Nearly everyone has general knowledge of Watergate and of the efforts by reporters Woodward & Bernstein to unravel the cover-up of the Watergate burglary (and their subsequent efforts to uncover and expose a massive White House effort to derail the campaigns of the democratic presidential candidates).

This books is for those who want to go beyond general knowledge. The book also shows what a challenge it was for Woodward & Bernstein to root out information and to separate truth from speculation (or misinformation).

I say “historically dated” because the book ends before Nixon’s resignation and because there is no updated epilogue discussing the identity of Deep Throat (so I looked that up on Wikipedia).

Bottom line: Good historical perspective, but a bit dry in parts (also, a lot of names get thrown at you).

This book is a very well-documented, impeccably-written example of some of the best investigative journalism ever. It should be required in every high school "Intro. to Journalism" course in the country. It's a story that proves that our democracy is never to be taken for granted; we have to be hyper vigilant to keep it...always!

A classic! Well written sequence of events, the investigative reporting and presentation in the day's news media by the reporters who broke and more importantly persisted in following the story even when conventional wisdom was not supportive. A must read.

Are these men public servants or third graders playing James Bond? There's another organization similar to the Nixon administration they're called the Mafia. But I like the Mafia better because their fingers aren't always in my wallet.

It is hard to believe that this actually happened. It is even harder to realise that 2 reporters brought down the presidency of United States. Bravo! I finished this book in couple of days and happy to read it again. It is a must read if you want to know what watergate is all about.

Seems to have lots of inside information. If all is true, the involvement of all the players was much more serious and extensive than I had ever heard before. However, I must remember it was written by people that wanted to, needed to, and have tooted their own horn in the past. They also have strong left leanings. It is possible that influenced their slant in writing it too. An easy and interesting read.

I was a teenager during the watergate years, and really didn't follow the news or the trial. This book was very enlightening. I had no clue! Though not written in a novel style, it is chronilogical and in spite of the potential to be just dry facts, it was very gripping. I was disappointed that it did not reveal who 'Deep Throat' was. And I wonder if it was ever revealed???

Lately I've been on a history binge - 20th century history at least. I had forgotten so much. The book is so much better than the film which isn't so bad itself! If you haven't read it - you should. Puts politics in the 2010's into perspective.
