A different approach in building this hero. He's an unassuming young man, with a surprising array of skills, and keeps falling in to situations that would daunt anyone, yet pulls it out. His deep spirituality is his quiet strength, in a way not as well understood in the 'West', well explained without weighing the story down. I enjoyed the story, and can recommend it as a fun diversion.

Hits the mark. Knowing this is the first in series, nearing the end, happy dance that there's more to read. Shout out to Michael Anderle for his recommendation. Enjoyable read. Lots of action and good development of characters.

I really enjoyed this book, and have raced through the other books of the series that are currently available. I can assure the writers of the on-star reviews that I am NOT paid, and not a relative of the writer. I think the stories have heart, and are a lot of fun to read. Highly recommended.

Well folks, if you are turned off by goofiness, fun and space adventure - then turn away. If you are like me, and have a special place in your heart for those qualities - read this series today. I enjoyed this book enough I went ahead and downloaded then next two. Everything is completely unbelievable, but at the same time so much fun. I just enter this universe and enjoy the book for what it is - a really enjoyable afternoon read.

Very dissappointing. The intro chapter was plausible, fun and engaging making me look forward to the rest of the book.
Fast forward into the second chapter, Hero at large should be called Harem at Large.

I could not finish the book. Every chapter a new woman gets added to his 'protection' but really the only protection they should provide him with is a condom for the amount of action he sees. It reads like a middle schooler's fantasy book. sci-fi action, destiny and weird exotic lovelife where everyone loves the main character.

There is no 'grit' no attempts at realism in any aspect of relationships. Very disappointing.

Well worth the time. Ellis creates a unique view of a future with an intriguing shadow from the past. This is one instance where the limited reviews are an unfortunate disservice to the author. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Hero is better than military forces, better at ship design than ship designers, and the most creative user of a specialized suit. Dreaded enemies are dumb and poor fighters that have terrorized whole regions of space for decades. Also, there is basically a harem for the hero, just like an anime. Finished it and will read the next one (with suspended belief), hence the 3 star rating.

Lots of scifi is athiest or agnostic. This is Hindu. Just letting you know in case that makes a difference.

Flaws in the series:
Throughout this series, only the main character seems to be able to design new ships.
A harem.
An entire planet that knows "the truth", yet can't be bothered to tell anyone how to reach enlightenment.
Prophecy of a big bad .... deliberately hidden by the good guys for no good reason.

This is an interesting and well written series that slowly got worse the further I got into it. If you want to only read the first five or so books, then I recommend them.

The basic review is in the title. And sometimes mindless entertainment hits the spot. Marked down for stale humor, as I didn't need to read (twice!) that the best steak is cooked so it can't walk off the plate.

Excellent book to read, I was very pleased by the action - what a thrill! Not "space opera", but space thriller that keeps you riveted to the action working against bad odds, and winning!
This book given for read and review, but I absolutely loved it.

Suspend your sense of disbelief and prepare to have some cheesy fun in pure escapism. I don’t know about you, but the Real World seems like it’s about to get too real in the very near future. I think Rx Drugs, ETOH and some easy escapism from Mr. Ellis is just what my doctor has ordered for me about now…
Tongue in Cheek...Check!
Grain of Salt...Check!
All systems ready to roll.
(Also, I was waiting for the next John Conroe or Michael Anderle book and one of their websites suggested reading some Timothy Ellis would take the edge off of my addiction to the aforementioned authors. :-)

This is a true Space Opera. Great Hero pursued by Space Pirates. Hero has great pilot skills he did not know he had. Jonathon Hunter is the Hero. And this Story is great. What's better is, it is a series! For a great Old Style Science Fiction Story to read, this is it!!
Good Read, Santa Mike
