Emotionally spent!
That's how I would describe myself after reading this book.
This is a well-written book that is for the mature audience with a young adult flair. It is written with details and descriptions that only add to the reality. "The Falling of Love" is about the characters of Grace, a typical teenage girl, and Ian, the poor, broken kid from the wrong side of the tracks. They meet, fall in love, and begin the beautiful path of young love. Grace's family takes Ian in and they are happy until something happens to change the course of their lives and future. Moving to L.A. only increases the problems and turmoil this young couple faces. You follow them through their young adult lives and see the course that their path takes them on.
There is intimacy, friendship, love, turmoil, heartbreak, and deceit all wrapped in one fine package. I couldn't put it down. The reality of the story was intense and the emotions that it stirred were immense. Looking forward to more from this author!

The Falling of Love
By: Marisa Oldham

**copy received from author for an honest review**

This book completely blew me away. I was hooked from the first page and could not put it down. Grace was this all-American sweet girl and Ian was the boy that completely did not fit it. Grace saw something in Ian that nobody else did. In the beginning, Grace and Ian’s love was so pure, sweet, and innocent that you just knew they were meant to be together; however, life always has a way of getting in the way.

I absolutely loved watching Grace grow as a person. She was thrown into a world she knew nothing about. She has to deal with what life throws at her and the decisions she makes along the way. I believe she is a very strong person and will continue to grow into a stronger person.

All of the characters in this book are great. I loved them. They all defiantly play a significant part in Grace’s life and heart.

This is a beautifully written story that will take you on an emotional roller coaster of love, friendship, passion, and heartbreak. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens.

I loved this book, seeing all the emotions that Grace and Ian went through and how they loved each other. The characters hooked me in wanting to see where they were going to end up and kept me turning the pages to find out – until it finished with a cliff hanger making me grab the second book straight away.
Grace first sees Ian in her maths class and he is nothing like she has ever seen before, the attraction she feels is instant.
Heading into the cafeteria Ian not seeing anywhere else to sit takes a chance and sits next to Grace and her friend, Ian feels the same instant attraction.
Grace and Ian begin seeing more of each other, you learn more about the background from both Ian and Grace and the problems that they have and why Ian wants to move away to LA when he turns eighteen.
Things are going well for Ian and Grace, they are happy and in love, they decide to cross the rule that her brother Jason set of not sleeping together and he finds out, which results in him telling them both to leave his house. In a split-second decision, they head to LA.
Grace watches Ian battle with his drug addiction, with her and Jayden trying to help him, it finally comes that she decides to leave and Ian promises to stop. With Ian being sober for a while he goes to a gig and Grace’s sister convinces her to check on him, when she arrives at the gig what she sees shocks her and she turn to the arms of the one person she shouldn’t.
Returning to her brother’s house, trying to piece her life together, her brother surprises her and Michelle with one way tickets to Paris. He wants them to live their dreams and go to the best university, so the girls move to Paris.
After months of being missing Ian turns up at Jayden’s house, and Jayden doesn’t tell Grace he has seen him and wants her to move on with her life.
Can’t wait to see where the next book goes after leaving the cliff hanger of Grace finding out Ian is alive.

Reviewer for SN BookReviews - 4 Stars

Grace, the quintessential "good girl", and Ian, the "bad boy" with a lot of home troubles, meet when Ian's father gets a new job in Oregon, and Ian walks into her classroom. To Grace, Ian looks like a rock star. She can't believe that he is interested in her. Ian just can't believe Grace period. He has never met anybody as sweet and innocent as she is. He has plans of getting out of town as soon as he turns 18. His best friend, Jaden, now lives in LA. He has a band and plays clubs. Jaden tells Ian to come to LA, he will fit right in. Grace has no plans of leaving her family at all. Despite this, the two fall deeply in love. Between Ian's father and Grace's brother, they do not have an easy time of it. As events unfold, our two young lovers head for LA. Mired in the rock scene, Ian quickly becomes a victim of it. Although Grace tries her best to forgive him, she eventually does what is best for her. This is a well-written novel that will play on your emotions, the whole spectrum of them, as we follow the couple's journey from innocent young love to just trying to survive in the every day world as they grow. This is well-portrayed with a gritty realism that makes for an intriguing read. The secondary characters, including Grace's sister and Ian's friend, Jaden, were extremely well done. The ending was great and leads us into what's going to happen next. I can't wait to find out.

I have to start out by saying that NA Romance is not something I typically read, but I have to say that Marisa blew me away with her writing and story in The Falling of Love. Too many reviewers will tell you that they experienced a wide range of emotions when reading a book, but this one will require a Kleenex box and someone to hold on to once you are done.

The story starts with teen love and matures into so much more. It will pull at your heart strings, drive up your blood pressure and drop you from a million miles high as you devour the pages absorbing every word. It’s a must read in every sense for every age!

I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to experience real love for the joys, hardships and pain. This is an emotional whirlwind that you will be happy that you were caught up in. Well done, Marisa! I’ll be looking forward to your books in the future!

The story starts out with teenagers Grace Hathaway and Ian Taylor, a miss matched couple as seen by their high school peers. Grace is a gentle beauty who's sweet and on the cheerleading squad where newcomer Ian is the new "rocker" boy in school, and not kindly welcomed. Regardless of what everyone's thinks the two grow to love each other very much.

Their feelings for each other are bottomless, and you would think that it would soar high from there, but it doesn't, and that's because there are undisclosed family circumstances that Ian has found hard to share with Grace. When she's finally informed of his troubles, she sheds new light onto his problem and finds a solution that makes their days happy again. Sadly, it's short lived due to their nonstop longing desire. An emotional pull that interrupts their fairytale world, and forces them to delve into adulthood sooner than later.

From there it only plummets downhill due to a new location and Ian's constant tug of war. On one hand, he has Grace, the love of his life whom he declares he would do anything for; but then, on the other hand, he's fighting an enormous battle for another love that he's finding difficult to end.

The story contains a lot of in-depth situations that will pull at your heart. There are also other noteworthy characters that play significant roles throughout the plot. I find it to be an enjoyable read, and an emotional wrenching love story that will be hard to put down.

The main character is a sweet and talented teenage girl Grace Hathaway who falls deeply in love in one boy. His name is Ian and he pursues his dream becoming a rock star. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it from start to finish. The story feels real and it takes you back to the high school drama. You will fall in love with Grace and Ian as they walk you through their love and everything in between. It was nice to read such a clean love story for change.
I loved the story - every single part of it. Very refreshing, entertaining, romantic and sweet. Something that would touch your heart and make you fall in love all over again. All the revelations in this story would make you glued on your seat and flip through each page until you finish the entire book.
It's the first book I read from the author but definitely won't be my last....

This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. I loved it. Grace is a typical American teen and meets Ian a typical misfit teen. Their love grows throughout the book and is the pure kind of love everyone dreams of finding. All of the characters are well described and their rolls in the story flow together really well. They all play a very important part in Grace's life as well. It was a wonderful book to read since I was able to connect with Grace in many aspects of her relationship with her family and Ian. This book really stirred some old emotions for me. The hardships Grace and Ian endure will remind most of what they went through with their first love, or even their true love. It truly is a great, fascinating story. I couldn't put the book down.

This book was heavy, heart wrenching and left my mind spinning!

Grace, a good girl by nature, is drawn to a mysterious new student Ian. His hair, his clothes and his smile. We are thrown into a story of young love; butterflies and all. But as the story continues those butterflies were no longer because of love but for worry. Abuse, drugs, sex, trust...

One thing I felt was although Grace was strong and always stepping in to save Ian it was, in fact, Grace who needed to be saved. She needed her heart to be sheltered from the damage that was coming. Her love was truly too good for Ian. I had my swoon moments and even giggled like a school girl a couple of times, but as the story got darker and things escalated my love for Ian faded. My heart broke and anger was soon to follow. Every time I read about Ian I just wanted to punch him in the face, but then I would get to Grace and I would want to see her get what she deserve; happiness and love; even if that meant her being with Ian.

I first thought the ending to be choppy, skipping time and rushed to get to the point. I wasn't sure how I was feeling about either character as Grace tried to move on, but I loved how Grace was starting to become stronger with her family behind her, a successful career, a sense of direction and then...BOOM... the ending... OH MY GOODNESS! REALY?!!! My head was spinning and I am not sure I am ready to read on. (but, of course, I will *wink*)

Wow! I loved this book! Such an emotional story of a young girl, falling in love for the first time. I can't remember the last time a story made me cry the way this one did. Marisa Oldham did a great job of showing me what it was like to fall in love. Grace, a sweet, innocent young girl...falls for Ian, the "bad boy" new to her neighborhood. Grace already had to grow up way before her time and then had to go through some very difficult situations with Ian. There were times I wanted to reach right into the book and smack him upside the head and yell at him for what he was doing! (I don't want to spoil it for anyone). Needless to say, I certainly can't wait to get my hands on the next book and see what is in store for this talented young girl! Great job!

Talk about an emotional roller coaster! I don't think I have ever read a book like this before. One minute I wanted to scream at Grace for being so dumb and then I wanted to give her a hug for all she was going through....then I wanted to smack her for again being stupid but in the end I didn't have any hard feelings for her :) My heart broke for Grace and all that Ian put her through, then Jaden came along and I didn't know how I felt about him until the end. I like that the end leaves me wanting more from these characters. I really enjoyed this book! I'm pretty sure I stayed up way too late reading this on a couple nights.

Absorbing and impressive look at love and innocence.
Grace is a high school senior and cheerleader. She's a good student with added responsibilities at home. She's naive and trusting.
Ian's family recently moved to town. He works at an auto shop, has played in a rock band. He's new to the school. There's an instant attraction when he walks into the class he shares with Grace, that grows stronger as they spend time together. They fall in love. Ian faces serious problems; he finally admits them to Grace. Are they able to survive them together?
The beauty and hardships we face daily are woven into this story, with the happiness and heartache they bring. Ms. Oldham shows both in this touching tale. It's well written, you feel the characters joy and pain. It's a cliffhanger that you'll be waiting to continue. I do.

The Falling of Love centers around Grace, a teenage girl, who falls in love with Ian, a boy with a troubled home life. The author did a great job capturing young love and showing how exciting and beautiful a new romance can be. The beginning brought back memories of when my husband and I first started dating as teenagers. Just like Grace and Ian, we fell for each other very hard and very fast. When Ian ends up living with Grace's family, I could relate to that as well because I had lived with my husband's family during my senior year of high school (prior to being married of course). Grace and Ian were then out on their own at a young age just as we were so I really felt for them and for their struggles. It is tough having to grow up so soon, and this book shows that very well. Things get dramatically worse though as Ian embarks on a dangerous lifestyle in L.A. The love they have for each other is strong, but their relationship gets heavily tested.

While the content is intended for mature readers only, the writing style would have otherwise led me to believe it was geared towards a younger audience. Despite that, this book has a really good story that is painfully realistic at times. There are some explicit scenes, but they do not take over. They are used to enhance the story, and they are placed at appropriate times rather than being thrown in constantly for no reason other than to have lots of graphic sex.

It was a book that kept my interest the whole way through, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen. The dialogue really brought the story alive, and the characters seemed very real. I often found myself angry, sad, or hopeful. It was definitely an emotional ride. I'm looking forward to book two!

This book is beautifully written. Marisa Oldham is a very talented writer. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good love story. I honestly didn't think that I was going to enjoy this book. The more I read the better it got. This is a very emotional story. I am glad that I had the pleasure of reading it.
Grace and Ian have a relationship that is real. Their story is beautiful and sad. It is heartfelt and emotional. Marisa makes falling in love with these characters an easy thing to do. You almost feel like you are intruding on someone's personal life.

This is an amazing story of two teenagers and their first love. It's All powerful and all consuming. Ian from an abusive family with a beautiful voice and dreams of being a Rock Star. And Grace who has lost both her parents and raised by her older loving but controlling brother. One thing leads to another as first loves will do and Grace is kicked out of her home. The two ban together and head to L.A. To live with Jadan a friend of Ian. The things they go thru will endear you and break your heart along with them. Marisa Oldham has done a perfect job of making the reader feel like they are right there with them. You'll have to read The Falling of Love to find out what happens and if it's the end of Ian and Grace. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Grace and Ian are high school seniors who fall for one another. This is a story of an intense first love. Young, deep love. In this day and age of selfishness, it is nice to read a book where the main characters are deeply devoted to one another, regardless of their age. Until, as part of growing up, decisions are made that shift the wants and needs of these characters. The reader knows and feels that their love is still there, under all the weight of their situations, but the suspense of it being enough to keep them together will take the reader on a wild ride.

I think this book is a good depiction of a possible real life situation, where the lovers make mistakes throughout their time being together. They win some and I found myself cheering them on, then the lose some, and I found myself hurting like they were.

The pace is calm and descriptive. It is a not a peek into their lives, but a deep view of their situations, putting the reader in anguish when facing the unknown of what is to happen. Then when you least expect it – Wham! You are in a roller coaster ride and the situations become more and more intense, until decisions are made that make the inevitable occur sooner rather than later, but for the better and not the worst.

This is a cliffhanger of sorts, because when you think matters are resolved, the plot thickens again. We will have to read the next book to find out where this brilliant writer is taking these wonderful characters. I strongly recommend this book, albeit is a bit slower pace in the beginning, once things start happening, you will be 200% vested into this story. Don’t wait to get it, because these characters will stay with you for a while.

I loved this book. As an adult it actually brought me back to what it felt like to be young and in love, and how easily that love can be lost. Grace is such a beautiful main character, endowed with a loving and forgiving charm about her. Then you have Ian, the boy who reminds us of our first love. He’s a little off-center, a little bad boy, and very much self-destructive. Their relationship is running full-steam ahead, until they hit some rough patches and have to move to a new town. In the hustle and bustle of Ian’s new found fame, he slips up. Grace, feeling hurt and betrayed… slips up too.

Where does this leave them? Splitting ways, and following different paths, they decide to take time apart. Years later, the book ends on a fairytale reunion having you guessing if they will find the fire inside once again.

I am a sucker for teenage love stories, and this one was no exception. I cannot wait to read the next book to find out if these two fix their injured past and end up together. It was a real page turner with an amazing cliffhanger ending.

The Falling of Love was a wonderful story of first love. When new student Ian comes to town Grace wants to be his everything. Ian a red-headed music crooner had a troubled youth and didn't get along with his parents too well. Grace and her sister Melissa both lived with and was being raised by their brother James. Both and Grace and Ian both had their ups and downs just like many new loves do. They stayed together for a few years and along with that came turmoil and tragedy. Like most first loves you never ever forget that person or the way they made you feel. Although Ian keeps in trouble and is slowly losing his battle I am still Team Ian. Excited to read the next book of this series.

Spoiler Alert contains spoilers of the story.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review for the Beautifully Broken Book Blog.
Grace is a young girl of seventeen years old and is in the cheerleading squad, but not like most teens that are abscessed with teenage life. She has lost her parents at a young age and lives with her older brother who raises her and her younger sister. She lives in a small town and is not unhappy with her life and loves art.
Ian is the boy that is all rock-in-roll and into the longer auburn hair and nice looking guy. He just moved from Massachusetts and is from lower income home, but works at a garage as a mechanic full time to save up to move to be in L.A. as a singer with his friend. His home life is not that good and has a drunk for a dad who has caused him many bruises.
Grace and Ian fall for one another and it is romantic how he takes her to special places instead of the normal movie and diner dates. As time goes on he spends more time at Grace's house and they do become closer, when she finds out his dad kicks him out she gets her brother to take him in. One rule they break is sleeping together and they are caught, her brother is so upset kicks them both out and thus starts their journey to L.A... They make it to his friend's house Jaden and his grandfather and they are accepted like family. Grace finishes high school and Ian works and joins up in the band with Jaden as their singer. Everything is going good till he falls off the wagon and starts doing drugs and taking the wrong path. He tries to kick the habit for Grace with her help, but can he? The story brings out the first true love in everyone's lives that makes you think back on how you felt. It is a very good story on how you never truly get over that first love that captures your heart and how circumstances can change outcomes. I enjoyed reading this story and the emotions come through the pages and the problems that arise are things that happen in everyday life. I have to say this story left me wanting to know more.
