I read espionage stories whether they are fiction or non-fiction, but I have never read a more suspenseful story. I was on the edge of my seat constantly. Not only does it seduce with the history, but the sacrifice so many people made. This book should be read by anyone who likes being entertained, informed and excited.

This is an interesting and eminently readable book. The story has been very well researched and so the reader does not feel cheated by the fact that the author was not able to speak with the main character. It was particularly interesting to learn the ultimate fate of many characters we heard about while reading of Ms Hall's adventures. Another great person to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.

This was a very interesting accounting of historical facts that allowed the resistance to defeat the Nazis. The bravery exhibited by Ms. Hall and others is a great testament to the strength of character civilians and soldiers exhibited during wartime. I think all women and men who have served or are serving to protect my freedom.

If you like WWII history you will enjoy this book. The book tells the untold story of an amazing woman and her work in the resistance in Nazi occupied France. Easy to read and informative. Seeing how one person can make a difference is very inspiring.

I enjoyed reading about this woman and her career in FANY, OSS and CIA. She was a brilliant and patriotic lady and should not be forgotten in history. In a philosophical sense she is also worthy of emulation because she did not achieve her initial goal but made the most of opportunities she was given in life and not only succeeded but thrived.

Enjoyed this book very much. Well written and held my attention throughout. Was somewhat aware of the French resistance after the German occupation but this book gave me a real bird's eye view. Very interesting and educational.

Informative and insightful. A great portrait of the kind of woman you rarely see anymore. Her dedication to freedom is rare these days. It got a little slow moving at times, but I enjoyed it and learned a lot

Virginia Hall was turned down by the State Department but found her place as a covert operative in France during World War II. This is a gripping story for anyone who likes true tales of heroism against the odds. Her physical accomplishments with only one good leg were incredible only equalled by her mental toughness and leadership ability. I find myself wanting to tell friends all about her.

The truth of war is difficult to understand and relate to. Reading about the dedication and difficulties faced makes it more real. Outstanding integrity and courage is rarely promoted or recognized today.

I am fascinated by WWII and the sacrifices and strength of 'ordinary' people who accomplished the extraordinary! This novel, based on true experiences, brought history to life...and made me wish once again I paid attention in school!

As many stories come out from WWII there are some that become salient due to the exceptional characters involved. This is an easy to read book. No baloney. It depicts the life of an extraordinary woman, Virginia Hall, who risked her life to save others and who went beyond duty to play a vital role to support operation Overlord. Virginia Hall never looked for special treatments or become a star in a parade of heroes. She was always dedicated to her work 100% in spite of having lost a leg before the War. One of those people born with outstanding courage who wanted to be inside the fight as she did as a high level spy in the heart of occupied France. Anyone interested in WWII should read this book to understand that in spite of a shameful collaboration of many French people and its gendarmerie there were a bunch of French patriots who fought with courage against the enemy occupying their country. Good Reading all to the very end.

I was disappointed. This is such a great story, but I don't feel like it was told here. While there were some interesting tidbits, the meat of the story wasn't really shown or told in this book. And there were unanswered questions - very frustrating.

Beautifully written with an eye for the general sense of the moments in time . The facts provided gives the reader an appreciation of the challenges which confronted good people as they sought to defeat forces, which traded in fear and destruction!
