Very interesting commentary on the times and family relationships.(I remember using party lines.) Not only party lines, hand cranked model T fords, speakeasies, Salvation Army Band, and women's hemlines are discussed.

This is a pleasant book , written in a time period, and the descriptions of the food, clothing , cars and attitudes are correct. I thoroughly , the first three am currently on book 5 , and know I'll have to finish the series!

The summary sounds absolutely delightful but I wish I had read the other reviews before I purchased the box set. I agree with every other poor review- the story is slow, poorly written, in desperate need of an editor, redundant (I get it- Daisy doesn't like rich people; Harold is gay; her gracious smile; we Gumm's do whatever- ugh!!!) The characters are obnoxious and uninteresting. Daisy herself is probably one of the worst. It seems as though the author is cramming in as many 1920's references as she can.
It just isn't a good book and I'm not sure how there's 5 more! Truth be told, I'm not finishing it now because I can't take anymore... Perhaps I'll come back to it. Maybe.

Poor Daisy Gumm, Desdemona Majesty, is always on the hot seat with her wheel-chair-bound-husband Billy and his new best friend, Officer Sam Rotondo, who both think making a living as a fake medium is shameful and possibly illegal. But Daisy's "gifts" were forced on her by others who saw something special in the way she handled a ouija board. When her husband returns from war a broken man, she has to earn a living some way and is constantly being put in a position to almost be on the other side of the law. She considers it better than the jobs she's not even qualified for, so on she goes. Hobnobbing with the rich is not so bad either, but she loves her family and her little life outside the seance room. Great stories of life as a medium in a time when women had few working options. She's a very real character with plenty of opinions and judgments about people, but she helps those who hire her while supporting her family, and that's all that matters to her. Loved it, will read more. I love a good mystery with a paranormal edge. I'm currently binge reading this series.

The books were interesting; however, there was repetition as the author updated everything about Daisy in each book. There was also repetition within the books as the relationships between Daisy and other characters were repeated particularly between Daisy and her husband. Even so, I enjoyed the books. Daisy was self deprecating; funny, and obviously liberated woman for her time. The books were a quick read.
