I totally enjoyed this Woods novel. His last 2 were not that
interesting to me. Will Lee, as President, and his wife Kate, head of the CIA, are faced with a serial killer who is knocking off big-name right-wing conservatives. How to find the killer?
Someone in prison knows the answer and wants to help. But Kate is hesitant to use this knowledge. Robert Kinney, the prime investigator, steps forward as a strong character...standing up to his media-hungry boss. We question his success up until the final pages. It was a 2 day read for me.

Having read all of Woods' Stone Barrington novels, I had no doubts that this book would be anything but great!
Will Lee is the President of the United States, and his wife is the head of the CIA. Though they are advertised as the main charaters, I didn't feel that their parts were that involved in the storyline.
To quickly sum up the story, a highly trained assassin is killing very prominent figures in the US government. Throughout the story you will follow those trying to track down this crazed man/woman, as they race this mad person before he/she kills others. And as I hate to give away too much information, just know that this book is a fast read that you will not be able to put down until the end.

The Margin
Woods takes you right to the action within the first few pages. For those that like the hook early and are impatient with complicated plot developement Capital Crimes should satisfy. There are sophisticated twists within the book that make it a good read. The thrill is in the chase.

Joe Wilson is the President, Valerie Plame runs the CIA, her primary objective is to get a pardon for her friend and mentor, who was blackmailed over sex with underage girls (this part is breathtakingly Clintonesque) into working for KGB and who is serving his sentence now.

Some retired CIA pinko vigilante assassinates Jesse Helms, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Novak, Pat Robertson, William Rehnquist and Newt Gingrich.

Everything comes out like a dream, really: every good person is in love and has the most satisfying sex of his/her life, Valerie's friend gets the pardon, the pinko vigilante gets away with murder, the CIA is still penetrated by the Russians - the life is truly beautiful.

There is only one small cloud in the bright sky: Pat Robertson survived the assassiantion.

CAPITAL CRIMES by Stuart Woods doesn't improve the character of Will Lee in the fifth book of this series. The only thing that keeps readers coming back to Mr. Woods's work is the power of his prose.
Without a doubt, Stuart Woods is a fine writer, but the Will Lee series started at the top and has taken a long slop down as he has distanced himself from his roots.

Even though Will Lee didn't feature prominent in this novel, the little he did was very enjoyable. The story was interesting and fast paced. Everyone involved did a wonderful job, especially Kinney. I don't think we've seen the last of him or Fay. I'd love to see them again in a future novel.

Inept writing. It's amazing that Stuart Woods has been so successful. His writing is heavy-handed, clumsy, awkward. The man has no touch, no feel for writing, no style. Reading this novel is like reading a script. No character development; we get no feel for what's going through the characters' minds or why they behave the way they do. The liberals are all wonderful people. The Republicans are all scoundrels who drink too much and are mean to their wives. We end up rooting for the villain because he's the only interesting character in the book.

Having read another Woods book (I am a fan through and through) although the last one that I read (Iron Orchid) was not that great, this one was better. An older novel that introduced Teddy Fay, who continues his quest for the best in Iron Orchid...I found this one to be really good, and something that I am used to Woods writing....reall interesting, good story!!

Introduces the teddy Fay character who is involved in many future stories. Really not compelling and barely interesting but you will run into teddy Fay into future books so you might as well know his story. Just a truly mediocre story

This book can be summed up so simply: Republicans are completely vile and Democrats are the wonderful saviors of the world. I couldn't get past chapter eight. That was enough time wasted on a book that gives new meaning to the term fiction.

Having read 18 of Sanders' books to date, I enjoyed "Capital Crimes" more than most of his works and as much as the "Deadly Sins" series. It moved quickly and was difficult to put down. "Caper" reads in a similar fashion to "Capital Crimes" and I would recommend either book.

The writing, plot, dialogue and character "development" were so appalling I only read this to see how much worse it could possibly get--and it did! Don't even bother to carry this one home from the library.
