It was difficult to read because of the subject matter, but extremely interesting to find out more about Schindler from someone who actually worked for the man. Fascinating. An amazing Life journey for the author, who would not have survived if it weren't for Schindler.

This book was on my daughters summer reading this at school, I read it after she was finished. You can't say it was a great story because it is a sad story. The author draws you in and you go through his journey with him. After reading the book my daughter wanted to do to the museum in DC to learn more......how can you not love a book that makes kids want to learn more about history.

If you've see the movie, Schindlers List, you know part of this story, but this is the story of one of Oskar Schindler' s child workers, how he and his family came to work for Schindler, what he went through beforehand and how amazing his life was after WWII. Truly inspiring testament to surviving adversity and going forward with a heroic life.

Powerful!! I have read a lot of books about Jews surviving WWII, but this one really hits you. And it is a very clean book--not one single profane word, other than the "hells" used to describe the horrors. Great for teenagers. Helps us all understand how good we have it--and wonder, How did so many Jews survive the horrors they went through??

Beautiful told and heartbreaking story of a Jewish family's experience in Poland during WW2 under Nazi occupation. This book,
though not overly graphic, is not for younger children. I would say for high school age. I am 64 years old, and found it to be one
of the best books I have read in along time.

And this one is no different. Sometimes I review books on things like format or ease of read. For memoirs, I typically focus on the account alone. So- five stars. Yes, there are plenty of memoirs on similar experiences, but it really does matter. Stories from the perspective of any individual are so useful in understanding life and guiding how we perceive our own. So a thank you to Mr. Lesson, and all those who helped him put down the words.

This is an excellent read. I just completed reading this to my 10 and 13 year old girls who begged me not to stop until it was done. This is a thought provoking book and an excellent tool to springboard into further discussion of the Holocaust.

I thought that this account of the author's personal experience of touching and, at the same time heart-wrenching experience of his days under the Nazi domination coupled with the tragedies that he had to endure were depicted vividly and accurately. To have been a product of Ozcar Schindler's life saving actions for Leon and his family brought to life an egregious historical event, the holocost. I thought that it was extremely sensitive and reflective of a period that should never be forgotten, only to be never repeated.

What a wonderful book. We who live in America don't know how really blessed we are to live in this country. This is a true story and thank God for people like Schindler who saved Leon Leyson and many other people during such a awful time.

More than met my expectations! I love any true book about the Holocaust of WWII! When you can add Oskar Scheindler to it, all the better!
To read of a life of a little boy who loved it all, then the Nazi's came & tore his world apart! Well, that was a typical start of a Jewish life in Europe in WWII.
But, Mr Scheindler became the hero of this boy's life! A story you won't forget & a book you won't want to put down!!!
Not just for children! I read every Holocaust book I can get my hands on that I can afford! This book is fantastic! I highly recommend it!

We could all take lessons from Mr. Leyson about perserverence and love. He has shared life's most precious lessons, learned young and lived well. Thank you for this remarkable book about unlikely heros and the strength of families. I read this in one sitting. This was a highly satisfying read.

This book, is a heart bleeding book, the story will make you read without stop. The story of the concentration camp will make you think twice how lucky we are in this country. I recommend this book for teenagers and adult as well. Too graphic for children.

This is another story of a survivor of the Holocaust as told by a survivor of Schindler's List. It is always interesting to see how Schindler did it; how he impoverished himself while completely fooling the Germans. It is another angle on the story.

Book is written well. The autobiography tells of unbelievable, unimaginable and tragic events. Conversely, the book describes the will to live and efforts to live. Book shows resilience, faith in humanity and is inspiring.

This was very well written and a moving story. Some memoirs are choppy but Leon was an excellent story-teller. He weaves the perfect amount of feeling with history. What a wonderful family and what strength they had. The world is a better place because they were in it.

An insightful well written memoir of a holocaust survivor. This was one of the best books I had the privilege to read this year. The author was an extraordinary individual who never lost his humanity despite the horrible things he had done to him and his family. Should be required reading. Read it, you won't be disappointed.

The amazing story of a boy who overcame the terrible hand dealt to him to make it in the world. It makes me ashamed for the times I've given up in the face of adversity. Fortunately very few of us have ever had to deal with things like this.

I read this book quickly on my Kindle and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was not until the last page that I realized it was written for children. Anyone who loves WWII stories of triumph will like this short book. Enjoy.

It is amazing what people did to survive this horrible time in history. The resiliency of the body and human spirit is depicted so vividly in this book. Another great tribute to Schindler. A fascinating read for those who follow WWII history.

Leon Leyson recounts his personal nightmare in The Boy On The Wooden Box. Leyson is a holocaust survivor and was among the Schindlerjuden, the Schindler Jews. This fascinating story takes readers on a mind-chilling journey that leads Leyson through many brushes with death, only to be saved by Oskar Schindler, the German who was celebrated in Steven Spielberg's blockbuster, Schindler's List.

The Boy On The Wooden Box is a testament to the human spirit and serves as a magnifying glass that illuminates the depths of human evil and depravity. Leyson provides enough details to keep young readers interested and beautifully weaves his personal story through the darkness days of the 20th century.

While the book is designed for younger readers, it will certainly captivate the attention of all kinds of book lovers, especially students of history. Leyson is to be commended for retelling his story and celebrating the man that saved the lives of so many Jewish people.

This book helped me gain more understanding of the conditions of Jews during WWII in Germany and of Schindler. It is a wonderful thing to know of heroes and survivors like hose in this book showing me that it is ok if life is hard and intolerable. Life can still turn out good.

Everyone needs to read this book. We can't forget what the Jews and the Greatest Generation went through. This book is well written. I could not put it down. Even with all of the depravity during the Holocaust, the author leaves you with a feeling of hope.

This tells the story of the youngest person on Shindler's list. I was supremely pleased to stumble across this work. The author is genuine, humble, forthright and not into any self pity. But his story is riveting, marvelous, inspiring. Well written.

A very moving story about never giving up and looking out for your family and the ones you hold dear. I am a "senior" citizen and thoroughly enjoyed this book and my grandson (age 14) did also. A story of remarkable and strong people who always had hope.

This is definitely a wonderful Holocaust survival book. It makes you wonder, could you do the same? What would you do to survive if life had taken a different turn. What if you were hunted down? Your family? Definitely makes you think.

I've recently been binge-reading books based on the Holocaust - and this is one of the best. Told by an actual survivor (via Oskar Schindler). It was compelling and heartbreaking. If you enjoy this genre, this is a must read.

Rarely does a Story from the Holocaust have a fairly happy ending. Leon was a very lucky survivor of hell on earth. I think stories like this one should be required reading for all students at an aware age. We must remember and never let such hate arise again.

I read a lot of holocaust literature....enjoyed this book. Leon was one of the youngest children working in Schindler's factory during WWII. Like many other survivors, immediate friends and family did not know about his experience in the Holocaust until many years after. Just 10 years old and living in Poland when the war started, he tells reactions to the German invasion and treatment of Jews from the perspective of a child. His lifelong compassion and love for people comes through throughout the book as does puzzlement with the whys of...how could people treat each other that way? His bravery to act when needed to assess what was going on and act, time and time again saved his life. I loved the memories and personal experiences with Schindler the author shared. They conveyed the danger, compassion and generosity of Otto Schindler. This book reads without bitterness, but the deprivation and hardship endured is conveyed. It was a quick read I enjoyed it! It gave me insight into a man who survived one of the most difficult times in history.

Anyone that goes through the horror of wars, especially the WII, has so much to teach. It makes people like me wonder how come we can complain and suffer for mean less things. We should be thankful about everything, be kind and treat each other with compassion, learn from our history and make sure this atrocity never happens again.

This is an incredible book. I chose it because a P.E.O. sister assisted her husband in telling his story. It should be required reading for High School students. I'm sure none of us who didn't live it could imagine the horrors of Hitler's regime, and this tells it thoughtfully and real. I'm so glad Leon was able to document his life for us before he died. Not a book I will forget!
