As a new vegetarian and aspiring vegan, I read lots of cookbook reviews before deciding to purchase this one. I'm so glad I did! The pictures are beautiful, it's fun to read (Isa has a very accessible and likable personality), full of helpful advice and clear instructions, and perhaps most importantly the recipes are great! I've made 4 of them in the first week and a half of owning this book, and loved them all. There are many more that I'm dying to try! I have two kids--ages 5 and 7--and they have also loved the things I've made so far. Some of the recipes look more kid-friendly than others, but so far they have devoured the meaty beany chili, black bean burgers, alphabet soup, and marbled banana bread. This is seriously my new cooking bible.

I have two of Isa Chandra Moskowitz's cookbooks and they are both excellent! I can't think of a single recipe I've tried that I didn't like. Both her books are probably my most go-to cookbooks. Keep up the great work!

I really wanted to love this cookbook, since I know Isa is one of the vegan pioneers... but I just can't dig into it. The recipes don't draw me in (where are the pictures in a such a huge book), they seem complicated (boiling tempeh still doesn't work for me), and I wasn't all too pleased with the recipes I tried. I continue to come back to the cookbooks by Chef Chloe and Oh She Glows. Sorry to break the trend, but I wouldn't recommend this one.

This is my favorite vegan cookbook of all time and I have a TON. I use this book at least once a week and we have the famous "puffy pillow pancakes" every weekend. They are hands down the best pancakes I've ever had. This book has a place in every vegan's kitchen! Haven't found a bad recipe yet!

I originally picked this cookbook up at the library, figuring I would try a few recipes for some new meal options. I fell in love with it and had to have my own copy because I couldn't check it out for long enough to make everything that I wanted to make.
I own a copy of Veganomicon, and while I do like the recipes, some of them are a bit time consuming and require ingredients that aren't always easy to find. Isa Does It has recipes with ingredients that are easy to track down and don't take forever to cook. Every single recipe I have made so far has been relatively easy and has been a hit with my family (with the exception of the muffin pan mini omelets in the breakfast section; I'm convinced I must have messed them up because all of the other recipes are so good). We started with the Puffy Pillow Pancakes because my two-year-old loves pancakes and waffles. They are the best vegan pancakes I have tried. My husband has been vegan for eight years, and breakfast is my favorite meal, so we have tried a lot of vegan breakfast items, both at home and out at restaurants. Some other breakfast items from the cookbook we have tried since the pancakes are the Sinfully Wholesome Waffles and the Banana Nut Muffins (we chose the whole wheat flour option, and the muffins were so yummy). Two other favorites that have already earned their spots in the vegan recipe hall of fame in our house are the Red Lentil Thai Chili (this makes a ton, so you will have plenty of leftovers) and the Curried Peanut Sauce Bowl (the sauce is creamy and delicious). I know I'm gushing over this cookbook, but seriously, it's the best (and I have a whole shelf full of vegan cookbooks that have been put to the test over the years). Whether you are vegan or a meat eater, buy this cook book. You won't be disappointed.

This is my first vegan cookbook and I absolutely love it! I love how the recipes are simple to follow and they do not contain any weird, hard to find ingredients. So for everything I have tried was wonderful. I am so glad that I purchased this book and have recommended it to several friends (who are not even vegan).

This is a great book. I was concerned about being able to read the recipes after reading the reviews about the print and color of the pages, but I have not had any problem reading the recipes. Love it!

This is not a cookbook for vegans who substitute. The recipes are brilliant. I am not much of a salad person but that peanut dragon dressing was to die for. Isa Does it is a gorgeous book with tons of highly approachable recipes. The recipes are quite straightforward and the flavors are spot on. A great addition to anyone's cookbook collection (including meat eaters) as the recipes are really for everyone!

Recipes from this & Veganomicon are pretty much all my wife & I cook, and we're not even vegan (she's vegetarian, I'm a lifelong carnivore). The new book is huge, full of great pictures, and the recipes seem to make a TON of food compared to servings from Veganomicon. Whereas we'd often double recipes to have leftovers, with this book we're actually cutting things in half at times. So far we've done jerk sloppy joes (surprisingly good), a sweet potato curry/chili, and a few others. Lots to choose from & for the most part the directions and ingredients are easy to follow & find.
Considering our first exposure to vegan food was a bland, dry, flavorless wrap full of beans & quinoa, Isa's books have been surprisingly tasty & awesome. I tend to add a bit more salt & play w the spices, but most things have been great right from the start. Good purchase if you're looking to cook some healthy stuff that actually tastes good

The directions are clear, the results are yummy, ingredients common and not some 'where the heck do I get that!' items. I've left out some ingredients that are not so good for me and the dishes are still tasty. At least to me. Short cooking times. Number of servings is listed, cooking time and active cooking time. Really like the notes and extra bits of information. She also includes variations which I like; same basic dish but a little of this or that changes it. I highly recommend it.

I work full-time and need quick, tasty & healthy meals that don't use processed foods. I have lots of cookbooks that never get used due to time constraints. This is absolutely the best vegan cookbook I own. Everything takes about 1/2 hour to make and some can be made ahead or partially made ahead for even quicker preparation. My husband and I try to eat the healthiest foods possible, but also need to enjoy what we eat. Again, this cookbook has not disappointed. Since I purchased the book, I have made 1 or 2 recipes each week, We have a grading systems to rate each recipe.....
A=wow, this tastes really good!
B=this is good, but I don't want it every week.
C=I guess it's edible.
D=well, I won't make this ever again!
F=how could anyone eat this crap!?
Every recipe has been an "A", except my husband rated the Curry Peanut Bowl a "B+" Excellent flavors in all recipes. Also her heavy use of spices has put me to shame. I thought I was a pretty good cook, but feel a little lame given the flavor explosions we've been experiencing with her recipes. My husband was sent to work with Red Lentil Thai Chili. When he got home from work, I asked about lunch. He said the large bowl I sent wasn't enough, he wanted more it was so good!!
If you are a busy but health conscious individual, this book is a must have! Also, I can't imagine any carnivore turning down any of these dishes. Very tasty for us so far.

What a lot of fun, interesting recipes. I have been a veggie for thirty years, a vegan just about a month. I love her easy approach to comfort foods! I learn something each time I pick up the book. Thanks Isa!

And this one is for sure my favorite. While Veganomicon is hailed as the best book for beginners, I found that it was way more intensive than I was really looking for to start out. As a single person, I am not necessarily interested in recipes that take over an hour to prepare & cook, nor am I trying to feed an army. This is my recommendation for the best place to start! Many ingredients can be found in regular grocery stores, which is a big help for me. Isa is the main reason I've been weaned off of super processed vegan convenience food, like store bought "cheese" or "sour cream." Check this out first, and then all of her other books!

I have made numerous recipes from this book and have really enjoyed them. red Hot BLTS, yum! Garlic curry potatoes, beet burgers, coconut chana sagg, I used a pound of baby spinach, she gives you an option for kale or spinach and I ate it for days, it was that delicious, chicky tuna salad sandwiches! very satisfying. Loaded with photos, she's into cashew creme, the stroganoff is great. I like the sunflower mac and cheese my daughter didn't but she does not have a high speed blender and thought the texture was grainy. I bought my daughter the book and we often cook via FaceTime together using the book. It's quite lovely to look at too. Let me not forget, cookies and chocolate cake. I never do desserts for health reasons, but I did as I found the recipes to be healthy enough for a dessert and made the oatmeal raisin, kitchen sink cookies and the chocolate cake. Make the cake!! I had not made a cake in 10 years, but I'm making them now. The chocolate cake seems to be the same as my grandmothers sour milk chocolate cake. Dark and great! Easy! Make the cookies too. They are awesome. The Red Hot Blts use tempeh and I usually stay away from soy and gluten in mass, like seitan but, I felt the sandwich is so delicious it's in regular rotation. This is a book to use when you want to treat yourself. Very good.

I have been cooking pretty much solely from this cookbook for the past two weeks. My husband and I have LOVED everything I have made. The Tempeh Meatballs are my new favorite "meat"ball. They are crunchy and perfect. Tempeh Orzilla will be a staple in our house. Lentil-a-Roni is super easy and it makes a ton...I ate leftovers for lunch pretty much all week (and my two year old loved that one, too). I still like the actual recipe for seitan in the Veganomicon cookbook better, but the method in Isa Does It finally got me to figure out how to cook seitan without it looking like brains!
The sweets and breakfasts are awesome...the Just Chocolate Cake is the perfect chocolate cake. My husband's response to Jumbo Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies, "I want to call my mom and tell her how good these are." I'll take that as a compliment. The Sinfully Wholesome Waffles will be my new go-to waffle recipe, as well as the Puffy Pillow Pancakes for pancakes!
I will admit, however, that some of these recipes are pretty ambitious for a weeknight, but a little bit of prep on Sunday goes a long way.
Seriously, if you are even thinking about buying this, just do it. It's my new favorite cookbook by my favorite cookbook author.

In the first week, my mom and sister both "borrowed" this cookbook because they were intrigued by the recipes...and satisfied by the results!
They are even faster and simpler to make than her other collections of recipes. Just as delicious. The stroganoff and lentil-a-roni are weeknight favorites. She gives introductory tips on kitchen essentials for veg cooking and balances meat copycats recipes with original veg inspirations well.

Prompt delivery. It was a gift, but the recipes were so delicious I actually wrote down some of them for myself and I am not Vegan. Easy to understand directions. Wide variety, so as a Vegan you are not limited to the same old thing day after day. Love this cookbook.

Really terrific stuff here ... something for everyone. Clear, concise, funny, a real keeper. We recently have tried Vegan and this has opened our eyes - many great meals abound! The chili with Lentil Beans is sensational. Home made sausage / seitan is a home run!

Bursting with flavor, easy to make, using common ingredients, this is Isa's style. The book is written beautifully and easy to follow. Recipes are thoughtful and don't go heavy on one component to add flavor (some cookbooks add mustard in every veg recipe to give it a kick, and I do not like mustard) variety and simplicity result in the most useful cook book I own.

This is one of the most well thought out cookbooks I've purchased in a long time. In general I usually don't buy entire cookbooks, I don't end up making all the recipes or half of them I don't want to make so I'll just find what I need online or copy from the bookstore. This book however, is the opposite. Every page is worth the purchase. I've only had the book a couple of weeks so I can't speak to everything in it, but I've read all the intro stuff and looked at every recipe and I would make every one of them, except one or two that have mushrooms as the main event and that's cause I don't really like my fungi friends. If you are at all familiar with Isa's tone and writing style you are treated to more of the witty, funny and corky comments and stories for every recipe as well as her fabulous tips. As it says in the title and she later elaborates in the intro, these recipes are really for any day of the week and they come together quick. It's fabulous. So what are you still doing, reading this review, go hit the purchase button and be amazed at the ease these quick, yet delicious recipes come together!
For those wondering what sort of recipes you get, she has different sections: soup, salads, pasta/noodles, bowls, stews, stir-frys, comfort, breakkie, dessert and a small chapter on making proteins such as setain. I've made a soup, a pasta dish, bread, and nachos from the book this far and I've been blown away with every bite!

Wow! The best vegan cookbook we've ever tried. We've made at least 20 recipes from this book and can't wait to try more. If you've wanted to move toward vegan cooking but felt overwhelmed with trying to figure out what to eat, this cookbook is for you! So good, so easy, so well explained. I can't recommend it enough.

Excellent recipes without a doubt and yes, I have actually tried them !! I am not just speculating that they will be good. I personally do not like seitan, tofu, and fake meat strips and there are a number of recipes that use these items. While I am experienced enough to find a substitution in the way of beans, lentils, falafel, black bean cakes, et al I would like to see less of those. I am also not crazy about recipes that use flour and there are more than a few. AND .... being over 40 and needing bifocals, the fonts are really challenging to read at times. That said, I would certainly recommend this book to vegans and non vegans alike. It is by far one of the best cookbooks out there and Isa has a great sense of humor weaved into her work.

This is the best vegan cookbook for a starter vegetarian/vegan cook. I love to cook, but we recently became vegetarian at home because one of my teenagers wanted to stop eating meat. In has delicious recipes for a number of traditionally meat containing foods and does not rely on processed meat alternatives, so the foods taste good, whole and hits all the right notes.
