I find the book CHANGE YOUR BRAIN, CHANGE YOUR LIFE so impressive that I plan to buy more copies to give to family and friends. Dr. Amen includes sound, verifiable medical research about the complex human brain that is easily understood by laypeople, such as I. He identifies many common but burdensome conditions such as ADD, OCD, Worry, Anxiety, Fear, Motivation, Control, etc. along with more complex mental diseases and offers concrete recommendations. The strategies for killing ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts) are excellent. Other techniques are life-enriching. I highly recommend this book for family concerns, educators (my field), and obviously, medical professionals. He writes with personal observations and gracious understanding.

This book has been great! Makes me much more tolerant of those I have been judgemental about. I feel compelled to give everyone I know this book, but that would be obsessive wouldn't it! I highly recommend it if you have family members who are having difficulty with ADD, drugs or maybe a tad dysfunctional. Dr. Amen is an outstanding, caring individual whom I trust. My reason for reading the book was because, as an adult, I have ADHD.
It doesn't go away and he has done extensive research on ADHD; has offered tremendous information on TV and in his book about brain health.

I would recomend this book for anyone that wants to change things about their personality they would like to change. Excellent reading, A little hard to get into at the beginning, don't give up, keep going.

This book is so informative. It has given me empathy for people that otherwise I had disdain for. I've read it and reread it over and over. Thank God for people like Dr. Amen who wouldn't give up. I've shared this info with many others, and one retired school psychologist said, "I knew those kids were not bad kids, but I didn't know why."

I am so thrilled that something exists somewhere to pin point the cause of so many symptoms children and adults struggle with today. Maybe in the future it can be an accepted method of medical practice as opposed to trying a buffet of medications to treat the symptoms which result from a brain that is either over or under active. It is technical and has pictures which I do not easily understand, however, it is not filled with medical jargon that bogs the reader down. As an educator, I finished the book realizing I can do nothing to help my kids who suffer from a brain that is not healthy in all its parts, but I do have a greater understanding of what may be causing their behaviors and that gives me more patience and compassion to work with them. Dr. Amen does offer layman tools to support each aspect of helping restore the brain to a normal condition and I plan to use those. (music, killing the ANT's)

Should be required reading for everyone who thinks that they OR THEIR LOVED ONES may have any kind of mental or emotional disorder, from ADD to BPD, and everything in between (depression, anxiety, need to be right, controlling personality, you name it). If your spouse tends to be a pain in the ass, chances are there's something in here that'll help you understand.

This book is great. It helped me adjust my negative patterns by explaining the way brain injuries & infections cause those problems. It also tells some CURES and foods to help change negative behavior. It explained childhood injuries (that I received 62 years ago) that resulted in my problem behavior all my life. NO doctors or psychiatrists ever found out the cause of my behavior, so I was just branded odd-strange-or weird and wrote off. I've seen many other men like me when waiting in the doctors waiting rooms year after year. None of us ever got help other than meds and sent on our way. Wish this book's information was available to me 40 or 50 years ago. I would have had a much better life.

This book will make you want to change your brain! Surrendering caffeine was my answer. I would consume coffee or even caffeine pills to get going in the morning. I have surrendered these after reading the good doctor's book. I still consume it in lower doses but have reduced my gross intake considerably. I feel it has made a considerable difference for me. Perhaps it will for you as well.
The book presents the results of what was groundbreaking scanning techniques for studying brain function. Dr. Amen compares the brain function of ADHD, chemical abusers and "normal" brains. The images create a visable difference and that is where the Dr. develops his conclusions.

An interesting book on the effects of drugs and medication on the brain. A method of treatment that allows the brain to heal and change to allow the brain to be changed improving the life of sufferers of various brain disorders. I liked its outline of various disorders and how the brain operates during various episodes and the effect on the brains structure when drugs are taken.

Dr Amen really does change your life. He makes you look at situations in a totally different way and help you figure out whats best for you and your treatment. Before you go on any pills or start some crazy life changes READ THIS BOOK! I can't recommend it enough! I have had numerous friends (ones with a lot of problems and ones with a seemingly normal not too many problems life) and they all loved it! If you know someone or are someone who has a negative side this book will also help you to change that and talk back to those negative feelings. You will forever remember what you read in this book and can take these suggestions and problem solving techniques with you through out your whole life and life time.

Interesting book. Not quite what I expected though. Lots of case studies and descriptions of what medications he prescribed.
I hoped for more on the natural side of how to improve your brain, eg: Diet,- but it dosen't touch on that too much except to mention that we need high protein/low-carb. If you have a specific ailment and are looking for info on how to treat it then this is a good book for you. Also, it does touch on how music and goal-setting can be good for brain health. I found this helpful. But the bulk of the book is case studies and what prescription meds he issued! I don't regret buying it even though I think it could heave been better: ie, - more in-depth info on the natural side of things like music, diet, smells, natural remedies... and less on prescription meds.
