Excellent, in-depth, and unique take on the superhero genre. This is not your typical 200 page novel. It is a very long book that keeps you engrossed from the beginning. The only negative is that there are grammatical errors in the book if you are the type to be picky. However, the authors ability to completely draw me in me in to this world made overlooking those errors quite easy. If you are at all interested in the superhero genre then you MUST give this book (and series after you get hooked) a try!

I like the world presented here- something that answers many issues raised in The Incredibles without copying the movie. The characters are rounded and memorable. The story flows well and seems well- paced. These things are only helped by the book being long enough to allow the story and characters to bloom. The text is pretty much free of typographical and grammatical errors.

Most importantly, the book was enjoyable, a good light read. I think it might be appropriate for high school and older, as there is a not insignificant amount of underage drinking (onscreen) and premarital sex (offscreen). That said, I will look for future books in this series.

Enjoyed this a lot, interesting twists on a the concept that take it out of the pack. Good character development. The character naming in the first couple of pages had me concerned for a few moments, but then that actually played well into the rest of this book and the next one. Can't wait for year three!

Great book, clearly shows the angst and awkwardness of teenage years, its bad enough for normal people but imagine having superpowers to have to deal with also. Nice diverse cast, not the stereotypical "superman" syndrome. Great plot twist and surprises. Shows great insight into what it might be like to have superpowers and be unsure of yourself.

Really, really entertaining read. Drew does a great job of differentiating the characters and giving them their own personalities. I enjoyed it a lot, and can't believe he wrote and published this a chapter at a time, considering the coherency of the overall piece.

Awesome. A few typos, but fewer than most. Other than that nit, an overall great feel-good read. Interactions between the main characters feels real. Length of the book is a plus. I've spent significant amount more on books that were much shorter and less enthralling. I've purchased the 2 sequels and the offshoot novel and anxiously await the next installment

Fun read. Love the misfit hero group. All the Main Characters are well thought out and have great personalities. They are intelligent characters and don't ever get dumb just to move the plot along. Well written and great to read.

I love the story line and characters and could not wait to read the rest if the series. However the second book seemed to have so much more bad language I could not finish it. Was that really necessary? Yes I know bad language is everywhere. But I do not want to read it! Do you have a clean version?

Read four superhero novels when I first bought my kindle. Only two of them were well written, this and Intention (The Fog Bastards). The other two (which I won't link directly) needed editors and cement to fill their plot holes. These two were well worth it, nicely written, good plots, enough action to keep you turning the pages. Sort of steals from Harry Potter (go to school, each book is one year), but there's no other Hogwarts allusions that I spotted, and anyone who has been to college lately knows that just having blue hair wouldn't get you a second look!

Enjoyed the book. The heroes "in-training" were characters you want to care about-not perfect but human. It reminded me of the tv show only better. It fits the pattern of today with academies or universities and not only did they deal with superpowers but growing up too

A fast moving story with strong, engaging characters. The writing was quite good, with only a few editing errors slightly interrupting the pace. I'm happy that the story, although obviously to be continued, did not end as a cliffhanger. I will most definitely read the second part of this tale.

Excellent story, deep characters, and a way of looking at a world with people with powers that I've never seen before.

It could use a good editor, BUT, the story is so good you don't care. Already bought and finished book 2, and chomping at the bit for book three.

I really liked the character development, and the interaction within a collegiate environment.

Yes, there were a handful of typos, but almost every book will have at least one or two(if it has any sort of length to it).

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to be surprised by a book, and can handle laughing out loud when reading.

I started reading this book (and series) because I can't get enough of Drew's writing style. I normally would not find this kind of world very engaging, however Drew has a real way with words and creates engaging characters. I look forward to read I g more.

A nice blend of characters, an interesting premise and powers with depth.

All the powers in this book have limits & strengths that set them apart from ordinary comic book supers. The only exception is Alise, I doubt that will last past the third book. I can't think of any reason that I won't buy the next book.

I really enjoyed this book. While clearly an earlier piece of work in his career, as evidenced by his sometime clumsy sentences, or the casual treatment of important character developments, the plot was fun and the powers ingenious. Plus, the characters greatly grow on you.

Like some others have mentioned, it does have some misspellings and omitted words that distract in places and some parts of the story were not paced consistently. Nonetheless, I found myself really enjoying this first book.
The author has a very interesting take on the Super-hero genre, and some refreshingly new takes on some old themes and characterizations. For an new, indie author, it seems to be a great start to an intriguing world and I look forward to reading Year 2.

I thought the story line was well developed and the characters were engaging and well developed. I kept reading because of these two things, it was enjoyable but the story needs a serious editing. There were so many mistakes that are distracting and annoying and shows poor professionalism. Most of these articles and sentence switching and dropped articles and spell correction errors should have disappeared with any attempt to reread the work so this was very saddening. Still very enjoyable just wish it would have received some serious proofreading.

Okay, I admit it -- I like books about super-heroes! And this book, originally a web series, tells one heck of a great story with LOTS of supers! Supers in training, that is -- teens/young adults learning to use their powers to their best advantage at a secret training facility hidden in a college. Wow!

This was a seriously fun adventure read. Enjoyed it front to back and can't wait for the saga to continue. Just needs a proofreader to take care of a couple issues. (And personally I could do without some of the gratuitous swearing but I am probably in the minority here.) Congrats to the writer - keep it up!

I'm currently reading the second book in the series. This is a good read! The book(s) could use some polishing (I good editor would have caught the numerous grammatical errors), but that doesn't take away from the enjoyability.

A fast pace and interesting premise. Conceptually appealing with room for follow on works in the series. Well described characters and settings provided a good mental image throughout. This is more for the Sci-Fi fan than a fan of fantasy.

The characters were very colorful and well developed. The story had a unique way about it and was something slightly different than your average hero book. I plan to get the next book and have heard the third book is out also.

This was a very good book! Am already planning on buying the year 2 book. Very well written, lots of excitement, great cast of characters! First part of book was hard to get through, but hang in there, the book is well worth reading!

I really enjoyed this book, but given the number of main characters, and the way there powers develop I suspect there is a tabletop RPG probably Champions session that inspired the story. That being said I wish I could have been playing in that session because the book tells a great story, and the characters are great, and I like how while the characters are powerful they still have to work with what they've got and struggle to find new, and intelligent ways to utilize their abilities.

I so thoroughly enjoyed this, I actually feel bereft at reaching the last page. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. If you're into Super Heroes, this is for you! I wonder if Captain America went to this school.

The plot is deeper than one would expect. It keeps you guessing, with enjoyable twists and turns. The main characters are believable. You find yourself rooting for them in their daily struggles. Anxious to read Year 2!

Really excellent story. This is a really well thought out story. The long length is rare and the price is really inexpensive for the quality of the story. I really recommend this book to anyone who likes superhero type stories with well developed characters and story plot.

Engaging characters and a really good storyline make this book a discovery. I will be following up on the series and on this author. Hopefully the editing issues will ease as the author gains experience.

A great story with strong character development and lots of interesting if somewhat predictable twists. The author has real talent in sucking you in early and keeping the story moving quickly between key events. Even without dwelling on the in between action you still get plenty of character development and background on all the very interesting key people.

Like the others have said, this book is not short. But, in this world of 'slap out a story and make some money,' I rather enjoyed it being so lengthy. The subject of the story was fresh and provided a new spin on the super-powers genre and I would like to have given it a higher rating. However, there were just too many spelling errors, grammatical mistakes and, worse of all, inconsistencies. It seemed the author especially had trouble with the Hershel/Roy character. I won't spoil the reading for you by going into it...you'll find it yourself. But no matter about the negatives, I enjoyed the book and will buy his second one in the series (hopefully, Mr. Hayes will hire a competent editor this time). Oh! I almost forgot....I enjoyed the author's biography at the end of the book as much as I did the book. Very funny, sir!
