This was given as gifts and based on the responses we kept a copy for ourselves. Interestingly enough, it is the teens in these families that have gravitated to the book. Thanks goes to some of the teens taking an economics class. All the parents that we gave this book too are already fans of Dave Ramsey.

This book is SO practical! I loved that the authors actually live this stuff and gave some really good advice. I have purchased 3 copies for friends that also loved it. I wish my parents had had this book, although they did a decent job with modeling for us.

Dave's debt snowball works & this book can help you focus on how to teach your kids about money. A bit cheesy at times, the advice is pretty solid. We have already begun implementing some of the ideas & so far they have worked! Definitely worth the read.

I really like this "common sense" approach to getting kids to become aware of how to handle money. Although written with a religious under current, it was not really a turn off! I think parents with minor children would benefit from reading this!

What an awesome book bought two for each daughters. My oldest can start using the things she learns from this book with her daughter. My youngest can hopefully see where we want her to be and start a plan on getting there.

Well written book. I loved the format it was written in. It has a lot of great advise on how to teach our kids about money. I love the true life examples it references back to. Well done. Highly recommend.

Once again the Ramsey clan has some great ideas and examples of how to win with money. I want to give my children a head start in life, and learning how to handle money is one of the keys to a fruitful life. This book gave me some great tools to use towards that end.

Every parent needs this book!!! Fun to read and easy to understand, the book is about so much more than how to teach kids about money. Ramsey and his daughter give practical, useful advice about how to raise hardworking, giving kids who can truly go through life without debt!

Every family must have this tool! Wish I knew this info when my son was younger. I would have started him young with a mindfulness of earning and saving! So I am applying these tools in my life and my daughter of 13. Thanks Dave and Rachel!!!

Really great advice on teaching your kids about money. I've been struggling with some of the topics covered, and it's good to know I have a resource to turn to. It's also interesting to hear directly about the Ramsey family and some of the struggles they faced before being so clear-headed about money.

Dave's daughter Rachel adds an emotional element that hits home and really personalized the importance of teaching money-smart kids. The book also touches on a lot of the points covered in more detail in Money Makeover and Financial Peace.

Dave Ramsey has built a career out of teaching straightforward financial principles to millions of listeners and readers throughout the years. His first book written as a collaboration with his daughter Rachel Cruze is both more of the same and a fresh look at many principles Dave has been teaching for years. The books is primarily focused on “raising money smart kids in a debt-filled world”, and given that criteria I would say the book succeeds.
I’m a big time Dave Ramsey fan and have been from many years, and I have read all of Dave’s previous books. As you expect from Dave’s show and general demeanor, the book is a straightforward “this is exactly how to do this” type of book. Having Rachel writing approximately half the book content does allow for a very different voice in the project, specifically the view of a person who has grown up never being in debt and raised by Dave and Sharon Ramsey. That creates a very unique viewpoint and makes this book feel more engaging than some of Dave’s other works.
The first section of the book covers basic money lessons for children (starting from about age 4-5 through age 12), then transitions to appropriate teaching methods for teenagers. The final chapters of the book are more focused on specific topics that apply specifically to children and students, including student loans and going to college debt free, investing from an early age, and positive relationships with parents involving money.
Of note, the audio book version of SMSK is especially fun to engage with, as Dave and Rachel read their respective sections. I expect I will re-listen to the audio book several times in the coming years (especially as my daughters get old enough to start applying these principles).
Overall the book is pretty much what you would expect to hear from Dave, but the focus on raising children to be smart about money gives the book a worthwhile change of pace of Dave’s other works. Highly recommended to parents wanting to teach their children money principles, as well as secondary or college students who are trying to find their way in a culture that tells them to buy everything on credit.

This is a great book filled with wisdom and wonderful insight to help kids learn the value of money. I love that the Ramseys live by religious principles and show a respect for what money can and can't do. Whether your children are in preschool or college you will gain valuable information that will help, your children not only avoid debt but make a contribution to the world.

Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruz are excellent, no-nonsense, communicators who put forward common sense methods in managing and handing money. There stories connect with you where you live. Some are funny. Some are sad. I only wish i would have had this book 45 years ago.

This amazing book is a practical guide to train your kids to make smart decisions about money. Let me stress again that it’s a practical guide, not theoretical, because as a parent, who has time for theoretical?
Rachel Cruze was a baby when her parents filed for bankruptcy. While recovering from this difficult time, Dave and Sharon Ramsey “made the declaration that where money was concerned, we would start a new family tradition—a tradition of money knowledge, money character traits, and wealth.” Rachel and her older sister and younger brother are successful products of this declaration. Dave and Rachel share in great detail, from their respective perspectives, the money lessons taught to the Ramsey kids through the years and how you can apply them to your family.
The book has chapters dedicated to the subjects of work, spending, saving, giving, budgeting, staying away from debt, and contentment (this one is critical to your child’s success). Whether you have a preschooler or a teenager about to enter college or anywhere in between, this book has you covered. Most chapters offer sensible tips broken out by age groups.
If you’ve spend most of your adult life drowning in debt, can you imagine how awesome your child’s wealth building potential would be if she never, ever took on debt of any kind? This book shows you how it’s possible. Maybe you’ve worked hard, avoided debt, and saved hence you’re doing pretty well with money, but you’re worried about your child growing up to be a lazy, entitled, immature adult. Oh, is this book for you!
