The second novel in the series picks up where the first left off and continues to develop the Melbrook 5 in new and amazing ways. The writing is much cleaner than the first which helps the story really fly by. If you like super heros and coming of age stories then this one is for you.

This book is amazing, it has every element needed to make a great book and more. It added so much since the first book and just written too well. All the characters are liked in their own right and play their roles very well. Looking forward to the third book!

Very Much worth the Purchase price. The books pace might come as slow to some since the focus is on the characterization rather than the action, but for me that is perfect. These books are LONG and the price is dirt cheap. I can't think of a better value reading wise. The books are so cheap that you should just buy them even if you aren't normally into superhero stuff.

That said this book is not a case of getting what you paid for. You get a whole heck of a lot more than what you paid for! Actually I kinda feel like I ripped poor Mr. Hayes off. That said if you still aren't sure, he has the books online at http://www.drewhayesnovels.com/superpowereds/ . Yep, the books are there, free, to read. Me, I'll spend the chump change to support the Mr. Hayes. Also I much prefer reading on the kindle than having each chapter on a separate page. Reading Year 3 as it gets posted up has definitely made me appreciate the e-book format. I really can't wait till Corpies and Year 3 are finished and get the e-book treatment!

After a disappointing Year One volume, I picked this up hoping to find the usual Drew Hayes goodness. And sure enough, Year Two improves by leaps and bounds. This is thanks to the characters dealing with higher stakes, and their personalities becoming more developed, as well as the main plot finally kicking into full gear.

No more chapters wasted on the dull routine of college life and post-teen romance. Well, some, but here they are sprinkled as necessary, while the bulk of the story sees our heroes-in-training coming to grips with their powers and sometimes their very sense of identity.

Hayes' knack for teasing a bigger picture behind the immediate scope of his stories shines as well here. If Year One hinted at some nefarious ongoings in the background and a mysterious backstory, Year Two is when these come to the forefront and the pieces start falling together.

I'm very glad I continued with this series. At the time of writing this, I'm already into Year Three.

After last couple of years of devouring through various fantasy series (reading about one a week), this is the first book/series that compelled me to spend time to put up a review.

Yes i loved comics when I was younger (i am 30+) and I thoroughly enjoy most of the superhero flicks that have been churned out in last few years (other than ones directed by Snyder who imho just doesnt get the heart of the characters). One of the hidden gem that came out few years ago was this movie called Sky High with a school for training the superheroes of future (with right mix of high-school drama, action, humor and heart)

What author has done in this series is taken all these elements and spread them across tons of characters. Sure there is one character who seems to be central to main storyline, but even minor characters are given small snippets of screentime where you get to see their thoughts, their insecurities and their ghosts of past affecting their actions in present. This really helps in appreciating the various dynamics that author is playing with and makes the whole experience that much more immersive.

In short, this is the best series in terms of sheer fun quotient that I have read in ages. I am actually sorry to think that it will only be a 4 book series because frankly the world Mr Hayes has imagined has enough stories in it to last a lifetime! Eagerly awaiting Yr 3...

Mr. Hayes tells a strong, complex, and deeply intriguing tale. He has mastered the almost impossible task of weaving many many individual characters seamlessly into one extremely well thought out plot. The one aspect I find most compelling is my complete inability to predict where the story is going next - which is quite an achievement. I probably read as much as I breathe, and finding an author who can craft a story I am unable to predict is a true gem. At the same time, I find myself in the odd predicament of not desiring the demise of any of the characters. Even in my own books there is the occasional urge to drown one of my characters in caterpillars or have them run over by a train. (Hey, just because I write them, doesn't mean I like them) Even the 'bad guys' of this series are compelling.

This not your run of the mill super hero book. Neither is it a simple or easy read. Merely attempting to follow the logic and strategy of Nick is worth the price of admission. Settle in for a good, long, thoughtful read. This guy can write.

UGH! I LOOOOOVE this series. Just, really…it’s so much fun and so good!

Same level of writing and story as the previous book was, but we get more details, more plot development, more character development, more inter-character development….it’s just really good! One might even think that there might not be enough story or plot to develop from the first book, but you would be wrong. I’m so enthralled by how creative Drew Hayes is with the creation of this world and his characters. I’m so excited to listen to year three!

The narrator is still knocking it outta tha park too! McCarley is just FANTASTIC with his voice changes and inflections. If you pay close attention to him narrating this story, then you will be able to tell it’s a dude throwing his voice to sound like a girl for some of the characters. But, if you are actually listening to the story being read, you completely loose perception of that fact. He’s convincing and it’s astounding to me.

Turns out, Mr. Hayes has been honing his craft writing web serials for years, and is just now making it possible for us to compensate him for the great storytelling by buying ebook compilations of his storytelling.

Normally, I'd try to go on a bit about the quality of the writing, but I'm just going to say two things -

1) Yes, since I gather he has no editor, there are a few lingering typos. For books of this length, though, I'm accustomed to seeing one or two in legacy published novels as well. They are few and far between, so just keep reading,

2) Be warned: if you read this and the first story in the series, you are going to be waiting eagerly for the next stories in the series.

Of course, in regard to #2, that's the good sort of problem to have. :)

I'm more used to writing academic reviews than book reviews but felt this novel deserved one. I had read 'Super Powereds: Year 1' and was quickly drawn into the story so felt the sequel was definitely worth the investment. How right I was. The author draws a tight plot and successfully walks the tightrope between angst, humour and action with well detailed characters and enough suspense to keep you wanting to turn pages faster just so you can see what happens. As quality young adult fiction - or for anyone of any age who loved reading comic books growing up - this novel will hit the spot dead on. If anything, I think Drew Hayes has done an even better job with this sequel than the original and that was already a high bar to aim for. I very much look forward to seeing the next instalment in the series.

The first thing that comes to mind about Drew Hayes is that he clearly loves and respects his characters. He also knows them well and makes sure we come to know them over the course of the story also. Great descriptions. Tons of original and interesting powers. Characters who, despite all of the power in the world, are so familiarly human with all of our frailties also. I read the first of the series, Super Powereds: Year 1 and just loved it. Now I can't wait for the 3rd book in the series! The only complaint I have is that there were a fair number of typos, but for a story that self-edited and fantastically long, it just wasn't much of an issue. Oh yeah, did I mention that this thing has well over 800 pages? Plenty of meat for us readers.

Nice concept, like the dialog and character development but one thing I noticed.
Maybe it's due to being a father but every father (from book 1 & 2) are evil or seriously flawed characters whereas the mother(s), steadfast bastion(s).
Yes, there are good men but they are single and men to take example from.
This series is great from taking it from the adult-decision-making-high-school-students (kids make mistakes and too wise for their age) to realistic various cultured college.
Note to author. Sometimes men leave the homes not to get away from the kids but the mother. There were a lot of men in the 1990s who were blocked to see the kids due to hurt emotions from the mother so its not black or white.
Still, I'll borrow book 3 from the library.
NOTE: Whey is Google search state that Drew died in 2007?

Full disclosure, I have listened to all audio books by Drew Hayes so far. So it is safe to assume I am a fan and I think this one is another winner. Year One was very interesting because it introduced the world and concept. Typically, after the novelty has worn off, sequel books suffer from the dreaded sequelitis. But in the case of this series Book 2 was as engaging as the first book. I might even prefer it more. As with the first book Vince is the central focus, but the rest of the cast all get their moment to shine. I found myself most interested in the Nick, Hershel-Roy, and Alice POV chapters.. It is a very long book and I really didn't want it to be over at the end. Looking forward to Book 3 on Audible!!

I really enjoyed this. That being said - as he makes clear - these books are not for kids. There is definitely some language - a little too much dependence on alcohol - most of the college students who don't drink regularly in this book eventually wind up getting pushed into drinking or getting drunk. So I would hesitate to recommend this to an older teen who might be feeling enough peer pressure as is... The world is very imaginative and well-defined. He is very good at characterizations. The typos were not bad enough to bother me although there definitely still are a few (it is a shame you can't edit your own kindle version for little errors.

I normally dislike cliffhangers for the very reason that the superhero genre is laden with them and they make the waiting painful. Fortunately, Mr. Hayes has already completed the next book and it’s a simple matter of clicking on the next item in my kindle. The characters he outlined in book 1 have been beautifully fleshed out in book 2. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Honestly, this book would be far better if all the extraneous words were edited out. There are many chapters that could be deleted and not impact the plot at all. I found that I skipped about 40% of the book that didn't support the plot. I do enjoy writing that draws you into the world of the characters and carries you along through their trials, joys, successes and failures. I do not enjoy simple accounts of going to a dance or getting ready for a float trip on a river. I felt cheated that I was asked to believe that reading passages about what movies they should watch, what swim suit to wear and what the guys packed to go camping was at all important.
This book is good, but would be much better if reviewed by a professional editor. Well that's my two cents anyway.

Awesome writing. Great Editing. Exceptional character development. I'm pretty sure Drew has a split personality. He is able to understand and convey the thoughts and motivations of many different characters. I suspect that his secret Super-power is Empathy. When I tried to describe the series to a friend, the words that first came out of my mouth sounded like "young adult" book. I can't say that it's not a Y-A book, but it doesn't read like one. Fantastic!

The Super Powered books are so engaging that I found myself glad to be stuck in a doctor's waiting room for an hour with nothing to prevent me from reading! Entertaining, funny, and with great plots and characters, this story is impossible to put down! I just finished 2nd year and can't wait to start year 3.

I am consistently impressed by this series. The characters keep evolving and the good Mr Hayes is playing many of his plot cards to his chest. Love it- and am waiting for the whole year 3 to be published.

Super Powereds Year 2 was a fantastic read - certainly a well thought out follow up to Year 1. The characters grew in both their powers and relationships and the overall plot became more complex. Can't wait for Year 3.

Another great year of adventure and growth with the Lander kids. Read this series, but be warned... You will be hooked and the next two years are only web series as of now! The weekly wait can be unbearable because of how well this series is written.

I am simply addicted to the Super Powereds series. The plot depth and character development is well beyond what one would expect for the genre. Though there are some minor proofreading oversights, its a must read from me.

Drew Hayes is the best new writer I discovered in 2013.

Just a fantastic series. The only thing I'm worried about it how long it will take for him to finish the next two years. Write faster Drew!!
