This one was fun. I love the idea of putting together a book club, or at least having intelligent conversations with people about books that I've just read. And Agatha Christie was great. I hope to read more by C.A. Larmer later.

This was an enjoyable read with enjoyable characters. Easy enough mystery to not make you think too hard, but with enough twists to keep you from getting board. I look forward to future adventures with the Agatha Christie Book Club.

It was a pretty good mystery but I've never been big on contemporary ones. I didn't know who the suspect was until everything was revealed, so that kept it interesting. Not too much to say about it, but it was a decent novel.

Felt the plot was unrealistic. Some parts of the story implausible. Though the idea of writing to say why you wanted to join the club was understandable given the age of the books would it really have worked? Ending acceptable but can't recommend it.

I would recomment this book to help someone sleep. The story could have had more drama, but I suppose it was reminiscent of the original Agatha Christie books. Oh well, I read it and can now move on.

This book had the things I love: A Book Club, A Mystery and COOKING. I could have stepped into the pages of the book and joined the adventure. I would have felt right at home. I never saw the end coming and that made the book really fascinating.

For an Agatha Christie tradegic this book ticked all the bases. Enjoyed the story line and the authors sense of humour and the tie in to the real Agatha Christie books. Chose the book because of the name and throughly enjoyed the story reading until I was finished.

I've been reading, "The Agatha Christie Book Club" and I'm really LOVING IT. Being from the US, it's nice to see other settings and Australia looks to be pretty great. Not quite finished reading yet, but I can't wait to see who did it. I started out thinking the lady with the husband who is going into public office might have done it, but you pretty much nixed that idea almost immediately. I love being surprised by a book and you are delivering that... in spades.

Thanks so much for writing this. As I said, I LOVE IT! This is one of the first books I've bought off of the store.com as an ebook.

Pretty standard entry in the cozy-type mystery genre. I was disappointed, especially considering it was supposed to be about a bunch of Agatha Christie fans. Pretty much all the characters were stereotypes (the gay guy) or cookie cutters (the villain), including the main protagonist Alicia. And there was an immediate set up between Alicia and the one straight guy in the group, who came across as incredibly unlikable. I couldn't figure out why she even let him into the club, let alone developed a crush on him. My biggest complaint has to be regarding how completely clueless they all were about Agatha Christie when they were supposed to be such big fans. When I read the book description (re: the suddenly missing book club member) my first thought was about Christie's own disappearance. That's part of the reason I decided to try reading it. (That story is fascinating.) None of the book club members seemed to know the first thing about it! I can understand not knowing the minute details, but not one of them mentioned it when the woman first went missing. And even when they did start talking about it no one made the obvious connection. And not one of them had read "The Mystery of the Blue Train." These are Agatha Christie fans? At one point Alicia watched a movie version of a Christie book and thought that was an adequate substitute. I probably should have stopped reading there, but I actually managed to finish it. Having said all that, I didn't find it a complete waste of time. I took a shot at a new author and wasn't thrilled. But I won't be reading the follow up to this particular mystery.

Written for fans of cosy styled, more light-hearted mystery stories, THE AGATHA CHRISTIE BOOK CLUB will ring many bells in any readers who are also dedicated Agatha Christie readers. Set in Sydney, the ACBC is formed by Alicia Finlay when she finally has to throw in the towel on a more formal (aka stuffy) literature based book club (personal note - if you TRIED to hold off the wine and cheese at our book club meetings you'd be laughed out the door!).

Those dedicated fans of Agatha Christie will recognise many of the scenarios, clues and hints dotted throughout this mystery. To the point where you may find yourself shouting at the book club members, who for fans, seem to have missed quite a few of the books / much of Christie's personal story, and therefore a whole heap of "well duh" moments. Much of THE AGATHA CHRISTIE BOOK CLUB is based on entertainment, rather than hard core mystery / crime fiction - right down to the almost mandatory requirement of the victim being a pretty nasty character. With plenty of people that might want him dead.

Leading the charge, Alicia Finlay is ably assisted by her cooking up a storm sister, and members of the bookclub who all take various investigation threads. There are a few lightly poached red herrings dotted around, and a bit of business with some direct links to Ms Christie's own disappearance. The police are there, possibly less than motivated when the crime is only the disappearance of a middle aged woman, not so laid back when the crime turns to murder.

Needless to say this is definitely on the lighter than air side of crime fiction. There's a hefty dose of romantic longing, quite a lot of gossiping, some fashion, a lot of chatter about home decor, and some "revelations" which you will probably see coming pages and pages earlier. Of course it makes no pretence of being anything else, and if you are a fan of the lighter side than it's well worth a look. As long as you can let the obvious clues go by. Fans of Ms Christie's writing might find the bookclub's inability to recognise some of those, especially when they stand up and scream "I'm an important clue for goodness sake", a tad frustrating.

Just finished up my first book by C. A. Larmer, The Agatha Christie Book Club. Set in Australia, it follows the trail of 5 book club members as they search for the missing 6th member.
I enjoyed the book tremendously as I am a big Agatha Christie fan from way back, and so first the title caught my eye, but they used the clues from various real Christie books in the search throughout the story.
There were clues that were somewhat waved at you once in a while, but that happens in all mystery books, and when the story was all wrapped up she didn't leave dangling problems. The significance of things became clear and characters were kept true to form.
I think there could be more mysteries for this club to solve.
Well done.

This was a fun "cozy" mystery set in Australia. It was fun to read and easy to follow. Alicia decides to start a book club on Agatha Christie who, she like to read. She got a lot of people interested and picks out a few. After a couple of meeting one of the members disappears and not to long after that the husband is killed. The Book Club decides to look into the mystery.

Thank you to C.A. Larmer and Goodreads for this book.

I got this book for two reasons; one because a friend shared a link to it and two because I’m an Agatha Christie fan. I’m so glad I did.

Alicia Finlay leaves her boring book club with its stuffy rules and dull reading matter. Her sister suggests she starts her own book club devoted to the works of Agatha Christie. She advertises and a motley crew gather together.

This is just the beginning. One of the club members mysteriously disappears and the remaining club members go all out to find her and solve the mystery in the way Agatha would. This leads to problems, secrets exposed and an interesting conclusion.

Ms Larmer weaves a brilliant plot, which I think Agatha herself would have been rather proud of. Her characters are evocatively drawn and the engaging dialogue draws you into the plot. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author in future.

If you were wondering if this book is worth a read, I can solve the mystery for you in a word. YES. I enjoyed it and the many references to Agatha Christie books and her personal life was woven nicely into the mystery. I would recommend it.

I really enjoyed this mystery. This has great characters, crime fiction references and a very enjoyable writing style. If you love cozy mysteries and / or Agatha Christie, don't pass this by. It's worth it!

I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, but I knew right away that I would have a hard time putting it down. It has great development of the characters, fast moving scenes and a great twist on the ending. I learned a great deal about Christie that I did not know and when the book club was discussing some of the books, they generated a need to go back and reread these old classics with a more educated eye. Great read, I am waiting for the next in this line!

I have read every Agatha Christie mystery and own a whole book shelf full. I could leave any of her books laying around and my grandchildren could pick them up and read them. This was a trashy book that I closed after a few pages. Not real sure where it could be compared to the classic characters and delight of a Christie classic.

This was such a fun, light book to read. I'm an Agatha Christie fan myself and wish there was a book club near me dedicated to her books! I loved the setting of Australia, the cast of characters were fun and diverse and the sisters reminds me of my sister and I when we were younger. I liked the touch of anticipatory romance - I look forward to see how it develops.

The ending was intriguing. I could feel the betrayal and disappointment of the book club.

I've already downloaded book 2! I definitely recommend this book.

The Agatha Christie Book Club by Christina Larmer
We meet sisters Alicia and Lynette with their black Labrador Max. The sisters are devoted readers to Mysteries and Alicia decides to start a book club to find other like minded individuals. She does that, and falls headfirst into a mystery of their own when one new member disappears. It is an interesting book full of hints, dead ends, and even murder! Alicia began more than she had ever imagined but made friends in her own book club that are enjoyable to read about. This is a book you want to get to the end to find out ‘Who did it?’ But you don’t want to finish reading! I enjoyed this mystery novel very much and am sure others will too.

A very enjoyable semi-cosy mystery set in Sydney, Australia (so nice to read an Aussie author's work!). A fabulous premise, an excellent plot that was not at all predictable, and a surprising end. Don't need to be an Agatha Christie fan to enjoy this - just a fan of good writing!

A good solid read but not one that I would go wow over. The life and works of Christie almost tell you from the start as to how the book was going to go. Frankly I didn't really like the main characters but the story was as well written as anything by Christie herself. Just a shame that the plot and the characters let it down.
