bad boy biker with a kind gentle heart that made me just want to jump in the book and steal him away! Sweet Haven grows from an abused girl into a woman who can finally dream. Kaye takes her readers on a beautiful journey to show that two people with broken pasts can heal one another and lead the way to a hopeful future. I am thankful that authors help promote each other because without that I am not sure I would have ever discovered Laura Kaye and her amazing biker boys. I have found my favorite MC series and I cannot wait to get started on Ride Rough!

Raven Riders Motorcycle Club isn’t your average MC. They go above and beyond to protect those who can’t protect themselves. They specifically deal with abused women who often need relocation and new lives. Haven Randall never thought she’d be on the run and looking for a new identity and a new start. And yet, that’s exactly where she is. Her dad may be a criminal and possibly tied to the mob, but she’s managed to flee from him. She knows there’s a huge reward out for her return, but she’d rather die than go back to being his possession and totally under his thumb.

Dare Kenyon is the president of the Raven Riders. He’s made it his life’s mission to save women who need to be rescued—in the way he couldn’t save his mom or others in his past. He will do anything to protect those under his care. And as much as he might like to explore a long-term thing with Haven, he knows he can’t. He must let her go to a new life under a new name and he can never see her again. Too bad he can’t figure out why that wounds him so much.

The book is mainly a romance, but there is plenty of suspense thrown in as Haven is being hunted down by her father. I sometimes find biker novels to be too much biker talk that goes over my head. I appreciated Laura Kaye’s writing style to include non-riders without boring those who are into motorcycles and clubs. This book seemed to be a nice blend for all readers.

This was a fast-paced, intensive read. I enjoyed getting to know some of the Raven Riders and I look forward to reading more about them in the future.

Haven and Cora were rescued by the Ravens MC. After running from Haven's cruel and criminal father, being captured by a gang that planned to return her for a price...trusting anyone right now is nearly unbearable. But when the deal, browsing and sexy president, Dare sets his sights on her, she realizes she's ready to let go and be free to live.
Dare is supposed to be protecting Haven, not lusting after her. She's too gorgeous, too innocent, and too off limits. But one taste and he's hooked. Now to figure out how to let her go when he knows his heart wants her to stay.

I absolutely love MC books. This one hooked me from the start with the harsh reality of Havens situation. Her innocence and yet strong motivation to move forward is admirable. Dares strength, and protective nature proves to be a good leader for his club and those that hey protect. These two even have a little in common. They both witnessed and endured horrors. They seem to strengthen each other, support without ulterior motives, and move like orbits around each other. This was an intense love story with action, lusty sex scenes, and amazing connect. I am excited to begin the rest of the series.

Isabel’s Review:

Laura Kaye has another hit on her hands with her new Raven Riders series. First, I love that this motorcycle club is a safe haven for women in trouble. Second, the fact that the heroine’s name is Haven was priceless. Third, I simply fell in love with this couple. They were flawed, had suffered tremendous tragedy and abuse by the people who should have loved them, but somehow found each other in a sea of people.

Dare Kenyon is my type of man. He’s loyal, complicated, in some ways broken because of his past, but utterly and completely lovable. Moreover, he’s a force to be reckoned with when the brotherhood or someone he cares about is in danger. I loved his gentleness with Haven and the way he truly saw past her fears.

Haven is stronger than she or her father realizes and in the end, she’ll definitely prove it when push comes to shove. Not only is she soft-spoken, a wiz in the kitchen, kind-hearted and lovable, but there’s a part of her that’s broken as well. Will Dare and Haven be able to heal each other’s wounds in time to save her from a fate worst than death and complete one another? Grab a copy of the book and find out.

The secondary characters were amazing. I can’t wait to find out the rest of the story regarding Haven’s best friend and partner in crime because there is a story there. I also can’t wait to see if Maverick will be able to win back Alexa’s love and save her from the abusive jerk she’s currently engaged to. The dialogue continues to be rich and vibrant as Ms. Kaye draws you into the world of the brotherhood. While the sex is hot, it’s the story and the characters who draw you in and make you want to stay. If this series is half as good as the Hard Ink series, then readers are in for a treat. So far, Ms. Kaye is off to an excellent start with Ride Hard, the first book in the Raven Riders series.

Rated 5 Ravens and a Recommended Read by Isabel!

The Raven Riders aren't quite your average Motorcycle Club, yes they're prepared to cross lines when they need to but they definitely have boundaries and they use most of their money they earn to help protect people. Dare, like most of the MC members, has seen first hand the effect abuse can have on a family and he will do anything to protect the people who turn to him for assistance. The Ravens often rescue women and children from bad situations and get them the new identities and money they need to start over someplace new so they were in the perfect position to help Haven and Cora when they were rescued from the Church gang by the Hard Ink team.

The women were already on the run from Haven's mob boss father when they were captured by the gang and there is a huge reward out for anyone who brings them home so they understandably have no idea who to trust. Haven has led a very sheltered life thanks to her father's overprotectiveness and she's pretty timid and nervy in the beginning. She's wary of being surrounded by so many men and worries about the price she might be asked to pay for their protection but it doesn't take long for Dare and his men to prove that they'd never hurt her or her best friend. I have to admit I was worried that Haven was a little too naive and innocent when she was first introduced but as you get to know her you quickly realise that she has a core of steel. I loved seeing her grow in confidence as she got to know the Ravens and the ending was absolutely brilliant (although I refuse to say why because of spoilers!).

Fans of the Hard Ink series will be familiar with Dare and a few of the other Ravens but it was great to see more of the group and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them. Dare is a brilliant character, someone who is very strong and protective and also surprisingly sweet when he wanted to be. He could be a bit arrogant at times but he was able to man up and apologise when he made a mistake so it was easy to forgive him in the long run. Dare lived through hell as a child and will do whatever it takes to stop others from experiencing the same thing. It broke my heart seeing the way he blamed himself for something that had been completely out of his control but I loved the way Haven broke through his barriers and made him look at things differently. They fit together surprisingly well considering the difference in their ages and world experience but they took the time to really get to know each other so I was totally on board for their relationship.

We've been given hints at a couple of potential future couples and I'm honestly not sure which one I'm more excited about. Cora is going to have a difficult time of it if she sets her sights on the player she seems to be interested in but I think I'm even more curious to see whether Maverick can finally convince Alexa that he's the right man for her. If you loved the Hard Ink series then you're sure to enjoy the Raven Riders just as much and you can keep your eye out for appearances from some of your favourite Special Forces members along the way! If you've not read anything by Laura Kaye before then this wouldn't be a bad place to start but I pretty much guarantee that you'll want to go back to the other series while you're waiting for Ride Rough to release!

Quick Summary
After being rescued from the Church Gang, best friends Haven and Cora, are sent to stay with the Raven Riders MC who specialize in helping those escaping abusive or dangerous situations. Haven has finally escaped her criminal father who has kept her imprisoned in their home for years. But now that she's free she doesn't know who to trust or what to do with her life. Raven Riders president Dare Kenyon has worked hard to overcome his upbringing and make the Raven Riders into a home and sanctuary for those who need it. Haven should just be another client to him but he can't help but be pulled to her innocence and her compassion. But the trouble they though they left behind is closing in and Haven and Dare will have to make some hard choices.

What I Liked
Alright, so I was incredibly leery of this book before I started reading it. I absolutely loved Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series as well as everything else I've read by her. So I wanted to try this series because of the author but I've tried Motorcycle Club romances before and hated every one I tried (admittedly I gave up after a few so I haven't tried them all). But I should not have doubted a master because this book was phenomenal and I hated every time I had to put it down to go to work. Laura Kaye is a wonderful writer and this book immediately sucks you in and keeps you held. Her storytelling, voice, and pace is always spot on and the intensity she creates in her characters and between love interests is always great. The Raven Riders might bend the laws to suit their needs but they are not violent unless it's to defend and they still have a strong moral compass. In the past, this has always been a breaking point with MC romances so I was happy to see the Raven Riders were not a stereotypical "outlaw" MC.

As for the characters...always brilliant! Laura Kaye sets up a lot of side characters in the Raven Riders without making the reader feel overwhelmed with people to remember. I already want stories for Maverick, Caine, Jagger, Phoenix and maybe one day Slider. Haven is a great heroine who the reader gets to watch find herself and what she really wants. She's been abused and oppressed by her father for years so she's just now learning what she wants and likes and how she wants to live. She's nervous and shy around the Raven's at first but her desire to help out with cooking means she quickly becomes a favorite among the guys. Dare works hard and will do anything for his people and he shows this through his dedication to the Raven's. He learned what it means to be a good man from his grandfather and he's always making sure that he and the Raven's do not end up like his father's criminal MC. Haven and Dare are the perfect match because Haven's innocence and compassion for others softens Dare and Dare's strong presence and protectiveness makes Haven feel safe enough to ask for what she wants and be the real Haven that she'd hidden while with her father.

On other notes, it was great to get a little bit of the Hard Ink gang in this one. Though brief, it was nice to see them again as I have missed them so much. That's how well Laura Kaye writes her characters! I hope we'll continue to see them in future Raven Rider's books. As Dare helps Haven check things off her To-Do/To-Have list I really wanted to see them check off get a tattoo, and maybe we'll get this in a later book (please!) Also be prepared, as anyone who has read Laura Kaye's books before knows, she makes you have all the feels. I'm not a crier for books or movies but this one had some moments, it was close. Now to anxiously await the next in the series!

What Needed Work
Just a small thing, but Haven got over her past a little quickly considering how her father treated her. She trusts Dare almost from the beginning and quickly finds her place among the Raven Riders. But this didn't really bother me because, let's remember, this is fiction and sometimes you have to make things a little easier than they should be.

Laura Kaye manages the perfect balance of sweet and heat in her newest novel Ride Hard. A spin off of the Hard Ink series the start to the Raven Riders series holds its own and then some.

Haven escaped the controlling and abusive clutches of her father only to fall into the clutch of a like minded group of people. After being saved by the Hard Ink boys and the MC that helped them Haven and her best friend Cora are taken back to the Raven Riders clubhouse to be protected. The last thing that Haven expected was to fall for the clubs President Dare. He is intimidating and moody but also loyal and sweet. Dare has a lot on his plate. Running the club he helped to rebuild isn't easy but he couldn't imagine doing anything else. One of the main things that the club does is protecting people from bullies. Not only does Haven knock him for a loop with her kindness inner strength, she makes him feel again. He wants to see her happy and safe, but to do that he has to keep her father from taking her again.

A lot of authors have problems with believably writing about tough alpha males who are also sweet and have morals. This has never been a problem for Laura Kaye. Her men are not jerks but they are not push overs either. With every book of hers I read I become and even bigger fan. I can't wait to see where she takes the Raven Riders next!

GOOD BOOK!! Ive read some other reviews on GR (which I generally do NOT do but I wanted to see the reading order of all of these books) in which people were complaining about the “fluff” of this story. Fluff, my butt. I found no fluff. Is it down and dirty, shoot-em-up, hardcore killer MC? Welllll…. not exactly. Its more of what I like to call MC lite, or a MC fairy tale – if you will. It was really, really good. After reading strings of hardcore MC stories I can tell you it was very nice to run across this one. On with the review!

Characters – Dare. YUMMMM. Dare is the leader of this MC who actually runs legitimate businesses for money and also kind of makes it their mission to “help those who cant help themselves”. They are tough as nails bikers but I can totally see them stopping to pick up a kitten on the side of the road. Yeah, they are that kind of dudes. SWOON.

Haven – shes 23 and her dad is a total beast and has kept her under the proverbial rock her entire life. Now he’s arranged her a marriage – for his convenience of course, and shes running. Along with her friend Cora, they run straight into the Ravens Riders MC. Sweet, innocent Haven meet big, bad Dare. OHHHH YEAHHHH.

Story – the story was a wee predictable but that’s ok. It was still very well written and kept my attention. The beginning was a little slow up until about the 20% mark. Ok, a lot slow. But then it sped up nicely and hit the reading flow that carried through to the end. After that initial hurdle I had absolutely no complaints with the story. It was HOT, plenty of sexy times. The heroine was innocent and weak (which I tend to like next to an overbearingly strong hero), the hero was big and bad, there was the HEA and the promise of more books to come. Slap a bow on the beautiful cover and this was a solid 4**** read for me!

I appreciate the opportunity to read/review this book! THANK YOU!

Title: Ride Hard

Series: Raven Riders book 1

Author: Laura Kaye

A shy and distrustful woman running from a controlling ex-fiance seeks shelter with an outlaw motorcycle club with a tradition of protecting those who can't defend themselves, and falls under the watchful eye of the club's mysterious and intense leader who's intent on discovering all her secrets

Brotherhood. Club. Family.

They live and ride by their own rules.

These are the Raven Riders . . .

Raven Riders Motorcycle Club President Dare Kenyon rides hard and values loyalty above all else. He’ll do anything to protect the brotherhood of bikers—the only family he’s got—as well as those who can’t defend themselves. So when mistrustful Haven Randall lands on the club’s doorstep scared that she’s being hunted, Dare takes her in, swears to keep her safe, and pushes to learn the secrets overshadowing her pretty smile.

Haven fled from years of abuse at the hands of her criminal father and is suspicious of any man’s promises, including those of the darkly sexy and overwhelmingly intense Ravens’ leader. But as the powerful attraction between them flares to life, Dare pushes her boundaries and tempts her to want things she never thought she could.

The past never dies without a fight, but Dare Kenyon’s never backed down before . . .

Thoughts:

If you're a follower of The Book Reading Gals it will be no surprise to you that several of us are huge fans of Laura Kaye! She is an auto-buy author for me. At this point, I think I've read everything she's put out under the contemporary romance genre.

It's always exciting when the email comes through granting an arc from a fave author and in my opinion it's even more exciting when it's the beginning of a new series. But what makes this 1st in a series even better is that we get a glimpse of some of our Hard Ink favorites as this spinoff gets underway!

We met Dare in the Hard Ink series, he and Ike and the rest of the Raven Riders helped with the mission to bring down the Church gang and help clear the names of Nick and his team. (If you haven't read the Hard Ink series and you are a fan of romantic suspense, you should really really check it out.) In Ride Hard, we learn so much more about the Raven Riders and their mission to help those that are in situations where they cannot help themselves. At the end of the book in her acknowledgments Laura writes about BACA, Bikers Against Child Abuse, and how she was inspired by their protective mission to create her Raven Rider world.

Dare’s character had resigned himself to life as he knew it… he was fine being alone and taking care of his ‘brothers’. But with the guilt he was living with for his self-professed failing of his mom and big brother he didn’t want or think he deserved a life of his own. Haven’s character was beaten down and at her ropes end when she was rescued at the end of the Hard Ink series. To see her spread her wings and flourish and come into her own while falling in love… that’s exactly why I LOVE to read romance books!

One of the elements of Laura Kaye's work that keeps me coming back for more is her ability to tell a romantic suspense story withOUT 15 chapters of angsty, gut-wrenching, back-and-forth drama... she tells the story that keeps you turning the pages faster and faster but her books come with a quick conclusion. In my opinion her style is more satisfying in the three chapter wrap-up instead of 15! And let me tell you - Hard Ink is completely satisfying!! And with a Raven Riders novella and another book on the horizon for this series, I see lots of great Laura Kaye time in my future!

Grade A+

There is a fascination in the romance writing industry for the hard living, hard drinking, lawless, overly tattooed man's man, who finds himself tamed by either the lawful girl next door or the beautiful buxom damsel in distress. This novel gives us a heroine, Haven, who is a bit of both. The MC Biker hero is Dare Kenyon, also all of the above, but mixed in with the tattoo's and hard living is a decent guy who wants to help those who can't help themselves. The Ravens, his biker club, save women from husbands who beat them, or find new identities for women on the run. Yes, these are bikers who do good! There is also a subplot where they are running guns, but this seems to be a one time thing, so i feel like it's ok for me to like these guys.

I have read a few books in this genre and some of them were truly horrible. I've wondered how that lawlessness, combined with bad writing could make any female continue on with this fantasy! BUT! Yep, a big but here... Laura Kaye can actually write. Gasp! There is a plot. Gasp again! I actually enjoyed reading about these characters! Triple Gasp! Seriously though, this was a well written romance novel. Haven, not only had a cool name, but her character was well developed, her best friend/sidekick Cara, was pretty funny (and you know there was more to her story than we were told in this book!), and I liked the way the love story between Haven and Dare played out.

Dare could have been anything and have had any job. It just so happens he was a biker. Even though he was tough as s*** on the outside, he was ooey gooey inside, and had a lot of heart. I can get behind a lot of heart in a guy, whether they be biker, doctor or garbage man! Kudos to Laura Kaye, for taking this genre in a different direction, writing a solid story that was interesting and making me care for these characters. The title also makes me laugh a little, let's be honest!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Haven has had a life with her criminal father that no one should ever live. She finally ran along with her best friend Cora. Rescued from a gang that kidnapped them because of the bounty on their heads from Haven's father, they find themselves under the protection of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Everything they had they lost after being kidnapped but the Ravens are offerings them the protection that they desperately need. Haven is skittish and shy around people and for obvious reasons doesn't trust many people. She does however start to feel safe with the Ravens especially their President Dare. But Havens keeping secrets. Dangerous secrets the MC needs to know.

Dare Kenyon formed the Raven Riders MC along with his Uncle. Their a different kind of MC from the usual ones. Their main mission is to protect the abused and help them start a new life. Dare, being the President, takes the responsibility of his brothers life's and the ones they protect very seriously. He's lost to much in his life due to an abusive person and he won't let that happen again. Upon meeting Haven and Cora he begins to have an attraction to Haven. He's protecting what's his and he's never backed down from a fight.

I want a Dare of my very own. I fell head over hills for this MC President. He's not had an easy life but has turned it around to do good. He's fiercely protective of everyone and no one better not mess with his club or the people their protecting. Haven is a very serious, sheltered to a degree but controlled by her father her whole life, young lady. She's not gotten to finish high school or go to a party Normal things a twenty two year old should have experienced. She's painfully shy and I loved every second of watching her come out of her shell. I loved Cora too. She's the best friend we all hope we have in life. She would go to the ends of the earth for Haven and has had her share of things she shouldn't have had to experience. They keep each other grounded and protected. They have such a friendship Cora would do anything for Haven including running with her. While not you average action packed MC read I loved every second of Ride Hard. It's more a love story with a side of danger.

Laura Kaye has written a edgy love story romance readers are sure to fall in love with. I can't wait to read more from Laura Kaye!!

The Raven Riders are not like a stereotypical motorcycle club. They raise their hands but not to hurt people, to extend it for support. They like to help people who can't do it themselves. They offer safety and protection to vulnerable people that they cross paths with. Especially those who find themselves in situations of domestic violence. Don't let me confuse you though, the do love to drink, women and ride their motorcycles so they don't sit around drinking tea in their knitted cardigans!

When Cora & Haven find their way into the care of the Ravens they are blown away by how kind the club is. For Haven, this is the first time in her life she has ever felt safe. It takes her a while to come out of her shell because being around men makes her nervous, thanks her to controlling, manipulative father, but when she does she is filled with a sense of peace.

'I will keep you safe. I will give you the life you deserve. I promise.'

Dare, President of the Raven Riders, is a bit taken by the beautiful Haven. She is a lot younger than him but they both seem to be at similar places in their lives. He hasn't found a woman that he would ever consider as 'the one' but the longer he spends time with Raven the more he is feeling all tied up in knots. Her beauty and innocence fills him with primal urges he is having trouble reigning in.

'Haven Randall was maddening. Sweet, yet sexy, innocent yet provocative. Beautiful yet seemingly unaware of what she was doing to him.'

Haven finds herself fantasizing about the dark and brooding Dare. He is everything she shouldn't want but at the same time everything she desires. She feels so safe around him and she has never had that before. Dare and Haven find themselves in an attraction so deep that they just can't deny it anymore. The sexual energy between this couple is intense. Nothing is rushed and it is really sweet. I loved the slow build of not just the trust but the beautiful lust.

'Dare's hands stroked her back, his eyes suddenly softer, unshuttered, uncertain. He pulled her closer, until their foreheads touched. "What are you doing to me?" he whispered. "I don't know," she whispered back. "But you're doing it to me, too."

There is an ever present danger lurking in the background which the club is very aware of, Haven's father is looking for her and the need to relocate with Cora is becoming a high priority for everyone involved. Haven does not want to put anyone else in danger by out staying their welcome but she trusts that the Ravens will do right by them. How can she leave a man that she has such an amazing connection with, knowing she can never see him again? How can Dare let the only woman who has ever made him think of a future with go?

'He'd promised Haven safety, a fresh start, a new life away from violence and chaos. And he was going to keep his word. It didn't matter what it cost him - not his money, not is time, not his heart.'

So there you have it, lots of lust, angst, edge of your seat danger, peanut butter cookies and cinnamon rolls <--- Oh yes, there is also baking in this story! I am excited that this is just the beginning of a new series and I am looking forward to more from the Raven Riders.
