I recommends this book to anyone who admires unique adventure. Though there is of course fiction, there is much historical truth and fact. Truly a page turner filled with nail biting anticipation. Fantastic experience which will no doubt keep you very entertained.

I really enjoyed the book. It was well written and compelling. What endless and ancient tales center around the Silk Road. Wish I could find more on the same subject but we will never know all about that ancient era.

Love the time period and the story around real events. You feel the vastness of the country back then and it's beauty. Throw in Mongols a romance and some Knights with there own ideas and you have a great time on the Silk Road.

A great charging plot. The place of religion in the life and death of a government/society.

But, please! I know everyone involved know that a stallion can not lower her head. I'm having a great time and then the action must stop, while I make sure I'm not missing something.

But on the whole, I liked it. I'll probably give this brand another try.

This is a surprisingly good read. It certainly covers a part of the world that I know nothing of. It is a very long book (Kindle readers - a draw-back - no identification of foreign terms until the end of the book.) It's an intriguing tale and is very well spun out.

Captivating tale taking place during the expansion of the Mongol Empire. It seems to be historically accurate and is presented from the perspective of a knight traveling to the court of the great Khan.

I enjoyed the book. The plot was rather implausible and a bit convoluted. However, the interaction between the knight and the priest (envoy) was really good!! The love story was shaky at best. I also enjoyed the historical background. Considering some of the weaknesses of the novel, I couldn't rate the book five stars.

I found this book really interesting. It dealt with a place in time that I had not explored previously. There were many characters in this story and it did take me a little while to become familiar with each one. Once I did, they were fascinating…each one so very different. Stick with this book…it is very good.

Falconer's vivid, fascinating evocation of Europe and Asia in the time of The Crusades is clearly the product of extensive research. More importantly, the author succeeds, as he did in "Anastasia", in adopting archetypal figures and bringing them to life as flesh-and-blood characters. In "Silk Road" Falconer also covers vast terrain - both figuratively and literally - in an economic fashion, maintaining a bristling pace throughout and offering a glimpse of another world and time that is almost cinematic in style.

I thoroughly enjoyed SILK ROAD. Set in a very interesting time and place, I learned something in every chapter. The characters were real and their relationships with each other, their leaders, and their faiths, made this a wonderful reading experience

This is a fantastic, beautiful, and captivating story. This is a story I will remember for a long time after reading it. The editing, however, left a lot to be desired. As long as you are intelligent enough to to your own editing in your head, this is a great book! Read it for the story, not the words.

I enjoyed the story and wish there were a sequel. The problem for me is the author uses the wrong people as the protagonists. Tartars are not the same as Mongols. The author uses the word "Tartar". When it he word is actually "Mongol".

Josseran, a Knight Templar is assigned to protect William of Augsburg, a pompous emissary from the Pope to the prince of the Tatars, the Great Khan.
Khutelun, daughter of a lesser khan, is assigned to escort William and Josseran on their journey from Acre to the Khan’s capital.
Khutelun and Josseran each believe their journey will end in Persia, but it extends much farther than that. They also fall in love. Both are strong-willed and highly skilled. Both are caught in the role they have been assigned by their culture, but neither will bend to become just what others expect. Fine story, complex and interesting characters, all set in the clash of cultures and politics in their time. And like all good historical fiction, totally believable. And the perfect ending for setting up a sequel! I'm ready for that if Mr. Falconer is!

I would have given this book five stars, except the ending was unsatisfactory.....we are left to guess whether the main characters made it, or not. One assumes they did, but I wanted to know that they did! Other than that I loved the book!

Faulkner tells an interesting and well researched story. The narrative does not lag as I looked forward to each new page and chapter. The characters are believable and the history of the era are brought to life.

Silk Road was a very good read, interesting, but long and detailed. I found myself going back and reading chapters a second time just to keep up with the characters and the terribly long trip they embarked on.

The story keeps you interested from start to finish. The book allows you to make a voyage by the Silk Road and will describe in detail each place where the characters go by. The characters are very well characterized and their way of development is consistent with what they think.

Wonderful book. Excellent information and descriptions of the West meeting the East: cultures, geography, food, dress, travel, religion, government. The story ties all the informational material together in a most interesting read. This was a real pleasure.

Was very interested through the first half or so of this book, but got bogged down. Too much on-the road-again detail. Thought they would never get to their destinations. Just lost interest after awhile.

This book was well paced with fascinating characters. It did very well tying in the history and geography of the period. Overall, it was just a great story. But the ending fell flat. The book spent too much time on the horrible death of Chin princess Miao-yen, while leaving the final fate of the main characters open to speculation. However, I'd be willing to read a sequel that finished their story.
