Review:Happened to find this series by chance and what a great discovery for me. Lots of snarky humor, great slow character development, and backstory developing. Lots of suspects and attention to detail. I like all the characters and excellent ending. Read more
Review:Are you kidding me? Who are these people who don't believe this is a good book? The last third may seem to let down the first two thirds, but if you knew anything about Heinlein, you'd know that the beginning is just a warmup. In order to understand "Cat" you have to have read "Time Enough for Love" and "The Number of the Beast" in that order. "Sail into the Sunset" is set at about the same time as "Cat" (not that time has much meaning to these people) and would also be helpful. If you hav... Read more
Review:It is definitely a "light-hearted" story. More Stephanie Plum and less Columbo. The "witch" aspect of it is fascinating and keeps the plot twists interesting, because not only do you have the "bad guy" but you have the "bad guy is a supernatural." Read more
Review:I've read the Aurora Teagarden series out of order, unfortunately, due to boredom and a dependence on the local library. I made the mistake of reading this book second; I usually don't mind reading a series out of order because I never read a book for plot alone. Harris's style is good as always, developing irresistible main characters with strong and interesting supporting characters that are rarely two-dimensional.
There was nothing really remarkable about this book compared to the othe... Read more
Review:Another good entry in the Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris, although disappointingly, in my omnibus edition, Chapter Eight is virtually unreadable because of formatting errors.
I like Roe Teagarden. She's a fun character, quirky, has some idiosyncrasies and not everything goes the way she wants it to. In this entry to the series, Roe has come into an unexpected inheritance, a house, and a significant amount of money, after her friend's death. She also accidentally inherits a cat... Read more
Review:Last Scene Alive is the seventh novel in the Aurora Teagarden series by American author, Charlaine Harris. Almost a year after Martin's death, Roe is going through the motions of life when Hollywood comes to town to shoot scenes for a two-part TV movie of Whimsical Death, Robin Crusoe's novel about a serial killer in Lawrenceton (see Real Murders, the first Aurora Teagarden mystery). Roe has mixed feelings about Robin's arrival, and is not at all happy about the movie, even though it is bound to... Read more
Review:This book appeared to be the last in the Aurora Teagarden series. There were 8 books from 1990 to 2003. I enjoyed the series but still had several in my TBR stack. Then Hallmark's mystery channel picked up the Aurora Teagarden series and two new books were written. One was released in 2016 and the other one in 2017. Hopefully, there will more going forward. Charlaine Harris is a diverse author. She has written several series and each is uniquely different. It is like a different author wrote eac... Read more
Review:A magical garden, a manor featuring an Agatha Christie Tea Room and a couple of murders blend together for an all-out fascinating read in author Ellery Adams’ latest Book Retreat Mystery series release.
MURDER IN THE SECRET GARDEN will quickly draw you in with a meeting of Medieval Herbalists at Storyton Hall, along with a fancy wedding. The book-themed resort comes alive through the author’s vivid descriptions. The gardens flourish on the pages through her eye for details.
The core cast o... Read more
Review:The first of the series was hilarious, but at some parts predictable. I like to be a little surprised, but I think this was her first book out ever. I've read her mixology series and didn't want to leave the author because that series is amazing. I will also continue to bo. I hope she finds her stride in this really funny series with great characters. Lots of things happen in this book from men, to bad guys, to Lacey being naive which is a star off. Somethings she did just seemed childish and I ... Read more
Review:This one was fun. I love the idea of putting together a book club, or at least having intelligent conversations with people about books that I've just read. And Agatha Christie was great. I hope to read more by C.A. Larmer later. Read more
