I have been reading/singing this book with my preschool/early elementary classes for years and it never ceases to amuse and delight my listeners. Now I see that there are more in the series. I'll have to check them out. The book is humorous, delightfully illustrated and teaches a good lesson about what is truly of value in a person.

This is another of those "childhood favorites" from a few years back. It has a pleasant rhythm in the story, like a steady poem, that a child would enjoy hearing countless times. There are fun characters involved and the illustrations are colorful.

Tacky the Penguin is one of my favorite books from childhood. My children love this new addition to our home library! Tacky is so clueless and wonderful, yet things work out just fine. We should all be a little more like this fun-loving penguin!

Good quality book, colorful pages.

This is one of the books/audiobooks that my daughter listens/reads along with at daycare. She begged me to get her this book and I finally relented (after 2 days) because I was tired of hearing about it. My daughter absolutely loved reading/recalling it and we ended up reading it for about 2 weeks straight before we began to mix it up again. The book is cute and overall has a nice message while being just silly enough for kids to enjoy.

Tacky is such a delightful character. Fun to read over and over, never gets stale.Very loveable and so nice. Children love, this book. Shows that everyone should be who they are and not be swayed by others. Not preachy, just good. Fun to read. Laugh out loud funny.

This is a really cute story and came recommended by lots of our friends. I loaded it on my Android device using a Kindle app and also bought it again using Google books. In both cases it loaded so that the words don't match the picture. Too bad, because it is a really cute book. I have purchased several other childrens' books from the store using my Kindle app and this is the only one that has had this problem.

This was purchased as a birthday gift and is being well read and loved. Was very surprised to see my 11 month old nephew stay engaged through the whole book. He pointed and talked to the characters all the way through. Starting him early to have a love for reading, they are never to young to start.

My Aunt who was an elementary school teacher recommended this book to me for our two kids. My boys love it! My 2 year old wants me to read it 4 times in a row..complete with funny voices. Highly recommend!!

My five year old loves Tacky the Penguin. He enjoys reading about Tacky's different adventures and the trouble he encounters and the positive outcomes. Tacky is a quirky, unique, cool penguin which my son relates to well. This book is cute.

I was introduced to Tacky the Penguin by a children's services librarian. I bought 3 books in the series to contribute to our library for the children's summer reading program. The books will be used as rewards along with a fleece blanket that I made and contributed. Tacky is my kind of character because he gets in trouble a lot.

"Tacky the Penguin" is poorly formatted for the Kindle. The pages are printed straight out of the book with words too small to read, and then the same printed text in Kindle format on the previous or following pages. Numbers and letters which mean nothing out of context are jumbled right on in with everything else. An extreme example is on the final pages, where the letters from the music sheet are printed right in with the lyrics. I'm surprised my daughter could make it all out.

Do you adore penguins, especially funny ones? Well, Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester is the book for you! Tacky the Penguin is a book about a penguin that's nothing like the others, but in the end he saves everyone. I bet that even adults would laugh at this wonderful book.

This book is filled with the best illustrations ever. Well, at least from my point of view, just the pictures would make you laugh! I really like the way the book ended. It proves no one has to follow the pack. That's what makes me feel so nicely about the book. I recommended the book for even senior citizens!

Something else unique about this book is that it basically says that even if you're a pest, you're a good person to have around. But really, the book could have been longer. It's just so short not many events happen. Of course it showed the right amount, but I really would want to see Tacky having fun with other penguins.

From sad to mad, this book still makes emotional kids have a good laugh and a good reading time. Even I can't stop reading Tacky the Penguin over and over. Nothing is really wrong with the book. I mean of course it had some errors. Of course it could've been longer. Beside that, it's a great book. I love this book!

In the end, Tacky doesn't try to fit in with the other penguins to be loved. His humor does that for him. I would recommend this book for ages one to ninety nine! Anybody would love the book Tacky the Penguin. It's a perfect mix of humor and a good moral!

My daughter likes the Tacky series. For some reason; this book didn't go over as well.

The emperor of the penguins is going to visit the iceberg. Goodly, Lovely, and Angel make piles of fish-flavored cupcakes, punch and Ice cream. Neatly decorates a throne with ribbons and sparkly stars. Perfect practices a dance and Tacky handles the balloons.

The only problem is the emperor sees this all the time and is not looking for yet another day which is the same as all other days.

Tacky blows up a balloon and floats off and lands on the emperors berg. The emperor not being happy decides to take a swim. Tacky stumbles on his cloths and takes them!

He returns to the ice berg and everything thinks he is the emperor and give him the food, throne and the dance.

Eventually, the emperor appears and Tacky ends up showing him a fun time.
The emperor likes it so much that he declares Tacky to be a prince amount Penguins.

As always; Tacky was an odd bird, but a nice bird to have around.

Overall, it's a good story and the art is good but again my daughter did not like this book as much.

Great children's book that leaves the lesson that it is perfectly fine to be yourself, not conforming to a norm which doesn't fit your makeup. I have 2 children; and both had it read to them numerous times, then read it on their own numerous times. They find it hilarious.

At first, the core penguins think Tacky is really odd and that he's not a model to be emulated, yet by the end they are very accepting and celebrate his uniqueness and contributions.

VERY POOR quality RECORDING. VOLUME VARIES TOO MUCH, resulting in flinching when it increases suddenly, and straining when the reader's voice gets too soft; both happen frequently making listening pretty frustrating. Please don't try to listen to this one while driving in the car.
NARRATION begins immediately after the PAGE TURN SIGNAL sounds, making it very frustrating to try to follow along using that side of the cassette. It's challening enought for adults to turn the pages fast enough on this recording. It would be next to impossible for a child of almost any age to do so.
A re-issue would be much appreciated as the STORY IS WONDERFUL AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
