Book 4, Super Powereds: Year 4: Super Powereds

No spoilers, just appreciation for a wonderful read. This book had a lot of everything I love: action, romance; comedy, fantasy, and adventure. I wish it didn’t have to end, but at least I can look forward to living it again when it hits Audible.

This conclusion to the 4 part series was definitely worth the wait. I have enjoyed each of the previous books, but this conclusion was amazing.
There were times where the characters seemed to do too much monologing while fighting; however this is required-- they are heroes!

It's clear that blog/serial writing is working well for Drew as a process, but publishing the final product as-is does a disservice to the reader. While there are many, many storylines that deserve resolution, and others that clearly transition into other book series, there's simply too much here to maintain the pace this story deserves. The attention to unimportant minutiae makes this book plod at many points, and it ends up reading like a slice-of-life tale instead of a superhero epic.

I'm also disappointed by the hand-waving of the romantic relationships; they take center stage in the epilogue, but without sufficient emotional investment earlier on, they feel tacked-on and almost silly. We never, as far as I recall, see a single real moment of romantic or sexual interest in any of the couples, whose relationships play out as passionless if dedicated friendships. We don't need to see sex to feel the heat of attraction, and I don't think this tepid approach was the only way to end up with a YA-friendly result. I ended up feeling no investment in any of their resulting romances, which is a shame.

A good deal of the dialog also felt stilted. Drew's narrative in this series has a serious, highbrow, affected tone that feels like it's coming from a single narrator, and unfortunately many, many characters end up inheriting that tone, using vocab and idioms that are totally out of character for them.

The series is so good that this volume deserves better. It deserves a big, harsh edit that will tighten up the pacing, fix the dialog to be more diverse in tone, and ramp up the romances.

I loved the character development. By now, these guys are like my best friends. To be a bit unfair, I wanted it to go on for about 400 pages more, lol, leaving nothing out. Every Friday, I wear my Super Powereds tee shirt to work! :)

My absolute favorite superhero series has ended. The number of characters and plots was amazing. I cannot wait for Drew to get back to the series and write another series about the class of nightmares.

The 4th book of the SuperPowereds was a great finish to a great series. All of the characters grow throughout all 4 books in ways you wouldn't expect. Liked it so myuch I bought the audio book as well.
