I read this novel after having previously read Defending Jacob, Landay's best-selling more recent effort. I didn't know what to expect from the author's debut but found it to be tightly crafted, suspenseful and thoroughly interesting. Very good character development and a storyline that kept me poised to find out what would transpire next. I enjoyed reading this book.

I purchased this book after reading his fabulous book Defending Jacob. Unfortunately, I found this book difficult to finish. It started off well, but I lost interest in the characters and didn't finish it.

This novel kept me spellbound. I found myself trying to figure out what was going to happen but was unable to outwit this wonderful writer. What a pleasure to read his work! I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Good yarn - nothing really special. The end is unpredictable and thought - provoking -- bur I found getting there a little slow and somewhat disjointed. If you want to read a masterpiece by William Landay, read Defending Jacob.

My mistake was that I read this book after reading Defending Jacob, William Landay's most recent novel, and expected the same level of writing. It fell short by far. The story was convoluted and the characters were not well developed. There was the same shock element with unexpected turns in the story, but it just didn't do it for me.

I really enjoyed Defending Jacob so was looking forward to reading Mission Flats. I found the plot to be weak and the characters either unrealistic or predictable. If you haven't read Defending Jacob, do. The haunting question of do we really know our own children and how far would we go to protect them is one that will parents wondering.

I throughly enjoy William Landay's books!!! Recently I was looking for a good book to start reading, and wasn't sure where to start. Then I remembered reading "Defending Jacob", which blew my mind a year ago. So I picked up "Mission Flats" in hopes it was at least enjoyable. And it exceeded my expectations!

Mr. Landay is such a visual writer. I feel like I am literally there at every scene meeting each of the characters myself. And he humanizes everyone - so no one is ever completely good or bad. His stories mimic life in that way, which is why you as the reader understand the actions that are performed, whether they are right or wrong. He leaves you wondering, "what would I do in that situation". And I love that you are guessing until the very end!!!!

I don't want to give the story away, but you should definitely read "Mission Flats" and "Defending Jacob"!! I guarantee you will not be disappointed. One of my next reads, which I look forward to, is Landay's third book! I can't wait : )

Nothing remarkable about this book. Remarkable books I read again. Typical gang members doing typical things. Nothing new here. There was an element of suprise which I liked. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery there are a number of surprises throughout, especially the ending...I don't know if that says more about me and my limitations pertaining to solving mysteries or to the author's skilled writing.

Clever writing, twists, but the last scene is a downer. I have been rewriting in my mind ever since I read it. Till then I would have given it ten out of ten. Wonderful writing in the best tradition of nails bitten etc. A really good book if you like being thoroughly tricked out of your ideas about whodunnit.

Landry's hero is a complex and appealing character, who is vulnerable and honest about it. As the story progresses he is forced to face his own dark side, even while discovering the decency in some of the "villains".
