I must have read a different version of this book. I disliked all the characters and actually skimmed through the ending just to put myself out of my own misery. I read mostly Zombie/end of the world type books and have found so many good reads out there. I connect with the writer through the characters but not this time. Neither of the women in the book held any interest for me. Removed it from my reading list. I usually re-read a good book but this one would only take up space.

Man this was nothing short of terrible... Ok it's a story about 2 girls friendship in a post apocalyptic world. They both have issues which neither of them really work out then one of them dies ... The end I really thought it would get better but it doesn't

***Caution-May contain possible spoilers, although I tried not to include any during my review****
"Thicker Than Blood" is poised to become the latest true horror masterpiece. Authors Madeline Sheehan and Claire C. Riley nail this unique and unforgettable post-apocalyptic story from two alternating POVs; dealing with a future ravaged not just by the "infected", but citizens who are as psychologically dead as the infected bodies that won't stay dead. This thrill ride focuses on two best friends, Leisel and Evelyn, and their struggle to exist in world where the danger of mindless cannibals is second only to the danger of people whose souls have been destroyed by corruption and wickedness. In this midst of this horror lies a beautiful tale of love and friendship that reach far beyond the old world, it overcomes the difficulties of the new order and takes Leisel and Evelyn to places they could never reach alone.
Imagine if Dorothy had clicked her heels 3 times, repeating "There's no place like home" and woke up from her dream, only to find that her home is no longer like home, in fact, it's a much worse place than a flying monkeys and wicked witch nightmare. What if Dorothy had awaken to a world with no soap, clean clothes, Starbucks, cold beer, and where a plague has turned the majority of the world population into soulless cannibals. Welcome to the nightmare of Evelyn and Leisel, two best friends who are as different as day and night, but need each other as much as the air that they breathe in order to survive.
In the old world just four years ago, before the Vaal Fever had attacked and killed most of the population, Evelyn and Leisel are the wives of two best friends, husbands who treasure and adore both women. After the Vaal Fever becomes a world-wide pandemic, Evelyn and Leisel watch as the world crumples, making deathbed promises to their dying husbands that they'd never give up and to survive no matter what. Both women are left widowed without their soulmates, but time proves that these two women who are as different as the sun is to the moon, are as much a constant, rock, and heart to each other. Leisel and Evelyn take up residence in a small protected town of Fredericksville, but they soon find out that protection comes with a price, a very large price....FREEDOM. Women are no longer equals, in fact they are as much as a commodity as livestock or a pet, and if you are unfortunate enough to have a masochistic pet owner/aka/husband, there isn't a whole lot a gal can do about it.
After a few years of abuse from the town's leader and Leisel's current husband, Lawrence, Evelyn and Leisel have no other choice but to die or flee from Fredericksville, but nothing could have prepared the women of the horrors that lie outside the protected fence surrounding the town. Evelyn and Leisel thought that avoiding the being bitten or eaten by the plague of undeads, known as the infected, would be their hardest problem, but they find out that the misogynist behavior in Fredericksville is not an isolated situation, and that what the infection didn't destroy, mankind does a dutiful job of messing it up with greed and evilness. In the end they leave HeII, but end up residing in Purgatory.
Along their journey, Evelyn who is seen as the strong force realizes that she needs Leisel's softness and perceived fragility in order to prevent her from becoming like the remainder of the heartless citizens. Evelyn is struggling not to become the poor can of creamed corn that nobody wants or loves, but is passed along to someone else. Leisel strives to overcome her self-doubts stemming from three years of physical and mental abuse from Lawrence, and learns that she possesses more inner strength than anyone had credited the mousey, skittish housewife. Leisel also comes to terms that she has been given a second chance at not only life, but also love by an unlikely source, Alex, a man who served under command to Lawrence. As Leisel, Evelyn, and Alex work at providing protection and strength to each other, they also serve to be one another's greatest weakness, and all these outside forces are working diligently to control, manipulate, and own these three survivors. One thing is for sure, survivors who hold on to hope and dream of a better life are as out of place in the new world, and as doomed as the infected.

Thicker Than Blood is not a feel good story. There is no fluff and it’s not easy to read. It’s a brutal, raw, and heart-wrenching story that made my heart race and captivated me from the start. It's a story of survival, of friendship, and of sacrifice. It was one of those books that kept me awake all hours of the night finishing. It was hard to stomach at times, but I loved it.
Leisel and Evelyn were best friends before the infected took over and the world as they knew it changed. Their husbands were best friends, they had happy marriages, good jobs. They had it all. Now they have each other. Their friendship is the only thing that keeps them going some days. No matter what happens in this crazy new world, they’ll have each other.
Lei and Eve are in a place that’s not good for them- a community of sorts that is slowly killing Lei. After something big happens, they find themselves needing to escape. They have two people that help them, Alex and Jami. They thought the place they were was bad (and it was) but things outside that community are just as bad. Some even worse.
You see, in this world where the infected are roaming around, killing anyone in their path, it’s the people you have to worry about. The people are sick. They’re desperate, greedy, violent, uncaring and aggressive. They’re much worse than the infected could ever be. It’s a truly messed up world. Lei and Eve have each other, but they also have Alex helping them. Alex is a character I adored. He’s haunted by some of his past choices. He would do anything to protect Lei and he is essential to their survival.
Both Eve and Lei are vital to the story and necessary to each others survival. Evelyn is the tough protector and Leisel is the kind hearted more fragile woman. Leisel seemed like the weakest person. But she’s not. She’s someone who is able to do what needs to be done, someone who is able to still keep humanity and hope in all this mess. As much as I loved Evelyn and even Alex, I think Leisel was my favorite of the book.
Thicker Than Blood is more than an apocalyptic tale, it’s a story about protecting those you love to the death. Surviving. Doing things you'd never imagine just to get by. Trying to live in this world without losing your humanity. Above all its a story of two best friends closer than sisters who would do anything for each other. They have a bond unlike any other. They would sacrifice, fight, kill and maybe even die for one another.
There were many gut wrenching scenes in this story. So many parts that were difficult to stomach. I swear I feel like I cried nonstop the last 20% or so. I didn’t expect for a book like this to get to me so much. I didn’t expect for it to move me like this.
The writing was incredible and there was such a great flow. Honestly, I couldn’t tell if one specific author wrote Eve and the other Lei, or how that worked. There was just such a blending of their voices. And I loved how the book was written in dual pov from both women.
This book is one that will stick with me. The ending was satisfying. It’s not your traditional HEA, but for this story, I think it really worked. This is a stand alone, but there is a sneak peak at the end of a new story from characters we met along the way, and I can’t wait to read it! This is one I highly recommend!

I loved Thicker Than Blood. It was nothing like I expected in a really great way. You never knew what was going to happen next which was great! The story always kept you on your toes and it was hard to figure out where the story would end up. Plus no one is safe. It felt a bit more real. Like anyone could die at any moment because the world is a nightmare place to live in now. It is a bit like "The Walking Dead" in that it is about people trying to survive in the new world and they keep running into terrible situations.
This book was amazing. The ending? So incredibly beautiful. I might have teared up a bit. But the whole story was great. I found it especially interesting reading how everyone changed throughout the story. How their mental states got better or worse with everything that happens. Eve started off so strong, so sure of herself and her purpose. She is supposed to protect poor, sweet, weak Leisel, but once she is not needed as much what does she do? What does she have to hold onto in this terrible world?
And Liesel? I admit she got on my nerves at the beginning. She was so...I don't think weak is the right word. More like she is afraid of everything and I kept yelling at her in my head to get a move on and do something! She is the one who really kept her humanity when the world went down the drain and she tries to stay kind of sweet and innocent. Though it is not really possible. She ended up being my favorite character. I loved her and her story arch. She was amazing and if this were to ever happen I would want to be like her.
This story will definitely take you through the wringer. Man it was intense and I loved every minute of it. I don't want to say much more as I don't want to ruin anything. And if I talk more about what happens it would ruin it a bit. Better to go in and find out for yourself. I am really curious about the next book now to see what happened with some of the other characters we met in this one. I hope it is just as intense as this was! Oh, it was wonderful!

A story about survival, friendship and love. Going into this story I knew it was going to be a rough ride and it was. My heart was pounding from one chapter to the next trying to figure out what Evelyn & Leisel would face. What I loved about this book though that the main focus from the very beginning were these two women and how much they truly loved each other. Yes there were other characters involved (Alex was an amazing guy) but Eve & Lei didn't need anyone else besides each other, it was refreshing to read about women supporting one another and showing what true friendship looks like. This book was scary, heart-wrenching but hopeful. If you're looking for sunshine and rainbows, avoid this at all cost! Like I said at the start, it's not easy and you'll shed a few tears and want to know what is wrong with these authors to do this to their fans. But once you reach the end you'll find peace and be happy you took this journey. 4 Stars!

**My review contains mild spoilers.**
Wow. I wasn't expecting to experience so many feels with this book.
Liesel and Evelyn were best friends since before the outbreak and they've made it through together. Always together. They've had a comfortable life for the past two years living in a fortified community...except for one thing.
The book begins with Liesel killing her abusive husband. She now has a death sentence. Evelyn, along with a guard named Alex who's in love with Liesel, bust her out and they are now living in the wild.
Liesel annoyed me for a bit the way she complained and with the way Evelyn and Alex coddled her. But throughout the book she adjusted and toughened up - all without losing her humanity. I really liked her transformation.
I adored Evelyn. Back in the community she used sex to ease the hurt from all she'd lost. She was strong and she was a good friend, keeping her vow to always protect Liesel. Yeesh, I'm crying while writing this.
My only critique would be that it took a little while to get into. I thought the story really picked up when they made it to Purgatory. I really hope E gets his in the next book, a little justice for Evelyn's sake.
Just a beautiful story of friendship that's thicker than blood. I loved it.

Thicker Than Blood is a nail-biting, page-turning amazingly horrific tale of two women and their undying commitment to each other and their friendship. When the world they once knew is completely destroyed and they are thrown into world of death, Leisel and Evelyn will astound you with their unyielding determination to survive together no matter what. Sheehan and Riley will captivate you as they suck you into a post-apocalyptic world that will plague your thoughts forever.
That pretty much sums up this book without giving anything away.
What else could I say to make my review even close to worthy of this book!?!?
Lei and Eve are two strong-willed woman in their own ways. They go through s*** that it just jaw-dropping shocking. And unfortunately, they don't come out unscathed either. But they become even stronger, if that were possible. Their bond just continuea to grow.
This book is not for the faint of heart. This is not a romance in any way - so do not expect any mushy s***. It is a post-apocalyptic story written in raw, dirty and unforgiving words.
Madeline and Claire are a force to be reckon with in writing together on this genre. They hit the nail straight on the head. The whole story flows with just the perfect amount of detail and truly makes you feel like this is how our world could end.

This was a different type of post-apocalyptic book then I have previously read. The two main characters, Eve and Lei, are best friends and the book follows their story in a post-apocalyptic world. Sometimes I have a hard time describing a book without giving away too many details or plot twists. I did enjoy the book; it focuses both on the main characters relationship with each other and what happening in the world around them. I can tell you that the ending really surprised me and I was a bit disappointed. Overall, I enjoyed the book, the story line and the author's writing style. Although I was disappointed by the ending, I am planning on reading the second book in the series.

These two ladies weaved a story unlike anything I have read in a long time. This story is about friendship and what it really means to truly go to the ends of the earth for someone you love. Relationships are hard. Relationships during the apocalypse are even harder.
“I saw so much of me in that monster, right then, knowing I was no better than it was. Just like me it was hungry to live, and willing to kill to continue to do so.”
Leisel and Evelyn are the best of friends and survive so much horror together. I truly felt like I road that journey with them while reading this. From watching the word as they knew come to an end, losing the men they love, and finding refuge in a village from hell. It just goes on and on. But through all of that they were there for each other. That list doesn’t even hit the 50% mark of the book. There is so much more but I don’t want to spoil this amazing journey for you. This is truly one you have to read and experience for yourself.
"...what good is surviving an apocalypse without the battle scars to prove it..." Exactly!
Reading these two ladies own books you know you are going to get one heck of a story. When you put these two together it is like that times 10. They were able to blend their “voice” together so perfectly it is incredible how it turned out.
“I won’t be gentle wild cat,” he said pulling away, his words as ruff and threatening as his hands. He bit down on my lip, causing me to gasp. “And you're not gonna like me when I’m done.” he continued “But you will be satisfied.”
There is a little bit of everything in this book, there is horror, romance, humor, action and drama. It is told from both Leisel and Evelyn’s POV. I like books that have that.
I believe that whether you are into post-apocalyptic books, The Walking Dead, or anything of that nature you will enjoy this book. It is so much more than that. I really hope you give it a chance. It is definitely one you should not miss.

Thicker Than Blood is a savage, vicious, yet stunningly beautiful story.
As a long-time fan of Claire C Riley, who was previously unfamiliar with Madeline Sheehan's work, I enthusiastically applaud this book. These two authors joined forces to write a book so spectacular that it is impossible to know who wrote which chapters. As co-authors, Claire and Madeline are as made for each other as Leisel and Evelyn are as best friends. It's truly magical.
Thicker Than Blood will leave an ache in your chest, but hope in your heart with genius world-building and both brutal and beautiful three-dimensional characters.
Thicker Than Blood epitomizes true friendship and perseverance. I can only hope that these two authors will work together again to give their readers another spectacular story.

Riley and Sheehan instantly transport you into their world and keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire ride. You’ll question your humanity, your instincts, and your own mortality in this fast-paced post-apocalyptic novel. You’ll laugh from your own insanity, cry from your worst nightmares, and you won’t know whether to mourn or cut your losses.
I don't know why I continue to keep hope alive when it comes to Riley's work. Just when I think I can predict the outcome, a gigantic, bloody wrench gets thrown into my plan for the characters, and I'm left cuddling with a blanket, rocking in the corner, clutching my hair, and sobbing.
This novel has resonated with me ever since I read it. The characters are still clear in my head, and the hopelessness of their world still makes me think I was there.
Looking forward to the next book.
**This book does not end on a cliffhanger, but does set you up for this world to continue.**

I had been very hesitant to read this book because I am not truly a Zombie apocalypse kinda gal, but I love me some Madeline and true to her style she wow's me time and time again. I shouldn't have ever doubted that I would like this story, and the alternative POV written by her co-pilot Claire C. Riley gives the story a real alternating feel.
This story does start out with two best girl friends surviving together after an apocalyptic breakout, but this journey through Thicker than Blood is much more than Zombie gore. This is a story of love between two friends, loss of great loves, hope, desperation, and it is also a sick path through purgatory where human nature turns primitive and cruel. The authors had me sucked in and there were moments where I just had to keep reading. Overall I really liked this book and I am definitely reading book II.

Say what you want about the Zombie Apocalypse, but when it all hits the fan, I want to be on Madeline Sheehan & Claire C. Riley’s team! Also, they have officially made our list of Authors We Want to Get Drunk With.
"When the world awoke again, it awoke with a rattling groan that promised only misery and loss"
I am struggling to find the words to express how much I loved this book. It was compelling, exciting, gripping and so damn intense! I suffered a terrible book hangover which resulted in me stalking Claire C. Riley and purchasing several of her books. (Sorry Claire!) This is one writing team that I will read again and again. The authors’ ability to create such a vivid post-apocalyptic world was almost frightening. It was like there was a film of filth over everything. I was afraid of the beautiful landscapes as much as the ugly ones. I questioned everything they saw. When they entered a room, I was right there with them. And this begins with the blood on the first page.
The Main focus of the story was Leisle and Evelyn's friendship; the ability to draw strength from each other and love each other through the worst of all scenarios. I was truly impressed with the complexity of the characters. They came right off the pages! I have rarely felt completely connected to a group of characters like I did with this book. I felt everything they felt and my heart never stopped racing. I ached for them as they struggled, mentally, physically and emotionally. As I read I could was sucked into their world and found myself questioning everything this new world had to offer right alongside of them. I really enjoyed how different Lei & Eve were and how they drew from each other's strength.
"We simply survived."
It's tough to decide which character I identified with the most. I felt bonded to them all. I couldn't stop wondering how I would handle each and every situation they faced. Alex was a strong man. He was honorable and clung to that with everything he had. Lei was soft and sweet in a world where that wouldn't survive. Eve and Lei had a friendship that was founded on happiness and fused through adversity. I loved the way they loved each other. They had a true sisterhood.
"Always together, I promise."
It would be difficult to talk about any moment in the book without revealing spoilers or just ruining the pace of the book for the next reader. There were so many moments I loved in this book because they made me FEEL. And I left a lot. I was terrified, sad, happy, concerned and anxious as all hell. I was overwhelmed by the emotions this book elicited. It took me forever to read this book. It was brutal. It was intense. To feel so attached to these people and then witness their journey was hell. But I couldn't look away. I had to know. I needed them to survive. To be OK. I needed each of them to feel some sense of peace.
"The threat that lay behind closed doors, lurking in the shadows, was always far more deadly than the danger in plain sight."
I am most surprised by the fact that I found myself caring about the adversaries as much as the heroes. There were a few characters I should have disliked or even hated that I wanted to know more about. I wanted their backstories. I wanted to know who they were before the infection. Before the world ended.
The alternating POV was completely necessary with this story. With Eve and Lei being so different, I needed to know not only how each woman was feeling, but what they were each seeing. The writing in his book was phenomenal. It was flawless. I found the POVs most fascinating when the women were each in a similar situation but had very different experiences. It was pure genius.
What was most fun about this book for me was being sucked in by the very first page and any questions that arose throughout the story were answered later. I never found myself confused or lost. I was just there. Among the filth and infected. Waiting for the next moment.
I NEVER SAW THE ENDING COMING. I was shocked and then thrilled all at once. Part of what happened I was hoping for all along, but it was all a surprise. I was oddly at peace with how it ended. I loved this book from start to finish. I loved it and was scarred by it at the same time.
6 GIMME-MORE-NOW-STARS and pair it with homemade, backwoods moonshine!

This was a wonderful story! This was a horrible story! This was a wonderful story!
If I had to describe this story to someone using movies/shows (often the best way to describe it to a non-reader) I’d call it Thelma & Louise blended with The Walking Dead, then topped with the worst (some would say best?) parts of 28 Days Later and The Road (The book, I haven’t seen the movie yet to know how it compares)
Thicker Than Blood has a lot of gritty and dark moments. We’re reminded how thin the line between civilization and chaos is, how easily those in power can come to abuse it, and how standing up for the things we believe in can cost us everything.
A fabulously dark read with just enough lighter bits to keep you hopeful. I can’t wait for the sequel “Beneath Blood and Bone”!

Leisel and Evelyn are best friends. They have stood by each other when the world around them has fallen to pieces. When this books begins we find that the characters are living in one of the few civilized areas in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. But their lives are far from happy or even safe.
What I loved about this book is the friendship between the two main characters. No matter how bad things get they stand by each other. It's actually quite beautiful.
I've read a lot of zombie books. There were some aspect of this book that I've read before and some area's that were completely fresh. I have to say that the last 25% of the book blew my socks off. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

I was so incredibly thrilled and honored when I was asked to beta read Thicker Than Blood. Hello- it’s Claire and Madeline- we all know that anything they write will be brilliant.
Thicker Than Blood tells the story of best friends, Liesel and Evelyn, as they try to survive in a hellish, nightmarish world. Their lives and the friendship between them are put to the test repeatedly. The circumstances they encounter are unbelievable. Can they survive?
Beautifully written, emotional and creative, Thicker Than Blood is full of drama, action and romance. It’s told in dual Point of Views and I have to say that Claire and Madeline made it totally seamless and fluid. I had no idea who wrote which character while reading.
Page after page, you will be intrigued and wanting to know what will happen next. You will be rooting for Leisel and Evelyn to survive. You will smile. You will cry. You will enjoy every single word. Thicker Than Blood is an absolute must read!!

Thicker Than Blood by Madeline Sheehan and Claire C Riley
Leisel & Evelyn
I totally gave myself 24 hours between finishing this and reviewing it. Should be enough time to calm down right? Wrong!!! I am still speechless. I can't believe I loved a book like this. I can't believe how connected I got to these characters and their horror story! This is a story of survival in the truest sense of the word. It will slash open your soul, tear your heart out, and leave you feeling content, yet sad! And just when you think it can't get any worse for these two courageous girls, it does! Thicker Than Blood is, well, Thelma and Louise meet World War Z and then stubble upon Mad Max!
Leisel, oh my God, Leisel! I wanted to shriek from the rooftops... "You are not nothing, you are not an empty head and a pretty face," and most importantly, "You are NOT just a hole!" This woman had my full attention from the very beginning. Throughout this story, she endured so much heartbreak, so much death, and so much misfortune that I myself would have given up and imploded in on myself. Not Leisel. No way. Of course she always had a powerful cheerleader in her corner, Evelyn! I'm not sure she would have made it as far as she didn't without her "Eve"! I wear my pink fuzzy slippers proud today!
Now Evelyn was my hero all along! She kept her chin up through thick and thin and never tried to look back. Eve was the optimist in this messed up relationship. Always looking and marching forward onto new and hopefully better things. She not only kept Leisel going, but she kept me going as well. The things this woman underwent to procure much needed supplies for her friends nearly killed me. Her need to be Leisel's keeper and protector was overwhelming and awe-inspiring. I could only hope for such a great friend in my lifetime!
Great supporting character cast. Alex, Jami, E, Jeffers, Liv, and so many more. Although Alex played more of a main character, I felt he was still in the supporting role. He's the silent but deadly type. He made me swoon more times than I can count! What a first-class guy. Though he may describe himself as something all together diverse, his heart was in the right place. Now, for Jeffers, E, and Liv, well, I have no words! Wait! I do have some words. Jeffers is a wiped jerkface who wouldn't know his butt from a whole in the ground if Liv didn't show him the difference. Liv is a huge, giant, gaping (Cee U Next Tuesday) that should be swallowed up by the depths of hell. And E, well, I'm not sure what to think about him just yet, the jury's still out on that one. I'm sure he had good intentions, but his mannerisms and his gait scared the heck outta me!
Of all the places our characters were and/or visited, Purgatory, the church, Hotel de la Zombies, (ha - love that one), The Cabin, or the Inn... Purgatory was the one that stood out to me. It seemed to run like a well oiled machine. A dirty, filthy well oiled machine with Satan and the helm. Looking forward to revisiting that place in the near future!
Ok, so, to wrap this up and tell you all to go buy this one ASAP!!! It's scary, it's dark, it's actually funny sometimes, and within it's 366 (kindle version) pages, you'll be intimidated, freaked way outta your mind, and unexpectedly satisfied. Thicker Than Blood is persuasive. It will take you to the top of the food chain and drop your butt off into the pits of hell. The dialogue flows, the storyline is powerful, and the tension created by these two amazing women will leave you breathless.

Thicker Than Blood is a new collaboration from Madeline Sheehan and Claire C Riley. The post-apocalyptic theme of this book really appealed to me, and being a big fan of Madeline’s, I was eager to read this book.
I won’t lie, this book was a bit of a slow start for me. But every minute spent with these characters, in this world, was well worth it. Sheehan and Riley did an incredible job at depicting life in what literally has become a hell on Earth. The world they created is real, raw, and visceral. The reader is easily able to put themselves into the shoes of these characters. The writing is vivid, the descriptions perfect, and I wouldn’t be shocked if this was exactly how the “zombie apocalypse” played out. The sights, sounds, and even the smells detailed in this book are all to easy to imagine, and the characters’ suffering (and trust me, they’re suffering) bleeds from the pages straight into the heart of the reader.
Then there are the relationships. The bond Leisel and Evelyn share truly is something special. Throughout unimaginable circumstances, when the rest of civilization seems to be de-volving, the selflessness of their love for each other truly is a beacon in this horrifying new reality.
There is a lot going on in this book. In a world after the “zombie apocalypse”, in a place that is more Thunderdome than America, the action is constant, the environment brutal, simply reading about their constant fight to survive is exhausting. But above all else, rising above the terror and the heartache, is the overwhelming devotion in this story. Two best friends completely devoted to one another. A man devoted to the salvation of the woman he loves, and an entirely different human race devoted to their fight to stay alive.
You will definitely take this journey with Leisel and Evelyn. Each small victory will fill you with hope, and each setback will be a crushing blow. After a perfectly imperfect ending to this story, and an epilogue that is both heartwarming and heartwrenching, all that I could say when I finished this book was “Damn.”

Madeline Sheehan and Claire C. Riley out did themselves! I don't even know how they hell am I going to review this book without giving away everything!
First off, don't let my blog name fool you, I'm a hardcore zombie apocalypse reading chick! Lol This book is nail biting, adrenaline rushing, and will have your heart feeling like you just ran a marathon.
I've read my fair shares of zombie apocalypse books and this one is high up there in the scale of 10! I mean, right in the beginning you can feel how the world has changed and gone to hell. The writing is superb and even the realism of reading it has you peeking out your window to make sure there are no zombies.
Madeline and Claire throw you in without warning and the action pack starts right away leaving you thinking "WTF just happened?" and it doesn't stop there, it keeps going and going. Evelyn and Leisel leave one hell for another and in the midst, their friendship tugs at your heart because you feel how strong it is. Everything they have suffered has you wondering when will they break, and eventually they do but they have each other through it all. Their friendship truly is thicker than blood.
The characters are unforgettable, you want to know all their stories. Thicker Than Blood sucks you in and leaves you drained.
How do you go on and even think about living when you have no one left? Read it and find out.
The epilogue was beautifully written and it will leave you in tears.
I can't say enough to any and everyone who loves these types of genres should read Thicker Than Blood. The action pack but heart felt book will leaving you wanting for more. I feel like this review doesn't even convey how I feel about it! They did an amazing job balancing out with the action pack scenes but also the emotional parts. Wow is all I can say, it blew my mind.
I cried in the beginning.
I cried in the middle.
I cried in the end. Oh man did I cry at the end!
I cried because we all know with zombie apocalypse books there can never really truly be a happy ending.

I have started this review 5 times, and each time I start it I stop, then I stare, and then I restart. Because there is no way I can come close to describing how I feel about it. I am blown away.
The action starts a few years after the zombie apocalypse and the world has pretty much ended, and not well. Especially if you are a woman. Our two Heroines, best friends who would do anything and everything for each other, Evelyn and Leisel have been forced into marriages they don't want and suffer abuse in these relationships. They both have their own way of dealing (or not dealing)with the hand they've been dealt. So, they see their chance and escape. Chaos and heartbreak ensue.
Riley and Sheehan have done an amazing job at capturing the emotion behind dealing with trauma even while in the thick of it. There is badass zombie action and interesting and awful and strong supporting characters. Nothing and no one are as they seem on the surface. I like the way they are forced grow and change in this story.
This was a hard read for me. As I become older and more aware of what feminism and equality mean to me, and what it will eventually mean to my daughter, the angrier I become when it comes to suppression of anyone regardless of definition or label. The making less of someone, anyone. But there is also strength to be found where there is perceived weakness. There are a couple of poignant (heart-breaking?)moments in this book when it comes to realizing their own worth and how they deserve to be treated. It is an awesome journey

There are a couple of poignant (heart-breaking?)moments in this book when it comes to realizing their own worth and how they deserve to be treated. It is an awesome journey

What do you have when you have lost everything except your best friend? In a post-apocalyptic world where women are looked at as property belonging to this misogynistic society, it is impossible to make your way if you have no survival skills at all.
Thicker Than Blood was a gut punching work by two extremely talented writers who took turns writing each point of view of two women who have lost everything they have ever known. The story unfolds from the first blood stained page and keeps you hooked until the last tear soaked page. At first you believe you know who is the stronger of the two women, but just like real life things are not always what they seem.
This book is a dark tale of what humanity can turn in to, the darkest side of us all, with the good still trying to find their way through. An honest look at what will happen if our evil sides are let loose with no repercussions. We all like to think that we will be strong and we will be survivors. Unfortunately that is not going to be the case. This tale is a look at what may happen, and the things that may come to pass.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of post-apocalyptic horror, but caution that this is sprinkled with a lot of mature situations, and some of the worst of humanity. This is not any kind of happy ending book, but life is not really a happy ending anyway. It is not like anyone gets out of life alive, so may as well give it the best damn shot you have.

Not one to read dystopian or post-apocalyptic books, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Thicker than Blood reminded me of a cross between World War Z and Mad Max. Hauntingly chilling, this book was hard to put down and has me questioning whether I'm ready to dive into book 2.

Thicker Than Blood has completely freakin DESTROYED me emotionally. When I finished reading it, I felt like a part of me had been ripped out, lit on fire, and then shoved, still flaming, back into my body. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve EVER felt this emotionally drained after a book.
This really is a phenomenal book. The writing in and of itself is easy to follow but not immature. The story has multiple layers but isn’t confusing. Initially I thought reading the book from both Leisel’s and Evelyn’s perspective would be confusing, but it wasn’t. The authors did a good job of making it pretty clear who was telling the story, in addition to actually labeling each chapter with the name of the speaking character.
There is action, romance, horror. Everything I need to keep my attention.
Leisel and Evelyn are absolutely characters with which most women can identify. They are best friends and are devoted to one another, especially after everything they have been through together. They are the sort of women that I would want to have as a best friend. Evelyn is fiercely loyal. The things she sacrifices to protect Leisel, oh my damn. I just can’t imagine. Leisel has her own strengths, despite them being more of emotional and non conventional in nature. I never expected to become as emotionally involved with these characters.
The world that Sheehan and Riley have built in Thicker Than Blood is definitely not one I would want to live in. I think I would prefer to have just been shot in the head at the beginning. I highly doubt I could have survived the things they experienced and kept my mind intact. The scariest thing about the world they have created is that I can see our society becoming this in the face of an apocalypse. Just due to basic human greed and male mentalities. People are disgusting.
Thicker Than Blood is the kind of book that made me feel a range of emotions, but always have that underlying fear of what would come next. I wanted to help the characters. I wanted them to be safe. I wanted them to be victorious over their surroundings and the people within. I felt like they were MY friends. Like I knew them personally! I wanted to hurt anyone who hurt them. When they were sad, I was sad. When they were happy, I was happy.
If you like post-apocalyptic zombie books, this is a MUST READ. And I used all caps for serious right there. You really must read this book to get the full scope of how I feel about Thicker Than Blood. I want to be mad at the authors for making me feel like I do right now about this book. But I know that by feeling how I do, they have done their jobs as authors. To make me feel something real for someone who is not. To really believe the story and become so emotionally invested in a book that I want to climb into the pages and start wrecking people for hurting my friends isn’t something every author can accomplish.
Just please, go read this book. Then message me and tell me what you think!

THIS BOOK. This book right here. THIS ONE!! it is a beautiful disaster. A tragically, heart breaking story. One that will grip your heart strings right out of the gates, and never let them go. It reaches deep down into the depths of your soul, and makes you question your OWN humanity. It terrifies you with the thought of our world ever coming close to losing it's mind in a zombie infected world, Leisels and Evelyn's world is not one you'd want to find yourself in.
Thicker Than Blood is so MUCH more than a Zombie book. It's beautifully, and masterfully written by two very talented authors, Riley and Sheehan. They have the ability to make you feel each and every emotions their characters are feeling. This story is about real loss, tragic love, a friendship that can and WILL endure anything, and it shows you the best and worst side of us humans.
The story of Lei and Eve is the true definition of what friendship SHOULD be, it's the type of friendship that every woman on this earth hopes for. A friendship that no matter what, no matter the world they live in, no matter the tradegy they go through. they never faulter, they never stop. They continue to fight for each other, they continue to try and survive in a world filled with men that do nothing but take whatever they can. This story is about finding yourself, figuring out what you're made of.
You literally see each one of these characters transform in front of your eyes. you see them broken, and beaten down from the new world they live in. and then find themselves all over again.
Thicker Than Blood is one of the best zombie books I have EVER read. It's tragic. It's beautiful. It's breathtaking, and heart stopping. The story will stick with you well after you've turned the last page. It will creep into your dreams and steal a piece of your heart. You do not want to pass this one up. I will be impatiently awaiting the next installment of this series!!!

This is the story of two best friends. Leisel and Evelyn are living in a world torn apart by...you guessed it, a zombie apocalypse. In some ways this book gives you all the things you've come to expect from dystopian novels...a wasted world reverted to a more archaic time. A desperate need for survival. And a fair dose of blood and guts.
But what this book has that so many of those other stories doesn't, is heart. Because underneath all of that other stuff, this is an amazing story of friendship and how far we, as humans, are willing to go to survive. And in doing so will we lose the very things that make us human.
Yes there's some romance, which adds nicely to the flow of the plot. There's humor that lightens an otherwise dark and heavy journey. Most importantly its a story that leaves you breathless. You meet characters that you will love. Some you will hate. But you will find it hard to delineate between good and evil because in a post-apocalyptic world, those lines are so easily blurred and Riley and Sheehan perfectly depict this.
This is not a traditional HEA but I couldn't imagine this book ending in any other way. I was left with a bit of a knot in my stomach but I was also satisfied. I think you will be too.

Gut punch after gut punch with instances of love and levity. Thicker Than Blood was the kind of book that leaves you with a particular type of PTRD (post traumatic reading disorder) after the ending, with your eyes wide and needing time to recover. There’s hope though, a little glimmer among the angst and heartbreak.
I always go into a Riley book with certain preconceptions of quality & craft. Unfamiliar with Sheehan’s work, I was unsure how the combination of styles and skills would affect my history with Riley’s writing. I’ve been burned before by co-writing; when you dive into a new book by your favorite author (co-written) and realize that the composition is changed, different, not reflective of the originally loved author’s ‘something special’ that drew you into their works in the first place. But sometimes, melding two minds together can create something unique and magnetic in its own right. Something both tragic and epically beautiful.
This is the case of the combination of Riley and Sheehan. And that fact pleases me to no end (because it was these two authors objective to please me particularly, right? Who else would they have strived for so diligently to create a piece so pleasing?). These two authors have come together so seamlessly that it's nearly impossible to tell who wrote what; a feat that can only be compared to the innovation of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Each turn of the page brings on a new element, a new dimension, something unexpected and light years away from cliché and trite. As a reader, you will find yourself rooting for the characters- experiencing a medley of despair and triumph in equal measure. These feelings stem from my personal investment in the book and characters; trademark of a book that goes beyond the norm into something truly special.
With excellent world-building, character-crafting, and storyline, Thicker Than Blood will get under your skin. When that happens, when a book truly touches you in the deepest part of your soul, you’re irrevocably changed. I cannot speak with higher praise about this book. I cannot adequately describe the ending and the chills it gave me, the small ache in my chest as if I were the Grinch with the expanding heart, a chorus of Whos in the background.
Thicker than Blood embodies the essence of humanity, friendship, and perseverance. I cannot wait to have it in hard copy, sitting on my shelf, waiting for me to return and re-read the story of two best friends and true loyalty.
A little birdy told me the duo are already working on the sequel to their co-debut. I’ll be the first in cyber-line to pick it up, devour it, and wait impatiently for a third offering by Riley and Sheehan.

These two ladies - the leading ladies in the book as well as the two kick-a ladies who authored this - have hearts of golden steel and words that will linger with you well after you put the book down.
For real, this story has everything in it. It's part adventure, never knowing where it's going to take you. It's part horror, freaking you the hell out. It's also romantic and hopeful, knowing when to lift you up, just when you're sure there's no more hope to be had.
I enjoyed immensely the contrast between these ladies, and their transformation is both something you celebrate and fear, because a world this wasted is bound to change us both for the better and the worse. I loved Leisel and Evelyn. I felt so much of myself in both of them to the point where I was mourning the changes they were undergoing; you literally feel their innocence being killed at the bony hands of tragedy after tragedy.
Please read this book so we can talk and console each other. I need it.

So, after being depressed because of it and not being able to pick up another book, I decided to rate it 3 stars and review it.
The reason for that is:
1. It's depressing.
2. Everything seems to revert back to before women could voice their opinions and they actually counted as human beings, as people with feelings.
3. The crazy religious fanatics survived. How, I have no idea.
4. It was hard to get into it; the heroines of the story had some dumb moments.
But I did like it. While it was a slow read, it was written in a way that kept you interested and curious and rooting for everyone.
Needless to say, there's no HEA, whatsoever and maybe that's why it both pissed me off but was good too. It was... realistic. Unfortunately, if there were a zombie apocalypse, it would NOT be pretty. Not everyone would make it out alive and many tears would be shed.
I really want to thank a friend of mine for virtually holding my hand through this. And, I have to say, I must read book 2 because it's about one of the bad guys from this book and well, I'm kinda hoping he'd get his. I'm actually hoping it would be as good - if not better - than this one.

Excellent writing. Grabs you from the beginning. However, it's super melodramatic. I appreciated the friendship, but their conversations were just sappy and - in my opinion - unrealistic. I kept expecting them to profess their undying love to each other at any moment.
Also, they keep getting into one situation after another without seemingly learning anything from the previous one.

This book took me completely out of my comfort zone. It was super intense, gritty, and raw. It also played on some of my underlying fears. I have often wondered what would happen to humanity if an apocalyptic event ever happened. This book really explores that in terrifying, heartbreaking, and uplifting detail.
This book really flowed well. I couldn't even tell when reading it that two differ authors penned this book. Both authors did an amazing job. I was on the edge of my seat throughout reading it. It wrecked me. It moved me. I loved it.
